A/N- -soft whistle of a bomb dropping... BOOM!- OMG IT'S MEL AND SHE'S UPDATED! Tis the truth my dear, dear, dedicated readers. I could never apologize enough, but the truth is, every day that passes by, is another day that it gets harder and harder to write a chapter. Let me catch you up real quick...

I've changed jobs twice, continued going to school, then I got engaged to the gorgeous girl I mentioned in my last post! Wonderful right? We have 2 dogs together, a cute apartment, and just an all around busy life. Somewhere in the midst of that, my laptop took a crap, but it's ok! cause everything word wise is safe. However, it made it harder to motivate myself in the rare moments I had to write. (cause we have a desktop, but who wants to sit at a desktop?! I sure don't!)

So any who, that lovely fiance of mine that I mentioned, urges me to write, cause she wants to know what happens next, but again, it's just difficult. (I mean I finally gave in and I'm sitting at the desktop, lol) Truth is, she is out of town right now which gives me much more time to sit and focus. So here I am.

This post has been written for like 2 years. Because remember when I told you I was super ahead, but trying to post chapters only as I write? Yea, I haven't been writing, so I didn't want to catch up with myself. But I figured I owed you lovely people something, especially since I am currently sitting at my computer trying to accomplish something! haha..

Anyways, ENJOY!

-Mel

So, I'm not going to respond to a many of the reviews left, but some of you asked some stuff that I want to clear up for that reviewer and anyone else who might have the same question, ok?

Lestat Giovanni- Ok, so I think this chapter might actually answer a bit of your question for you. I understand that singer refers to blood lust for the vampire. In the book, one of Edward's largest draws to Bella was that her blood literally called out to him because it smelled like no other to him. Creating a blood lust that he inevitably had to learn to control in order to be around her. Which is why I think he began watching her sleep. (other than his mild curiosity because she was a true mystery to him with her shield and all). That same blood lust is going to be displayed through Alice's POV, in this chapter actually. Because ultimately, Alice has not had to be in any close, closed in, proximity to Bella so it has been easier to control. It hasn't been as large a factor yet because Alice is too blind by all of the other emotions she is battling through trying to figure out about Bella. Make sense? You will see some of that blood lust come through in the upcoming chapters. I agree, that it would be smart for Jasper to be the singer vamp, and you could agree that it's kind of like that, but only for the same reasons that it is in the book, not for any other reason in this story. He is just new to the craft of being a vegetarian. Hope this explanation helps, please feel free to explain anything further that you are thinking, that you feel I did not explain well enough myself. :)

plldlv - No! There will be no creepy sleep watching in this fic. There will just be long distance watching on Alice's part like you've already read. That's as creepy as it will get. lol At least until they are in a relationship, because they don't sleep remember? So eventually Alice will be there when Bella is sleeping, but Bella will be aware. hahaha...

Alice

We arrive at the hospital after a short drive. I did my best to keep the speeding to a minimum; it was a hard task, but I managed. No need to freak poor Isabella out the first time she's in a car with me. Or anywhere with me for that matter.

I'd already asked Emmett to text Carlisle and let him know of our upcoming arrival. So I lead Isabella through the hospital, straight to my adoptive father's office. I knock softly and he answers the door after a few moments.

"Afternoon, Carlisle." I greet him with a smile and I see him refrain from chuckling.

"Hello, Alice." He replies, endearment lacing his tone as it often does when he's speaking to any one of us.

"This is Isabella Swan." I introduce the beauty standing next to me and his kind eyes meet hers.

"It's wonderful to meet you Isabella." He holds his hand out for her to shake and she takes it hesitantly.

Her eyes flash to their clasped hands and I see the questions forming behind her gaze. So I pipe up quickly before the thoughts can start forming.

"Isabella ran into Emmett and fell. Could you please check out her wrist?" I ask him and he gives us both a smile as he withdraws his hand.

"Sure. Come this way." He steps out of his office and closes the door behind him before leading us down the corridor to the emergency room.

"How did you land Isabella?" He asks as he directs her to sit down on an exam table and then pulls the curtain closed.

"I guess I attempted to catch myself and most of my weight landed on my wrist." She answers him offhandedly.

"Well if it were broken, the swelling would be a lot more rapid then it is." He silently asks for her other hand by extending his own with the palm up. She places hers in his and he examines both side by side. "Compared to you unharmed wrist, you've swelled minimally, but still in a rather short period of time. Can you move it at all?"

She attempts to move it some, but I see her wince when she moves it in certain directions.

"Ok, you can rest it. I'll order an x-ray just to make sure there isn't a hairline fracture and then we'll go from there." He gives her a polite smile and then his eyes connect with mine. "A word Alice?"

"Sure." I give him a smile and then look to Bella. "I'll be right back."

She gives me a short nod and I follow Carlisle out of the exam room.

"So this is Isabella?" He asks me with a raised eyebrow.

"Yes." I answer simply.

"Am I to assume your siblings know you're here with her?"

"Yes they know. The obvious two weren't very delighted about it." I answer him with a frown.

"They'll come around Alice. You've got to understand where their concerns are coming from."

"Well that goes both ways, Carlisle."

"Of course it does." He lets out an unnecessary breath. "Were there a lot of students around when she fell?"

"No. It was at the end of the day, most of the students were already out of the school."

"Ok. At least try and be careful of the exposure risks while you're there. Especially until Isabella is completely informed and has any say in the matter."

I give him a simple nod and he gives me a smile.

"Give it some time Alice, if it's meant to be, you know it will be."

"I know."

"You go ahead and get back to her, and I'll go put in the order for her x-ray."

He puts a comforting hand on my shoulder before he turns and walks towards the nurse's station.

Taking a deep breath, I turn and walk the few feet back toward Isabella's room.

"Sorry about that." I offer her a smile as I take a seat in the chair next to her.

"No worries." I see her shift uncomfortably as she looks around the small space. "So uh," I lock eyes with her for a moment before she goes back to looking around, "how long have you been into poetry?" She asks awkwardly, trying to fill the void of silence around us.

"Oh, uh, for a while. Been a hobby for as long as I can remember." I tell her cryptically. If she only knew how long it actually is.

I scowl at my thoughts and she catches my expression.

"Is something wrong?" She asks, her brows furrowing in question.

"Oh," I giggle, knowing I was caught reacting to myself, "no. Everything's fine. Just lost in my thoughts for a moment."

She nods and opens her mouth to say something else when a nurse pushes the curtain aside and walks in with a wheelchair. "Ms. Swan?" She calls and Isabella nods and raises her good arm. "I'm here to take you for your x-ray."

"Ok." She answers as she stands and then takes a seat in the wheelchair.

"See you soon." I chirp to her and she seems to hold back laughter at my unnecessary enthusiasm.

When she comes back, I smile widely at her and she actually smiles back. I'm glad she seems to be warming up to me.

She sits back on the edge of the bed and I watch her from the corner of my eye as she gets comfortable.

"How long is it going to take to get the results?" She asks while staring at the wall in front of her.

"I assume it depends on how many other x-rays they have to go over. But if I know Carlisle, he'll push for your results and come in soon to deliver the verdict." I give her a smile when she looks my way.

"You know; you smile an awful lot." She states suddenly and I chuckle. "Seriously, what are you on?" She sounds more serious and skeptical than she does sarcastic.

Oh she is definitely feeling more comfortable with me.

"I'm not on anything. I'm just a genuinely happy person." I tell her, complete with another smile.

She quirks an eyebrow at me but does not comment further.

"Don't worry, you'll get used to it." I tell her honestly and she seems surprised by this new revelation.

"And what makes you so certain?" She quips with a raised eyebrow, the ghost of a smile pulling up one side of her perfect lips.

"Let's just call it a hunch. I'm fairly lovable, and the constant smile is just part of that." I laugh at the queer expression she gives me. "Oh Isabella, we're going to be great friends!" I beam at her and clap my hands together excitedly. I just can't help how happy I am right now. I'd rather it be under better circumstances, of course, but I'll take what I can get for now.

She gives me a slow nod; the kind of nod that tells me she thinks I'm crazy and that she doesn't believe me. I smile even though she's not looking at me. As of now, what I've told her is what my visions are portraying. I know from experience, though, that she's just being distant in order to protect herself.

We sit quietly after that; I don't want to push her too much when she still doesn't really know me or understand my intentions of wanting to be friends with her. Carlisle comes back after half an hour or so, and shares a sad smile with the both of us.

"Well, Isabella, it doesn't look good." He starts off with as he walks over to the x-ray viewer hanging on the wall. He puts her x-ray up and turns the light on. "You have a scaphoid fracture in your wrist. It's not a complete break, but it is serious enough to need a cast for a minimum of four weeks."

She gets up to get a closer look at her x-ray, an aggravated look on her face. "Are you kidding me? All because I ran into Godzilla and fell?" She asks exasperatedly.

I chuckle softly at the nickname she used for Emmett earlier, but sober up quickly when I think about how much I know this will suck for her. I'm sure she already feels like she has no luck in the world having to move to this dreary town, and now she has a fractured wrist. Stupid Emmett standing in the wrong place. I do my best to keep from growling out loud.

I take a deep breath to try and relax myself, but instead I drag in a lungful of Isabella's intoxicating scent. Which is currently more alluring since she's angry, causing her blood to rush through her body. I feel my senses slowly trying to take over as my ears zero in on the sound of her raging pulse. The hotter her body temperature gets with her mood, the more I feel my will power slipping away and calling for her coveted blood.

Alice focus! I reprimand myself with the little consciousness that I have left. You do not want to hurt Isabella. I stop breathing for a moment so that I can clear my mind of the craving induced fog that set in. I do my best to focus on my father when he starts speaking.

"I'm sorry Isabella. I know it's not the best news, but Alice did the right thing by bringing you to the hospital. If you wouldn't have had this x-ray, it would take even longer for it to heal and would have caused more pain and irritation in the long run." He tries to find a positive to the situation, but nothing seems to quell her current distaste for this news.

"Does it have to be a cast?" She finally asks, trying to hide the edge in her voice.

"Yes. It will heal faster if we restrict the movement as much as possible." He turns the light to the viewer off and pulls the slide from it. "I'm going to grab the supplies needed to wrap up your arm. In the meantime, I'm going to send a nurse with some ice; we need to try and get some of that swelling down before we wrap it up." He gives her another half-smile, before looking at me. "Are you in control of yourself?" He asks me in his quick tongue.

"Yes." I answer briefly. He knows just as well as I do what happens when a human's emotional state rises, he's just more immune to it.

"Be careful Alice. You still have to drive her home." He reminds me. He gives me a sympathetic look before closing the curtain and leaving.

I silently reprimand myself again. I have to try harder. I must be better than that!

The nurse comes in minutes later and hands Isabella an ice-pack, instructing her to ice it in intervals of fifteen minutes until they come to put the cast on.

However, she doesn't have to ice it for long before Carlisle comes back with a cart of his necessary supplies.

"Ok, Isabella, this shouldn't take long and then you can be on your way."

She just nods her head solemnly and follows his directions as he asks her to position her arm a certain way.

"So, how do you like Forks so far?" Carlisle asks her politely.

I know he's just trying to ease her tension and make the process go by faster.

"I don't know which is ruder, lying or telling you the truth." She answers him morosely.

He chuckles, "answer however you'd like. I assure you I will find no personal offense in your opinion."

"It is the most unsatisfying, wet place I've ever had the privilege of being in." She replies monotonously.

Carlisle and I share a smile with one another. He must find her cloud of negativity oddly charming just as I do.

"Well I assure you, that if you look in the right places, you will find that this town isn't quite that bad." He gives her his charming smile as his eyes meet hers for a moment.

When he looks back to his work, I see her eyes glance sideways in my direction, but then turn back forward just as quickly. I inwardly smile.

"Yea, maybe." She answers more softly.

"I'm sure Alice would love to show you around. She has a knack for finding all the good stuff." I can see his mischievous smile from here.

Oh father, always playing the matchmaker. I love you! Even when you're not being so subtle.

She doesn't reply, but she does turn her attention completely towards me. She has a pensive expression on her face as her eyes study my own.

When she turns back towards Carlisle, I take a second to glimpse into our near future and see that she hasn't quite made up her mind about me yet. I guess this calls for a little persuading.

Carlisle is finished in no time and is giving Bella her home-care guide and discharge papers.

"Just keep your arm as dry as possible. Understandably, the rain doesn't make that easy, but just take care to cover it under high volumes of water. There's a prescription for pain here. It's a high dosage Motrin, so just take one as needed. Come back right away if the pain gets worse or if you start feeling feverish. Otherwise, come back in four weeks and we'll x-ray it again and see where you're at." He gives her a smile.

"Ok." She states simply and accepts the packet of paper he hands over to her.

"Have a good day Isabella. Drive carefully Alice." He says just to keep up appearances of pleasantries.

I give him a smile before he holds the curtain back for us and I lead her from the emergency room.

When we get back to the car, I immediately open the door for her and close it as she settles in the seat.

"You didn't have to do that." She mumbles, glancing my way as I shut my own door behind me.

I give her an easy smile. "I know." I reply simply.

She just nods as I head back towards town.

"Thank you," She looks towards me again, "for taking me."

"It was no trouble at all. I'm just sorry it turned out to be a serious injury."

"My kind of luck." She grumbles, looking out the window again. "But thank you." She reiterates.

"You're welcome." I say softly and she gives me a half smile before we fall silent once more.

I take her to Mrs. Valentine's book store and pull up to the curb. At the fastest rate I'm allowed to show in public, I hurry to Isabella's side to open her door for her once more.

"Thank you." She tells me again as she climbs from the car.

"My pleasure." I give her a wide smile.

The rain is falling down at a steady stream, so I reach out unthinkingly and fix her jacket sleeve over her new cast.

I see her eyes immediately become fixated on my hands, and I can see the questions building in her expression once more. So when I'm done, I tuck them into my jacket pockets and nod towards the door. "Shall we?" I give her a tight-lipped smile and wait for her to take a step towards the building.

I again, open the door for the always-brooding girl, and then follow her inside.

The door dings, signifying our arrival, but my keen sense of hearing tunes into a quiet argument happening in the back of the store somewhere.

"I'll be with you in a moment." We hear Mrs. V.'s voice call from the back.

"I've already told you, we don't have the money." An older woman says gravely.

"Then I will pay her out of my own pocket, and not the store's. We need the help around here. You're not getting any younger, and the store is slowly falling apart because the two of us aren't enough to hold it together." Mrs. Valentine attests. "Just stop being stubborn mother. Everything will work out just fine. Besides, weren't you the one who was just pestering me about finding help?"

There's not another word and moments later, Mrs. V. walks out from the back.

"Isabella, Alice." She addresses us, "Emmett told me you had to take a trip to the Emergency Room, is everything alright?" She asks, with utmost concern clearly lacing her tone

Isabella holds up her arm, showing off her dark blue cast. "I fractured my wrist, because I ran into a human boulder." Comes her sarcastic reply.

I giggle, knowing that her description is pretty much dead on, and hold back more laughter when I see our teacher's peculiar look.

"You... fractured your wrist?" She questions slowly.

"She fractured it from falling. After running into Emmett." I explain.

She nods slowly, letting it sink in. "I see. Well are you ok?"

Isabella just nods and I give Mrs. V. a smile when she looks to me for confirmation.

"Okay then. Good." She smiles warmly at us. "Well, let's get started?" She prompts and Isabella nods her head in agreement.

"Have a good day ladies. I shall see you at school tomorrow." I give our teacher a dazzling smile and she, unknowingly, blushes slightly before turning and heading towards the check-out counter.

When Isabella turns to me with a questioning gaze, I shrug my shoulder's innocently and give her, her own cute smile. "You take care of that wrist, ok?" I tell her softly.

"I will." She nods.

"If you have any trouble with it, just let me know and Carlisle will take another look at it." I tell her indisputably, with a pointed look.

She just nods once more.

"Ok, I'll see you later." I give her another smile, unable to help myself. She just brings out that side of me; more-so than it being a natural habit.

She gives a small wave with her good hand and I return the gesture before turning and walking back out into the rain.
