Chapter 17

Stephanie POV

I made my way down to Bobby's office and greeted a lot of the guys along the way. I walked right into the room without knocking and got a great view of my fiancé's package. The hysterical laughter that came from me couldn't be stopped.

"Babe," was the only thing that got me to stop laughing. "This falls under the category of being aware of your surroundings."

I looked at Bobby who was standing stock still, confused, and did my finger wave before exiting the office and waiting my turn outside the door. I didn't know until today what guys had to go through during a physical. No wonder they hate it so much!

After a good 10 minutes of picking my nails impatiently I felt a tingle on the back of my neck and a warm hand soon replaced the feeling. "He's all yours babe."

I smiled and kissed Carlos. "We need to talk later, there's a lot we still haven't discussed regarding our wedding and the fact that my mother has decided to make an appearance today. I also need to borrow a company car and visit the bonds office, Lula and Connie have been bugging me ever since we got them those new phones to replace their old ones. I need to set them straight about or business being only our business because I'm pretty sure the message hadn't sunk in the first time."

Carlos' mouth tilted a little on one side and he nodded. "I agree. I believe we have a few matters to discuss, including one Morelli. I will be on seven by 5 tonight after my meetings and reviews of the physicals. I look forward to reading yours." He slowly came towards me and wrapped me in his arms.

I looked up at him and held his head in my hands so he would look me right in the eyes. "Only if I get to read yours in return." He knows exactly what test I was referring to.

"That will cost you." He said close to my ear and he was suddenly gone.

I was so star struck by his admission that I didn't realize Bobby was calling my name. "Come on in Steph, it's not as bad as the guys make it sound."

Smiling my signature smile I walked into his office and was immediately handed a urine specimen cup to fill. I took care of business and was guided through the rest of the physical with ease. Bobby checked my blood pressure, hearing, sight, reflexes, lungs, and heart. He told me everything was in working condition and handed me my filled out papers to give to Carlos before heading up to seven for the night.

While opening the papers a pink one fluttered to the floor. In this business we all learned fast what the pink slip was, Carlos handed them out often. Why was I being given one if I was perfectly fine?!

Carlos POV

While finishing up the last of my meetings I thought over the encounter I had with my babe during my physical. I couldn't believe Steph just walked into the office and didn't even knock. What if it were another of my employees getting their physical? We ran over my time slot to do the one extra test but I wasn't expecting to be walked in on.

After talking about starting a family I didn't care that we weren't married yet, I just wanted to start a life with my babe. We both aren't the most conventional people in the world, so why should we start sticking to the rules we were raised to abide by now? I knew it was killing my babe to keep having negative after negative test, but the way I see it is everything happens for a reason. It is getting a little hard to think that I am having trouble getting her pregnant but I know with time it will happen. The stress is not helping matters either.

I collected the signed contract, shook hands with the customer and made my way to my office. Looking at the clock I realized it was 4 o'clock and babe would probably be finishing up her visit with the girls at the bonds office. This there have been strained ever since they alerted the burg of our private business that we thought we could confide in them with. Turns out we couldn't. Tank was angry to find out this information as well and his relationship with Lula has been a little rocky over the past few months. I knew babe loved her friends but I also knew she needed to speak her mind so she can rebuild her friendships.

Sliding into my buttery soft leather desk chair I logged into the appropriate software to check on the status of everyone's physical. Little did Stephanie know, I could look at her physical results without her permission. It's good to be the boss.

I scrolled through the options and clicked on the list of those who were pink slipped. The pink slips can be very inconvenient considering schedules would have to be rearranged due to absences. I was reading every name on the list when at the very bottom I saw Stephanie Plum. What in the world?!

Returning to the main menu of the program I typed in my fiancée's name and her physical results came in immediately. Her vitals, lungs, and heart looked good. When I got to her restriction description I was even more confused. She was only restricted from doing any type of heavy lifting over 10 pounds and from doing any field work containing bounty hunting. There was something I must have missed.

I went back through the physical and read every single detail. I got to her urine analysis and went through every category. Her color, pH, glucose, nitrites, blood count, and ketones were perfect. I got to the analysis of her proteins and had to read this particular part over three times to make sure it wasn't my mind playing tricks on me. There were traces of hCG in her urine. Stephanie is pregnant.

I logged off the computer and shut it down for the night. We needed to definitely sit and have a serious talk now. Nothing was more important than being with my fiancée and mother of my unborn child.
