you peeps so I know you really don't care what I have to say so I will just get on with it.
jez and Morgead are 13/14 here and I do NOT own the night world or its characters
Slip up
It was just as Jez was beginning to drift off to sleep that she was roughly jolted back to full consciousness by a loud crashing thud from some other room in the house. Shrugging off her disorientation, Jez shot to her feet and let her instincts take over.
Where was she? Morgead's house. Was she alone? Yes. What woke her? A crash. What caused the crash?
Wearily, Jez cocked her head and padded around the couch. She quickly realized that she could hear swearing, and the sound of fabric being disturbed overtop the noise from the running shower coming from the direction of Morgead's room. Cautiously, Jez stuck her head through the open doorway and peered into Morgead's filthy bedroom.
There. The bathroom.
The sounds were coming from beyond the closed door on the far side of the room. Another small crash erupted from the bathroom and was immediately followed by a foul curse that Jez could just barely make out.
As she neared the bathroom door, Jez called out uncertainly, "Morgead? You okay?"
Jez felt her brow furrow as there was a frantic scrambling sound on the other side of the door. She put her hand on the doorknob. Hesitated. "Morgead."
"Jez I – don't come in! I just – agh ow!" Jez heard the familiar sound that a body makes when it falls on the ground and a few more creative curses from Morgead.
Jez shook her head and briefly pondered her sanity. Morgead had said that he was fine, but… After a moment's hesitation, Jez turned the knob and warned, "I'm coming in."
"What?"
Jez heard the panic in Morgead's voice as she eased the door open and slipped into the steamy room. She stopped – dumbfounded – in the doorway and stared at Morgead as he scrambled around on the bathroom tiles in a desperate attempt to cover himself with the shower curtain he was laying on. The shower was still going strong, pelting the walls and escaping the confines of Morgead's bathtub/shower now that the curtain had been torn down.
Despite the odd angle of Morgead's right arm and the blood smeared down his face that mingled with the beads of water on his face and chest, Jez clapped a hand over her mouth and laughed. Loudly. Or perhaps it was because of all that. She certainly wasn't going to just stand there and stare at Morgead's naked body sprawled across the floor – even if he had managed to cover himself with the curtain just in time.
Jez squeezed her eyes shut and crouched down, laughing even harder as she imagined what must have happened. How had vampire Morgead managed to fall right out of the shower?
"Shut up already, Jez," Morgead growled. "I told you not to come in."
"Sorry."
"Whatever. Would you at least help me out since you're here?"
Jez swallowed the rest of her giggles and blinked back tears as she climbed back to her feet unsteadily. Morgead had pushed himself to a more dignified position against the wall and wiped some of the blood off his chin.
"Fine," she moved by Morgead and reached through the water to turn the tap off. "but you have to tell me how you did this, genius."
"Whatever," Morgead grumbled and averted his eyes when Jez squatted down in front of him.
"I'm serious, dummy," Jez laughed, throwing a towel at Morgead. "How on earth did you manage this?"
"I don't even know, alright?" Morgead ran a hand through his hair and shook his head like a wet dog. Jez found it hard not to notice how red his face was. "I just kind of, slipped and fell and like, grabbed the curtain," Morgead absently mimed someone clutching at something mid-air. "and then, of course, I fell out through the curtain and smashed my face on the counter and broke my arm when I hit the floor."
"Greaaat…" Jez swirled her finger in the puddle she was sitting in to distract her from looking at the water droplets sliding down Morgead's toned chest. "So what are we going to do about your arm?"
Morgead sighed heavily, but he offered no answer.
"It'll be better in a few days anyway, won't it? Probably no need for a cast or anything…"
Abruptly, Jez leaned forwards and put her face close to Morgead's. They'd already been close enough in Morgead's cramped bathroom to make things vaguely uncomfortable, but this was pushing it. Morgead still wasn't wearing any clothes, and Jez was leaning right over top of Morgead with her hand planted in between Morgead's legs.
So naturally, Morgead pushed himself farther back against the wall and stared wide eyed at Jez while she stared at him. "What. Are. You. Doing."
Jez leaned back and said, "Looks like your nose is broken too, by the way."
Morgead swallowed thickly and croaked, "Fantastic."
"I think I'll go so that you can get some pants on…"
"Ah, good idea," Morgead scratched the back of his neck and watched Jez climb to her feet and shuffle out of the bathroom.
The second the door clicked shut Morgead buried his head in his one good hand and moaned dramatically. Just imagining how stupid he must have looked to Jez… Morgead threw himself sideways and lay staring up at the ceiling as he convinced his heart to beat slower, and for his breathing to calm down.
On the other side of the door, Jez was doing the exact same thing.
