"Hey Allen I…" Lavi said coming back around the corner to the classroom.
"What's going on here?" Lavi asked seeing Allen's desk had been pushed from where it sat moments ago while the girl from earlier hovered over him. Lavi moved closer and noticed a red mark on Allen cheek.
"You hit him." Lavi said quickly turning his gaze to the girl.
"I… no…" She stuttered.
"This is bullshit… Allen come with me." Lavi said grabbing Allen by the arm dragging him out of the classroom shoving the girl out of the way in the process.
"Wait Lavi…Wait." Allen said struggling to keep up with Lavi's pace tripping a bit as the taller male dragged him.
"What!" Lavi said a bit harshly coming to a stop looking back at Allen still holding his arm.
"Um… All my stuff is still in the classroom..." Allen said.
"You can get it later. What happened back there?" Lavi asked dropping Allen's arm and turning around to face him.
"They wanted to know who you were." Allen said straightening himself.
"So why did she hit you?" Lavi asked.
"I don't really know…What did you come back for?" Allen asked.
"I forgot to tell you to wait for me at the gate when school was over."
"Oh, that's all?" Allen asked. "You could have just texted me." Allen said slight smirk on his lips.
"Well I figured I was still nearby so I would just tell you in person." Lavi replied. "And it seems like I came at the right time. Why did you let her do that to you?"
"It's not like I just let her. I didn't have time to react when it happened. And even then, I'm not going to hit a girl Lavi." Allen said. Placing his hands on his hips.
"I didn't say you should hit her back!" Lavi defended crossing his arms and leaning toward Allen.
"What are we going to do now?" Allen questioned.
"Well I was supposed to be helping my GiGi with something." Lavi said standing straight and shrugging.
"Could I maybe tag along?" Allen asked.
"I don't see why not it is practically lunch time anyway." Lavi said pulling Allen again towards the history classroom.
"Hey Gigi, hope you don't mind, I brought a friend." Lavi said. Allen followed in behind him.
"He is not supposed to be in here idiot apprentice." Bookman said. "We are working on the lesson for the next class."
"But I couldn't just leave him Gigi! He was in trouble..." Lavi said pouting.
"What do you mean in trouble?" Bookman questioned while glancing their way.
"Ah it's nothing…" Allen said. He pulled on Lavi's shirt shaking his head.
"Uh… Well you see he uh… already ate lunch… yeah! He already ate lunch so he had nowhere to go for lunch….so I made him come keep me company!" Lavi improvised.
"Walker I've seen your transcripts. You're smart listening in won't hurt." Bookman said folding his arms. "Just this once."
"Thank you?" Allen said questioningly.
"I've seen everyone's transcripts so don't feel special." Bookman informed.
"Is that something you should tell me?...I'll just go sit over here while you do your thing sir." Allen said heading over to a nearby desk and making himself comfortable. He fiddled around for a bit until he heard the bell ring signaling that lunch was over and it was time to head to 4th period. P.E. with Lenalee. Since Allen really hadn't eaten he was rather hungry and didn't feel like working hard in class. This didn't go unnoticed by the teacher Coach Tapp.
"Walker! If you aren't feeling well go to the nurse!"
"Yes sir." Allen said heading to the changing room. He really wasn't feeling well. Not eating had made his stomach hurt. Allen made his way to the nurse's office. Once he got there he found himself alone. He decided to search the halls nearby for a vending machine in order to get a snack to hold himself over. Once he acquired said food he made his way back to the nurse's office.
"Ah… Allen! How are you?"
Allen looked up hearing the familiar yet unexpected voice of Komui Lee. What was the principal doing here?
"I had a stomach ache during P.E. so Coach sent me here." Allen said hiding the bag of Chex mix behind his back.
"Well lay down and rest then I will have the nurse come and wake you for the next class." Komui said pointing toward the bed.
"Thank you, sir." Allen said making his way to the bed.
"Rest well." Komui said exiting the room.
Just as promised someone came to get Allen just as the bell rang for him to go to his math class. Mr. Joe was an odd one if he did say so himself. The man just gave off a weird feeling. He seemed popular with the rest of the kids but every once in a while, he would see this look flash across the man's eyes that didn't sit well in his mind. It almost seemed like the man would make it a point to talk to him. Class passed slowly but the day was almost over.
History class. He was just in this room not long ago but somehow it was comforting to be back. He wasn't sure if it was because he would see Lavi again or just the fact that he really liked history but regardless, Allen took a seat at his normal desk and began listening to the old man speak and took notes. Class was soon over and Allen caught a glance from Lavi.
What was that look for? Allen wondered. He made a mental note to ask the red head about it when they met at the school gate.
Allen fought through the crowd making his way to his locker so that he could change out his school books for ones he needed for homework. He also grabbed his bag with his work clothes in it. Once he was situated he closed his locker spinning the lock and pulling to make sure everything was secure. After deeming everything to be ok he spun on his heals headed to the front gate to meet Lavi.
"Hey bean sprout!" Lavi called out to the white-haired boy.
"Lavi." Allen said with a scowl at the jab to his height.
"What..." Lavi says playfully poking Allen's nose. Allen hit Lavi's hand away.
"Don't touch me so casually." Allen said a slight blush dusting his cheeks.
"Sorry I guess I can get pretty touchy feely." Lavi said smiling and shrugging his shoulders. "Any way, we need to decide what we are doing later tonight!" Lavi said attitude changing completely.
"If you don't mind we walk and talk I need to go and drop something off before I get to work tonight." Allen said walking pasted Lavi and out of the school.
"Sure thing lil buddy, where we headed?" Lavi asked rounding the corner following like a puppy just behind Allen.
"This may sound silly but I need to go pay my electric bill. The power was cut off at my place and I haven't had a hot shower in too long for my liking." Allen said looking back at the man.
"You are welcome to come over to my place and shower or whatever you need, I'm sure Gigi wouldn't mind." Lavi said.
"Why thank you Lavi that means so much!" Allen said sarcastically. "I really appreciate the offer but something tells me that you might like it too much if I came over just to shower."
"Ah you hurt me!" Lavi grabbed his chest where his heart was. "Right here."
"I'm sure you will be just fine." Allen said rounding another corner.
"Ooh you have a mean side lil buddy." Lavi said rounding the corner as well.
"I have no idea what you're talking about." Allen said holding his head high.
After a few minutes the pair came to the building where Allen needed to pay his electric bill. He was in and out of the building relatively quickly as it was pretty empty due to it being later in the afternoon and close to closing time.
"So, what are you waning to do tonight when I get off?" Allen asked.
"Well I figured we could go to an arcade or something and play some games."
"That does sound tempting. I haven't been to one in a while." Allen said.
"Alright then it's a date!" Lavi said smiling.
"It's not a date but I will see you there!" Allen retorted.
"It's totally a date!" Lavi said smirking.
"It is not!... Now I need to go to work." Allen said playfully punching the redhead in the arm.
The pair then made their way to The Blackroom Café. Once they reached the doors Allen turned and bowed. While still bowing he picked his head up.
"Well Lavi I must thank you for accompanying me on this journey." Allen said now standing straight.
"Not a problem!" Lavi said bowing himself and playing along with Allen's antics. "I look forward to seeing you after work! Now if you don't mind… I'm actually kinda hungry after that walk so I think I'll grab a bite to eat." Lavi said following the teen into the restaurant.
"Suit yourself." Allen said heading for a bathroom so he could change.
Lavi took a seat at a nearby table while waiting on Allen to finish getting ready and clocking in.
"Hey you…. That section isn't open right now." Kanda said.
"It's going to be soon?" Lavi said looking up from his table to the tall long haired Japanese man.
"And you are?" Kanda snarled.
"The names Lavi!" The redhead said smiling and pointing at himself.
"And who are you?" Kanda said crossing his arms and shifting his weight onto his left foot after dropping a menu on the table.
"Allen's friend." Lavi said as he picked up the menu.
"What ever." Kanda said turning on his heels and heading back to work.
"Not sure what that meant but ok…" Lavi said dropping the menu and looking over to his phone.
"Lavi… is everything ok?" Allen asked coming around the corner dressed in his uniform but adjusting his sleeve on his right arm.
"Doing fantastic lil buddy!" He said putting his elbows on the table then crossing his hands and resting his chin on them.
Despite the slight smile on his face, Allen wasn't sure if he believed the red head.
"Have you already ordered?" Allen asked.
"No not yet."
"Well what can I get you then?" Allen said with a smile.
"Do you know yet what is on special?" Lavi asked.
"Yes, today we have firecracker popcorn shrimp penne pasta, and the chicken fresco." Allen said.
"Oh, both of those sound really good! Which one would you get?" Lavi asked.
"I'd get both." Allen said.
"Both?" Lavi asked.
"Yup!"
"Well then I will have both." Lavi said folding the menu and handing it to Allen.
"Alright coming right up sir!" Allen said taking the menu and heading to the kiosk to send in his order.
After a few minutes Allen came back with some biscuits for Lavi.
"These are really good lil buddy!" Lavi said between bites.
"Thank you! Your food should be up momentarily." Allen said with a smile. He headed to greet his other table. After dropping of the other tables drinks he decided to clean up a bit. There were a few tables he cleaned and straightened up and refilled condiments on before heading to the kitchen to bring Lavi his order.
"Be careful these plates are hot." Allen said setting the food down.
"They aren't the only hot thing around here." Lavi said making a fan motion at his face.
"Excuse me?" Allen asked faltering a bit.
"Nothin' lil buddy I just meant the food looks really good!" Lavi said unrolling his silverware.
"Ok Lavi, please enjoy the food."
"Will do!"
"Hey short stack!" Kanda called to the white-haired boy.
"What Kanda." Allen said teeth gritted and hands clenched by his sides.
"Table A3 needs a drink refill and the screaming brat over at table B5 spilled his food all over the floor so we need a broom." Kanda said tossing a towel Allen's way.
After cleaning the mess and doing his round to check the rest of his tables Allen headed over to Lavi to check on him.
"How's the food?"
"Really good!~ Want a bite?" Lavi said putting a piece of shrimp and pasta on his fork and offering it to the teen.
"Hardly Lavi I'm at work." Allen said and then ate the food off Lavi's fork.
Lavi dropped the fork.
"What happened? You dropped it." Allen said picking the fork up from the floor.
"Well I didn't expect you to actually take a bite so it surprised me!"
"Well… I will not say no to food, Lavi."
"Alrighty then I'll remember that." Lavi said.
Did he just wink? Lavi thought.
"I'll go get you another one so you can finish eating." Allen said waving the fork.
"Sure thanks." Lavi said smiling.
The rest of the night went smoothly and Lavi had left shortly after finishing his food. Allen and Kanda were now cleaning up for the night.
"Hey bean sprout…. plans." Kanda said coming up to Allen and crossing his arms while leaning on his right leg.
"Excuse me?" Allen said mimicking the pose.
"You heard me brat!" Kanda said leaning in till he was eye level from Allen their faces inches apart. "Or are your ears to small."
"Are you trying to make plans with me right now?" Allen asked bewildered.
"Not really." Kanda said unfolding his arms and spinning around to talk away.
"Ah... wait!" Allen said faltering and reaching his hand out in a futile attempt at grabbing Kanda's arm. "I think I was going to try to hang out with Lavi. If you're not busy you are welcome to join?" Allen said dropping his arm and standing tall.
"What's in it for me?" Kanda said spinning back around landing in his pose again this time his right hand resting on his hip.
"I can invite girls!" Allen said crossing his arms and closing one eye while tilting his head back triumphantly.
"Ha like you know girls." Kanda said throwing his head back and smirking.
"I do!" Allen said clenching both fists both eyes now fully open and glaring at Kanda. "You do not have to join. I can just enjoy their company without you." Allen said turning away and resuming his cleaning.
"Che…if you insist I guess I'll tag along." Kanda said turning his head to the left, nose up.
"Good then I will be seeing you shortly." Allen said heading off to collect his belongings.
Allen grabbed his things from his locker and headed out to meet up with Lavi. Upon exiting the building, he found said person waiting for him already. He was leaned up against the stair rails looking at his phone the other hand in his pocket.
"Ah! Lavi!" Allen said heading the man's way.
"Allen!" Lavi said shoving his phone in his pocket and standing tall.
"I hope you don't mind but I invited someone else to come along." Allen said coming up to the man. Lavi observed his appearance. He was holding his jacket in his right hand which was resting by his side and his left hand was holding his backpack strap on his shoulder. He was still in his work uniform. He must have been really excited about hanging out that he forgot to change. Lavi didn't particularly mind though. After all he thought the outfit looked quite good on him.
"No prob buddy." Lavi said smiling to the younger.
"He should be right out." Allen said looking back towards the front doors to the restaurant. As soon as he did so Kanda walked out. "Ah Kanda over here!" Allen waived, jacket still in hand."
"Sup Kanda." Lavi asked.
"Che was bored and wanted to kill time. So, what are we doing." Kanda asked.
"We were thinking about going to an arcade somewhere and playing some games." Lavi said.
"Oh right! I need to call the girls!" Allen said grabbing his phone. He walked away from the two males so that they may free talk without interrupting his conversation.
"So the brat really does know girls." Kanda said.
"Yeah I think he hangs out with a few." Lavi returned.
"Alright guys Lena is down!" Allen yelled back at the two. Lavi gave a thumbs up in response smiling.
"So how long have you two known each other?" Lavi asked trying to make conversation.
"I'm not good with small talk." Kanda said ending the conversation. He then reached into his pocket and grabbed a cigarette and lit it.
"Those aren't good for you." Lavi stated.
"Don't care." Kanda retorted. Allen came running back over.
"I couldn't get ahold of anyone else. Looks like it will just be us three plus Lena." Allen said upon his return.
"Sweet how long till she gets here? Or are we meeting her somewhere?" Lavi asked.
"I just told her to meet us at the arcade." Allen replied.
"Sounds good! Let's head out!" Lavi said smiling. The three headed towards the nearest arcade.
About thirty minutes after the guys got there Lenalee showed up.
"Allen!" Lenalee screamed running up and hugging the teen.
"Lenalee! So good to see you! Glad you could make it!" Allen said hugging the girl.
"Of course! I would miss an opportunity to hang out with you!" She said.
"Hello!" Lavi said waiving.
"Ah Lena this is Lavi, He is the history teachers' son!" Allen said motioning to Lavi. "Lavi this is Lenalee Li the younger sister or Komui Li the school Director." Allen said motioning to the Chinese girl.
"Nice to meet you!" She said with a smile. "And this is?" She asked turning to Kanda.
"This is Kanda my co-worker." Allen said motioning Kanda's way.
"Kanda….nice to meet you." She said smirking.
"Che." The Japanese replied.
"You have to forgive him, he is a man of few words." Allen said. "Would it kill you to be nice for once?" Allen asked the man.
"Maybe." Kanda replied.
"I'm sure it would." Allen replied.
"Oh yeah prove it!" Kanda said glaring at him.
"Oh I will!" Allen said glaring back. All of a sudden Lavi and Lenalee burst out laughing.
"What's so funny!" The two said in unison now looking at the two laughing.
"Allen I've never seen you act like this!" Lenalee said between giggles.
"Yeah lil buddy I didn't think that you would also have this kind of personality." Lavi chimed in.
"Well I can act however I so choose." Allen said turning away from the group and crossing his arms.
"Of course you can Allen." Lenalee said coming over to hug him from behind. "Now stop pouting and let's have some fun!" She said pulling Allen and Kanda by the arms as Lavi followed.
