Short chapter to follow after a long one. I'm uploading this at an airport. Merry Christmas everyone!

Sephiroth was staring at the report that was sitting on his desk with disbelief written on his face. Zack was sitting on the other side, twiddling his thumbs and shifting in his seat. Disbelief wasn't really an emotion that Sephiroth often displayed, so it was making him a bit uncomfortable.

"Zack." Sephiroth practically threw the report onto the desk so that Zack could see it. "Explain."

"So Cloudy and I were heading out of the city to go training."

"And the Behemoth?"

"No idea where it came from. By the bullet resistance though, I would have thought that it came from down in the labs."

"The report says nothing about the Behemoth coming from the labs and the scientists said that their test subjects are all accounted for. That's not to say that they couldn't be lying though. Hojo has a habit of covering his tracks when he does something that he's not supposed to."

"Like letting a Behemoth go in the middle of the Shinra complex."

Sephiroth seemed to think over it for a moment. "I believe there was a Behemoth in the labs last time I went down there. If it's noticeably absent tomorrow, I'm going to assume that it was the one that you killed. Now, there was reports about a cadet handling materia that he was unauthorised to use."

Zack shrugged. "It was all Clouds materia. There's nothing in the rules that say that cadets aren't allowed to use their own materia. It was an emergency, so I let him let loose in the middle of the complex. You can't tell me that that was unreasonable."

"Yes, but Shiva within the complex? Not only once, but twice?"

"We didn't have any ice materia on us and I wasn't about to let him summon Knights in the middle of a full building just to get rid of a Behemoth."

Sephiroth sighed and decided to let that one slide as well. There really wasn't any point in arguing some points with Zack. "I was under the impression that your cadet didn't have Shiva on him. If not from our stocks, where did he get that materia from?"

Zack perked up at that. "Gen gave it to him as a present."

Sephiroth raised an eyebrow at that.

"Remember when Gen dragged Cloud out to go see Loveless?"

Sephiroth nodded. He had been worried that the Halfling wouldn't come back from the trip.

"After that apparently Gen took Cloudy to a materia shop and bought him a Shiva."

"I'm surprised that Genesis as taken to him so quickly." Sephiroth genuinely looked surprised too. "I guess Strife's appreciation for Loveless helps his case though."

"I'm just glad that Gen found someone that would actually go with him to see Loveless. Have you heard them both talk about it though? I thought Gen was the only one that could quote that much from a book."

"Is he still trying to get him to memorise the lines from the play?" Sephiroth questioned.

"Caught Spikey muttering lines to himself while he was making dinner the other day. I think he's memorised most of it." Sephiroth smiled a little at the thought of Cloud quoting Loveless while he cooked. It was something Genesis would do, so it wasn't that hard to imagine the cadet picking that up from the red general, considering the amount of time the two seemed to be spending with each other. Speaking of which, they still hadn't finished going through the report of what happened.

"Speaking of Genesis, do you know why he came home when you fell off the highway?"

"No idea."

Sephiroth frowned. The wolf was obviously lying to him, because he had averted his gaze. Zack had always been a terrible at lying to his lovers.

"One more question and I'll let you go bother your chocobo, puppy."

Zack perked up at that.

"How did you not get yourself and your cadet killed when you fell off the highway?"

"Cloudy bought his wings out. Managed to slow us down enough for me to grab onto some debris around that pile of rubbish near the abandoned train station. Poor Spikey passed out from magical exhaustion after."

"And you didn't take him to the infirmary?" Sephiroth questioned.

"Hey I was panicking. Besides, he's fine now, no harm done."

Sephiroth knew that it was bad that he was analysing his lover, but the wolf was at least half lying to him at this point. If the fact that he kept on glancing away wasn't obvious enough, then the fact that his ears were down was a dead giveaway. He stared at Zack for a long time before he just sighed and waved his lover away. "I'll let you off this time puppy, but I expect you to be more careful next time you're fighting a Behemoth in the middle of the building." Zack pouted.

"You make it sound like this kind of thing happens all the time."

"Who was the one that rode a chocobo into my office because he was being chased down by a Midgar Zolom that probably stopped chasing after him as soon as he got out of the swamp?"

"It was my first mission on my own and that thing was pretty persistent!" Zack tried to defend himself.

"It was nowhere near the city. It stopped following you as soon as you got out of the swamp." Sephiroth repeated himself.

"I still think it had been following me for a few miles. It probably went back to the swamp when it realised it couldn't make its way back home if it kept on following me."

"They instinctively don't leave the swamp. I've tried it before. They refuse to move out of it, even when you're in biting distance."

"What? Did you just stand right next to one?"

Sephiroth smirked.

"Are you serious?"

Sephiroth's expression didn't even change.

"What did it do?"

"It just stood there. Reared up and it kept on hissing at me. I didn't even have my sword out at the time."

"What would you have done if it attacked you?" Zack questioned.

"Probably be in its stomach right now."

Zack gave him a look that said he obviously wasn't impressed.

"I was just joking puppy. Zoloms' can't reach as high as I can fly, so it would have been fine, and even if I didn't have time to fly away, I would have had more than enough time to draw my sword if I needed to."

It was Zack's turn to sigh and shake his head. "Why is it always you that does the weird dangerous things? Why can't you just stick with doing the weird things?"

Sephiroth just continued to smirk.

"Where would the fun in that be?"
