Chapter 5: Monstro
A dark corridor opened inside of Monstro before Neo stepped out of it.
"There has to be a way to wake Kairi. I'll find it one way, or another." said Neo before he began walking.
-Later-
Neo arrived in the 1st chamber to find a puppet running toward him.
"A puppet that can walk on it's own? Finally." said Neo. The puppet came to a stop in front of Neo.
"Who are you?" asked the puppet.
"My name is Neo. What is your's?" asked Neo.
"My name is Pinocchio." said the puppet. Neo then kneeled down in front of Pinocchio.
"Well, where are you off to in such a rush, Pinocchio?" asked Neo.
"I'm going to find some more gummi blocks so father, and I can escape from Monstro." said Pinocchio. Neo nodded his head in understanding.
"Well, how about I help you find some?" Neo suggested as he stood up. Pinocchio nodded his head.
"Sure. Father will be so surprised, and Sora, Riku, Donald, and Goofy will be, too." said Pinocchio. Neo's eyes widened as his smile fell.
"Sora...and Riku? How do you know them?" asked Neo.
"Well, they got swallowed up by Monstro, too." said Pinocchio. Neo hung his head as his bangs covered his eyes.
"I see." said Neo as he turned to walk away. Pinocchio became worried.
"Neo?" asked Pinocchio. Neo looked at Pinocchio over his shoulder.
"Come on, Pinocchio. We have to start looking if you want to get yourself, and your dad out of here." said Neo. The two started walking away when Pinocchio stopped after hearing footsteps approaching.
"Pinocchio!" said a voice which belonged to Sora. He, Riku, Donald, and Goofy had followed Pinocchio in order to bring him back to his father, Geppetto.
"C'mon Pincchio. Geppetto is worried about you." said Riku. When Pinocchio didn't move Sora spoke up.
"C'mon Pinocchio, stop fooling around! This is no time for games!" said Sora. When they turned back toward the way they came from a voice spoke up.
"But you used to like playing games, Sora." said a voice causing the group to stop, and turn to see Neo.
"Neo...?" asked Sora. Neo smirked.
"Or are you too cool now that you have the Keyblade?" asked Neo.
"What are you talking about?" asked Sora.
"While you were running around showing off that Keyblade of your's I found someone special." said Neo causing Sora's, and Riku's eyes to widen.
"You mean Kairi?! Where is she?" asked Sora. Neo just smirked.
"Why don't you catch us, and then maybe I'll tell you what I know." said Neo.
"Neo!" said Sora before Neo grabbed Pinocchio's hand, and ran off with the little puppet.
"That Neo sure is a jerk!" said Donald. Goofy looked at Sora with worry.
"Sora?" asked Goofy.
"...Something is...wrong with Neo, is all." said Sora as he turned toward his friends. " We have to go after them." Riku, Donald, and Goofy nodded their heads in agreement before the four friends ran after Neo, and Pinocchio.
-Later-
Neo, and Pinocchio arrived in chamber 4. Neo then looked back, and saw Sora, Riku, Donald, and Goofy close behind. Pincchio ran into another chamber as the four friends came to a stop.
"Neo, why are you doing this? Answer me!" said Sora. Neo glared at Sora.
"Why is it that while I was looking for Kairi you, and Riku were running around showing off your Keyblades, and making friends?" asked Neo.
"AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!" screamed Pinocchio's voice from the other chamber causing the group to rush into the chamber.
-Bowls-
The group ran into the chamber to find a large Heartless (Parasite Cage) in the middle of the chamber. They then saw that it had Pinocchio trapped inside. Donald, and Goofy pulled out their staff, and shield (respectively) while Sora, and Riku summoned their Keyblades.
"You ready, Neo?" asked Riku. Neo smirked as he summoned his Soul Eater sword.
"Yeah." said Neo. The group then charged at the Heartless.
"THUNDER!" shouted Donald as a few lightning bolts rained down on the Heartless. The Heartless, however, didn't seem affected. The Heartless then bashed Donald aside. Goofy then charged with his shield at the ready. As he got close, however, the Heartless wrapped it's tentacle around him, lifted him up, and tossed him aside. Riku jumped, and swung his Keyblade, but the Heartless swung it's tentacle, and sent Riku flying back. Sora pointed his Keyblade at the Heartless.
"FIRE!" shouted Sora as he shot a fire ball at the Heartless. The Heartless, however, swung both tentacles, and knocked the fire ball away before striking Sora, and sending him flying straight into Riku whom had just stood up. Neo then ran up, swung the Soul Eater, and cut off a tentacle. The Heartless grabbed Neo with it's remaining tentacle, and threw him into Sora, and Riku who had just stood up. Donald then held up his staff.
"CURA!" shouted Donald as a green veil enveloped Sora, Riku, and Neo. The three then stood up.
"Hey you guys!" said Riku gaining Sora's, and Neo's attention. "Remember when we always took on Selphie, Tidus, and Wakka in a three-on-three match?" Neo, and Sora nodded their heads. The three then ran at the Heartless. Sora, and Riku jumped, and swung their Keyblades as they came down, cutting through the Heartless.
Neo then jumped, and swung the Soul Eater as he came down, cutting the Heartless down the middle. Suddenly, the Heartless's severed tentacle reattached itself to the Heartless before the Heartless jumped up, and attached to the ceiling. A hole opened in the ground, and the Heartless spat Pinocchio out causing him to fall through the hole. Neo ran, and jumped down into the hole with Sora, and the others soon following.
-Mouth-
Sora, Riku, Donald, and Goofy landed back on Geppetto's boat to find the old clockmaker in distress. "PLEASE! Please give me back my son!" Geppetto begged. The four friends looked toward where Geppetto was looking to find Neo holding an unconscious Pinocchio.
"Sorry old man, but this puppet is coming with me." said Neo.
"Pinocchio is no puppet. He's my little boy." said Geppetto. Neo chuckled darkly.
"Heheheh. It's still hard to believe a puppet can have a heart. Maybe he can help someone whose lost theirs." said Neo. Sora's, and Riku's eyes widened at Neo's statement.
"D-Do you mean Kairi?" asked Sora.
"What happened to her?" asked Riku.
"As if you two even cared! Stay away from her! Kairi doesn't need you two anymore! All she needs is me!" Neo responded angrily before taking off into another chamber.
-Stomach-
Neo ran into the chamber which was Monstro's stomach before placing Pinocchio down. At that moment, Sora, and the others arrived.
"Neo!" Sora called out to his best friend. "Why are you doing this?" Neo looked back at the four friends.
"Why can't you see that I'm doing this to save Kairi? This puppet can probably restore her heart." said Neo. He then held out his hand toward Sora.
"Join me, Sora. Together we can save Kairi!" said Neo. Sora looked at Neo and then the boy's hand. Neo eyes widened as he saw Sora summon his Kingdom Key Keyblade and point it at him threateningly.
"You...would challenge me?" asked Neo.
"I want to save Kairi just as bad as you do, but not like this! Not if it means siding with the Heartless!" said Sora. Neo retracted his outstretched hand as he glared at his "former" best friend.
"Is that...your final answer?" asked Neo. Sora just glared at Neo as he kept his Keyblade pointed at him. Neo closed his eyes and sighed.
"I see." said Neo. Suddenly, a wall of dark fire erupted behind Sora, separating him from Riku, Donald and Goofy.
"SORA!" shouted the other three. Sora looked back at the three before turning to face Neo who had summoned his Soul Eater sword. Neo then opened his eyes.
"Then you leave me no choice." said Neo. The two former best friends then ran at each other and swung their respective weapons causing the sound of metal slamming against metal to sound through out the area.
The two forced each other back before Sora used Strike Raid and threw his Keyblade at Neo. The boy quickly held up Soul Eater and repelled Sora's Keyblade causing it to go flying back to it's wielder's right hand. Neo then followed up by jumping straight into the air and swinging Soul Eater straight down at Sora. The Keyblade wielder held up his Keyblade and managed to block the attack before swinging his Keyblade and forcing Neo back.
"You've gotten stronger, Sora, I'll give you that." said Neo.
"Neo, it isn't too late. Come back to the light, please!" said Sora. Neo growled in frustration.
"The light isn't strong enough to save Kairi! I swore I would save her no matter the cost and I meant it!" said Neo. Sora couldn't believe what he was hearing. Neo was willing to lose himself in the darkness just to save Kairi.
"What do you think Kairi would've wanted? She wouldn't want you to turn to darkness!" said Sora causing Neo to go wide eyed.
"Neo..." said a voice causing Neo to grip his head in pain.
-Flashback-
It was the night before the storm that devoured Destiny Islands. Neo and Kairi were sitting on the dock while waiting for Sora and Riku to finish tying down the raft.
"Hey Neo." said Kairi.
"Hm?" asked Neo as he looked over at the red headed girl.
"Do you think we'll always be like this? You know, like together?" asked Kairi. Neo thought about it for a second before coming up with an answer.
"I don't think we'll be able to stay together because we'll eventually grow up, but I do know that even if we're far apart our hearts will bring us back together again." said Neo as he looked up at the star filled night sky.
Suddenly, he felt two arms encircle his waist and he looked to see that the arms belonged to Kairi. Neo blushed bright red, but was glad that it was night time so his blush wasn't noticeable.
"Neo, do you know what I want?" asked Kairi as she continued to hug him.
"W-what do you want?" asked Neo. Kairi then whispered one sentence.
-Flashback end-
"Don't ever change." said Neo as the wall of dark fire dissipated. "She wouldn't want me to change." Suddenly, the group heard a noise before looking up and seeing the Heartless from earlier hanging from the roof. It then dropped between Sora and Neo. A dark corridor then opened behind Neo.
"Wait Neo!" Sora called out to Neo as the boy stepped through the dark corridor and disappeared.
-Captain Hook's Ship: Captain's quarters-
A dark corridor appeared before Neo stepped out and walked over to the bed where Kairi was laying.
"Kairi..." said Neo as he placed his hand on the sleeping girl's cheek. At that moment, Maleficent appeared via dark corridor.
"What do you want?" asked Neo. Maleficent only smiled an evil smile.
"Why, nothing as of right now. I only came to grant you a gift." said Maleficent. Neo then turned toward Maleficent with a look of confusion.
"A...gift?" asked Neo. Maleficent nodded her head.
"Yes, a gift." said Maleficent. Neo then glared at Maleficent.
"What kinda gift?" asked Neo. Maleficent then held up her staff.
"THE POWER TO CONTROL THE HEARTLESS!" Maleficent shouted as a green aura surrounded Neo. Neo closed his eyes as he opened himself to this new power. When the aura disappeared Neo looked towards Kairi.
"Just a little longer, Kairi." said Neo.
