A FINAL GOOD BYE PART 1
Luckily the Angels had never reached either Amy or the Matriarch, and eventually Rose did return once again. Then after Amy and her friends won a massive final battle against the Trickster and an entire army of Angels, Rose finally restored things back to normal once more by completely rebooting reality just in the nick of time.
Even as the proper reality was finally restored at last however, Amy could still sense that something wasn't quite right. She wasn't sure what just yet because everything certainly looked normal again but something was definitely off.
She had an uneasy feeling that she would find out exactly what that was very soon now though.
For now though Amy smiled with relief as she found herself, Rory, and the kids back at home in Leadworth once again. That had been where they had all been just before the Matriarch had changed things after all so that's exactly where they had wound up once more when Rose reset reality.
The universe loved to maintain a certain amount of consistency it seemed.
"Amy, did all of that really just happen? Please tell me that I didn't just imagine us suddenly having a completely different life for a while there," Rory asked in a confused voice.
"No, it was real alright. Now everything's completely back to normal though so don't worry about it. That's going to happen to you a lot now that you're a Time Lord. Reality is going to be partially or sometimes completely changed from time to time, and you're one of the few people who are going to be able to remember it once it's gone back to normal again," Amy reassured him.
"Well, that's going to be nice," Rory said with a frown.
"Yeah, you'll have to be extra careful what you say around others sometimes or they'll think that you're mad for remembering something that they don't. It's the downside of being a Time Lord. We always remember everything even things that never happened or no longer exist," Amy said with a sympathetic look.
"Yay for us," Rory said with a sigh.
"At least you weren't stuck as a little kid again in the other reality. I was the only one whose age was changed for some reason. Why am I always doomed to be stuck being a child all of the time anyway? I've already done that twice before so having it happen for a third time was definitely not my idea of fun," Sirona said in a furious voice.
"Oh, I don't know. I kind of liked getting to see this version of you as a child. I never got to raise Amber after all," Amy said with a warm smile as she put her arm around her.
"You already raised me once though as Sirona so what difference does it make?" Sirona asked with a shrug.
"I'm your mother. I don't like the idea of missing out on any of your life. I already had that happen to Melody and then it happened again with you. I can't help but wonder if that's why the Matriarch made you a kid again so that I wouldn't miss out on Amber's first words or steps," Amy mused.
"So you're saying that you may have done that to me somehow?" Sirona asked in an irritated voice.
Then she saw the sad look on her mother's face and her attitude immediately changed as she said with a smile, "I guess it's not so bad. It could have been worse I suppose. I could have come back in the proper reality still stuck as a child."
"Well, I for one am glad that you didn't. Having to go through that once with you was bad enough. You were a regular terror as a child," Amy teased her.
"I was not. I was a good girl," Sirona protested with a slight smile.
"Right and Mels was the poster child for normal behavior growing up," Amy said with a chuckle.
"Mels? Do you mean me? Did you get to raise me after all?" Melody asked in a hopeful voice.
Amy immediately winced as she said, "Sort of but not in the way that I would have wanted, sweetie. I can't tell you more than that and I probably shouldn't have told you that much. Sorry."
"That's okay. I'm glad that you said it, Mother. It kind of makes me feel better about what's coming in a way," Melody admitted with a sad smile.
That's a perfect example of saying something that you shouldn't right there, Mr. Pond. Learn from my mistakes. Amy said to Rory telepathically with a grimace on her face.
What mistakes? You don't make mistakes. Rory replied back with a slight smile.
Yeah, I was wondering when you'd bring that up. Someone's feeling awful brave today, aren't they? Amy responded with a seductive smile as she started to move closer to him.
"They're doing it again. I always hate it when they flirt telepathically and think that we won't notice," Selene said with a loud groan.
"So what else is new? The sad thing is that those two don't even need to do it telepathically. They can flirt just by looking at one another," Sirona said with a snort.
Then both of them noticed that Julia hadn't joined in with their laughter. In fact, she was looking like she was trying very hard not to cry.
Amy had just noticed this as well and immediately put her arms around her as she said in a concerned voice, "What is it, honey? Is it because you don't remember the other reality since you're human?"
Julia nodded as she said in an emotional voice, "I don't like being the odd one out. It makes me feel like I don't belong when the rest of you suddenly start talking about something that I don't remember in the slightest. It's like I'm being left out of everything."
Amy immediately shook her head as she said, "Of course you belong. Don't ever think that, okay? I don't care that you're human, Julia. In fact, I love that about you. I love you exactly the way that you are, and I wouldn't change you for anything. Do you understand?"
Julia smiled and nodded as she said, "Yeah. I know that, Mum. It still bothers me whenever something like this happens though."
"Well, it shouldn't because you really didn't miss out on much. If it helps you any though, here's everything that you missed," Amy said as she placed her hands on the sides of Julia's head and briefly let her share in her memories of the other reality.
Julia immediately began to smile as she said, "Oh, I really love that. I was the older sister for once. I actually told someone else what to do. Now I really miss that place."
Sirona smirked at her as she joked, "Don't get too used to it, Jules. I'm the older one again now so you still take orders from me."
Selene cleared her throat loudly as she said, "Oh, no. She still takes orders from me. I'm older than the lot of you and she was my sister first."
"For the record, I never took orders from any of you not even in the other reality," Melody said with a satisfied look on her face.
"Yeah, I never even try to tell you what to do anymore. Having part of my room mysteriously set on fire once was more than enough for me," Julia said with a slightly frightened look.
"No one ever proved that I had anything to do with that. Besides you weren't even there at the time," Melody protested.
"And that makes it okay then?" Julia said in an angry voice.
"Hey! Hey! That's enough, you two," Amy said as she suddenly got in-between them.
"I wouldn't have hurt you, you know? I'd never do that no matter how angry I got with you," Melody said to Julia in a serious tone.
Julia smiled at her briefly as she said, "I know but I still don't appreciate it. You need to learn to control yourself before you actually do hurt someone by accident."
Melody looked grim as she said, "That's the thing though. I've been trained much too well to ever hurt anyone by accident. I always know exactly what I'm doing. That just makes things even worse."
"Melody, you don't have to do anything that you don't want to do no matter what that woman tells you. You're your own person and no one owns you. No one. Always remember that," Amy said as she looked deeply into the troubled child's eyes.
Melody nodded with a small smile as she said, "I will, Mother."
"Good," Amy said as she hugged Melody and somehow managed to successfully hold back the tears that threatened to fall at the very thought of losing her again in the near future.
"Hello?" A woman's voice suddenly said causing everyone in the room to instantly look up in alarm.
It especially caused Amy to become alarmed because she recognized that voice. She should after all since it was once hers.
Standing there before them was the first incarnation of Cliodna. The others all looked at the tall redhead in amazement as they realized that she looked and acted similar to the current Amy and yet in some ways was completely different. For one thing, she was dressed in a typical Time Lord Academy outfit that didn't show a bit of leg and for another she didn't have the slightest trace of a Scottish accent.
Amy guessed that this version of her must be from very early on in her life because even her first incarnation had started to speak with a slight Scottish lilt to her voice eventually. This was because she had started to become extremely interested in Scotland in her last year at the Academy and had taught herself how to speak like the people there as a result.
"Hello, my name is Cliodna. I have absolutely no idea where I am or how I got here wherever here is. Do any of you know anyth . . ." The First Cliodna said to say as she looked around the room in bewilderment.
Then she stopped and looked straight at Amy as she said with a relieved smile, "Well, it's nice to see at least one familiar face even if it is one that I've never seen before. It's nice to see that I still look good in the future."
Amy smiled as she looked her first self up and down with approval and said, "It's nice to see that I looked good in the past too. You know I actually forgot how great I looked back then."
"Oh, you're just saying that," The First Cliodna said with false modesty.
"No, I really mean it. I really looked good when I was you. Didn't I, Rory?" Amy said with a wide grin.
Rory stood there with an uncertain look on his face as he said in a nervous voice, "I'm not exactly sure what to say."
Both Amys started to become angry as Amy said, "And why is that then? You don't think that I was pretty then?"
"No, that's not it at all. I just don't want you to become jealous of yourself if I say something nice about another one of you," Rory admitted.
Both Amys laughed now as Amy said, "Is that it? You don't have to worry about that, Rory. Unlike the Doctors, I don't ever get jealous of or angry with my other selves. We always get along perfectly in fact."
The First Cliodna now looked at Rory with a huge smile of approval on her face as she said, "Please tell me that I'm married to him in the future."
"That's right. It's something to look forward to, isn't it?" Amy said as she looked at him proudly.
"It certainly is," The First Cliodna said with an ever widening grin as she started to invade Rory's personal space and her face came dangerously close to his.
"Uh . . ." Rory said in an uncertain voice as he looked to Amy for help.
"He's articulate too. Can I have a little kiss?" The First Cliodna said as her lips now came within inches of Rory's.
"Don't push it, Sister. We may be close but I'm not about to share him with any of the rest of me. You'll just have to wait until you get your own Rory," Amy said in anger as she violently pulled her past self away from Rory.
"What happened to never getting jealous of yourself?" Selene asked with a snicker.
"Shut up," Amy said as she glared at her.
"Oh, we're jealous of ourselves alright. We just never like to admit it," Another voice that was familiar to Amy said behind them.
Amy looked beside her to see yet another past version of her standing there. This giggling brunette who was dressed like a Gibson Girl from the early Twentieth Century was her fourth incarnation who was traveling through time and space just like the Doctor at this point in her life. Cliodna had long since left Gallifrey back in her first incarnation after thinking that most of the people that she loved were dead. Ironically this particular version of her had wound up traveling with Amber who would later turn out to be Sirona.
This was a fact that she was just about to find out for herself.
"Oh, no. What is this? A convention of mes?" Amy said with a sigh.
"Well, if it is I certainly didn't come willingly," The Fourth Cliodna said as she anxiously looked around the room for any clues as to how she had gotten there.
Then she began to cry as she spotted one face in particular and said, "Sirona? Amber, you were Sirona? You're alive!"
"Hello, Mum," Sirona said with a warm smile as she hugged the past version of her mother tightly.
The Fourth Cliodna continued to cry as she said in a voice filled with joy, "You're alive."
"And one day we'll be reunited again for real," Sirona said as she kissed her mother on the forehead.
"I only wish that it was now. I miss you so much," The Fourth Cliodna said in an anguished voice as she held Sirona.
"Who is she and what happened to her?" The First Cliodna asked Amy in a troubled voice.
"She's our daughter and for a long time we think that she's dead," Amy explained.
"Amy, should you really be telling her that?" Rory asked.
"Oh, it really doesn't matter. I'll forget all of this when I go back to my proper place in our timestream anyway," The First Cliodna reassured him.
"If you go back that is. That isn't a sure thing by any means," Another voice that wasn't familiar to any of them suddenly said in a soft almost gentle tone.
They all looked to see a blonde woman in her early twenties who dressed like she came out of a Jane Austen novel standing there with an extremely worried look on her face.
"Who is that?" Rory asked a surprised Amy because she clearly knew exactly who this newest arrival was.
"She's . . . me. A future me or at least a possible future me anyway," Amy said as she looked at the blonde with great sadness.
The future Amy immediately said in a reassuring voice, "Don't get upset. You don't lose that particular body for a long, long time yet. Trust me."
Amy nodded with a look of relief on her face as she said, "I would never lie to myself so I do trust you. Thank you for telling me. This particular body really means a lot to me."
"I know. That's why I wanted to reassure you," The future Amy said with a soft smile.
Rory noticed right away that this particular Amy had a soft, almost melodious voice. He also saw that she seemed to be almost shy like in her behavior because she seemed to be more than a bit nervous to be around them.
He also noticed something else.
"She's very nice, isn't she?" Rory said without thinking.
"Are you saying that I'm not?" Amy asked in an insulted tone.
Rory quickly said, "No, of course not. You're nice too. Extremely nice. I just meant that she's even nicer is all."
The future Amy laughed in a good natured way and said in an amused tone, "Nice save, Mr. Pond. I've almost forgotten how hard I used to be to get along with back then."
"Hey!" Amy said in anger.
"You're not that bad," Rory said as he looked at both Amys at once.
"You have to say that. You love me," The future Amy said as she gave him a warm smile.
"Okay, stop bashing us, Elizabeth Bennet, and tell me what's going on here," Amy demanded.
"Oh, is that who you're dressed like? You always did like that book," Rory asked as a light bulb went off in his head.
"Yeah, apparently a little too much," Amy said as she looked at her future self with a grimace.
"One day you'll love this look. Believe me. So what makes you think that I know what's going on any better than you do?" The possible future Ninth Amy/Cliodna said.
"You're from the future so you know exactly how it turns out or at least how it turned out for you anyway," Amy said.
"True but what happens soon is so dangerous that it could still turn out very badly for all of us. That's why I'm more than a bit hesitant to be too sure about anything. We come so close to dying today, Amy, that I'm afraid to say anything much for fear of altering my own future," The Ninth Amy said in a clearly worried tone.
"It's that bad is it?" Amy said as she stated finally realizing just how much danger that they were in now.
"Yes, it certainly is. That's why Mum sent us here," Cassiopeia said as she and Charlotte materialized in the middle of the room.
"Now I know it's bad if Rose sent help. Just what is it anyway? Does it have something to do with what just happened? I thought she repaired all of the damage to reality," Amy said in a voice that was growing more concerned by the moment.
"She did but the Trickster left a little something extra behind in order to get rid of you. It was a little going away present from him for helping Mum. He even yanked a few of your other selves out of time in order to increase his likelihood of killing you. Apparently he got a future version of you by mistake while he was at it. Mum wasn't sure that she should erase this event or not when she restarted things since it involved so many of you and was more than a bit tricky to resolve so she sent us to help you through it instead," Cassiopeia explained.
"Things are already turning out differently than they were before it seems. Those two weren't here at all in the original timeline," The Ninth Amy said in surprise.
"Maybe that's a good thing though. It might give us a better chance of surviving this. Whatever it is," Amy said as she tried to look hopeful despite feeling very ill at ease.
"Maybe," The Ninth Amy said in a clearly unconvinced tone.
"Exactly what is going on here anyway? What is this Big Bad that's coming to get us all?" Selene asked.
Suddenly an entire wall was blown apart by a massive blast of energy that sent them all instantly flying across the room.
"I think we're about to find out," Julia said in a frightened voice as everyone looked towards the huge gaping hole in the house where a wall used to be with a sense of growing dread.
"What?" Amy said in disbelief as she saw who was standing there.
"Hello, Amy. The Trickster sends his regards," An exact duplicate of Amy said as she stood there holding an enormous gun that was obviously built from Cyberman technology.
"Who are you?" Amy asked even as she started to think of several different ways to safely get that gun away from her before she could use it again.
"Why, I'm you of course. Or at least another Ganger made of you anyway. Only I'm not just an ordinary Ganger, am I?" The other Amy said with a malicious smile.
"Be careful, Amy. She's not what she seems," Charlotte warned.
"Will everyone quit being all cryptic and just tell me what's going on already?" Amy said in an enraged tone.
"Alright, I will. You may not like it though," The other Amy said with undisguised glee as she suddenly rushed towards her at such incredible speed that she couldn't even see her move.
"What the?!" Amy said in shock as she finally realized what her double was at last.
"That's right. I'm part Ganger and part Cyberman, and I think exactly like you do. The Trickster and the Cybermen both thought that would make me the perfect weapon to kill you, and I'm about to do my best to prove them right," The Cyber Amy said as she suddenly appeared right in front of the First Cliodna and grabbed her throat in a vice-like grip.
"Be very careful with how you handle this, Amy," The Ninth Amy warned.
"Now what should I do, hmm? Should I kill stupid old Cliodna here or convert her instead? I'm not sure which one I like better. I'm currently leaning towards conversion though. I really like the idea of making you the new leader of the Cybermen. Either way your future's about to drastically change in a few seconds.
"Just let her go and take me on instead," Amy said.
"Oh, you'd like that wouldn't you? You know I can't convert you after all since you put that virus that destroys all Cyber technology in your bloodstream. No, I think that I'll stay with this version of you thank you very much. In fact, I think I've finally made my decision on how to get rid of you now. After all, she's not immune to us yet is she?" Cyber Amy said as she suddenly injected the First Cliodna in the neck with a sharpened needle that sprang out of her arm.
The First Cliodna screamed in agony as she began to immediately be converted into a Cyberman right in front of their horrified eyes. Amy could already see her entire timeline changing even as she felt herself starting to become cold and unemotional while her body began to be covered in metal just as Cliodna's did.
She immediately collapsed to her knees in pain as a result of her horrific transformation just as the other Cliodnas/Amys now did as well.
"Amy!" Rory said in horror as he and the rest of Amy's family all started to fade in and out of existence while Amy's timeline was being forcibly rewritten right on the spot.
"We're too late. We couldn't stop it in time," Cassiopeia said in stunned disbelief.
"Not yet we aren't. I just thought of something. I'll be right back," Charlotte said as she dematerialized.
"Charlotte, wait!" Cassiopeia said in she watched her go.
"Well, it looks like someone knew when the getting was good didn't they?" Cyber Amy said with an evil laugh.
Then just as soon as she had left Charlotte returned, and this time she had someone else with her.
"I brought a little extra help," Charlotte said.
"I just hope that this 'help' doesn't make things even worse," Cassiopeia said with a skeptical look.
"Trust me," Charlotte said with a sly grin.
"You! She really must be desperate to bring you here," Cyber Amy said with a chuckle.
"Or maybe she's a lot smarter than you thought because after she spared my life when we last met I changed my mind about Amy. No one's doing anything to her while I'm around. If she makes Rory happy, then I'll fight to the death in order to protect her. Undo what you just did to the past version of her right now or I'll cut you to shreds," Jennifer Lucas threatened as she turned into a monstrous version of herself with large razor-like blades where her arms were.
"Oh, now this should be fun . . . for about two seconds," Cyber Amy said as she rushed forward to clash with the homicidal Ganger.
"Rory, I – I can hardly think anymore," Amy said in a now almost Cyber sounding voice.
"Hang on, Amy. Jennifer will save us. I know she will," Rory said as he grabbed her now mostly metal hand and tried his best to squeeze it tightly despite his body fading in and out of reality more and more rapidly by the moment.
"I never thought I'd ever hear myself saying that sentence," Rory admitted with a frown.
"I can't believe my best hope is Jennifer Lucas. When did my life suddenly become so surreal?" Amy said in a stunned voice as she continued to watch Jennifer fight for her life even while she felt her own individuality being rapidly stripped away from her.
Was this really the end?
Next: Will Amy really be converted into a Cyberman and have her entire timeline forcibly changed? Or is there still time to save both her and her family's future? Will Jennifer really have to fight the Cyber Amy by herself or does our Amy and her other selves have a little fight left in them yet?
