It had been five years since the defeat of the Fire Lord, and they had all grown older. Aang himself had turned 18 just a few months prior. And at the moment, they were travelling to a small village in the Earth Kingdom, where Suki had led them to under almost no explanation. Although Zuko had been worried, Toph had insisted on going.

They called him, the Avatar killer. A simple name yet it carries so much weight in its words. It was by his decision, that the Avatar was slain. To create the world anew, and quell all asunder. The killer knew what he was doing, but has he succeeded? Special thanks to Kkachi95 for the art.

Nobody knows what happened to the past Avatar, it's believed that he was never reborn and the cycle's broken. But after a hundred years, my brother and I meet a firebender named Zuko, the ancient banished Fire Prince and the missing Avatar for the past century. He has some attitude issues to solve along with mastering the four elements but... I believe Zuko can save the world.

As the eldest son of the chieftain he was tasked with protecting the village & his younger siblings Sokka & Katara. After their mother's death too much changed. To keep his remaining family safe he had to close off his heart and train relentlessly. The Avatar wasn't coming back. Or at least, that's what Ayaan thought, until a bald kid with blue arrows showed up.

Zuko tries to stop his father from sending the new recruits to battle at Ba Sing Se. He fails, Lu Ten is dead, and as a consolation prize, Zuko is burned. When his father is forced to kill him, the mother he adored disappeared into the night instead to save his life. Now Zuko has more scars than meets the eye, so he runs, and buries his burdens behind a mask of blue and white.

This was inspired by ATLA, specifically the Season 2 Finale. The story follows the Gaang in alternate storyline where Zuko finds the right path sooner. At "The Cross Roads of Destiny" Zuko decides to join Team Avatar after connecting with Katara over the loss of their mothers. Katara sees that Zuko has just been lost up until this point and uses the spirit water on his scar.

The act of killing a person, in my experience, is quick. You spend more time running from it and even more time agonizing over it after. Could I have done something different? Am I a bad person? Help me, I'm sinking. Stay away, you don't understand. Sozin's comet has passed. Ozai has passed and Aang has to pick up the broken pieces of himself.

Zuko succeeds in capturing the Avatar. Yes! His life's goal has been accomplished! But what seems like a blessing may really be a curse. Now that he has no Avatar to chase, Zuko can't keep running from his past, or from a certain someone who refuses to be forgotten...

So this is just for fun. AU, non-canon, whatever you want to call it. Not to be taken seriously in any way, shape, or form. Katara buys a cursed trinket at the market. Not that she believes in curses, mind you, but it does all seem to go downhill from there.
