REVENGE OF THE SATURNYNIANS
Amy's TARDIS arrived in the middle of Winston Churchill's war room, and she looked at the monitor with a smile on her face. "I see Winston's got his usual welcoming committee waiting for us as soon as we come out the door," Amy said as she saw a group of soldiers with guns drawn at the entrance of the TARDIS.
"Is this how he greets all of his friends?" Brian asked in shock.
"Pretty much. At least that's how he's always greeted me and the Doctor anyway. I think maybe he doesn't completely trust us. Just call it a hunch. Don't worry about it, Brian. Don't make any sudden movements, and you'll be fine," Amy said with a smile.
"Maybe I should have stayed home after all," Brian said.
"Don't worry, Dad. Amy would never let anything happen to us. I haven't died once since I started traveling with her," Rory said.
"Yes, you keep saying that. One day you're going to have to explain it. In detail," Brian said with a worried look on his face.
Amy started to leave the TARDIS, and then suddenly turned back around to say, "Oh, and make sure that Winston doesn't steal any of your TARDIS keys. He's always trying to get one. He wants a TARDIS so that he can use it to win the war."
"I never got a key," Brian said.
"I'll give you one later. It's better that you not have one around him anyway. He'll just take it right out of your pocket," Amy said.
"You have to be on your toes in this business, don't you?" Brian asked.
"Constantly. You never know what's coming at you around every corner," Rory admitted.
"Cheer up, Brian. You'll be fine. I'll tell you what. I'll go out there first to reassure them that we're friendly. The rest of you wait inside until I call you," Amy said.
Brian forced a smile to cover up his nervousness as Amy opened the door. She smiled at the guards outside who seemed to be just as nervous as Brian. She tried to act as friendly as possible to make them realize that she was in no way a threat to them.
"Hello, boys! Is the Prime Minister around? He's expecting me. Something about fish vampires he said. Does that ring a bell with anyone?" Amy asked.
The soldiers just kept staring at her without speaking though so she said, "Okay. I'll just stand right here until Winston comes along then. How about that? I'm no danger at all. See?" Amy said happily.
"Is everything okay, Mum?" Julia asked as she poked her head out of the door.
"I'm fine. Don't come out here," Amy warned.
"Gotcha," Julia said as she went back inside.
"Kids. Do any of you have any kids? You know what a handful that they are if you do," Amy said with a nervous laugh.
The soldiers seemed to visibly relax with that comment, and Amy knew that she had established a rapport with them. She smiled in relief. They were less likely to shoot her or anyone else by accident or because of nerves now.
She wasn't worried about herself. She could easily regenerate from a few bullet wounds. She was more worried about the others. Usually Winston came out and called them off by now. What was with him today? Where was he?
She could easily take the soldiers down without killing them, but then there would be others sent after them. The whole situation would get out of control very quickly. She would very much like to avoid that if possible. Still she was becoming very impatient and tired of waiting.
"Come on, Winston! Sometime today would be nice!" Amy said in irritation.
Gunfire started to come from outside of the room, and several of the soldiers instantly turned their attention to it while the others covered Amy. Now she knew why Winston wasn't coming and why the soldiers were so jumpy. Something was wrong.
"Tell me what's going on. Now! I can help but only if you let me know what's happening," Amy said.
"We're under attack, Ma'am. We think that it's the fish vampires that the Prime Minister called you about earlier," one of the soldiers finally said.
"Then why are you wasting time guarding me then? I'm on your side," Amy said with a sigh.
"You could be one of them though. They can disguise themselves so that they can appear like one of us. They've already done it several times," Another soldier said warily.
"Yes, I know. They use perception filters to appear human. It's not too farfetched of an idea that they could use them to look like one of you too in order to infiltrate and destroy you from within. Where's the Prime Minister? Is he safe?" Amy asked.
"He's in hiding. He's been taken to a secure location. As far as we know he's alright," the first soldier to speak earlier replied.
The gunfire came closer and closer and without consciously realizing it Amy started giving the soldiers orders. "I want some of you to go out there and see how far away they are and report back. Go! The rest of you get ready to hold the line here. We can't let them get to the Prime Minister. If they're trying to topple the government, they'll have to do over my dead body," Amy said.
Amy spoke with such authority that the soldiers instantly did what she said. Several of them went to scout ahead while the others prepared for the fight of their lives. All of them turned their backs on her now satisfied that she was on their side.
"Is it okay to come out now?" Rory asked.
"Yeah, at least for the moment. It turns out that I was wrong, Rory . They are here. They actually seem to be after Winston now. I hate fish vampires!" Amy said with a sigh.
"Ma'am!" one of the soldiers who had left said as he came back inside saluting her.
"There's no need for that. Just tell me what you saw," Amy said.
They're only a few feet away. They look like normal men and women except for their huge teeth. They're slaughtering everyone," the soldier said.
She could see that he was terrified and just barely concealing it. She smiled comfortingly at him as she said, "I'm going to stop them. Trust me."
"Yes, ma'am," the soldier said with an air of uncertainty.
"Everyone get ready to defend this area. Don't fire until I give the order though," Amy said.
Brian watched in surprise at how quickly Amy had taken control of the soldiers. What was even more amazing was that they were actually accepting her orders especially in this time where women were not viewed as equals.
Selene smiled at the expression on Brian's face as she said, "She's such a natural leader that everyone just automatically listens to her and lets her take charge of any situation. She was always like that even when she was a kid."
"You mean she was bossy and constantly telling people what to do?" Julia said with a grin.
"That's exactly right," Sirona said giggling.
"So I see that she's been pretty consistent over the years then. She has the same personality as Amy that she did as Cliodna," Rory noted.
"In many ways, yes," Selene said.
"If you're all done talking about me, can you please get back into the TARDIS? This place is going to get very dangerous soon," Amy said.
"What about you?" Brian asked.
"I can take care of myself," Amy said with a large smile.
"You're going to be very shocked soon, Dad," Rory said.
"What do you mean?" Brian asked.
"You'll see when you watch her fight," Rory said.
"At least make Julia go back inside," Amy said as none of them moved.
"Why don't I get to have any fun?" Julia said in an annoyed voice.
"You have an odd idea of fun," Sirona said as she took her back inside of the TARDIS.
Amy sighed in relief that both of her daughters were now safe and then said, "Brian, you need to go join them. No offense but you're a little too old to be out here."
"Aren't you much older than I am?" Brian pointed out.
"Good one, Brian!" Selene said with a laugh.
"Yes, I know I'm hundreds of years old. I'm in a youthful body though, and you're not. Go back inside, Brian. I'm sorry. I don't want to make you feel bad, but I don't want you to get shot either," Amy insisted.
"I'm staying here, Amy," Brian said stubbornly.
"Fine," Amy said as she gave up.
Rory could see the worried look on her face so he whispered to her, "He'll be fine. I'll watch out for him."
Amy nodded. She knew it was too late for him to leave now anyway. They were already there.
Amy watched as a very familiar woman entered the room first ahead of the others. The soldiers all aimed at her and were ready to fire until Amy said, "Wait for the order."
"Hello again! I know you, don't I? It's been several centuries since we last met though. You name was Amy Pond, wasn't it?" the Saturnynian who Amy had known as Rosanna Calvierri said. It appeared that she had been wrong about the whole adventure in Venice having been erased after all.
"I'm flattered that you still recognize me. How are you still alive though? The Doctor said that you were eaten alive by your own people when you jumped into the water with them," Amy said.
"I'm sure that he thought that I was, but he never actually saw me die, did he? He only saw what I wanted him to see. I actually went into hiding with the others, and we slowly rebuilt our people over the centuries completely under the Doctor's nose. We've been hiding among humanity in plain sight ever since then. I played upon his guilt at causing the destruction of the Time Lords quite well I think. I mean did I actually seem like the suicidal type to you?" Rosanna asked.
"Not really, no. You were narcissistic, cold, and uncaring for others but never suicidal," Amy said with a grin.
"You're still as arrogant and disrespectful as ever I see," Rosanna said with a frown.
"I don't show any respect for those who don't deserve it. You never did as far as I can see. So what are you up to, Rosanna or whoever you are? Are you trying to overthrow the government so that you can turn this whole country into your nursery? The Nazis might have something to say about that. You do know about them, right?" Amy asked.
"They do not matter as far as my plans are concerned. I only came here because I found out that the Prime Minister was a friend of the Doctor's. I wished to use an attack on him to draw him here in order to gain my revenge on him for almost wiping out my people, and it appears that I have finally succeeded. Where is he?" Rosanna asked eagerly.
"Sorry to disappoint you, but he's not here. You'll just have to deal with me this time," Amy said.
"I can work with that. I'll kidnap you and use you to draw the Doctor here instead. That works even better," Rosanna said with a pleased look on her face.
"If you can get me that is," Amy said.
"Oh, do you mean these men? Do you really think that they will protect you from me?" Rosanna asked with disdain as she looked at the soldiers between her and Amy.
"No, I mean that I can take care of myself, Rosanna. I'm not the same person that you met all of those centuries ago. I've changed. You still haven't asked yourself how I got here without the Doctor," Amy said.
Rosanna studied her closely for a moment and then hissed as she said, "Time Lord!"
"That's right. There was so much more to me then even I knew back then. I'm giving you a choice, Rosanna. Leave now or I'll have to stop you. Believe me when I say that you don't want me to do that," Amy said.
"I'm not afraid of you. I would have killed you once before if not for the Doctor," Rosanna said.
"Tell me, Rosanna. Have you ever heard stories about what happened to Telos, the adopted home planet of the Cybermen?" Amy asked curiously.
"Are you referring to the near destruction of the planet Telos by the Time Lords?" Rosanna asked.
Rory's ears perked up. What was this about? Amy had never told him about this.
"For those of us not in the know, fill us in on it," Amy said.
"Close to the time of the beginning of the Time War, the entire planet was almost ripped apart when the main processing plant of the Cybermen was destroyed in a massive explosion caused by a mysterious unknown attacker. The remaining Cybermen were forced to flee the planet, and their empire was sent into chaos for centuries afterwards. Many of them hid themselves in tombs immediately afterwards in order to avoid being found by whoever had attacked them. They're still little more than nomadic wanderers using their Cyber Fleets to travel from planet to planet even to this day. They've never fully recovered from it. I've heard legends that the Time Lords were behind it all which I really wouldn't put past them despite their so-called non-interference policy. So your people almost caused the near genocide of the Cybermen. So what? Does that make you tough by association?" Rosanna asked unimpressed.
"Not Time Lords plural, Rosanna. Just one Time Lord. Me," Amy said in a voice that suddenly turned cold.
"Oh, so you're trying to say that you're the infamous Cliodna. The one who the rumors said defeated the Cybermen all by herself? Don't make me laugh. No one person could have accomplished that much destruction all by themselves," Rosanna said.
"Look into my eyes, and tell me if you still think that," Amy said.
"Wait a minute! Are you saying that you almost destroyed the Cybermen singlehandedly?" Rory asked.
"Yes. I gave them what I thought was a knockout blow that they would never come back from. Once I did that, I didn't want to fight them anymore. I was just too tired of all of the destruction to want to pursue what was left of the rest of them any further. That was when I decided to use the Chameleon Arch on myself and make myself forget the pain that I was going through at the loss of Oisin and Sirona. I should have known that they would find a way to survive though. They always did," Amy said.
"I don't believe you for a minute. Even if you are Cliodna, you made that whole story up just to make yourself look good. If you're really so tough, then prove it. Face me all by yourself without your friends. If you can beat me, then I'll take myself and my people and leave," Rosanna said.
"I'll agree to that if you'll keep your word," Amy said.
"It's a trap, Amy," Rory whispered.
"Of course it's a trap. She thinks that I'm still helpless old Amy Pond, but she's going to get a very nasty surprise," Amy said with a confident smile on her face.
"You were never helpless, Amy," Rory said.
"Rory, I just wanted to say before I do this that I'm not proud of what I did on Telos. The Cybermen are terrible, but all of that death and destruction are just not me. That's why I became Amy. I was just sick of it. I went too far because I was trying to hurt them like they had hurt me, and I almost became as soulless as they are. I just wanted you to know that I wasn't bragging about it. I just hoped that my reputation would make her leave. I suppose I'll have to show her what I can do the old fashioned way though," Amy said.
"I really don't think that this is a good idea, Amy. We'll find some other way to stop them," Rory said.
"And not get everyone killed? This is the only way, Rory. I have to defeat them like this in order to save lives," Amy said.
Rory nodded but Amy could clearly see that he still didn't like it. She smiled confidently at him, and the soldiers parted to let her pass.
"I'm here, Rosanna. So how do you want to settle this?" Amy asked as soon as she came within a few feet of her.
"You Time Lords are all such fools. Of course I know who you are. I played on your feelings of guilt just as I played on the Doctor's. Now I've led you into a trap," Rosanna said smugly.
"Yes, I know that it's a trap, okay? Just spring it so that I can beat you, and we can all get this over with already," Amy said as she rolled her eyes at her.
"You certainly have the arrogance of a Time Lord alright, and now it will prove to be your undoing," Rosanna said as she pulled out a small device that Amy immediately recognized.
Before Amy could move to stop her, however, Rosanna quickly used it on her, and Amy began to fade away.
"Mum!" Julia screamed as she ran forward to help Amy.
"No, go back!" Amy shouted.
It was already too late though. Julia had just reached Amy and grabbed her hand when both of them suddenly vanished into thin air. Rosanna smiled in triumph and began to laugh as everyone looked at her in shock.
"What just happened? Are they dead?" Rory asked Selene as he flew into a sudden rage.
"No, not yet anyway. It's an osmic projector. A primitive form of time travel. She's stranded them both in another time. We may never find them now. Not unless we get that machine and study its settings," Selene said in a voice filled with anger.
"That's right. I used this to trap them in the distant past. It was given to me by someone who wanted her out of the way in days to come. I agreed to use it on both her and the Doctor. I used it on her first, and then I'll use it on the Doctor once he comes here to find out what happened to her. Once I accomplish that, then my revenge will be complete. Both Time Lords will be stranded in another time forever with no way to get back home," Rosanna said with glee.
"Give it to me!" Selene said in a voice filled with determination and anger.
"Come and get it, Time Lord, if you can," Rosanna said as several Saturnynines suddenly surrounded her.
"Open fire!" one of the soldiers shouted, and they started to shoot at the aliens out of fear.
"No! You might damage the projector, then we'll never find them!" Selene shouted but the soldiers ignored her.
Amy meanwhile arrived in the middle of what her time sense told her was London in the late 1500s. She looked down in relief to see that Julia was still there holding her hand. They could have easily been sent to separate times, and then they never would have found each other again.
"Are you okay, sweetie?" Amy asked in concern.
"I'm fine. Are we trapped here now?" Julia asked.
"Yes, I'm afraid that we are unless I can find some way out of this. I'm not sure if anyone will ever find us again. You should have stayed back like I told you to do," Amy said with disapproval in her voice.
"I couldn't leave you alone. I didn't want you to be stuck in the past by yourself," Julia said.
Amy smiled. She could understand that. If it had been Rory, she would have done the same for him. She couldn't condemn Julia for doing something that she herself would have done if she had been in her place.
"I would rather that you had stayed with your sister though where you'd be safe. I'm not sure how safe you'll be here," Amy said.
"We'll be fine as long as we have each other," Julia said confidently.
Amy knew that it hadn't truly hit her just yet that they may be stranded here forever and would never see the others again. She wasn't sure if she had fully accepted that yet herself because she still hadn't given up the hope that there was a way out of this.
There had to be a way out, and if there was she would find it. She wouldn't give up until she did.
"Well, hello there! Who are you, lovely lady?" a voice asked behind Amy.
Amy turned around to see a man with a huge grin on his face. He had apparently been standing behind her looking her up and down. He instantly looked at her with recognition and a bit of fear in his eyes as soon as he saw her face however.
"Oh, it's you, Amy. I'm so sorry! I never would have spoken to you that way if I had known that it was you. I thought that you looked familiar," the man said.
"Since you were only staring at me from behind until just now I should knock you into next week for saying that. Under the circumstances though, I'm going to let that statement go as disturbing as it is because I need your help. My daughter and I have been trapped here in the past, and I have to find a way out of here," Amy said.
"Of course, Amy. I'll do everything that I can to help. You have my word on that," the man said.
"Who is he?" Julia asked.
Amy looked at her proudly as she said, "Julia, I want you to meet an old friend of mine, William Shakespeare."
Next: Amy and Julia run across Queen Elizabeth I while trapped in the past. Surely she won't hold her grudge against the Doctor or the fact that Amy once accidentally got married to her father, Henry VIII, against them, will she? Meanwhile back in the 1940s, Rory and Selene desperately try to get the Osmic Projector back before it can be destroyed. Will they succeed? Who was really behind this attack on Amy anyway and why?
