Post T.A.A.H
Link had taken care of Mini since the young one's appearance in Melee. The bond that grew between the two of them was strong.
It had been the reason for the Hylian breaking the very rules of time and space in order to see that the child became a separate entity from himself entirely. That bond was also what had Link asking Fox to take the child to be raised in the Mushroom Kingdom after Link's last death. It was what had prompted Link to once again take on a parental role when he met Mini again in Brawl, and yet again sending him away to Marth before the battle with humanoid Soul Edge began.
Link loved his younger brother, and he would be dammed if the child were to suffer his fate because of his inability to act.
Mini loved his big brother as well.
He may not have known all the details, but he knew that the reason he was free was because Link was not. He knew that the older Hylian had done something to ensure that they did not suffer the same fate. That in turn meant that Link was bound to suffer twice as much for the both of them. The boy therefore found that he would have to live on as Link's small shadow, doing what he did not have time to, taking charge when it seemed that the responsibility might land on the older Hylian's shoulder. It was hard for a child, but he could handle it. It was only temporary. Just until Mini could find a way to free his big brother form the curse that was his destiny. He would never let anyone replace Link in his heart before then.
Siegfried was almost envious of the sweet bond. Or he was, until the two Hylian's welcomed him into their world with equal vigor and open arms.
Pre T.A.A.H
Siegfried remembered the last time he had fallen ill very, very clearly. The event was not one of immediate fondest, and ironically enough that was what made it stick in the knight's mind so strongly.
He and Yunseong had contracted some kind of feverish cold while searching for information in the slums of France. He remembered that it had been raining quite heavily those few days leading up to their inevitable sickness. Link had been tending to Amy, who was already showing symptoms of a semi serious ailment, and Raphael was keeping his staff small and precise in order to try and control a possible outbreak. Yunseong, who had been in the neighborhood at the time, was the only other option for a partner. Siegfried could have waited until the rains let up, but he had been too anxious to get information. Yunseong had just been too eager to cure his boredom. And so the two embarked on their quest, and so the two eventually became sick.
When they had informed Raphael of the development, the Frenchman had responded by locking them both in a room on the other side of the mansion with nothing more than a few bowls of fruit, some bread, and a bowl of water. The door was locked from the outside and could only be opened with a master key.
Amy had just gotten over her small spell, he explained when they began trying to tear down the door, and anymore contact with sick individuals would only make her relapse. Link also could not afford to get sick. He had been healthy upon entering the world, he would be healthy upon leaving it, and he would be healthy every day of his stay in this world if the Frenchman had anything to say about it. Therefore he would not hear it when said sick individuals tried to convince him not to keep them in such extreme quarantine. He simply bid them goodbye after hoping for their recovery.
After the initial bashing of the door, on Siegfried's part, and crying out in indignation, on Yunseong's, the two had accepted their fate. For the next week they slept, ate, and tried in vain to open the door that held them prisoner. The knight could recall several instances when they had gotten so irritated with the other that fists would eventually fly. The altercations would last all of two minutes before one of them got too tired to continue on. He remembered the food beginning to smell funny, the water eventually getting too warm, the bread becoming stale, and his body slowly shutting itself down and starting up again. He also vividly remembered one more thing about that week.
Every single day Link would appear from behind the door and start speaking to his two friends. He and Siegfried would spend hours talking about nothing, everything, letting their voices travel through the crack under the door. There they would remain until Raphael caught sight of what Link was doing and dragged the boy away.
Despite how unfair the whole situation had been, and if he were to be honest with himself later on, it had been one of the best weeks of the knight's life.
Fang: Hey. This looks familiar.
MistressOfTime: It should. That's what happened when you got the flu last year.
Fang: Yes, I remember that now. It was not a fun time.
MistressOfTime: I know. I caught it after you did, from you actually, remember?
Fang: …sorry.
MistressOfTime: Alright guys please R&R.
