Chapter 6

Godric brought me up the stairs leading to the grand entrance and I could see a lady greeting everyone from the steps. She was dressed in an all white suit and her shoulder length auburn coloured hair was done to designer perfection. She was as pale as the ivory behind her and her blue eyes shone as bright as the jewel necklace that she had on her white collarbone. I couldn't help but give an inward gasp. She was quite a sight to behold.

Her smile widened when she noticed Godric yet I could feel him stiffen slightly. I ignored that and focused on the young lady before me instead.

The young lady appeared before us and gave Godric a slight hug. They looked as though they've known each other for years, if not centuries. I really wouldn't want to push the limits on them knowing each other for a thousand years but I knew that could happen since Godric was what – ancient?

"Godric, you're here…. And you've brought a human pet! How lovely, I see you've finally succumb to Eric's vices," the young lady said, her eyes turned crescents when she smiled and eyed me, I didn't miss the slight disdain that drifted swiftly within her hazy grey eyes. Godric shook his head, "Poppy is not my pet, I intend to make her more than that, Elisbeth."

I was too ruffled by the term 'human pet' that it took me a second to hear what Godric had said. What did Godric mean by 'more than that'? Did I miss something from our agreement? I looked from Elisbeth to Godric. Elisbeth was eyeing me as though I was a newly discovered gem and Godric was holding onto my shoulder in a protective grasp. He inched closer and planted a soft peck on my left cheeks. I froze and he patted my shoulder twice, "Poppy means quite a lot to me."

I was only hoping the pat on my shoulder would make me feel better, and perhaps wake me up from this nightmare. But, nope, no such luck. I could do absolutely nothing about the situation. Besides, Godric was holding onto me so firmly, I didn't even dare to breathe.

"So you're changing her?"

At least Godric had the decency to shake his head and he said, "We're taking it a step at a time," I was cheered by that decision, however his next line immediately crashed any good cheer, "but yes, I have plans for that in the near future."

Elisebeth shook her head slightly, she really did seem delighted, "Who knew that you would find someone after all, I thought after… Layla., you would no longer have anyone seeing as how….Nevermind. Looks like I am wrong in this, but hey, a queen can't always be right, yes? Come. You should bring Poppy in soon, I am sure Eric would be delighted to see you've arrive."

Godric nodded and moved into the inner hall, he was practically dragging me into the hall like a raggedy-ann doll while I tried my utmost best to remain calm about the situation.

There were times where I thought that my life was almost hopeless, devoid of any hope, seeing as how my past wasn't exactly a bed of roses either. However, being stuck in a hall full of Vampires with the most lethal vampire beside you claiming to be your lover has got to take the cake and I had to resist the urge to run to the nearest road, just to test my sheer ill luck. At the rate I'm going, even a stray bicycle could probably do me in.

"Poppy, are you listening to me?" Godric asked as he placed his hands beneath my chin and tilted my head slightly towards him. I narrowed my eyes and uttered, "I would have been listening to you, if it wasn't for the fact that I am still recovering from the fact that we are supposedly lovers, which you know, is really quite far stretched even for me."

Godric smiled, but he didn't release his hands from my chin, instead, he was soon caressing my cheeks. He leaned in and said, "Elisbeth isn't someone you can let your guard down, ever. Remember that. She's the Queen and she doesn't believe that you're my pet or that you're anything special to me. Not one bit. I'll have to take this further, or we'll both be dead."

I held his cool hands and leaned closer towards him. Even in the crowd, I could feel a few gazes turned in our direction with open interest, "What does that mean?"

Godric took my hand and played with it before placing his hands around my waist. "It means, that I'll have to play the ever popular love sick role to make her believe that you're essentially, the most important thing in my life right now."

"And how should we go about doing that?"

"I have my plans," Godric uttered slowly with a very slight smile as he took a glass of the red stuff and finished it in one suave gulp.

I raised my brow as we followed the crowd to the hall. There was a stage in front and one of their representatives had already begun the Annual Meeting's agenda with the huge screen ahead. Godric's seat was right in front and he placed me beside him. Eric and a rather stern but pretty looking lady got up the moment they saw Godric to greet him. I could sense Eric's sheer disdain for my existence from a mile away and I took a step back at the intensity of his disdain but Godric held onto me and he shook his head slightly at Eric who backed away obediently.

The meeting was surprisingly all about statistics and an update about their political ties with the different state areas and how they were faring as a whole. It felt hugely like a business organisation and I was hugely surprised when Eric went up to present some key factors for the area that he was governing.

"I suppose You'll have to prepare for your act soon," Godric turned to me and said.

As if on cue, Chanel appeared beside me and ushered me to the back of the stage. Godric insisted on following for appearance's sake. There was a lounge room and she helped me fixed my appearance while Godric lounged on the sofa, he was tossing an apple into the air, it hit the ceiling and bounced back into the palm of his hands each time. I was simply amazed that he didn't leave any cracks on the ceiling given their kind's sheer brute strength. My attention was soon drawn back to Chanel's when she placed the finishing touch on my hair and makeup.

"And… we're done," Chanel said, glancing at Godric who appeared deep in thoughts.

"Ah, one more thing, kindly help me remove these." I pointed to my dress and at least Godric had the decency to look somewhat surprised.

I was somewhat amazed that I could actually do that - surprise Godric that is, "Not the dress," I corrected and pointed to my sleeves, "Just the sleeves and the hems, they're distracting and it limits my movements."

Godric quickly grasp what I originally meant and he nodded with a boyish smile, "With pleasure," Godric said and he was already doing what he was told to do, effortlessly.

Tearing off my white dress - that is.
