Chapter 12
(It is 8pm and Patrick and Sabrina are officially off the clock. He asked her what vehicle she drove to work in, but she said she walked as it was a nice day out and it wasn't far from where she lived. The doctor then took the opportunity to insist they drive together to Kelly's. She graciously accepted. Once at the small restaurant, Patrick took Sabrina's coat and hung it on the coat hanger by the front door. He helped her into her chair before resting in his)
(It was obvious they were both a little nervous about what this little get together entailed. Patrick knew how he felt towards the nurse, yet he didn't completely know how she felt. He had a feeling she felt the same way, however, he didn't want to make any assumptions. He admitted to himself he was hoping she returned those feelings. He has never felt this way towards another woman since Robin. Yes, thinking about Robin sometimes saddened him. The memories mostly brought good thoughts and he was thankful for that. He knew in his heart Robin would want him to be happy. He was finally able to admit that Sabrina Santiago made him happy. She was a breath of fresh air. It was obvious Emma adored the nurse, too. The young doctor was relieved on that as some kids take longer to heal than others when it came to losing a parent)
(Emma was sad now and then that her mother wasn't still alive. However, Patrick always made sure to keep pictures of Robin around the house as well as talking about her often. As time went on, the hurt slowly went away and the father and daughter could live their lives again. They both knew the nurse helped them with that)
(Sabrina and Patrick were sitting across from each other at the table near the door. Patrick couldn't help but look at her beautiful face, which had light colored makeup on and pink lipstick. She smiled at him, showing her perfect white teeth. A waitress comes up to greet them)
Waitress: "Hello. What can I get you two?"
Patrick: "Just a coke for now, please."
Sabrina: "I'll take a Sprite. Thank you."
(The waitress walks away and a few minutes later brings them their drinks before tending to other customers. Patrick and Sabrina take a drink before they both knew it was time to be truthful about their feelings. He clears his throat before speaking)
Patrick: "Thank you for agreeing to come with me here."
Sabrina: (nods & smiles) "No problem." (chuckles slightly) "I think it is safe to say that by now, we needed to talk about everything."
Patrick: "You're right." (sighs) "I'm-I'm sorry if it looked like I was stalling or procrastinating."
(Sabrina looks at him worriedly and attempts to comfort him by placing her hand over his)
Sabrina: (shakes her head) "You didn't. Patrick, considering everything you have been through, I understand why neither of us didn't say anything until now." (sympathetically) "No one completely ever gets over the loss of a loved one. You needed to grieve." (smiles) "No one understands that more than I do."
Patrick: "You're referring to your mother."
Sabrina: (nods) "Yes. I know it's probably not the same thing, but..."
Patrick: "Whether it's the loss of a wife, child, or mother, Sabrina, you have every right to grieve, too."
Sabrina: (tilts her head) "How is Emma doing all things considered?"
Patrick: "She's doing well." (chuckles a little) "I honestly thought she'd have more problems after Robin died, but she's doing better than expected. She misses her mother, of course, but I do my best to keep her memory alive with pictures around the house as well as talking about her when Emma wishes to."
(Patrick smiles tenderly at the woman across from him)
Patrick: "But a certain red headed nurse with glasses has shown my five year old that it's okay to hold someone in your heart while letting someone else in."
(Sabrina couldn't stop the tears from forming in her eyes as she knew what he meant...that Sabrina would never replace Robin in Emma's heart, but that Sabrina is always there for the young girl, as well)
Patrick: (smiles) "Sabrina, I hope you know how much Emma adores you."
(He briefly looks down before facing her again and it was obvious a million different emotions were going through his body at once. He knew what he needed to say next. He knew now it was time to put his heart on his sleeve)
Patrick: "I hope you know how much I adore you, too."
(She looks at him with a surprised look as he's never been this open with his feelings before. She wasn't completely sure if he meant on a friendship level or a romantic level...although, she had a feeling it was the second one. She swallows as she knew she needed answers to her questions)
Sabrina: "D-Do you mean on a friendship level or-or a more personal level? That-That you adore me?"
(Patrick looks down a little to her hands, which are on the table. He gently takes her hands into his and massages them with his thumb before facing her in the eyes)
Patrick: "I think it's always been on a personal level. Since the first time I laid eyes on you, Sabrina Santiago, I knew you were special. You aren't like everyone else. I felt this-this connection with you that I haven't felt with anyone else...not since Robin." (chuckles) "You put a smile on my face when I'm down. You cheer me up when I need it." (smiles) "You opened my heart again and made me realize that I can love again." (shakes his head) "I didn't think it was possible after Robin died." (sincerely) "Thank you for doing that. I will never be able to repay you for that."
(A few tears fall down her cheeks, happy tears. She smiles as she speaks)
Sabrina: "You never have to thank me for doing that, Patrick. I'm just glad I was able to help. Moving on from a tragedy is hard on anyone, but yes, I know what you're going through. It means so much that I'm able to put a smile on your face when you're down or even when you see me." (tilts her head) "You have been there for me whenever I need you. I will always be grateful for that." (smiles) "As for the record, I adore you, too, Patrick. No man has ever treated me with the kindness, respect, and tender care that you have." (scoffs slightly) "I guess my previous place of employment always considered me a nerd with my glasses."
Patrick: (seriously) "Hey, look at me. You are not a nerd. Don't ever use that word around me again. You are perfect and so easy to care for just the way you are. You are beautiful just the way you are, Sabrina Santiago. Anyone who doesn't agree needs to get their eyes checked."
Sabrina: "Everyone at the hospital here in Port Charles has never made me feel that way."
Patrick: (shakes his head in disbelief) "I can't believe your previous place of employment did that."
Sabrina: (shrugs) "Let's just say I wasn't always taken seriously because of my appearance."
Patrick: "Well, I'm here to tell you that you look beautiful with or without your glasses."
Sabrina: (chuckles a little) "I've actually been thinking about trading in my glasses for contacts."
(Patrick turns his head a little with a serious face)
Patrick: "No one has tried to get you to change your appearance, have they?"
Sabrina: (shakes her head) "No. Everyone has been so kind. Felix, Elizabeth..." (laughs) "...even Epiphany."
Patrick: (nods) "Good. Otherwise I'd kick their ass."
Sabrina: (laughs) "Well, I assure you that you don't have to do that."
Patrick: "No one will ever make you feel little about yourself like your previous employment or your sister. I won't let them."
Sabrina: (smiles tenderly) "You are the sweetest guy I have ever known, Patrick Drake."
Patrick: (chuckles) "I've been told that a few times."
Sabrina: (smiles & nods) "You are. Believe that."
Patrick: (smiles) "Coming from you, I will."
Sabrina: (slightly concerned) "Do you need to get back home? I know you said Maxie was watching Emma."
Patrick: (shakes his head) "No, Maxie doesn't mind me gone. She likes Emma and the extra cash."
(Patrick then gets an idea)
Patrick: "Are you free for the next two hours or so?"
Sabrina: (nods) "Yes." (confused) "Why?"
Patrick: (smiles) "How would you like to spend some time with Emma...and me...tonight? She's been asking for you the last couple of days."
Sabrina: (laughs happily) "I would love to spend time with you and Emma tonight."
Patrick: (nods) "Good. Being it's Friday night, I'll let her stay up a little longer so we can have a movie and popcorn night."
Sabrina: (smiles) "Sounds perfect."
Patrick: (curiously) "Any particular movie in mind?"
Sabrina: "I'm not picky. Whatever she picks out is fine."
Patrick: (raises his eyebrows) "Don't let her catch you saying that."
(They both laugh before Patrick pays the bill and they get up from their seats. They get their coats ad head to Patrick's for a movie night with Emma)
