Cass' POV
I woke up with a start, my heart racing and what felt like my whole body covered in a cold sweat. My breath was catching in my throat and it felt like I was suffocating. I sat up slowly and pulled off my covers letting the effects of either my or someone else's dream wear off.
Once I was sure I wasn't going to feint or throw up I made my way to the bathroom and started to run myself a cold bath. I ran my hand through my sweat dampened hair and took off the few articles of clothing I'd worn to bed. As the water reached half way I slowly lowered myself in. The shock of the cold water made me wake up considerably and I stared to relax. It's probably for the best that I'm going to go see Pein soon. My powers are getting out of my control again.
I lowered myself fully into the tub so my face was submerged and just shut my eyes, trying to shut out everything around me. After a little bit I rose back up and started to bathe. When I was done I stepped out of the tub and dried off, wrapping myself in the towel and heading out into my room to get dressed.
Stepping out of my room I nearly screamed because Tobi was standing right outside my door. "Jesus christ Tobi!" Taking a deep breath I looked up at him and brushed my hair out of my face.
"Good morning Cass." His voice was very chipper and it made me furrow my brow. Remember it's just an act. Be polite.
"Good morning. What's wrong? It's only 5 am." I stepped around him and glanced at him to make sure he was following before heading to the kitchen.
"Your chakra was spiking again. Were you having another nightmare?"
"I guess so but I don't remember any of it." As we walked in I went away to making breakfast for us as he sat at the table. "Tobi... how much has leader told you?" I could almost feel the air in the room grow cold and I kept my eyes on the stove.
"What do you mean? Pein told all of us about your powers when you were accepted. Don't you remember? You were there silly." His voice still sounded exactly the same but the tension was still growing.
"I know... I just don't know what all about it he said about it when I wasn't around."
"He didn't talk to any of us privately."
"Alright. I just wasn't sure." Turning around I set a plate in front of him and gave a small fake smile. "I'm going to go take Konan her breakfast since I assume she'll already be awake." He nodded as I carried the other plate down to I suppose now Konan's office. As I got closer I could hear her talking to someone and I brought my chakra down completely.
Sneaking up I stood right beside the doorway listening in. "-not like we are inconsiderate of your situation but right now we've yet to come to a decision. You will need to wait until he decides on what to do. But for now you will follow orders and keep your distance from her." That's Konan... Who's she taking to?
"I understand that Ma'am but I am training her best friend and Kisame is her mentor as well. It's not exactly the easiest thing to keep away from her." Itachi? But I thought him and Kisame were out on a mission.
"Wow Kid, I really didn't expect you to be the kind to listen in on conversations." My body tensed as I held back a scream of surprise. Slowly looking to my other side I saw a very smug Kisame. I glared at him slightly and put a finger to my lips, trying to listen again. "Too late, they know we're here."
Rolling my eyes I reached out and knocked on the door, waiting for Konan's reply. "Come in." I opened to door and stepped inside, setting the food down on her desk and taking her other plate. "You're dismissed Itachi. You and Kisame may rest for a couple days before heading back out." He nodded and looked at me with his usual expression before turning and leaving. "What all did you hear?"
"Just that you don't want him near me. Don't worry Ma'am, I understand that it's not my place to question your orders and I'll do my best to make them easy for him." She looked at me and gave me a small nod. "Do you have any papers you want me to take to Leader when I leave today?"
"Yes. I'll have them set up for you on the corner of the desk. You may pick them up before you leave." She gave me a small wave to leave and I turned around, stepping out and closing the door behind me. Carrying her dirty plate to the kitchen I set it in the sink where Tobi left his and started to make more food now that I knew Kisame and Itachi were here. Once I was done I made my own plate and ate.
"Don't you just look like a beacon of joy?" I looked up at Kisame as he walked in and sat down. From his wet hair and fresh clothes I could tell he'd taken a bath while I was busy cooking. I let out a small sigh and thought it over as I ate. Did I really look so upset?
"I don't know... I've been having nightmares again." His face dropped slightly and he started to fiddle with his fork. "Don't worry. I'm going with Tobi today to stay in the hideout with Leader. When I get there he'll more than likely want to continue with my training."
"Yeah I guess. It really is surprising that he's going to all the trouble. I mean it's not like you aren't powerful or useful... I just don't see why he isn't having Itachi or someone else train you."
"It's fine. I understand what you mean. I don't know why he's bothering with me either. If he really wanted someone to train me he could even just get someone under Sasori's control to do it. That way none of you would be held up and could focus fully on catching the tailed beasts."
"Who knows what he has planned but it's not in our place to question his orders." I nodded and looked down, picking at my food. "Don't worry kid. Just consider it an honor."
"I will." There was a small pause as I pushed things around on my plate. "You should make sure to take food to Itachi since he's not supposed to come around me. I know I don't really know him well like Bre does but I am worried about not being able to control my abilities around him. He's a proud man and I would feel horrible if I invaded his privacy in such a way."
"Don't worry I will. Someone has to make sure he eats. And don't worry about the dishes, I'll take care of them."
"Really? Thank you." I smiled softly at him and snickered a little when he started to blush.
"Oh shut up. Get going before you end up making Leader wait." My snickering turned into laughing and Kisame rolled his eyes. I passed over what was left of my food and he started to eat it without hesitation as I got up. "I really missed your cooking. It's the best."
"Just my cooking?"
"Yup." We grinned at each other before he made a shoo motion with his hand. "I'll see you around Kid. Next time maybe we'll have time to do some training."
"I hope so too. Bye Kisame, see you." I waved back at him slightly before heading into my room and packing up my bag.
Once I was done getting packed I made sure to stop into Konan's office and pick up her papers. After that I wandered around the base trying to find Tobi.
