A/N: Hi guys, its been a very long time! Just re-watched the anime and read the manga for Maid-sama! again and couldn't help but be inspired to write again. I also just worked out that there is a manga which is a cross over with Maid-sama which features their kids. Its only a 13 chapter manga but I'm going to try and read it hehe. Please enjoy and forgive what you may read here, I'm a bit out of practice but hopefully its not too bad! Thanks for all the reviews and +alerts so far. I think I might start another one shortly too. Have a few ideas rattling around hehe. Thanks again! Enjoy.
Chapter 5
He could see them giving into their passions through his night vision binoculars. It was dark, but he had the technology to get good shots, even during the darkness of the night.
He would complete his mission, after all, his master had given him an order and so he must follow it.
He wrote down some notes on a pad, took some night vision photos of the couple basking in the after glow of their rigorous passion and then suddenly the girl ran inside.
He picked up his phone and dialed his master's number.
"Ceddy. You made it in good time then! How are things?" asked Gerard, through the phone. Cedric didn't bother with a camera call right now.
"Gerard-sama, I will upload some photos to you later, but, I must say...things are...developing," said Cedric, awkwardly.
There was silence on the other end.
"So he has made contact, despite me giving him a direct warning before he left," sighed Gerard. "Then I have no choice. Eliminate her and bring me the child."
Cedric frowned. "Y-yes Gerard-sama."
"Do you think...do you think I'm being rash?" asked Gerard, noticing how his butler had stuttered.
Cedric stared at one of the photos on the screen of the camera and narrowed his eyes.
The audacity of that common girl knows no bounds...I knew my sentiments were right to begin with. I dislike her even more now, thought Cedric.
"No. She's a common girl and the fact that she carries his child is an abomination. It seems as though he has forgotten where he comes from," said Cedric, shaking his head.
"I agree, Ceddy. Do what you need to do."
And with that, the conversation ended.
Cedric would not fail, he never did. He always did as his master commanded, its just that this time he felt that Gerard was going too far. A few years ago, he knew that Gerard threatened the girl to keep his family name and stature in tact. However, they were only just threats and that is all he ever did. Although, he did not like her personally, he would not have imagined in a million years that Gerard Walker would order him to assassinate her.
But he would do as he asked because it is his duty to serve the Walker family.
And so, Misaki Ayuzawa would be dead by nightfall tomorrow.
She sat herself down by the window, not even noticing the air hostess coming over to her and asking if she wanted something to drink. She was just too nervous and anxious and was deep in thought about the whole situation.
Her perfect bright blonde curls glistened in the reflection in the window since night had now fallen; her expression thoughtful due to the heavy burden she felt she now had.
Maria wondered if she'd made the right decision to come to Japan again. She couldn't shake the chilling voice of Gerard Walker and how he said he wanted Misaki Ayuzawa dead.
No. This is the right decision.
He heard Hiroki's door close quietly and heard soft footsteps down the hall.
Misaki gave him a half smile and then her eyes travelled down to Usui's bare chest. He still hadn't finished getting dressed and liked the way she was looking at him - she was blushing now, just like she used to.
"Look-" she began, realising what she was doing and stopped immediately by looking in another direction as she walked forward toward the kitchen and passed Usui.
"I don't want you to regret this, it wasn't a mistake, this is just what I've wanted to do to you for five years," he said, walking slowly over to her only to stop a foot away.
He looked down at her, noticing her confused expression. "I thought...I thought you were going to take him away," said Misaki, slowly, trying to take in what that statement meant.
She went back over a few details in her head from the past day and something dawned on her. The colour drained from her face when she realised something she had forgotten.
"Oh god," gasped Misaki, looking up at Usui. "Your fiancee!"
Usui sighed and shook his head. "You have it wrong, Misaki. She doesn't mean anything to me, it was arranged," he explained, cupping his hands around her discoloured cheeks. "You haven't done anything wrong and neither have I."
Misaki shook her head and pulled away from his touch. "We have a son but its been five years and we've both been apart for a long time. I knew that you would have been with other people, not that it was ever something I thought about before this-"
"But you have, haven't you?" interrupted Usui.
His expression was emotionless and unreadable now and he was doing that thing he had always done when they were in high school - the whole reason for his nickname and before she knew it, she'd blurted it out without thinking.
"Perverted alien," she murmured softly, causing Usui's eyes to widen in surprise.
She had never learned to stop her mouth before things came out that she didn't want to reveal. When Usui used to taunt her by saying things that he knew were true and knew that she lied about, she would inadvertently confirm them by calling him that nickname he had come to love.
I always thought it was just me being rash, but its always him that brings it out, she thought absently.
"I've missed that name," said Usui quietly, his golden locks cascaded over his eyes which covered up his face.
She couldn't tell what he was thinking.
"The point is-"
"I haven't been with anyone, Ayuzawa," he said quickly before Misaki could finish; looking down at her with confidence.
Misaki looked puzzled. "Not with Rika, not with anyone."
"You're lying," she said softly. She tried to hold back tears and her lip quivered from the tension.
Her golden orbs looked up at him and it was then he could see her inner battle, much like the battle she had back in high school when she didn't want to acknowledge that she loved him.
"Ayuzawa-"
"No, its one thing for us to have a fling like this but its another t-to try and convince me that you..." but she couldn't finish the sentence and began looking to the ground.
She'd never been good at coming out with her thoughts without prompting. She leaned her back against the breakfast bar, trying to pick holes in everything Usui had said.
"I love you, Ayuzawa," he said, finishing what she was going to say. His unreadable green eyes studied the brunette closely, knowing he was finally getting to her.
Misaki snapped her head toward him. She looked at him properly, trying to find the playful, sly smile to show her he was toying or joking with her.
"If you think that I can have just a fling with the woman I love, you would be wrong, Misaki," he said seriously, his face devoid of any expression. "You've no idea how long I've wanted to be with you."
She shook her head. "This is wrong, your fiancee...oh god," she said, bringing a palm to her forehead as if she were about to explode.
"Don't worry about her because I don't. My brother wants me to marry her because her family is influential; more specifically, is able to be influenced as he sees fit," explained Usui.
Misaki couldn't get her head around what he was trying to tell her. On the one hand, Usui was very convincing and she truly did believe that what he did five years ago was to protect her. On the other hand, five years had passed and he had a fiance now.
She would have to put this aside because Hiroki was all that mattered right now and she had to put him first, no matter how much it hurt to be around Usui and what her feelings were for him.
For now, she would try to keep her feelings at bay and push him away which will then ensure her feelings won't get hurt again.
Those were her top priorities now. Hiroki and her feelings. She couldn't go through another heartbreak again and her main thought on the matter was that she would probably get hurt again when Usui married Rika. He said that he loved her and she half believed it, but there was always a risk that he didn't and she couldn't bear that.
So she decided to deal with this later.
Finally Misaki sighed.
"I see," she said. "I can't change the past but we can change the future."
Usui's eyes lit up for a moment, hopeful that Misaki finally believed him.
"Hiroki is all that matters now, I won't allow anyone to take him from me. Despite the issues we have, Hiroki shouldn't suffer for it," said Misaki, calm and level headed once again.
She looked up at Usui, trying to be devoid of any feelings and it took Usui aback. His hopes about convincing Misaki died with the cold look upon her face.
But he was never one to give up and he never would. There would be other opportunities, besides, what she said was true. Their life together could wait until this was all sorted out, hopefully.
"I'll have to visit him in England," she said nonchalantly.
Usui sighed. "You're not going to do that because its reckless-"
"I'm not going to sit idly by and I don't want to go in hiding for the rest of our lives! I'll bring the fight to him," she exclaimed angrily.
Usui looked at her and shook his head. "This isn't high school anymore, Misaki. You can't punch him in the face and say to back off because it won't work!" he said, his voice starting to rise which was unusual for him.
Misaki glared at him. I was not going to do that...well maybe I was going to but I know it won't help, she thought as the visual in her mind of punching Gerald in the face gave her a joy she hadn't felt in a long time.
"If you go there, you will die, do you understand?" he said slowly, trying to make her understand the gravity of the situation.
He walked over to her and placed a hand on her shoulder and one on her cheek which instantly caused her to blush.
"I won't allow it, Ayuzawa," said Usui softly, looking down into her cute, surprised eyes.
It was an expression he had missed because he'd always loved seeing her flushed and surprised because of him.
"What if I said I will promise to never make contact with you again," she said quietly, her eyes turned down. Truth be told, she wasn't sure she could manage it.
Usui narrowed his eyes. "I won't allow it," he said, deadpanned.
The thought of what she was proposing made his blood boil, would she really go that far? Maybe she didn't love him as he loved her was his first thought.
She suddenly looked up at him with determination but there were unshed tears in her eyes and it was then that he realised his last thought was preposterous.
"Its Hiroki we're talking about. I know that you don't know him right now but he's my world, Takumi," she said as she walked past him to look down the hall.
Her golden orbs fixated on Hiroki's closed door.
"I'll do anything to save him from your world because he deserves to grow up normally. With family and friends and to have his own adventures," she said before turning to look at Usui.
He sighed. "I know but you can't go to him because there's no guarantee he will agree," said Usui. "Let me find out some information and then we can devise a plan, can you wait for that?"
But what he really wanted to say is he was all you had because I wasn't around.
Misaki pursed her lips, looking up into his eyes and nodded.
"And until then, I want to get to know him. I want him to acknowledge me as his father," he said more tersely, still a little peeved about only finding out that he had a son, yesterday.
Misaki nodded again with a half smile. "Of course," she said before looking at the time. "Oh, well I need to tuck him in for bed now."
Usui nodded and followed her down the hall.
"Roki, time for bed hun," she smiled, opening the door fully.
Hiroki smiled and nodded and his green orbs noticed Usui's presence behind Misaki.
"Is Taka staying the night, okaa-san?" asked Hiroki as he pulled up his covers, his eyes never leaving Takumi's.
Usui studied him, still in slight disbelief at how much his son looked like him.
Misaki opened her mouth to say 'no' but Usui beat her to it.
"Yes," came his voice from behind Misaki.
She frowned, wanting to contradict Usui but his serious expression made her hold off.
He's still angry, she thought.
"Mumma, could you tell me one of your stories tonight? Of when you were a president at Seika High?" asked Hiroki with an expectant expression. His eyes were lit up in excitement.
"O-of course, baby," she said, hesitant because now that Usui was here, he now knew that she told stories of them to their son.
Misaki walked over and sat at the end of Hiroki's bed. Usui noticed an ottoman near Hiroki's wardrobe and so grabbed that and sat it next to the end of the bed and made himself comfy on it.
Usui looked over at Misaki who had a slight blush as their eyes met and then a playful, knowing smile reached his lips.
So she told stories of us to our son. Interesting, he thought. The fact that she did that told him that she did hold onto her feelings of him, despite what she said earlier.
"Let me tell you a story when I had to organise Seika's open day-"
"No that's a boring one, Prez," piped up Usui, causing Hiroki to look at him and smile. "Tell the one about when you had to go to Miyabigaoka High to save those two boys after they got into a fight."
Usui beamed up at Misaki innocently to which she glared at him darkly and then looked to Hiroki who was also giving her the same expression. They were like peas in a pod, she couldn't win with these two!
She couldn't help but smile and she definitely couldn't very well turn them down.
"Alright, alright I'll tell that one-"
"How does Taka know your stories?" asked Hiroki, looking to Misaki and then to Usui.
They both looked at each other. "Because I was there," smiled Usui, looking to Hiroki nostalgically and realising just how much he resembled himself.
Hiroki's eyes widened. "You're the one from her stories, the Outta Space Perverted Alien," said Hiroki with a small laugh, mimicking his mother perfectly.
Usui raised an eyebrow and looked back to Misaki who simply looked back sheepishly and shrugged silently.
"Right. Well, it started when these two boys from Seika High punched a boy from Miyabigaoka High School..." began Misaki.
The story went for around half an hour. Unfortunately, usually stories sent Hiroki to sleep but this time he was so immersed and interested in the story, he didn't not sleep a wink until they came to the end of the story.
Throughout Misaki's telling of their school antics, Usui felt the need to interrupt at times when she re-counted things incorrectly. It was the downside to him being there when she told them and it was grating on her.
"You're leaving something out," said Usui suddenly, giving Misaki a side glance.
"No, you're mistaken," she said through gritted teeth.
"I think you'll find I'm not," said Usui without batting an eye. He knew she left out the part where Tora had almost raped her and how he had come to save her for a reason but he wasn't going to budge.
And so they bickered for a few minutes while Hiroki watched on and observed. It then made sense to the boy.
"Why are you saying these things? I was there you know..."
"Yes I know, why do you keep going on about it? Roki doesn't need to hear it-"
"Why? A story is a story, you can't leave parts out."
"Yes I can-"
"No you can't. Maybe this is why my scores were number 1 and you were number 2..."
"What?! That's because you were an outta space alien and you were born in space!"
"That's got nothing to do with it-"
"Its got everything to do with it. I'm not going to-"
Hiroki kept watching and smiled slightly at their exchanges. He noticed his mother's cheeks were flushed and even though they were technically 'arguing' he could see that his mother was happy to do so. She looked at this man differently than other men.
"He's the one mumma," Hiroki voiced, causing both Usui and Misaki to stop mid sentence and look at him. "He's the one you liked."
Misaki's cheeks went bright red and Usui's eyes widened.
"I-I think that's enough story time, hun. Lets say good night," she said softly as she leaned forward to give him a kiss on the forehead. "I love you."
Hiroki smiled. "I love you too. Bye bye Taka-san."
Usui got up off the ottoman and nodded. "Night, Roki."
Once the lights were off and she closed the door, she noticed Usui staring at her with a blank expression.
She ignored it and walked down the hall. Suddenly she felt his hand on her arm, forcing her to turn to look up at him.
"You told him all our stories," he said quietly but with a hint of a question.
Misaki pursed her lips. She knew that telling a story would lead to this and it had been what she was afraid of.
"Yes."
"Why?" he asked, genuinely unsure of why she had done it.
"He needed stories, the fairy tale books are too childish for him. He understands at a high school level," she said, looking down at Usui's offending hand that was still on her arm.
He noticed this and let go of her, however, he was far from done with her. "Why did he know you loved me?"
"Please just leave it-"
"No because you always lie at times like these, like you have always done since high school," accused Usui. "Does he know that Takumi Usui from those stories is his father?"
Misaki sighed. "He asked me one day, after story time, whether I loved Takumi Usui. He said it was because he was always saving me, protecting me and seemed to be doing things to keep me away from others who may hurt me. I answered truthfully."
"So you-"
"I said I answered truthfully. He asked me if I had loved you and I said yes. Now if you are staying, I'll get you a blanket because you're not sleeping in my bed," she said suddenly detached again.
Usui watched her walk off in disbelief.
It was going to take a while to get Misaki to trust him again, but, he knew that despite her cold words and how she treated him now - it was all just a ruse.
You'll be mine again, Ayuzawa. Just you wait.
A/N 2: Sorry for this, not heaps of plot development here but I think the biggest issue here was Takumi meeting his son and them sorting out some things. More next time!
