Luke sat down with the lightsaber pieces in front of him. He remembered what Fress told him about trusting the Force to show him what to do when piecing the lightsaber together. He closed his eyes and stretched out with the Force lifting the pieces into the air. He lifted the crystal into the air next as he sensed which piece went where.
Before he knew it, the pieces came together as he felt someone tap him on the shoulder. He looked up as Ahsoka smiled at him. He reached out and picked up the handle and handed it to her.
Ahsoka pulled out the chamber inspecting it to make sure it was put together correctly and nodded in satisfaction. "You're a quick learner, Luke. I remember one time a youngling had put his chamber in backwards," she handed the lightsaber back to Luke. "Go ahead and turn it on."
Luke smiled wearily as he hit the activation button as a green blade appeared with a snap hiss. He gave it a few quick flicks and placed his hand near the blade. He didn't feel any heat, which meant the heat conductors were working. He deactivated the blade as he looked at Ahsoka and grinned.
"Never lose the weapon, Luke. This weapon is your life and responsibility," Ahsoka warned with a tight smile. "You should go show Anakin. He'll want to know that his son is well onto his way to being a Jedi Knight."
Luke stood up and gave a nod in agreement as he headed towards Anakin's room. As he neared the room, he watched the medic and nurse walk out. The medic didn't look too thrilled with the fact that Anakin left without his consent. He entered the room and walked to the hover bed. "Father, I finished my lightsaber."
Anakin sat up and gave a grin as Luke handed the handle over. "You have, have you? The Emperor was right about one thing. You are as powerful as he has foreseen. You're meant to help me to stop him," he looked down and examined the hilt then hit the activation button. He smiled in satisfaction as a green blade appeared with a snap hiss. "I'm proud of you, Luke."
"Thanks father," Luke said as Anakin deactivated the blade and handed the handle back to Luke.
"It's a shame you lost mine," Anakin commented as Luke shook his head sadly.
"That was not my fault," Luke whined as he flexed his bionic hand.
"I know, it's mine," Anakin finished with a heavy sigh. "I'm going to need to make a new lightsaber to use. I can't carry around Vader's anymore. That will be on my list of things to get done."
"Are you really going to scare the slaver?" Luke questioned with a frown wondering if he heard Fress's plan right. With Anakin's feared reputation, he didn't think it would take much.
"Luke, he's slaver scum," Anakin answered with an angry expression causing Luke to grimace. "Your grandmother was sold as a slave before I was born. Of course I'm going to scare him. If Fress agrees, we should go pay this Aunt and Uncle a visit and scare them for selling Brice in the first place."
"Why do I suddenly have a bad feeling about this," Luke muttered under his breath. "This is a bad idea about visiting the Aunt and Uncle."
"Perhaps," Anakin agreed with a tight smile. "On the other hand, I want to teach them a lesson. You don't sell family in the slave market. I promise not to hurt them. I just want to scare them real good."
"You're a bit too late on that," Leia commented with a frown causing Anakin to look up. "Fress and Jess left half an hour ago to go talk with them."
"And they didn't ask me to tag a long?" Anakin questioned in a slightly hurt tone.
"They asked the medic for consent, but the medic wouldn't agree to it," Leia answered with a frown. "And tomorrow the smuggler Fress talked too will be coming to pick up the credits. The medic has agreed you can meet with the smuggler on one condition."
"And what is this condition of his?" Anakin questioned with a frown.
"He gets something to sterilize your tanks with today, so the tank is ready for tomorrow," Leia answered with a frown. "He doesn't know Tatooine well enough and needs a guide."
"Luke does," Anakin pointed out a small grin. "Son, would you mind taking the medic to the market to get his supplies?" He questioned Luke as he turned his attention to his son who was placing his newly constructed lightsaber on his belt.
"Sure father," Luke answered with a smile as he leaned over the bed and hugged Anakin. "I forgive you, father. That wasn't you at Cloud City. I see that now."
Anakin returned the hug as tears threatened to over take him. Luke was beginning to understand that the dark side can change you for the worst. "I love you, son. Something tells me, you'll be a great Jedi one day."
"Thanks father," Luke whispered back before he straightened up. "I'll take the medic to town now," he walked out of the room as Bren looked at him with a frown. "I grew up on this planet and have agreed to take you."
The medic smiled and nodded as they headed for the entrance of the dwelling. Luke grabbed his robe and handed a spare to Bren. "Put this on, it'll protect you from the heat."
Bren accepted with a smile as he pulled the robe over himself and followed Luke out of the dwelling.
Fress pulled the speeder to a stop in front of the home of Brice's Aunt and Uncle's place as she glanced at Jess with a frown. She wanted to know but at the same time, she would rather not know. Jess was a little instant to find out the truth and to be honest, she was curious herself. She was not a happy mother. "Are you sure about this, Jess?" She questioned as Jess nodded.
"I'm sure, too bad we couldn't talk the medic into releasing Anakin. He would really have a few things to say on the subject," Jess answered with a serious expression.
Fress nodded in agreement. Anakin's life started out as a slave then a Jedi turned Sith Lord back to a Jedi. "Let's get this over with," she climbed out of the speeder as a woman in her late thirties walked out to meet them. She released her anger into the Force and took a deep breath and slowly breathed it out.
"I'm Shala Shean," Shala introduced herself. "I believe we spoke on the communicator?"
"Yes we have," Fress answered. "I'm Fress and this is Jess, may we speak inside?"
"You wouldn't tell me what this was about," Shala pointed out with a frown. "Will you tell me now before we go inside?"
"We heard what happened with Loran and Brila," Fress answered with a saddened expression. "We're Brice's biological parents and we've come to see how he's doing."
"I think we should speak inside," Shala invited as they followed her inside. It made Fress begin to wonder if Shala would go with the truth or lie to them. There was only one way to find out.
Fress glanced around the dwelling noting it looked like they recently came into some credits. Most moisture farmers were not that rich or that's what she thought they were, considering they had evaporators out front. "Are you moisture farmers?"
"No, we're not. The family who used to live here before us were," Shala answered as Fress raised an eyebrow. "The family was killed by a storm trooper attack a couple of years ago and their nephew took off."
Fress raised an eyebrow as she felt shock rush though her. The place was far more fancy then she remembered, but Beru and Owen were never greedy. She couldn't see the couple having anymore then what they needed to survive. "By any chance, this is the Lars homestead and said nephew was Luke Skywalker?"
"Have a seat," Shala said as Jess and Fress sat down at the table. Shala had avoided her question causing her to frown. "You're probably wondering where Brice is? Or you already know which is the real reason for your visit."
"And what reason would that be?" Fress questioned in a slightly angry tone as Jess grabbed her hand and shot her a warning glare. "We're here to make sure he's okay or find him a new home if you can't take care of him."
"You're a little late for that, considering we already found him a new home," Shala answered as she stared at Fress with a hardened expression. "That brother of mine should've never taken in a child of the Jedi. I sold him into slavery and now we're all set for the rest of our lives."
"You resented a child for being Force sensitive?" Fress questioned with anger in her tone. Wait until Anakin finds out who took over the Lars homestead. Especially after the Lars had treated his mother and raising Luke, she could see Anakin diving off the deep end. "You sold our son into slavery? That was not apart of our agreement. If something happened to Loran and Brila, Brice was supposed to come back to us. We only want to keep our son safe."
"Where have you been for the past ten years? As far as I'm concerned you don't deserve to have him back," Shala snipped as Fress moved her hand up forming her hand into the Force choke hold as Jess grabbed her hand and shook his head in warning.
"We kept in contact with them for the past ten years," Fress answered as she hardened her expression causing Shala to cringe. "They sent us holos and his progress reports. They told us stories about how Brice was happy and how well he was doing. We gave them financial support when they asked for it. We even made arrangements to give him gifts on his life day. Giving up Brice was the hardest thing we ever had to do."
"Fress, watch the anger," Jess warned in a low tone. "Remember what happened to Anakin?"
Fress felt the fight drain out of her as Jess reminded her that anger was apart of the dark side. She shook her head feeling frustration well up in her as she turned her attention to Jess. "We should go. We've already learned what we can from this. We'll get Brice back somehow," she turned her attention back to Shala with a frown. "I was going to ask you if you would reconsider your deal."
Shala shook her head. "I'm sorry but the credits is enough to keep us comfortable for the rest of our lives."
Fress felt sick to her stomach. Loran was nothing like his sister. He loved Brice and kept him healthy and safe, unlike Shala. Jess placed a hand onto her shoulder. "Let's go. there is nothing more we can do from here," he whispered in her ear.
Shala didn't say a word as they left the dwelling. She felt frustrated that they didn't seem to care on what they've done to Brice and cared more about the credits. She was tempted to allow Anakin to come back here and scare them. Jess wrapped an arm around her shoulders as she leaned into him.
Brice sat down on his bed as he took out the message again. Grentan had taken off for an emergency meeting somewhere and planned to be back in an hour. He hit the play button and paused it as he looked at the couple. He noticed right away he had Fress's eyes, but he looked more like Jess. Could that mean he was Force sensitive as well? Or could something like that be passed from parent to child?
All those times of unexplained objects floating in the air from time to time, could that mean it was him all this time? Brice held out his hand as he focused on the cube. He closed his eyes as he sensed what felt like alive around him and what didn't. He sensed where the cube was in his hand as he willed it into the air.
Brice opened his eyes as he watched the cube float in front of him causing him to smile. He really was a child of the Jedi. And he sensed the truth behind Fress and Jess's words. He really was their son.
Brice reached out and took the cube out of the air and continued to play the message. Their voices were soothing and reassuring. He hoped they were as nice as his adoptive parents. Soon he didn't have to live with Grentan anymore and he was looking forward to when they came for him. He turned off the holo recording and hid it under the mattress. He lay down and hugged his pillow. Soon he will be out of this place.
He was a little worried about it being Vader coming, but his parents didn't seem the too trusting type otherwise they wouldn't have survived for this long after the Empire started killing Jedi. If they trusted him again, that was good enough for him.
