Sorry about the wait everyone, Been trying to get this chapter read through work ours and some family business that was going on. But I do hope everyone enjoys this. Once more so sorry about the wait.
I can't believe it! That's the only thought runs through my mind as I ran through the forest to Berk. That dragon, It must have corrupted her somehow, I just know it! I ran with fear gripping my heart. I had to tell her father, Stoic would be able to handle this. Getting that demon away from her. As I ran, I could hear what almost sounded like wings beating, my fear intensified. Turning to look over my shoulder as I ran I didn't see anything. She wouldn't be foolish enough to actually follow me would she?
Turning back around, I jumped over the log in my path. Just before my feet hit the ground I felt scaly claw grab hold of my arm and lift me higher above the ground. I couldn't help the scream that tore from my throat. Looking down at the trees below I realized how high I actually was and fear gripped my heart. I began to claw at scaly paw that held my arm. "Great Odins' ghost..." I said looking down in fear. Was she going to kill me or was this the dragons doing not hers?
As the scenery passed, I suddenly felt the paw let go of its grip on my arm and I fell onto one of the tree branches. I let out a grunt as the air gets knocked out of me from the sudden drop. He did that on purpose, I know he did! Just then the tree bent causing me to hold onto the limb of the tree even more as the dragon landed. Now that I was in the tree I felt my fear get replaced with another emotion, Anger. "Hiccup," I growled out looking up at the girl as she was seated upon the dragons back. "Get me down from here, now."
She shook her head at me as she extended her hand out to me, her eyes pleading with me. "Not till you give me a chance to explain myself, Ashter." She said to me. I let out an annoyed growl. "I am not listening to anything you have to say!" I yelled at her as I tried moving more inward on the limb that I hung from. "Then I won't speak...just please...Ashter, let me show you." I heard her say her tone switching from urgent to soft. Looking up, I saw the pleading look in her eyes, then I turned my eyes to the dragon who looked like he would rather have me dead. Looking away, I hesitated. I could either try to get down, or have hiccup get me down and explain. Mentally groaning I started to pull myself up onto the limb supporting me.
Balancing carefully I reached over to the saddle and Hiccup only to have that dragon growl at me. Either he didn't want me near him or hiccup. It was most likely both. I saw Hiccup extend her hand to me and i just pushed it away, I didn't need her help.
Climbing onto the saddle I tried to steady myself without touching Hiccup. Which wasn't easy as all I wanted to do was wrap my arms around her and taker her away from this beast. "Alright...get me down from here." I said looking at Hiccup as I tried to keep my balance. Hiccup smiled a bit before looking at the dragon. "Toothless down...gently." She said gently patting that side of the dragons head. I had to roll my eyes at that.
As the dragon spread his wings, Hiccup looked back at me with a small smile. "See, nothing to be worried about." But just as she said that I heard the dragon give a small rumble. Next thing I knew we were flying straight up with me holding onto the saddle for dear life. Was this dragon trying to kill us!? Wait scratch that, he was trying to kill me!
"Toothless!" I heard Hiccup scream over the roaring wind, "What is wrong with you?" She yelled as I moved forward and grabbed onto her. As we seemed to level out in the air I held onto her as she turned back to me. "Uh..heehee..he's not usually like this." She tried to explain to me. At the same time we started to tilt leaning to the right making her look, "oh no..." That's all I heard before we started to careen straight down. I was now sure this dragon was trying to kill me.
I screamed as I watched the ocean come closer and closer till suddenly we were submerged. I sputtered a bit as we shot out of the water, but the dragon kept close enough to the ocean. As we flew the dragon kept bouncing on the water, causing me to hold onto Hiccup more. "What are you doing, Toothless? We need him to like us!" I heard Hiccup say urgently as the dragon once more splashed us into water before shooting up again. By now I will admit I was terrified. How could Hiccup be near such a dangerous creature!?
When were as high as the dragon wanted to be he started to spin his body and I felt Hiccup slump in my arms. "And of course the spinning..." Hiccup said unaffected as we spun, "Thank you for nothing, you useless reptile." I heard her say as she stayed relaxed. As we spun the dragon turned in the air and started to descend straight down spinning as he did so. Closing my eyes I held onto Hiccup for dear life as my head rested on her shoulder. "Okay...Okay, I'm sorry...I mean it, I'm sorry...just get me off this thing." I said to her, I was scared...and I just wanted this to stop.
When I thought the dragon would take us into the ocean again, he suddenly spread his wings and we stopped making me yelp. Hearing a click sound I looked down to see the peddles as Hiccup moved her feet as we gently glided back up, safely this time.
I couldn't help it I was afraid as I rested my head on her shoulder, me, Ashter. Yet here I was the best Viking in our class, afraid clinging to Hiccup like she was my life line. I felt Hiccup turn a bit to look at me, by now I must seem pathetic to her. Feeling her turn again I also felt us start to go higher in the sky and held on a bit tighter. So far my experience with this hasn't been pleasant and I was hesitant to open my eyes, but slowly I did...and what I saw was amazing.
Slowly I moved a bit away from Hiccup as I looked at the clouds surrounding us. It was...breath taking. As I looked around at the clouds I vaguely wondered if this is what Hiccup saw every day with the dragon. To be honest I was a bit jealous. Looking back at Hiccup I realized I should have listened to her, but I guess this is just as good.
Feeling the dragon move a bit higher I looked up at the cloud right above me. Hesitantly I reached up and touched the cloud. It was misty almost like wet smoke, it was pretty cool. Slowly I let my body relax as my other hand let go of Hiccup as I played with the cloud. This was amazing I don't think anyone has ever gotten to experience this. "So...ready to listen to me now?" Hiccup asked as she glanced back at me. Looking at her I had to admit I was curious about how this came to be. "Okay...start from the beginning." I told her as we continued to fly above the sea. Looking at Hiccup I watched as she took a deep breath before sighing. "Remember how I told you...I shot down a Night Fury?" She said glancing back at me. I could only raise an eye brow at her and nod. "Well take that and then look at the dragon were ridding." she said and I did looking at the dragon the saddle then her. "This is a Night Fury...we are riding a Night Fury!" I yelled, the dragon training was shocking enough but to learn that she had actually taken down a Night Fury that night! She had been right and we all thought she was insane.
"Yeah well...when none of you believed me I went to look for him on my own" she said as we continued to glide in the air. The sun was just beginning to set. "It took me while but I eventually found where he crashed, he was still tied up in the bolas. As I walked over to him I couldn't believe I had actually done it...but when I got closer...and really looked at him, he just laid there. He wasn't going to struggle He wasn't going to fight back." She explained her voice starting to get a bit quiet here. I had to lean closer to hear her. "I prepared to do it...kill him and bring him back to the village as proof, But when he looked at me...he was just as scared as I was. Just as I was about to plunge the knife into him he gave this...sound. It was a defeated sound and I couldn't...I couldn't kill him. So I let him go." she explained
"You had the Night Fury and you let him go." I stated looking at her in shock. She only nodded her head softly. She could have finally got some credit back home if she killed him and she just let him go. Sighing I thought about this before looking at her once more. As much as that would be true, even I know we still wouldn't have believed her. "Okay, what happened that next." I said calmly watching her. Hiccup tensed at the question and I raised a brow at her. "Hiccup?" Looking back at me she gave a sheepish look. "Well, in short...he attacked me."
"HE WHAT!" I shouted at her making her cover her ears and for the beast below us to growl darkly at me. "What do you mean he attacked you!?" I yelled at her but not as loud as before. Hiccup sighed and turned a bit to look at me. "He just...pinned me to a rock and roared at me. Loud I might add!" She said looking down at the beasts head. As she said that though I felt a rumble under us and I realized, the dragon was laughing! He was laughing at her! Hiccup play glared at the dragon. "Useless reptile, see what happens when we get back to the cove." She threatened and I swear to the heavens that the dragon gave her a grin.
"So," I said deciding to interrupt this little play fight, "What happened after he tried to make you deaf."
Hiccup turned to look at me with a slightly annoyed look. "Well, nothing. He roared and ran off, or tried to fly off." She said thinking back looking at the dragon. "Kind of flew off?" I asked raising a brow at her in question. She shrugged not looking at me and sighed, "I didn't know why at the time why...but I figured it out." she said taking a deep breath and letting out a shaky sigh.
"Hiccup?" I spoke softly she looked truly upset. "Hey...hey, what's wrong?"
"I hurt him. I had crippled him..."
Now I was confused, moving carefully she pointed to behind us and I turned to look. That's when I noticed it, half his tail was Viking made. "His tail...when I shot him down part of his tail fin had been torn off. It wasn't till that night Gobber told us that if they lose their wings or tails they can't fly!" She yelled startling me and the dragon. "So...you replaced his tail?" I asked carefully moving to place one hand on her shoulder. Hiccup nodded her head and over the wind I heard her sniffling. She was crying, she truly felt guilt for what she had done. "I had spent almost all night making him that tail in the forge. I even brought him some fish so he wouldn't know when I put it on." She said wiping her eyes with her free hand. Feeling a rumble beneath us I looked up at the dragon to see he was glancing back. He was trying to comfort her. Reaching out, she softly pet the dragons head with a soft smile.
"How did you even get close to him in the first place?" I asked trying to figure that part out, also to try and pull her attention away from 'Toothless'. This seemed to be a good memory as she bang to smile again. "You know the day the Gronkle nearly blew my head off?" She asked looking back at me raising her eyebrow. How in Thor's name could I Not know!
"You mean the day Gobber told you dragons won't hesitate to kill you." I said to her with narrowed eyes. Hiccup rolled her eyes as she looked at the dragon we were riding. "I went back to where I had cut him loose...and I questioned, why didn't he kill me." She said, the Dragon seemed grumble something causing Hiccup to look down at him. "I know that know buddy, so don't have to try and explain." She said.
By now I'm getting even more confused as I moved one hand to my face. "You understand him? How?" I asked trying not to think she was completely nuts and just have her turn back now. She looked back me with a raised brow like I was the insane one, "I don't understand him...well like this, but I can take a guess at what he's saying." She said to me. I was going to let that slide but something she said just didn't sit well with me. "What do you mean 'this' way." I asked my eyes narrowing as I looked at the girl before me. I could see her tense again. She looked like she was contemplating on telling me something. Moving to lean over her, I could see her biting her lip. I had to push my mind to not focus on how cute she was when she did that. I heard the dragon grumble and I looked at him he seemed to be looking back at us. Hiccup looked at him with unsure eyes.
" Toothless? Are you sure about this." She asked him, I know she said she couldn't understand him. Though right now I doubt that.
'Toothless' just grumbled and nodded his head facing forward again as we flew, by now the sun was almost fully set and the sky was Bright reds and orange. Nodding her head Hiccup turned to me a bit to answer my question. "Toothless...you see, he can become human. Or human like." She said looking up at me.
If I didn't think she was nuts before I was sure of myself now. I was going to call her out on it but then...what I saw the other night would make sense. Tensing I looked at her with wide eyes as I released she was with the dragon. "You're in love with the dragon?" I asked but it was more of a statement then a question. This time I felt her tense as I held her, "I'm right aren't I."
Hiccup looked at me now, her forest green eyes wide with fear. Fear of what I was going to do or say. "H-How did you know...I mean...I just told you he was able to turn human." She said calmly, I could hear the fear and panic there even if she tried to hide it. Sighing I guess it was time to come clean myself. "Because I saw you, the both of you." I told, It hurt me still to think of her with another man, but the sting grew worse as I released I had lost her to a dragon. "Y-you saw u-us? H-how, when!" she yelled this time still in panicked fear. The dragon grumbled something with a slight purr, he seemed to be trying to calm her. For once I had to agree with him. She was the one to helping him fly. If she freaked out now, all three of us would be meeting Hel in her domain much sooner then we wished. "Hiccup, you need to calm down and I'll explain, but only once you're calm. You have to help Toothless fly." I told her calmly.
This seemed to snap her out of it and she looked ahead taking deep breaths. Once I knew she was calm once more I waited for her to speak. Sighing deeply she glanced back at me. "So tell me...when did you see us...how?" She asked me softly I could tell she was still afraid but was keeping her calm. Sighing I moved some of her Amburn bangs out of her face and behind her ear. This earned me a growl from Toothless but I ignored him.
"I saw you both after I left the celebration last night. I was thinking about...how I just wanted you to be a better Viking, and when It started to happen. I thought about how quickly it angered me to see you best me. I started to think how I shouldn't be thinking that, but how I should be proud of you, proud that the woman I was to call my wife was able to handle herself with dragons." I said looking at her gently. Though when I spoke the word wife she flinched, which hurt and saddened me, but I continued. "Then I saw you take off into the forest around our village, and I followed you." I explained as she glanced ahead again as we changed directions away from berks area. "Go on." she said, she was still nervous.
"I followed you in but I soon lost you in the tress and foliage, I was getting frustrated about to give up when I heard you call a name. Curiosity getting the better of me I followed where I heard you call from and found myself on a cliff looking over a grotto area an-"
"Cove."
"What?" I asked raising an eyebrow at her, was she really interrupting to correct me? "It's not a grotto, it's a cove." she said looking back at me as we flew as she pouted. I just blinked at her with a slightly astonished look upon my face. "You done correcting me?" I asked her giving her a dull look. she gave me a sheepish smile and nodded. "Yes, yes, continue." She said making me sigh. "As I was saying, I looked over the cliff into the 'Cove', and I saw you and ...I guess the dragon here, kissing." I told her seeing her flush bright red, and even if i was jealous I smirked. "Whats this are, you blushing?" I asked teasing her making her blush more. "N-no...shut up, Ashter." she said turning away from me blushing making me laugh. "So..tell me more about this, about flying on dragons." I said making her look at me and smile. I think...maybe...I could be more open to her. Maybe this will fix what I've done to her, just...maybe.
