A Question Of Friendship 34 - Homecoming
Bella Swann cuddled her son to her chest watching on the screen as her bother in law set up the baby monitors.
"I think it needs to aim a little more to the left." Bella called through the two way baby monitor.
"You look so serious." Edward chuckled from the bed watching her "Like you're on an undercover mission." Their daughter lay on his chest snoozing; dead to the world around her "Hey Jazz aren't you supposed to be hanging from the ceiling whilst doing that?"
"Shut up Edward." Jasper growled to his brother.
"Actually it's better where you were." Bella mused rearranging her son. She looked down at the tiny being "Still no sleep baba." Since coming home from the hospital earlier that day, Theo had been restless.
"Do you want to swap?" Edward asked sitting up slowly; in his fiancée's eyes he was already a pro. Their daughter didn't even make a noise as he moved her to the double crib beside his bed.
"Please." Bella nodded as he kissed her head. Slowly, she slipped the babe into his arms. Edward kissed his head softly and started to bounce. She watched in amazement as her three day old son yawned and fell asleep "How did you do that?" She gasped.
"A magician never reveals his tricks." He grinned.
"Bella!" Jasper yelled looking through the camera.
"Sorry Jasper." She said sheepishly "It looks fine."
Bella, Jasper and Edward sat around the small kitchen table. Edward's old eight seater had been retired to storage along with his piano and treadmill, making room for the babies' furniture.
"Jasper move your knee." Edward grumbled. He had always been the smallest of the Cullen children and once again felt squashed.
"There isn't enough room." Jasper shrugged purposely knocking against his brother's knee. Bella watched as Edward's glare turned icy.
"Boys behave." She groaned rubbing her temple; something she'd picked up from living with Edward "Even the babies behave better than you." Jasper stuck his tongue out at her whilst her husband to be just smirked.
"Talking of the twins how'd you get Theo to sleep so quickly?" Jasper asked finishing his sub.
His brother simply shrugged moving to the kitchen with their empty plates "I'm just amazing I guess. Mom did say I was good with Rosalie when she was born."
"I forgot about that." Bella's eyebrow rose at Jasper's smirk "I used to rock her crib in the middle of the night. Then when she was two a put on that Halloween mask…Mom and Dad had to move the crib into their bedroom for six months!" Both Bella and Jasper howled with laughter.
"Thanks to you she mom banned my dress up birthday party." Edward grumbled, poking his head around the door but the laughter within was unmistakeable. He moved back into the kitchen, leaving the pair to retell stories he'd hear thousands of times. It made him happy to hear Bella laugh and be joyful after the whirlwind of emotion she'd experienced the past few weeks. He'd been surprised at how quickly she'd bounced back into normal life this morning when they got the green light to go home. There had been no fear or panic in her face; that made him smile to himself.
A small cry pierced the air, soon followed by a second and pulled a groan from Edward's mouth.
"I've got it!" Bella called, her chair screeching as she moved backwards.
"Yell if you need some help." Edward called flicking on the little television that streamed live from their bedroom. He watched as Bella lent over the crib. Smirking he whispered into the mic "Nice ass baby."
"That's my key to leave then." Jasper groaned jumping up "Mom and Rose are coming round tomorrow. I think they're bringing some more stuff for the twins, just to warn you." Edward nodded stepping into the living room.
"Edward can you bring me some wipes? Beth's been sick." Bella called.
"Don't worry Eddie I'll let myself out."
"You're just after attention aren't you?" Edward cooed kissing his daughter's nose. Although it was only a little sick, Beth Cullen had still needed a clothes change. She gurgled back in reply as he buttoned up her baby-grow with shaky hands "That's not good." He mumbled to himself taking a step back from the changing table. Beth squirmed as he moved away.
"Don't panic." He smiled back at her, wishing he could think the same. His arms suddenly felt like jelly and looked just as wobbly. Edward clenched and unclenched his fingers as if trying to get his circulation back. Slowly the shakes resided as his daughter began to cry. Quickly he lifted her but over the table in case.
"Edward is everything alright?" Bella asked poking her head around the door.
"Yeah I just moved a bit too quickly and spooked her." He hoped his grin didn't look as fake as it felt.
"Oh ok." Bella nodded rubbing their sons back "It's food time."
Beth cuddled under her father's chin looking around the room. Edward kept in a sigh of relief feeling safer with her lying against his chest; it was harder to drop her "Let's go."
