Chapter 5
Continuing slowly down the stairs, this gave her the perfect opportunity to snoop without it looking like she was snooping. Seeing all the family photo's made her nostalgic for a proper family, as she hadn't had one for nearly 13 years and even then, her parents weren't actually her parents. And they told her this growing up and she loved them even more for it. It also made her angry, as she was given up and they still had two kids. That is, if what's on her birth certificate is correct and it wasn't just a ruse. Hearing the back door go, she decided to continue on downstairs like she had started to and came into contact with Aria's Mom, Ella Montgomery again.
"Oh! Amethyst, what are you doing here? Did Aria invite you around?" she sounded quite surprised on seeing her here and also a little bit nervous. Keeping that in the back of her mind, she smiled at her teacher and replied affirmative.
"Yeh, Alison introduced me to them and they invited me around, but there just going through Aria's clothes and as much as I like fashion, sometimes it bores me so I thought I'd go outside to watch the guys play basketball or something." Keeping a charming smile on her face, she noticed when Ella relaxed and nodded her head in agreement.
"Well, if you want to do that, there out the front. I'm sure they won't mind you watching, they might even try and rope you into playing. I'm just going to be doing some marking so if you want a drink or a snack, help yourself to the kitchen." Wandering past Amethyst, she went through to the dining room and set up all of her paper work on the table. Going through the kitchen to the hallway, she opened the front door and stepped outside, closing it firmly behind her and noticed the guys immediately in gym clothes, playing basketball against each other.
Jason noticed her come out and stopped what he was doing with the ball, holding it under his arm. Mike's complaint was cut off when he saw what had stopped Jason from continuing he put a questioning look on his face.
"Hey Amethyst! This is Mike, Aria's younger brother. What are you doing out here? I'd thought you'd be up in Aria's room talking about clothes or boys or… something hah!" he obviously didn't know what girls did together but it was quite funny the face he pulled saying that.
"Nah, they're going through Aria's clothes, grabbing what they want and chucking the rest. They offered me some but I don't take charity and I don't want them to think I'm only hanging out with them for their clothes. And I didn't like your sister's attitude so I decided to come out here to watch you guys lay, if that's alright with you? Maybe even join in? I do like playing basketball sometimes, even though I'm quite short."
Jason looked to mike, who nodded like an excited puppy and the imagery made Amethyst smile before placing her bag down on the steps and sitting next to it, quite happy to watch them for a while before joining in. they continued where they left off, ribbing each other playfully and joking around almost like they'd forgot Amethyst was sat there. She sat there taking it all in with a smile, happy to know that they had such good friendships with each other. They broke for a break after 15 minute to take drinks out of their water bottles before sprawling out on the grass in front of her. Stifling a laugh, she waited until they'd caught their breath before asking her question.
"Now you guys have warmed up, think I could join in for a few games?" she kept it light and jokey in case they didn't want her to join but the playful affronted looks on their faces made her laugh.
"Warm up? Warm up? We've been playing for a good half an hour and you call that a warm up? Mike's voice got higher the more incredulous he got. He said it playfully though so she knew not to take offence. With a wholly serious look on her face, she replied with one word. "yes." Jason's laughter at the look on Mikes face made them both join in with laughter, not noticing that 5 people were looking down at them from the above window, varying expressions on their faces. Alison had a frown on her face in anger and Aria's was more confused than angry but it had an undertone as the new girl was talking to guy she liked. The others were just confused as to why the other two cared so much, even though spencer had a speculative look upon hers.
"Well, if you're going to join us, you can't exactly wear those shoes. You got any others?" she pulled out her cheer leading shoes and slipped off her heels and laced her cheer leading ones up before standing and taking her jewelry off so it didn't come off during the game.
Turning it to them, she smiled and asked who was going first or where they doing a three way. Jason smirked at her wording, making her roll her eyes with a smile.
"Well, I was thinking just doing a timed thing of seeing how many points each of us can get in say 15 minutes?" Mike spoke up and everyone seemed to like the idea so Jason set a timer on his phone before passing the ball to Amethyst. "We'll give you the ball as a head start." Smirking at her, she vowed to take the smirk right off his face before this was over.
Practicing bouncing the ball, she nodded she was ready and Jason started to timer. Pouncing forward with speed the guys didn't know she possessed, dribbling the ball expertly she moved with grace around them, Jason or Mike coming nowhere near close enough to grab the ball, even though they had more height and strength on their sides. She scored two points before they even realized it and she threw the ball to Jason with a smirk of her own. He grinner at her before nodding to mike. The un spoken 'It's on' sounded through all of their heads and the boys decided to give this game there all. They weren't going to let Amethyst beat them, even if it was a friendly game.
