Note: Wrote this about 2 years back, and from then till now. So much has changed, but I'll my best to finish something that I've started! At least it seems like a personal memento – heh.

Once again, I take no credits for True Blood's characters.

I was seated beside Godric who had the coldest expression that I have ever seen, it was practically carved out from ice. He was flipping the pages slowly and his brows were furrowed.

The elders and the leaders were seated alongside with him. Layla was sitted there too at the opposite end. Her eyes darted towards him frequently, stealing not so subtle glances in his direction. I hadn't the faintest idea why he had decided to place me beside him in such an awkward position.

But I figured Godric probably had his ways.

Someone was speaking, an elder – he certainly looked the part. I was surprised that their kind had someone inching on 60s and he was commenting about the lack of trusted aides around Godric and I arched a brow. That's somewhat rich coming from him – considering that I highly doubted he had Godric's back.

At the rate they were backstabbing each other, I was truly surprised that any friendships could even be forged.

"Marcos, I appreciate your comments…But I highly doubt that anyone of us in this room are truly 'brothers', aren't we?" Godric addressed everyone with a slight arch of his lips. His smile dropped, "We're only here for one reason. And that's to dethrone Elisabeth, get her army and spilt it amongst us while we govern the districts."

Everyone, including Marcos had a certain savage air in their eyes as they nodded their heads and smiled, "You're right, Godric. And how should we proceed?"

Godric glanced at the papers, "Elisbeth yields this much power because the Lovensen's family supports her and in return, Elisbeth swore to protect them generations after generations. If we could disrupt their little bond over there, I'm sure it'll be pretty exciting to see how much of a love relationship they have there."

"It does sound doable, The Lovensen's family will be hosting their annual gala dinner and there will be many important figures. If anything happens to the Lovensens, Elisbeth's infallible bond will be broken."

Godric nodded, "Fragmented, at least. Very well, we'll carry that out then."

I was left dumbfounded towards the end of the discussion. It was only when Godric waved his hands in front of me that I blinked. The Lovensens that they're talking about aren't the Lovensens that I know I hope.

"You're not intending to attack the Royals I hope?" I said as Godric leaned into his seat and he smiled with a nod.

"Oh gawd. What have I gotten myself too? You really are thinking of attacking them? But that will mean war."

Godric once again nodded his head with a smile and a nod, while my insides were swirling with a sense of dread, "Please tell me you've gone incredibly, off the records insane!"

Godric pulled himself up and he was in front of me in a jiffy. He leaned towards me and said, "I'm not off the records insane. Although I'm a tad upset that you've thought so lightly of me, Poppy. Now, what would you like to have for dinner? I could watch you eat."

I sighed, placing a hand on the side of my temples. My veins were clearly throbbing and Godric was already at the door, "Any cuisine preference? Italian? French? Japanese?"

I sighed loud enough for Godric to not miss it (it was hard to miss it anyway – with his supernatural hearing), "How about some microwavable food."

Godric looked rather appalled, "But those seem excessivey horrible, and don't they speed up your dying process?"

I smiled and was already at the door with Godric, "Believe me when I say I really don't mind that speeding up right about now."

I truly didn't want to be a part of the upcoming entourage responsible for the deaths of the royal family!

The Annual Gala dinner drew closer and faster than I expected. The weight of the matter stood on my shoulders excessively. Silly Poppy, it's not as though I could stop any of them from doing whatsoever they wanted.

What could a mere human do?

I was quite sure, nothing much. It was practically me pushing against a boulder – one that wouldn't budge too.

I was a caged 'pet', a pet that woke up on a daily basis to the whims of the owner. My life dangled dangerously in front of me, and the one controlling the strings was the puppeteer sitting by the white couch now watching TV.

He was sipping his drink in a leisured pace and he appeared deep in thoughts.

"If you're here to tell me not to pursue with the plans, I can assure you that it's futile," Godric said even before I could utter anything.

The Annual Gala was going to take place tomorrow. In less than 24 hours, an entire family will likely be wiped out in cold-blooded murder.

I steadied my breath and sat on the couch opposite Godric. Trying my best to calm my nerves, I sighed and Godric offered me the drink that he had been sipping. I glanced at the drink and took a sip, "Coke?"

He looked bemused, "What were you expecting?"

"I don't know? Poison of some sorts." Since they had infallible bodies after all.

"I've always wondered how this tasted like. Humans drink it with a sense of absurd satisfaction especially on a hot blustery summer afternoon. I've always wondered."

"It's somewhat sweet, depending on the variety you've chosen. It has this slight fizzy feel, one that starts from the moment it touches your mouth and it travels with you, this fizzy feel all the way down, I can't really describe it. But yea, absurd satisfaction does work." I said and nodded my head.

Godric leaned his head back against the pristine white couch and closed his eyes for a bit. It was just the two of us by the wide, spacious living room. Silence

It was as silent as the dead, only the slight cackling of wood could be heard as the fireplace burned slowly and quietly, I was slightly amused at the subtle human touch.

As though reading my thoughts, Godric answered, "Humanity is something that's easy to forget especially when you no longer feel much, no longer feel the warmth that the fire brings or the dip in temperatures, no longer taste the subtle differences between any flavors. It's pretty easy to forget what it means to be a human, and how very fragile a human life is…."

"Since you know all that… can't you not kill them? It's murder. That's murder that you guys are planning to do tomorrow."

Godric opened his eyes and narrowed his eyes dangerously, "I could also kill you, you know that right?" His gaze hardened. I froze and my heart was still thumping anxiously against my chest. He shook his head, breaking the gaze, "Go to sleep Poppy. You've got a long night tomorrow, and remember what you're supposed to do." He patted my head lightly before disappearing quietly, as he always did.
