Chapter 25: Sleeping Beauty Part 1
Toad Town Studios, Toadstool's Awesome Office, 4:01 PM
"So...you're saying we've been played for suckers all this time?" Toadstool stared disbelievingly at the tuxedo-clad Mushroom person in front of her. He had walked into the office 15 minutes ago and had introduced himself as Toadcedo Shellfire, executive producer for MKTV (Mushroom Kingdom Television) Studios. He then explained about their current situation: all their ratings were forged...faked to make it look like the show had reached a spot in the Top 100 list.
"Pretty much," said Toadcedo after a moment.
"Darn. I thought we were pretty popular..." Purple lamented.
"I bet even our popularity is fake," said Darrel in a sad tone.
"That's the only part that hasn't been faked, Mr. Sharman. You guys are pretty popular, according to the recent field surveys," said Toadcedo. Everyone brightened a little upon hearing this.
"But who would try and purposely bring us down like that?" Orange wondered.
"I wish I knew," said Toadcedo with a sigh.
"But that's not the only reason you came, is it?" queried Toadstool.
"Correct, Miss Nine." Toadcedo opened his briefcase. "I sent you a contract two months ago, and I never received a reply. Luckily I have a copy of it with me right here." The TToDS crew gathered around the table to see what Toadcedo had put on the table.
"Hey!" Darrel exclaimed. "This looks kinda familiar."
"Yeah..." Toadstool said. Then it hit her like a brick. "You were the one who sent that contract that none of us could understand!" (A/N: That was all the way back in Chapter 3!)
"Indeed. Before you say anything, I must mention that my sister, Toadrey Shellfire, is a lawyer. This whole contract basically states that if anyone wants to mess with you or your show, they'll have to go through her first."
"Then why didn't she send the contract?" asked Orange. "Or better yet, why didn't she come meet us in person?"
"She was busy with a case at the time and had no way of contacting you," said Toadcedo matter-of-factly. "So she sourced you through me and asked me to send this contract in the mail."
"Um...Mr. Shellfire?" said Purple. "Can we get back to you later? We have a show to do."
Everyone glanced at the clock.
"Oh crap!" exclaimed Toadstool. She, Darrel and Purple dashed out of the office.
"So...about that contract." Toadcedo continued as if nothing had happened.
Orange gulped. She would have to decide on this without the others.
Toad Town Studios, Main Stage, 4:28 PM
"Hello? Are you Toadstool?" A girl skunk was already sitting in the guest chair. "I'm Vileen the skunk."
"A guest? Orange didn't tell me...!" Toadstool began.
"It's not her fault," said Purple. "That Shellfire guy just popped up out of nowhere."
"And...We're live!" Darrel pointed at Toadstool.
Toadstool sat in the host's chair and began the show like normal. "Hello, and welcome to Toadstool89's Truth or Dare Show! I'm Toadstool Eighty Nine, but you can call me Toadstool. I have a special guest today. Please welcome...Vileen the skunk!"
Vileen waved her paw toward the camera. "Hello!"
"Okay, Vileen, pick a truth or a dare, please." Toadstool handed Vileen a tablet.
"Alright..." Vileen looked at the tablet. "We have a question from Lyro the Hedgehog for...Mario!"
"It's-a Mario time!" said Mario.
"Lyro asks...Mario, how did you get fat?"
Bowser and Shy Guy laughed out loud at this question. Mario rolled his eyes.
"I guess Mario's not answering that question," said Toadstool, taking up the tablet. "But he'll have a minus 1000 coin penalty taken from the million if he wins."
"What?"
"Dude, I'm kidding! No one's getting penalized," said Toadstool.
"Oh, okay," said Mario.
"Now for a dare that'll probably take up the rest of this episode," said Toadstool. "We have a dare from spatterson for Peach, Daisy, Mario, Luigi, Knuckles, Blaze, Tails, Sonic, Shadow, Amy, Silver, Toad, Toadette, Rouge, Stella, Flora, and Bloom."
Everyone whose name was called looked up.
"Spatterson dares y'all to do the battle scene from the Sleeping Beauty kids play." Toadstool handed the aforementioned people the script.

Mario as Goon 1

Sonic as Goon 4

Toad, Toadette, Rouge, Knuckles, and Tails as Goons 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11
(And I made Daisy Sleeping Beauty, cuz I felt like it, so she won't make a real appearance in the play. All the other competitors are in the audience.)
"Well, here we go," Purple muttered as he dimmed the lights.
(A/N: I will be referring to the characters as Peach, Luigi, Bloom, etc. and not Maleficent, Phillip, Merryweather, etc. to avoid character confusion.)
A beam of light (aka spotlight) revealed Peach in a Maleficent costume, with all the goons in half battle stances around her. Another spotlight revealed Luigi in a Prince Phillip costume (from the Disney movie, I guess). He was bound in fake yet real looking chains. Peach let an evil smile cross her face (well...as evil as a pink wearing mushroom princess could muster).
"And that, my dear prince, is the curse of sleeping beauty!" Peach cackled. "And since I put my heart into that curse so many years ago, it would be a shame to let you ruin it with true love's kiss, now wouldn't it?"
Luigi strained against his "chains". "Let it go, you evil witch!" he cried. He gave Peach a "sorry but I gotta stay in character" look.
"I knew you'd understand." Peach gave Luigi a "it's ok I understand" look before turning to her goons. "Come goons! Let's leave our prince to his dreams!" She laughed evilly, and she and everyone playing a goon left the stage.
A few moments later, Flora, Stella,and Bloom fluttered onto the stage in Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather costumes, respectively. Flora magically unlocked the "chains". Luigi had a confused look on his face.
"Shh. No time to explain," Flora whispered.
"Arm thyself with this enchanted shield of virtue, and this mighty sword of truth," said Bloom. She handed Luigi a plastic realistic sword and shield. "Now come, we must hurry."
The three fairies and Luigi exited the stage.
Not long after that, Mario, Blaze, and Shadow (Goons 1, 2, and 3) ran onto the stage. They gasped when they saw the chains and no prince.
"Uh oh! Where did he go?" asked Mario.
"I don't know," said Blaze.
"I don't see him," said Shadow.
"Where did he go?" Mario asked again.
Sonic (Goon 4) jumped onto the stage to join the trio.
"Where is he?" asked Sonic, seeing the empty chains.
"We don't know," they (except Sonic) said in unison.
Amy (Goon 6) and Silver (Goon 5) joined the others on stage.
"What's keeping you guys?" asked Amy.
"Yeah. What is keeping you?" asked Silver.
"The prince has escaped. Maybe we should just let him escape," said Shadow.
"No! Maleficent's gonna be mad!" Mario exclaimed.
Toad, Toadette, Rouge, Tails, and Knuckles ran onto the stage.
"Look around!" the five aforementioned goons shouted to the others.
All the goons looked everywhere on the stage, but they couldn't find a trace of Prince Luigi. Behind them, Peach returned onstage. She stood behind her goons and folded her arms. "Ahem."
"Shh!" Shadow whispered.
They all turned and screamed when they saw Peach. They rushed to hide the "chains".
"What's happening" asked Peach.
The goons reluctantly moved out of the way to reveal the pile of "chains" with no prince attached.
"No!" shouted Peach. She snapped her fingers to Sonic, who handed her the "chains".
Meanwhile, Luigi reentered the stage and silently stood behind Peach and her goons in battle position.

I've reached my usual five page limit, and that's why I'm "pausing" the play. The next chapter will continue where this one left off. I guess this could be considered as an intermission of sorts. So technically, the show's not over. But here's the roster, all the same.
