Happy reading!

Chapter Four:

Basso sent us on our separate ways, night was coming to an end so meeting our benefactor was out of the question for the time being. Before I got the chance to exit I was whipped around by my new found partner.

"I think its time we had a drink and you told me who exactly you are, strangers and I don't get along well."

"Sounds like you're buying the first round then, I have questions of my own for you partner," I said the last bit with undisguised malice. I didn't like working with others, I had before and it had never worked out. Usually sending one or the other out of town for fear of their life.

We sat down in a sucluded booth in the bar portion of the run down bar. Garrett motioned to the bar tender to bring two drinks. With warm ale in front of us I began to speak.

"Where have you been?"

"Around." was all he said

"That doesn't exactly help me figure out where you've been and why you would leave your work behind." I was frustrated

"Who are you?" He asked completely ignoring my previous statement

"Endy, we met before we left tonight dont you remember?" It was my turn to be sarcastic

"You know what I mean, I've seen you before but only a few times and you only first showed yourself four years ago." Now he sounded annoyed

"When did you see me?"

"You mean which time did I see you. Only a few but enough for me to remember. You were wounded once."

I remembered that night it was a year after I had first come to the City I was trying to rob a jewlery store for a small commission, but the man who I got the job from betrayed me. I was ambushed that night and barely made it out alive. I told this story to Garrett who seemed surprised.

"So it was you?" He asked

"Yes, I watched this place for sometime after you left. I needed a job and competition was seemingly gone." before he could get another would out I asked him again "where did you go?"

"I don't know. I thought I was dead a dead man when that room collapsed, clearly I wasn't. All I know from that night was that our mission failed an Erin is still gone."

"Erin? The girl? Shes still gone yet you return." I was confused that he had opened up like that, he seemed lost himself.

"Was she your lover?" I asked him somewhat awkwardly

He cracked a small smile at that. "No more of a sister of sorts, I taught her everything she knew and she abused that knowledge thinking herself stronger and smarter. That's what got her killed."

"You did not die, if you where both together and you both fell why would you be alive and not her as well?"

"Ah, you see that's how our dear friend the Thief-Taker lost his leg. I used him as a hold for a grappling hook. I didn't have as far to fall as her either." He was now staring at the seat behind me as if remembering the night. "You've got your answers about me now I want answers about you."

I knew that was coming

"Alright then, fair enough."

"Where are you from?"

"Thirty years ago I was born in this shit hole city. Fifteen years ago I left traveled the world worked with guilds and other thieves. Four years go I came back in hopes to find my mother, when I returned she was wasting away so I stayed. I planned to leave after her death but then you disappeared and the offerings of this place where mine for the taking." I laid it all out on the table much like he did.

His eyebrows shot straight up when I finished my statement. "You worked for guilds?"

"Yes, I don't recommend it either guild wars are no joke with thieves. I've been chased out of many cities in fear of my life and done the same to others. Eventually I was threatened by my own guild so I left and came back here. If I ever show my face in Paris again I'll be murdered as soon as I'm recognized, and that wont take long as one of the most notorious thieves in the area." I smiled at the last bit, I could be very arrogant when it came to my past. "Anymore questions for me dear Garrett?"

He eyed me up and down for a moment. "I know who you are."

"No you don't."

"The Barron thirty years ago had an affair, huge scandal at the time I was eight my mother followed it very closely, he married his mistress and passed his title on. They had a little girl, Erendira, the former Barron left them ten years after. At fourteen, poor and hungry the little girl was caught stealing she spent six months in the service of the Barron at the time. Three days after her fifteenth birthday she disappeared and never found. Welcome home Erendira." He said all of this is a shit eating grin on his face.

She moved faster than I thought she could, in the blink of an eye she had my head on the table and a dagger at my throat.

"My name is Endy, no surname, I have no father. If you ever speak to anyone about my past I will slit your throat as you sleep. This partnership is over Garrett. Now go back to whatever hole you crawled out of, you piece of City trash." She all but growled at me.

Then again faster than I could think she was up and out the door.

She had made my head throb, I felt old. Thirty eight was a big number and if I couldn't detect that coming out of her before it happened maybe I was losing my touch.

I quickly shook that thought out of my head, I was just rusty from my year of sleep, I was not old.

Entry 46

HOW DARE THAT GUTTER RAT ACT AS IF HE KNOWS ME AND MY STORY

No one humiliates me like that and gets away with it. As if he knows what ive gone through. He made fun of the fact the he had that information. I cannot believe he could even remember that far back. I will show him who I really can be and that he truly made an enemy of me today. It is time to bring back my roots and run the compit-

I heard a rustle at my window that stopped me from writing in my journal. I stood from my desk and opened the blinds, a matchbox. "Basso." I said with an eye roll.

The box said said two words. "Clock-tower maintenance"

I was confused at Bassos instructions, and sat back down to finish writing.

To cut this entry short it seems I have a daylight job to do, until next time.

-Endy

I grabbed my cloak and my tools and slipped out into the gloomy early morning and headed for the Clock Tower Plaza for whatever mysterious job I had to do in the maintenance room of the clock tower.

So like I said more just getting to know our lovely personable Endy kind of chapter. There is still much to learn about her and I hope you guys will stick with it and learn more about her and what I have instore for my two favorite thieves!
