Mother Knows Best
Chapter Eighteen
Kiera pulled her blanket tightly around her as she leant her side against the wall with her eyes on her handsome boyfriend. She watched him as she gathered his things, and whisk his jacket on. She sighed sadly, he was leaving to go back to Mobius and she wasn't all that pleased to see him leave but he did have an ongoing case back there so she couldn't exactly stop him from leaving.
He found her sad gaze and softly lifted her chin up to meet his eyes. "Hey, don't be sad, love." Gently giving her cheek a soft stroke with his thumb.
"You'll see me again quicker than you think." He smiled.
She hummed her response. "Mm-hm."
"You can't stand being away from me that long anyway, can you, mister?" She smirked, taking a hold of the lapels of his jacket and pulling him in slowly.
He leaned down to meet her lips with his own. "No, I can't." He whispered softly to her as he kissed her.
"Can we get this show on the road? That'd be great, thanks." Tails perked up, interrupting their romantic moment before he leaves for Mobius. Shadow pulled away from their kiss and glared at the two-tailed fox.
"See you around, Tails, and take care of your mother." He warned playfully.
Kiera chuckled and shook her head. "Aren't I'm the one taking care of him?" She said with a head tilt.
"No, no you aren't." Tails smirked.
She narrowed her eyes at him. "Remember, mother knows best."
Tails waved. "Goodbye, Shadow." He pushed past Kiera and hushed Shadow out the door.
He turned. "Really?" She glared at him.
"Really. We have season eleven to watch!" Tails exclaimed as he headed to the living room.
He tore his office apart in a fit of rage. Anger bubbled through his veins as he punched, threw and kicked his fury out. broken lamps, side tables split in large and small pieces and books and artefacts were tossed and thrown askew around the room. He yelled and screamed his frustration.
Alistair entered foyer and paused his steps when he heard his boss going through his stages of anger. Silent rage at first, breaking things to take out his frustration, then screaming the building down and finally silence again before his brain worked. Alistair glanced at one of his lackeys.
"Is he still having his hissy fit?" He asked through his bosses yelling.
The lackey nodded.
Alistair sighed and accepted his fate as he entered his office. Golden rage induced eyes met his as he shut the door behind him. "How can she not be dead, Alistair?" He snarled at his second in command.
He took in a breath for courage before he spoke but his boss continued. "I've killed her twice! Twice! One by baseball bat, the other by knife!" He frantically ran his hand through his messy bundle of hair.
"She survived." He put simply.
He stepped towards Alistair with the intent to harm. "No shit she survived. She's not a bloody cat, she doesn't have nine lives!" He growled lowly before turning away.
Alistair spoke once more. "What do you plan to do with her?"
His boss tightened his fist ad hardened his jaw. "She is mine. I will bloody tear her apart if I must. She will not take this empire from me! It is mine!" Alistair knew that he meant every word. Every single one.
"What about the boy, Lorenzo?" Alistair added.
Lorenzo barked at him with such malice in his heart. "I'll kill him, too."
By the turn of a key, Shadow swung the door to his apartment and solemnly strode into it. It was dark, cold and no love to be found. He was right about Kiera not needing to wait too long to see him again. He now hated his home in Mobius, hell, it wasn't his home anymore. Kiera was his home.
For now, he had a job to do and then he could go home – to her.
Buzz. Buzz.
His phone vibrated again and again in his pocket until he shook her out of his mind and answered it.
It was Silver.
He said. "Hey, what's up?"
"Shadow, get down to the station. I have a lead on the perp." He sounded more than sure, and Shadow was happy that he got ahead of things when he was away in Yukon River.
"I'll be there in ten." He ended the call, and shuffled back out of his cold and barren apartment, locking it after then scooting himself down the sets of staircases.
Silver stood by the reception of the Police Station, with an electronic tablet in hand with the evidence ready for Shadow's opinion. He saw his partner running up the stairs with his bag in hand as he forgot to drop it off when he was at his apartment.
"Shadow, over here!" Silver called over to him.
Shadow found him quickly and moved over to him. "What did you find?"
Silver adjusted the tablet so Shadow could look at what he found with Blaze. "A hidden camera in a teddy bear was found in the crime scene, and it caught footage of the killers." He informed him.
He raised an eyebrow, pleasantly surprised. "A nanny cam? What did you find on there? Can you identify the killers?" He pondered.
Silver brought up the criminal record and I.D. "Here, his name is Alistair and he is a hitman and right hand man to Lorenzo, head gangbanger to the Lunar mafia."
Shadow's heart dropped all the way to his stomach as he heard both of their names, and he fell into utter and complete silence.
Silver saw this immediately. "Do you recognise them?"
He managed to get out one word. "Kiera."
"What about Kiera, Shadow? Does she know these men?" Silver questioned him, wanting answers.
Shadow's demeanour darkened. "They're going to kill her."
He paused.
"They're going to kill my girl."
Kiera patted Tails' knee. "I'm going to head to bed, kiddo. Don't stay up too late, okay?" She got up and placed a gentle kiss to his forehead.
Tails smiled up at her. "I won't, sleep well." Kiera walked around the sofa, smiling but that dropped along with her heart.
"Don't worry, kid. She'll sleep perfectly." A wooden baseball bat stained with blood swung at Kiera's head, and she fell to the floor, unconscious.
Tails rushed to his feet, ready to fight the man whom he resumed to be Alistair. "Get away from my mother!" He snarled but he fell to the ground to with a prick to his neck.
"Your mother is mine, kid." Lorenzo smiled wickedly.
