Chapter 9

What happened then? After I had blacked out, I couldn't remember how I had gotten from the edge of death to Godric's place.

I narrowed my eyes thoughtfully, not observing any movements around. I was deeply shaken when a voice spoke abruptly behind me.

"Ah, you're finally done," Godric said casually, almost as though appearing in my room and lying on my bed was the most normal thing any vampire would do.

I jumped and quickly took a step back, "A knock would have been great."

"But I guess general human rules do not apply to you, or I reckon it probably would be too lowly for you to partake in them, Godric?" I couldn't help but let out a bit of sarcasm in my tone.

"Why bother saving me when you're merely pushing me to death's door with your plans?"

"You're right, I've almost forgotten about the basic etiquettes, I must apologise and re-do this." He said and got out and knocked on the door twice. I sighed deeply and walked laboriously to open the door for Godric who walked in with a boyish smile, "As to your second question, you forget Poppy. I am mostly curious of your origins. And I happen to like you quite a bit, Poppy."

I folded my arms, "There isn't anyone else, Godric." I glanced to my left and then to my right, "It's just you and me. Quit the act."

Godric's expression changed and he smiled lightly, "Not bad, Poppy, the lovesick role can be pretty tiresome, doesn't it?"

I sat on the edge of the bed and nodded my head, "It is. But since I'm back here by some miraculous way, I'll play my part well, Godric."

"Very good, Poppy," Godric said, leaning against the vanity table. He glanced to the side of the window, I noticed that from where we stood, I could see the lake and the moon was shining down upon it. The entire scene was rather tranquil, yet all I sensed was that familiar sense of foreboding danger.

I sighed, "Do you have anything else you need, Godric? Otherwise I would really need some rest."

"What are you exactly?" Godric asked once more, abruptly.

I closed my eyes and repeated for the umpteen time, "Human."

Godric was standing right before me, "You don't recall what happened last night?"

"I only recalled jumping out of the car and I was verge of losing my conscious when someone called my name? Other than that, nothing." I said and Godric examined my face for a good ten seconds. I held my breath and remained absolutely still. The air felt as though it was buzzing with some sort of energy and I broke the silence first, "What happened exactly?"

"You bit me," Godric began and my mouth gaped open, "And you got really strong, stronger than three of us combined. Eric nearly lost an arm trying to subdue you. And I…fell unconscious."

Realising my mouth was opened, I closed it and pursed my lips with my eyes narrowed, "But how could I bite you when I was already on the verge of death."

"I gave you some of my blood to save you," Godric said simply and I nearly choked on my saliva and he continued, ignoring my reactions, "While some may turn delirious, or perhaps addicted to the euphoria state our blood may present. Your reaction is really the first that I've seen in two thousand years, and that fact that you could make me unconscious proves a little unsettling."

"I highly doubt that I'll be in any state to bite your kind once more, so you have absolutely nothing to worry about."

"I wonder if there are others out there?" He uttered, as though he had found something particularly fascinating.

"Not that I know of, nor are they on my speed dial," I said with a friendly smile, backing away as Godric cornered me and said, "One of them did show up."

"What?" I looked at Godric with a raise of a brow, not comprehending what he meant.

"One of your kind showed up, shot Eric with this and Eric has been unconscious since," Godric said and showed me an arrow with some symbols on it.

I looked at the arrow, not registering any of this, "It could be the fellowship?"

Godric gave a mirthless smile, "They're not that capable, it's something else."

"What made you think it's my kind? And what made you think I have anything to do with this?"

Godric gave a wider smile and I shuddered involuntarily as he leaned in closer, "Because the person who shot this acted rather impulsively after I did this."

And as light as snow falling onto the ground, Godric leaned in and planted his lips on mine lightly just as the door opened. I backed away and I glanced and saw a girl. An incredibly beautiful girl stepped in.
