Anakin sat up as Leia entered the room with a slight smile. "What's up?" Then he noticed a glass of water in her hand. Does Bren want him to swallow something after twenty years of not eating anything at all? "Really?"
"Bren said due to the amount of liquids he's putting in your IV, he wants to know if you can handle liquids directly. He said the safest thing to start off with is a glass of water. Slow small sips, you don't know how you'll react," Leia explained as he noticed a bowl in her other hand. "This is just in case you bring it back up."
Anakin took the glass and looked at the liquid feeling queasy at the thought. He hadn't swallowed anything since he was placed in the armor twenty years ago. He was not looking forward to this at all. He swallowed hard as he removed the oxygen mask and tasted the water. It was cool and refreshing against the dryness of his mouth. He started guzzling it down as Leia wrestled the glass out of his hand by the time he was halfway through.
"He said small sips, not guzzle it down," Leia lectured as she handed him the bowl.
"Can I have the rest?" Anakin questioned in a hopeful tone knowing it was useless to ask.
"We'll see," Leia answered with a serious expression. "It depends if you can hold it down or not."
Anakin sat back as Leia prepared to make him wait. He felt okay until his stomach growled fifteen minutes later. He looked at Leia prepared to take glass out of her hand by levitation if he had too. "I'm starving. May I have the rest now?"
Leia handed the glass back over as he removed the mask and guzzled the rest of the water down. He was tempted to ask for a second glass. "Can I have a second glass?"
Leia gave him a disbelief expression causing Anakin to grimace. "When was the last time you actually swallowed anything solid?"
"Hours before you were born," Anakin answered honestly as Leia raised an eyebrow. "It's cool and refreshing. I want more water."
"I'll talk to Bren first," Leia heaved a frustrated sigh. "The next step is to give you a nutritional shake by mouth," Anakin shot her a disbelief expression. "You need something more substantial on your stomach then just water," she pointed out. "Or you will be bringing it back up," she stood up and walked out of the room not giving him a chance to respond.
Leia reappeared in the room with a glass of goop? It was grayish brown color and looked unappetizing. "I think I'll chance it with the water instead."
"Sorry Anakin, medic's order," Leia answered as she handed him the glass. "Small sips this time, please."
"Well, since you said please," Anakin accepted the glass of gunk? He examined it closely. It looked like it would taste chalky and unpleasant. "Are you sure this is safe to drink? It looks poisonous."
"Bren isn't sure how you'll react so he gave you something for sensitive stomachs," Leia explained with a frown. "I know something like this can be intimidating, especially after not eating anything for twenty years. You'll be fine. If you do bring it back up, it'll between you and me and no one else."
"What do I have to lose?" Anakin questioned as he removed the oxygen mask and started to drink the…. It did taste like gunk, goop? Junk maybe? It had the taste of someone trying to poison him. He slowly drank half and pulled the glass away. He handed the glass to Leia as she handed him the bowl. He felt his stomach churn over, as he felt a bit weird but no nausea. He hoped it stayed that way. Leia rested her hand on his shoulder causing him to smile. He had a feeling she was slowly beginning to forgive him.
Fress entered Anakin's room as he looked at her with a frown. She could sense him probing her with the Force but she put up her mind shields in a way that asked for privacy. "We wanted you to come, but maybe it's a good thing you didn't," she explained as Anakin raised an eyebrow with a curious expression. "They sold Brice so they could retire early and they resented Brice for being born Force sensitive."
"Is that all?" Anakin questioned in an angry sarcastic tone as Fress sat down in the chair. "I sense something else coming from you, Fress."
"They bought the Lars homestead," Fress explained causing Anakin's jaw to drop open. "They wouldn't tell me for sure but the story they told me lines up with what Luke told me."
"I told them to leave Owen and Beru alone," Anakin heaved a heavy frustrated sigh. "They over took the Lars homestead? Clieg Lars bought and freed my mother and then married her. They were good people. I want them out."
"Depends if they bought the homestead or if they just moved in," Fress pointed out in a patient tone. "Depends if Luke sold the dwelling or not."
"I haven't sold the dwelling yet, just renting," Luke commented as he walked into the room. "What's going on?"
Anakin explained the situation to Luke as he requested to evict the couple from the dwelling. Luke heaved a heavy sigh as he turned his attention to Fress and shook his head. "I allowed them to move in there, if I had known the kind of people they were, I wouldn't have agreed to it." He turned his attention to Anakin. "I'm sorry, father."
"Don't worry about it, Luke. You didn't know better," Anakin reassured with a frown. "Just get them out."
Fress glanced at Luke knowing he may go ahead with it. There was a good chance the couple had nowhere to go. "Give them a month to find a new place to live, they may have no where else to go. We don't want to sink down to their level."
"Good point," Luke agreed with a frown as he turned his attention to Anakin. "Does two months from now sound okay?"
"Two months sounds appropriate," Anakin answered in agreement. "No point in making them homeless no matter how much I think they deserve it."
"Good, I'll get an eviction notice," Luke spoke with a frustrated sigh as he glanced at Fress. "They told me they had a nephew they planned to look after, if I had known they planned to sell him into slavery…"
"You could've never predicted that, Luke," Anakin explained gently as he stared at Luke. "Before we go ahead with this, we should make sure it's the same homestead or not. What was the couple's last name?"
"Shean," Luke answered as he looked at Fress. "The female was called Shala…"
"That's them," Fress pointed out with a frown.
"Can I deliver the eviction notice?" Anakin questioned with a hopeful tone causing Luke to raise an eyebrow. "I take that as a maybe?"
Luke heaved a frustrated sigh as Fress shook her head sadly. "Fine, you get to give them the eviction notice under one condition."
"And this condition of yours is?" Anakin questioned with a curious expression.
"Don't scare them too much and I get to go with you," Luke answered with a serious expression. "I made the deal with them originally."
"I agree to your condition," Anakin said with a neutral expression. "I promise not to over do it."
"I'm going to hold you to that," Luke said with a slight smile. "Just don't make me regret this anymore then I already have."
"I promise," Anakin promised with a tight smile as Fress shook her head. She knew how Anakin behaved around slavers. He always lost his temper with them. And this worried her. She didn't like the fact what they did to her son, on the other hand... She knew Anakin had a temper. She had a bad feeling about this.
Anakin sat down at the table as Luke sat down beside him. Fress led the smuggler in for them to have a little chat about what they needed him to do. He decided not to wear the armor, he didn't want to scare the smuggler. "Have a seat, Briean."
Briean sat down as he gave Fress a confused expression as she gave an apologetic smile. "Who are these two, General and can they be trusted?"
"It's on a need to know bases," Fress answered calmly. "And they can be trusted, that's all you need to know."
"All right, what is my destination?" Briean questioned with a frown.
"You'll find out when you get there," Anakin answered with a serious expression. "Chewie has his instructions and will be programming the nav computer."
"Kessel?" Briean guessed with a serious expression.
"We need a good smuggler to make this run for us," Anakin explained in a patient tone. "General Colias's son was sold into slavery and we need the spice for the ransom."
"I'm sorry, general. I didn't realize this was personal," Briean quickly apologized. "I'll make the run for you."
"Thank you. This is the reason why I'm doubling your fee to make it worth your while," Fress explained with a serious expression.
"I'm willing to do this one for free for you," Brien commented with a frown. "If you want to throw in for fuel and food instead, I wouldn't object,"
"This is only half of the reason," Fress answered with a smile. "I appreciate the offer. I feel better off paying you instead."
"That's fine too," Briean answered with a smile. "You're Luke Skywalker right?" Luke nodded as he looked at Anakin again as if trying to piece who he was together. "You have the same eyes. Anakin Skywalker I presume?"
Anakin gave a tight smile as Fress shook her head. "The boy knows his history, impressive."
"I heard a rumor that Vader is getting Solo free for his daughter. I'm guessing you're him," Briean spoke with a frown. "But you're not wearing the armor…."
"She's in love with the lout, nothing more I can do about that. I was hoping she would fall in love with someone a little less brash. We have enough of that going on in the family as is without adding into the mix," Anakin explained with a tight smile. "I didn't wear the armor because I didn't want to scare you off."
Briean hid a half smile at Anakin's explanation as he looked at Fress. "I'm willing to do this. Just knowing General Skywalker put Solo into carbonite for getting frisky with his daughter is amusing and worth my while already."
"Thank you, I appreciate it," Anakin gave a half smile. "We want you to leave as soon as your ship is prepped. Time is running short."
"I understand," Briean stood up and glanced at Fress. "Where is Chewie?"
"Waiting for you at your ship," Fress answered as Briean gave a nod and left the room. "Did you really have to call him a lout?" She questioned turning her attention to Anakin.
"He's uncouth and lacking manners," Anakin answered with a frown. "Lout seems to suit him well."
Fress rolled her eyes as she started to leave the room. "You'll find out that Han maybe lacking manners, but he worships the ground Leia walks on. Once you get to know him, you'll like him. Don't judge him before you get to know him. Don't let Leia catch you with your foot in your mouth," she walked out of the room causing Anakin to a heave a sigh.
"Han is the one, father. I view him as an older brother. No matter how much you try to fight it. I know her heart is with Han," Luke explained as he patted Anakin on the shoulder. Luke stood up as Anakin did as well.
"I'll have to give him a chance, for Leia's sake," Anakin said as he picked up the portable oxygen tank and followed Luke out of the room. If Han worships the ground Leia walks on, that's all he needed to know and that was good enough for him. Luke saw him as a big brother and that spoke quite highly of Han's true character despite the rumors he heard. Han was the man threatening to take his baby girl away from him. It was too fast for him. He hoped they waited a couple of years at least.
Anakin sat on the couch placing the oxygen tank beside the couch. Luke and Fress were sure of Han's feelings towards Leia. He smiled to himself. His little girl was in love. If Padme were here she would be telling him the same thing Fress told him. Give Han a chance to prove himself. He had to, the others already have. He felt someone take his hand causing him to look beside him at Leia. "Hi."
"Fress told me you have doubts about Han, or you wouldn't have called him uncouth or a lout," Leia spoke with a small smile. "Do you have a habit of sticking your foot in your mouth?"
Anakin chuckled as he remembered Padme making him sleep on the couch once or defying him by going on a mission he forbid her to go on. "I slept in a hotel or two just to get some good sleep or on the ship."
"What's really going on, Anakin?" Leia questioned in concern. "Does it feel fast for you?"
"Yes it does," Anakin answered honestly. "One minute your mother is telling me she is pregnant and the next minute you are all grown up and telling me you're in love with someone. I lost twenty years with you. And it's hitting me harder then I thought it would. I do plan to get to know Han."
"That's all I ask," Leia said with a relieved smile. "We're still in the stage of exploring our feelings with each other. We're not going to get married right away or anything. We're going to take it slow. I promise."
"That's all I needed to hear," Anakin felt relief as Leia patted his hand. "I promise I will get to know him."
"Try not to scare him off," Leia asked with a smile. "I do love him, but his answer was I know. What kind of an answer is that?"
"Maybe he needed to hear you say it first?" Anakin questioned with a frown. "We didn't give much time for anyone to express their feelings with each other too well and that kiss you two shared says it all."
Leia smiled and nodded in agreement. "Don't worry, we don't plan to move too fast. All right?"
"All right," Anakin agreed as Leia surprised him by hugging him. He stiffened from the contact at first because he wasn't expecting it. He slowly wrapped his arms around Leia holding her for the first time ever. "I love you so much, Leia," he whispered. "I treated you horribly."
"I'm learning that was not Anakin Skywalker doing all those things," Leia whispered in his ear. "It was Vader. Ahsoka's right, I can't compare Anakin to Vader. It's like trying to compare night to day."
"She said that huh?" Anakin questioned as Leia released herself from him. He felt that little hole in his heart begin to fill with love for his children. "I don't think I could ask for a better daughter."
Leia smiled in appreciation as she stood up. "It's my turn to cook."
"Wait a minute," Anakin stopped her with a frown. "I did the cooking in the family. Padme wasn't very good at it," which in turn caused Leia to glare at him. He was in trouble for the comment, he knew that expression.
"How do you know I never learned?" Leia challenged with a serious expression.
"Like Padme you grew up in the palace," Anakin answered with a small grin. "She had people to cook for her. "
"I learned," Leia spoke up with a small smile. "I'm pretty good at it."
"She said the same thing," Anakin teased as he smirked causing Leia to roll her eyes. "You are a lot like your mother."
"I'll prove to you I won't give anyone food poisoning," Leia promised with a smirk as she walked away. Anakin watched her retreat into the kitchen. He was really proud of her and he knew Padme would be too.
