I actually have a few chapters already written up and I could just post them all up at once but… That would mean sitting in front of my computer for hours just typing and editing so I'm just going to be annoying and post these up slowly.
Disclaimer: I don't own FFVII nor its characters. I also don't own the ideas taken from Love Monster.
It took Cloud a while to realise where he actually was. Bits of First Tsurugi were sitting on the other side of the room, up against the wall and his bag had been thrown beside it. There was a ruffle of material and he turned around to see Genesis sitting beside him.
"What happened?" He questioned.
"Probably a mix of things. Overuse of your magic along with the shock of seeing Zack fall off the edge of a highway and also the fact that you showed Zack your wings."
Cloud covered his eyes and groaned in frustration as the memory of what happened the day before returned to him. "How long have I been out?"
"Since yesterday. According to Zack you passed out as soon as you both hit the ground and he had to carry you back to the apartment."
"Yeah, sorry about that Spikey. I had to cover your wings with a dirty blanket because I couldn't find anything else to cover you with. Gen just arrived a while ago, but he helped me with cleaning your wings, since I don't know how to do that."
Cloud quickly sat up, at the sound of Zack's voice with a panicked look on his face. It took him another moment to realise that his wings were still out. Zack didn't seem fazed, but he stayed near the doorway with a cup of coffee in his hands.
"Don't worry, no one else saw them. I at least managed to fold them well enough so I wouldn't hurt you and the blanket made it so that no one would have looked twice at the big bulge that was on your back."
"You… Saw?" Cloud questioned.
"They're kind of hard to miss Spikey. Though I am disappointed in you. Why didn't you tell me sooner? Or did you think that you wouldn't be able to trust me?" Zack frowned at him and Cloud shook his head.
"I didn't even tell Reno."
Genesis snorted. "I wouldn't trust a Turk with anything."
Cloud shot Genesis a glare.
"You told Gen though." Zack pointed out.
"I walked in on him when you were on that trip to Junon. It was more me finding out by a freak accident rather than him telling me."
"It's your fault that this happened in the first place." Cloud pointed out. "If you didn't restrict my magic so much then I could have summoned something else to save Zack."
"If you got into SOLDIER with the amount of MP that you have normally, it would attract Hojo's attention and he'd poke and prod you till you revealed what you were and then you'd never be able to get out of the lab. Do you really want to be put into a cage?" Genesis questioned and Cloud settled back down into his bed with a small pout.
"Aren't you meant to have a huge amount of magic power Spikey?" Zack questioned. "How come you didn't just summon Bahamut?"
"It was either summon Bahamut and show off my wings, or just show my wings and attract less attention. I went for the less attention grabbing option." Cloud replied. "General Rhapsodos put a limiter and a monitor on me when he first found out about my… Situation, so if I got into SOLDIER, then one of your scientist guys wouldn't pay so much attention to me."
"Oh, so that's what that conversation was about… Yeah Spikey, you don't want Hojo on your case. He'll use the most sickest way possible to keep you under his watch and he'll poke and prod you until you can't take it anymore and even then he'll just keep going."
Genesis sighed. "I've been trying to explain that to him, but that doesn't stop him from complaining about how uncomfortable it apparently makes him feel."
Cloud glared at Genesis. "Do you want me to put one on you?"
"No thank you." Zack looked from Genesis to Cloud, then back to Genesis again.
"Am I missing something?" They both stared at him questioningly. "Since when did the two of you get along so well and how did Gen know about you being a White Crow?"
"I walked in on him taking a nap on your couch with his wings out while you were in Junon. He freaked out and tried to erase my memories, but I managed to convince him otherwise." Genesis explained. "By the way puppy, you might want to stay away from him. He might try to erase your memory."
Despite being near the door, Zack moved a bit further away from Cloud.
"If I don't erase them, he might blurt it out to someone." Cloud pointed out and Zack pouted.
"Do you really have that little faith in me?" He questioned with his tail between his legs and the most pitiful look he could manage.
"He's got good reason not to, but I'm sure we can monitor him well enough to make sure he doesn't do something stupid." Genesis said.
"Or we could just tell both Seph and Angeal and then you'll have another two people who know that can monitor me."
Cloud gave Zack an odd look, while Genesis just shook his head. "I told him he could ask you when you woke up. He wanted to tell the other two, because then you'd have more people that could watch over you, but I figured you'd be more uncomfortable with the fact that there would be more people knowing about you."
Cloud nodded his head. "I'd rather they didn't know."
Genesis gave Zack a smug look. "That's why I stopped you from calling them puppy."
Cloud looked horrified. "You were going to tell them?"
Zack looked somewhat sheepish. "I needed to talk to someone about it, so I called Gen because Seph and Angeal weren't answering their phones, but then Gen said he was already on his way home, so I waited until he got back."
Cloud stared at Zack suspiciously. "Maybe it would be safer to erase the Lieutenant's memory."
"You are not touching a hair on his head." Genesis defended. "He's managed to keep that half phoenixes secret for this long. I'm sure he'd be fine with keeping yours."
"If something bad comes out of this…" Cloud stared at Genesis accusingly.
"I'll take full responsibility and I'll try my best to save you from whatever kind of situation Zack ends up putting you in. Besides, it will give me a perfectly legitimate reason to kill that scientist." Genesis grinned at the thought, while Cloud just sighed before curling back up in his bed.
"I'm going back to sleep now, if you'll excuse me."
Both Zack and Genesis nodded and left the room to discuss what they were going to do about their current situation while Cloud just drifted off into a deep sleep.
Cloud woke up with Zack right in his face and he almost jumped straight out of his bed. "What the hell are you doing?" He was on the verge of screaming.
Zack didn't seem to notice as he moved away from him with a huge grin on his face. "Gen just went back to Wutai. We're going to discuss the whole thing with, you not being what I thought you were."
Cloud gave Zack a somewhat suspicious look. "You're not going to say something that's going to make me want to erase your memories are you?" He questioned.
"Hopefully not." Zack grinned.
Cloud just sighed before he started climbing out of bed. "I'm going to brush my teeth and shower first…"
"Yeah, you've been sleeping for pretty much two days now." Zack pointed out. "Does magical exhaustion really take that much out of you?"
Cloud stopped what he was doing and stared at Zack disbelievingly. "You've never had or seen someone pass out from magical exhaustion before?" He questioned.
"I'm usually with Seph or one of the others at the time. You fliers usually have a higher MP than normal people, so I used to just let them cast for me, unless I really needed to cast something. Most of my materia are just enhancers as well, so I don't need MP to use them."
"Point taken. I'd have much more MP if I didn't have these limiters on me." Cloud sighed.
"Why did you even let Genesis put them on you in the first place?" Zack questioned.
"I didn't know that they'd be so uncomfortable." Cloud frowned at the memory. "Plus he had a good point as to why I needed them. It doesn't mean that I'm happy about having them on me though."
Zack laughed a little at that. "I guess we just need to get you into SOLDIER faster than I thought. You know, if I could just talk to Seph about your situation, then he could call in a favour."
Cloud glared at Zack a little at those words. "You know I can still erase your memory despite having these limiters on right?"
Zack almost immediately backed away from him. "I was just kidding. I'm not going to tell them without your explicit permission."
Cloud sighed. "Why do you even want to tell them so badly? It's not like them knowing will make much of a difference. In fact, it'll probably possess more of a risk of the information landing in the wrong hands." Cloud said as he started stripping off his clothes. He stopped when he was about to take off his shirt and frowned at the sight of his wings before he made them disappear. He couldn't believe that he just had his wings out for two days straight.
"It's hard keeping secrets from Seph and Angeal. I mean I really don't know how Genesis does it. Then again, Genesis has always been good at the quiet game. Not as good as Seph, but he still gave him a run for his money."
Cloud gave him an odd look and Zack just grinned sheepishly. "Not to mention I really wasn't kidding about getting favours from Seph. He's already seen what you can do with materia. He'd probably put you in with Genesis' squad."
Cloud seemed to look at him for a long time before he started making his way to the bathroom.
"Cloudy?" Zack wasn't entirely sure if the cadet was angry at him or not.
"I'll think about it." The white crow said as he opened the door. "But that's not permission for you to tell them, do you understand?"
Zack perked up at that. "Understood Cadet Strife sir!"
Cloud couldn't help but laugh a little at Zack's antics before he closed the bathroom door.
