Han lit the candles as a knock sounded at his door. He stepped towards the door and opened it as Leia smiled up at him. He raised a hand and gently traced her cheek leaning down and kissing her on the lips. He pulled back looking into her eyes. "You're beautiful and I love you."
"I love you," Leia returned as she entered into the room. "Candles, wine, what else?"
"Your favorite meal," Han answered as he turned the lights down. "And I know that Anakin is only testing me to make sure I'm not going to take advantage of you."
"You knew what he was doing?" Leia questioned with a small smile. "He's protective."
"As all fathers should be," Han answered with a smile. "It's not the first time a father has grilled me. He's just looking out for you, Leia. We shouldn't let this get cold," he took Leia by the hand and led her to a chair and helped her sit down. He picked up the bottle of wine and poured a glass for Leia then walked to the other side of the table and poured himself a glass.
"Looks great, Han," Leia smiled as she took a sip of wine. "Let's eat."
00000000
After the dinner was done Leia was curled up in Han's arms sitting on a small chair in his room. She was sitting on his lap leaning against his chest with his arms wrapped around her. Han was resting his head on top of hers. She closed her eyes. This was the best place to be, it was peaceful and it felt right to be in his arms. She knew she was meant to be with Han.
"Princess, it's getting late. Maybe you should go and rest," Han whispered in her ear.
"Right," Leia agreed but didn't want to leave his side. She gave contented sigh as Han tightened his grip around her. "I don't want to move."
"I know, me neither," Han agreed. "Until we're married, you have too."
Leia sighed as she stood up as Han released her. "I'll see you in the morning."
"I'll see you in the morning," Han answered with a loving smile as he stood up from the chair. Leia leaned her head up and kissed Han on the lips as he wrapped his arms around her waist bringing her in closer to him. He pulled back running his fingers through her braids. "Maybe one day you can let the braids out?"
"One day," Leia whispered as she walked to the door and opened it. She glanced behind her as Han watched her with longing in his eyes. "Good night, Han."
"Good night, Leia. Sleep well," Han returned as she closed the door and headed towards her cabin. She had a feeling Han was going to propose at some point. He already knew her feelings towards it and has agreed to take it slow.
Anakin opened his eyes as Fress sat down in the chair beside his bed. He raised an eyebrow as she showed him a needle. Not to mention the blaster she held close to his temple. "How did you slip past the medic? A mind trick?"
"I tied him up," Fress answered causing Anakin to frown. "I'm under the impression you need rest."
"From what?" Anakin questioned as he watched her with suspicion. "Fress never normally injects me unless I haven't been following the medics orders and she never shows me the needle until after she injects me. She doesn't own a blaster. Who are you?"
"Vader, I'm surprised you don't recognize me," the girl answered as she watched him pressing the needle up against his skin. "And you're going to do exactly as I say."
"No one calls me Vader here. Mara Jade?" Anakin questioned as it slowly sunk in as something flickered showing red hair. "You're using an ID changer? If I go back to Palpatine, I will kill him for lying to me about my family being dead," he knew the girl was resourceful but how did she end up on Home One. "Where's Fress? What did you do with her?"
"She's safe. I took her photo while she was sleeping. I heard she's with a child, so sedating her wasn't an option," Mara answered as she watched him with anger in her eyes. "You betrayed the Empire and need to be taken back to Palpatine to face your execution."
"How did you get onto Home One?" Anakin questioned with a frown. Now he was just plain curious. Only those on Home One knew how to find it, otherwise they didn't have a need to know.
"Fey'lya brought me on board shortly after he received word you were here," Mara Jade answered causing Anakin to frown. After his first attempt, he thought the fur ball wouldn't stoop so low as to let the Emperor's Hand on board. "Does he know you're the Emperor's Hand?"
"No he doesn't," Mara answered as he felt the needle scrap against his skin. "He thinks I'm a bounty hunter looking to collect the mark on your head."
"Palpatine is using you, Mara. He took you from your family and killed them," Anakin explained with a frown. "He sensed your abilities and is using you to do his dirty work for him."
"Lies, all lies," Mara snapped angrily causing Anakin to watch her as Han silently entered his room. Han raised an eyebrow and mouthed, need help? "He's done nothing but supply my needs. He raised me."
"A nanny raised you," Anakin reminded her easily. "Palpatine told me what I wanted to hear and not what I needed to hear. He's using you just as he used me and it nearly cost me my relationship with my wife. You need help Mara," he said with a neutral expression as Han pressed the muzzle of his blaster against her back.
Mara froze as Han pulled the trigger as a stun bolt enveloped her body causing the ID changer to fizzle out. "Who is she?" Han questioned as he bent down beside her checking her pulse.
"Her name is Mara Jade," Anakin answered easily. "She's the Emperor's Hand and has come to take me back. Thanks Han. Looks like I owe you one now."
"Seems to be the theme with you and your family," Han joked as he placed stun cuffs on her wrists.
"How did you know I was in trouble?" Anakin questioned as Leia and Padme walked in and stopped dead in their tracks.
"The medic wasn't around to stop me from coming in here, then I heard you and her talking," Han answered honestly as he spoke into a comlink. "This is General Solo, we need a security detail in the med ward immediately in General Skywalker's room."
"Han?" Leia questioned as he glanced up at her with a frown. "When did you take a title?"
"Mon Mothma asked me again this morning," Han answered with a small grin. "She really wants me to take on a role. I accepted on one condition. That I don't have to fly a fighter and I get to continue to fly the Falcon, and she agreed."
"You are a born natural leader," Leia agreed with a smile as she kissed him. "I'm happy to see you finally found your place."
Padme watched with a knowing smile as she turned her attention to Anakin. She stepped to the bedside and took his hand into hers. "Looks like our baby girl has found true love. Now I understand what she sees in him."
"Yes she has," Anakin agreed easily. "Someone should go check on the medic," he said with a frown. "Apparently she tied Keiran up somewhere," Mara started coming around as she groaned and looked up. "Where is the medic, Mara?"
"Three rooms down from this one," Mara answered as Han helped her to her feet. Fress and Ahsoka walked in with a security detail following behind them.
"Take her down to the interrogation room. I'll be down there in a few minutes," Fress commanded as a guard walked forward taking Mara from Han. "Anakin, are you all right?"
"I'm fine, thanks," Anakin answered as he watched Fress with concern. "Go easy on her. She's a victim of Palpatine manipulating her from when she was six. She doesn't remember her family. He had them killed and he took her to train as an assassin for him. She's Force sensitive."
Fress kneeled down and picked up a needle full of something. "Someone check on the medic and ask the lab to analyze this," she ordered as she handed the needle over to Ahsoka.
Ahsoka nodded in agreement as she left the room as Fress watched Anakin with a frown. "Are you sure you're all right?"
"I'm fine, why?" Anakin questioned as Padme eyed him with concern as she felt his forehead. He felt as if his body was heating up causing him to frown. "Padme, Yoda told me you could make the arrangements to get the clone. I'm tired of being sick all the time."
"Okay, I'll make the arrangements," Padme agreed as she ran her hand along his cheek. "For now you need to rest. You're burning up."
"Again?" Leia questioned with a frown as Keiran walked into his room. "What is it this time?"
"The test results came back this morning, it's the twenty-four hour stomach flu," Keiran answered honestly. "Anakin, we're going to have to make some arrangements with the nurse to properly care for you."
"I just got over the stomach flu few weeks ago," Padme placed her hand onto Anakin's forehead. "It's my fault. I'm so sorry, Ani."
"It's not your fault," Anakin reassured her with a weary smile. It was going to be a rough twenty-four hours but he's had worse. "It happens so don't worry about it. All right? Besides, I could've picked it up from in here for all I know."
"Unfortunately, the flu bug has been circulating Home One as of late," Keiran explained. "Anakin will make my ninth case this week. It only lasts twenty-four hours. He'll be fine by this time tomorrow."
"Just take care of Mara. She's needs guidance and a way to wake her up from Palpatine's lies," Anakin requested with a frown.
"I will Anakin," Fress agreed as she left the room. Ahsoka and the others slowly filed out of his room except for Padme, Leia, and Han.
"Han, I will be more then happy to call you my son-in-law when the time comes," Anakin said with a smile as Leia smiled in appreciation. "You're a good man and I've heard how you've helped get Leia and Luke out of danger. And you helped me as well. You're proving to be an honorable man."
"Thanks Anakin," Han responded sounding appreciative. "I love your daughter. And I will do anything for her."
"I know you will," Anakin responded as his head started to hurt. The symptoms were starting to set in now. He was not looking forward to this. Padme rested her hand against his forehead gently pressing down. "The headache is starting."
"I'll go and get something to help ease your symptoms," Keiran spoke before he left the room.
"My poor Ani," Padme whispered as she placed her other hand on his cheek. "I'll take care of you."
Anakin closed his eyes as he sensed the others leaving his room except for Padme. Good, he didn't want Leia or Han to get this. He raised a hand and took Padme's hand into his own. "You don't deserve to have a human wreck for a husband. If you decide to divorce me, I won't blame you."
Padme looked stunned as she sat down in the chair. "Ani, it doesn't matter what you look like. I know you're feeling insecure because of what happened and how you look now. That doesn't mean I haven't stopped loving you or forgotten my vows. I love you, Anakin, no matter what."
"Padme, how would you feel if I suggest we renew our wedding vows?" Anakin questioned with a frown. "This time I promise not to let Palpatine get between us again."
"I know you won't," Padme agreed with a smile. "I would love too. Let's renew our vows."
"After we deal with Palpatine," Anakin agreed as he gently traced her jaw. "I'm thankful and relieved you survived. I need you, Padme."
"Just as much as I need you, Anakin," Padme returned as she reached up and took his hand back into hers. "It's an adjustment for both of us. We'll work through this one day at a time."
"You're an amazing person," Anakin said as leaned his head back and closed his eyes. "You deserve to be with someone who will treat you better."
"I'm giving you a second chance to be a better husband," Padme whispered gently. "I had the best sleep I've had in a long time. It's because I felt your warmth and heart beat again, it was comforting."
Anakin opened his eyes and glanced at her with a smile. To be honest it helped him fall to sleep too. Having her in his arms again knowing they still shared that kind of love after all these years. "You are my soul mate."
"And you are mine," Padme said with a loving smile. "You should try and rest. It's going to be a rough night for you."
"Padme, if I may?" Keiran interrupted as Padme let go of Anakin's hand and stood aside as Keiran injected a med into Anakin's I.V. "This should help for a little while, but you are in for a rough night. Since you already had the bug Padme. I will only allow you in here and no one else. There's no point in getting anyone else infected."
"I understand," Padme agreed as she took Anakin's hand into hers again and sat down in the chair. Anakin closed his eyes as he felt the pain in his head ease a bit. He never had the stomach flu before, not even growing up. By how Obi-Wan reacted one year caused him to shiver. The sounds he heard coming from the refresher didn't sound nice at all.
