The bottle had been empty for quite sometime, but there was no urge to fill it. The two hardened Alliance marines were enjoying the company of each other. Kaidan Alenko couldn't help, but stare at the woman he loved who could hold her alcohol remarkably well. Shepard apparently noticed him staring at her half full glass of whiskey.

"Best thing about being a upgraded reincarnated biotic." She started lifting the glass to her lips. "You sure can hold your liquor." She placed the glass on the table eyeing the Major's furled brow.

"What's wrong?" She asked delicately stroking his muscled arm.

"Just thinking." Kaidan smiled

"About what?" She forced herself closer to him, nuzzling into his chest like a child.

"You."

Kaidan looked down at the captivating woman who lay in his arms. Her long auburn hair strewn across her face, and her odd colored eyes with their green and amber sheen to them, showing her patented she looked patented "Really?" sarcastic face.

"What brought that on?" She asked.

"Your beauty."

"Ha." She scoffed

She raised herself on her elbows taking another drink of her expensive glass of Peruvian Whiskey.

"No really." He remarked

"You're drunk."

"Maybe." He leaned closer to her. "But I still love you and no amount of liquor in the world will change that. Trust me I've tried."

He paused for a moment as if to see if he should continue or if he should stop before he tells her too much… too late he thought as she turned around a look of inquisition bedecking her soft rounded features.

"That's what I did when I thought I lost you the first time. I drank myself into nothingness, the only reason the Alliance kept me around was because of Hackett and Anderson. Horizon was my trial mission to see if I'd gone completely of the deep end… which I had."

"Kaidan, I'm so—"

"You don't have to be sorry. You're here and that's all I wanted. I'm fine really." He looked at Shepard. Her face had contorted into one of worry.

"Hey stop worrying." He said again speaking words to console her. "The one who should be worried is me. The woman I love is charging into a death squad of centuries old… well death machines." He smiled momentarily. "How are you, Shepard?"

"I'm fine…great…dandy." She looked at him forcing a reassuring smile on her face, but it was a little too forced.

"Uhh huh."

"What?"

"Are you going to tell me?" He asked as he stroked her hair.

"No…but I will tell you the Reapers are going down tomorrow no matter what." She flashed the biggest grin Kaidan had every seen her give.

"Then me and you are going to have a conversation about you deflecting questions, serious questions with your wittiness."

"I'll hold you to that, Kaidan." She raised her glass. "Here's to us."

There glasses let a harmonious sound of unity emerge from between them just as they took once last gulp of the rancid drink, with the drink gone there was only one last thing to do before assaulting The Illusive Man's base and that is one thing that the two of them had wanted for so long.

A/N: Sorry about my Hiatus on my other stories. This is an Author's Note to those who read my other stories or well anyone. I've had issues with friends, guys, school, soccer, family, and love. Pretty much life in general so this is me trying to get back in the swing of things.

P.S all credits to this Idea go to the song "Here's to us" by Halestorm fits Kaidan and Shepard perfectly in my opinion.

BEWARE has swearing, but I despise the usage of those words. Only time I do it is in stories.
