After a while of living with The Doctor and the TARDIS, AL had learned how to read. The Doctor entered his library to find AL in the middle of massive piles of books.
"Hey kid, which one are you on?" The Doctor asked with a smirk.
*Something called 'The Shawshank Redemption', it reminds me an awful lot like the Stasis Chairs.* AL read some more and frowned. *There are other life forms that do this to one another?* She questioned about being locked up in one place.
The Doctor sighed and sat across from her.
"AL, the place in the book, it's where 'bad' people go. If they do something wrong they are put there."
AL looked up at him with wide eyes.
*Was 'I' bad? Is that why I and the others were there?*
The Doctor's eyes darkened in anger and shook his head.
"No, what happened to you and the other 245 children did NOT happen because you were bad. So do feel up to an adventure today?" The Doctor suddenly switched moods and grinned at her.
*If it is more 'food' I would rather not. While it tastes good, too much leads to an uncomfortable ending.*
"Not THAT kind of adventure!" The Doctor rolled his eyes. "A real one!"
*Where, or 'When' are we going?* AL asked following The Doctor into the main control room. *Good Day Cycle TARDIS.* AL greeted the coils.
(Greetings little cub, but other creatures say Morning and not Day Cycle.)
*Right 'morning' everything is so much different then the place I had been.*
"RIGHT THEN!" The Doctor shouted happily. "Here we are! Let's put in the information, August 27th 1883. Have you read about volcanoes AL?"
*Yes, they are completely devastating to a planet. It said that they also make the ground fertile for harvest.* AL thought about it and smirked. *So it destroys and creates at the same time!*
"Huh…never thought about it like that." The Doctor blinked in surprise and grinned again. "Well guess where we are!"
*August 27th 1883?* AL asked confusedly and The Doctor sighed.
"Yes, but…if we were just talking about volcanoes…"
*We are going to witness an eruption?*
"Yep. One of the most destructive ones that the planet Earth had ever seen!"
*That is the Terran Planet within the Milky Galaxy correct? I had never heard of it before we met.*
"Kid, stick with me long enough: You see things that you never thought 'could' exist!"
(My little cub seems excited, however her mode of fashion may alarm some of the natives.)
"Oh, hadn't thought of that!" The Doctor frowned looking at the girl.
*What is wrong with my fashion?* AL pouted and The Doctor snorted in laughter.
"Well for one, the eyes. I mean red eyes with black lining around the iris: They'd probably sacrifice you thinking you're a demon." The Doctor frowned again. "Then there's the talking with no lip moving, not to mention your hair."
*What's wrong with my hair?!* She looked freaked out now.
"Females don't normal go with short hair in any time period. Certainly not black with blue streaks in it. Or the red tips on the ends. They're liable to think somebody bred with a weird looking bird." AL glared at him as he laughed when he said that.
(I have something that could help.) The TARDIS stated simply. A panel in the wall opened up and AL looked into the room.
*What is this room?*
"That would be the Wardrobe, good thinking old girl. We can find something in here that AL can wear!"
AL looked around the large room and grinned grabbing something that caught her eyes.
*I like these.*
(Tinted Steam-punk goggles, it would help with hiding the colors. Maybe my Thief can fashion a perception filter for your hair.)
AL came out of the wardrobe and The Doctor's eyes widened.
"Like the goggles kid. Let's get you fitted for your hair filter." He snorted at his own joke.
(If I had eyes, I would be rolling them right now.)
"Oh quiet you." The Doctor shushed the TARDIS and AL let out a strange sound, it sounded like it could be a laugh. "Bigger problem is the talking mentally out loud." The Doctor thought about what he just said and sighed. "Yeah that didn't sound weird at all." He muttered sarcastically. "You can't run around Earth speaking like you do, they'd be liable…"
*To kill me?*
"Or run away screaming in terror." The Doctor finished and AL pouted again. "You can use some of the human sign language we were working on."
After they witnessed the volcano going up in flames so to speak they were back in the TARDIS.
"So you did pretty well on your first outing." The Doctor grinned at his younger friend. "So where to next, you pick!"
AL closed her eyes and held a history book and pointed to an entry and opened her eyes.
*November 22nd, 1963?*
The Doctor laughed this time.
"You my friend, have good taste in history!"
The two found themselves watching a parade in an American state called Texas. AL kept asking questions about what was so special about this.
"You are going to see the American President get killed."
SL*And you are here to stop it?*SL
"Nope…" The Doctor saw the questioning look on her face and sighed. "Sometimes in history, you can't change things. They are called 'fixed points', if somebody is due to die at a certain time, they 'need' to die. If something happens to prevent the fixed point: time could fold over on itself and cause a catastrophic explosion and destroy everything."
SL*So you cannot stop things?*SL AL asked while signing the question.
"Whether I want to help or not, doesn't matter. Running around through time and space is not completely fun: certain rules have to be upheld."
AL nodded understanding that The Doctor wanted to change things, but because the fate of time and space he was prevented from helping.
They were back in the TARDIS and AL was saddened by what she had seen.
*They just kill each other over nothing…* She mentioned to the ship.
(It's a sad thing, but every race has killing. Not even Time Lord's were above it.)
*He's the last one isn't he? That's why he looks uneasy talking about himself.*
(Yes, I am also that last TARDIS.)
*That's okay…I'm the first AND last of whatever I am also.*
(You are unique little cub. A species that never should've existed. Despite the odds, you still live.)
The third adventure had AL confused when they came back in.
*If it is against the rules to change what happens: How did you change the fact that they didn't go on the Titanic?*
"Certain instances happen, when an alien force tries to alter time themselves." The Doctor saw he was losing her with his tech talk and he sighed. "They were never supposed to have those tickets. You know how 'you' have that nifty little 'feedback loop'?" He saw her nod and he nodded back. "I have something that lets me see everybody's time lines. They weren't meant to ever be on that boat."
*So how did they get the tickets?* AL asked worriedly and The Doctor's face set into a dark scowl.
"THAT is what I intend to find out!" He vowed angrily.
