A/N: hey you guys. lol finally updated. What do you guys think of season five so far? I have to admit I'm kind of disappointed. More triangle crap, which bores me to death. I thought they would at least delay more triangle drama until the midseason but I guess that was too much to hope for. I am liking the originals however. The story is much more consistent and put together than TVD, where some plots disappear for a few episodes and then they come back randomly. Bonnie needs to come back soon. Too bad no Kol. Not that I was actually expecting it. :'(
Hurricane
The silence was deafening. And awkward, to say the least. Bonnie was trying to concentrate on the road but she kept switching glances between Kol beside her and Jeremy in the rear view mirror. Kol looked relatively relaxed, all things considered, while Jeremy appeared to be staring daggers at Kol.
"So what exactly did you see then?"
Bonnie sighed inwardly. She was trying hard enough to push the images out of her mind and Kol wanted to pry them out of her.
Revealing the extent of her vision was out of the question- that would just lead to more questions. Bonnie was not the type to spurt out all of her feelings and this instance certainly fell in that category. She liked things private, and tended to avoid getting sympathy from others. Part of it, she acknowledged, was a result of the independence she had attained at such a young age. Her parents had never really been around growing up so she had been forced to be self-sufficient and had developed the habit of keeping things to herself. Only with those she was closest to-namely Jeremy, Elena, and Caroline, did she pour more of her feelings out there.
She muttered nonchalantly, "Oh, just small details. I just got a feeling he's by the river."
"You seemed a lot more confident just a moment before." His black eyes had narrowed skeptically.
"Yeah well, I got a good look at the area. But it was only a second," she burst out. "I recognized it, that's all." Bonnie could have laughed. She was lying through her teeth. She could feel herself being drawn in the right direction; the place wasn't familiar in the slightest. She had been in such a trance, it had felt like she was there. The details were so acute that, perhaps on some level, she had been.
"That's it, there's the sign." She nodded to the sign about a hundred meters ahead on the right side. Fish Creek Falls 2 Miles. She assumed that was it anyways. There couldn't be that many waterfalls in the area.
Bonnie sped up. She knew Stefan would be okay physically, at least eventually, but mentally, that was another story.
Hopefully Elena wasn't freaking out.
In the vehicle behind Bonnie's, the woman in question was following her closely.
Internally, Damon kept rehearsing the last words he had said to Stefan. Thanks brother. Although he acknowledged that his brother could be one tough sonofabitch at times, he couldn't help but let his wayward thoughts take him to dark places. Simply knowing his brother was in trouble was enough to make him worry. What if Stefan had been here the whole time? That was almost two months ago. Damon couldn't help but think what would happen if they didn't find him. He had faith in the little witch, but negative thoughts could instantly take over.
When Damon looked over at Elena he instantly squashed any wayward thinking. This was not the time. Any weakness on his part would transfer over to Elena. Damon could feel the tension surrounding her. Not only had she not said a word to him, but her eyes were glued to the back of Bonnie's car and she was gripping the steering wheel tightly.
Damon said slowly, "Ease off a bit, you're not gonna lose her you know."
For the first time since being in the vehicle, Elena looked at him. Her eyes showed a combination of distress and concern.
Her voice had a slight tremor. "I know I just-" she broke off and let out a shuddered breath. "If something happened to him I-"
"I know." He answered. "We'll find him." His eyes bored into hers. She grasped his hand, inadvertently seeking the comfort she knew he would give.
"We'll find him," he repeated. It seemed he needed convincing as much as she did.
Bonnie turned off onto the dirt road. Her anxiety was increasing tenfold now. Her spine remained rigid, her forehead was perspiring in concentration.
She stopped when she found a makeshift parking lot. It wasn't large but could probably fit around four vehicles. Bonnie parked to the very right to allow room for Elena and Damon.
Bonnie inhaled deeply. Her heart started racing. She tried to ignore her apprehension and met Kol's eyes. Although his facial expression was neutral, his eyes were steadily watching her.
Ignoring his stare, she got out of the car and headed towards Elena and Damon who were exiting the SUV.
Damon's mouth was set in grim lines.
"What is it?" Bonnie asked.
"This is close to where I took Vaughn when the Veil was down."
"So?" Elena asked quickly.
He looked at her purposely. "I think this is where Stefan planned to drop Silas' body."
Elena turned to Bonnie. "Can you sense where he is?"
"I think so." This was the part she dreaded. Feeling Stefan's pain once again. There had been no reprieve for him. It was a recurrent cycle of drowning and healing.
Bonnie walked towards the center of the clearing where rays of sunlight reached the ground. Channeling the powers of the sun was becoming second nature to her. It was a pure, raw form of energy that felt endless, not to mention exhilarating on an impressive scale, at least compared to the type of magic she had used when she had first started practicing magic.
Bonnie centered her thoughts on Stefan. She ignored the whispers of her friends and the sound of car doors slamming. She ignored the distant sounds of birds chirping and the smell of pinewood. The breeze was nothing compared to the waves of light touching her skin. It gave her renewed vigour. She focused all of her energy on Stefan, his soul, even his pain.
Her stomach lurched in shock. Visions assaulted her with intense clarity. The familiar feeling of Stefan drowning nauseated Bonnie. She saw the outside of the box- the depth of the water, the harsh sounds from the falls close by, the cool temperature touching her skin. Her feet took her of their own accord. The images never lowered in severity. It was an invasion of her senses. Her sight remained unused, and yet she still knew where she was going. Her magic was leading her. She walked slowly but steadily.
The sound of snapping branches followed her.
Suddenly, the jarring sounds of the waterfall became all too real.
Bonnie awoke from her trance-like state. She found herself at the edge of the river. Her feet were perched on the rocky shore.
"Well?"
Damon's voice asked quickly behind her. She turned to look at him. Elena and Jeremy were staring at her in consternation. Kol's face was unreadable.
"He's here," she replied quietly. She tried to keep the tremor out of her voice.
"Where?" he asked impatiently.
"Damon," Elena's voice warned. "Just give her time."
Bonnie once again attuned herself to Stefan's location. Ignoring the horror-filled images of his plight, she put all of her attention on his exactly location. Her head swivelled sharply to the right.
She pointed to the waterfall a few hundred feet to the right. "We'll have to go up the rocky edge to get close."
Without any notice, Damon grabbed her arm and dragged her at an astonishing speed. Trees and bushes flew by her and within a few seconds, they stopped. Bonnie almost collapsed on the ground.
"A little warning would have been nice," she muttered. They were now on the edge of the rocky face, a few hundred feet above the river and extremely close to the waterfall.
"Oh please," he retorted. "As if you can't handle it."
Kol made his appearance right after. He looked slightly agitated but didn't make a comment.
Within a few seconds, everyone else had caught up. Elena had held onto Jeremy so that he wouldn't be left behind.
Bonnie looked down into the water below. Damon looked down skeptically. "Are you sure it's down there witchy?"
Bonnie nodded. She had never been more sure of anything.
Damon seemed to register this by nodding to himself. In an instant, he had jumped off the cliff into the dark depths hundreds of feet below.
Everyone looked down at his disappearing figure.
Bonnie wanted to know the instant Damon found Stefan. She used her empathetic abilities and put all of her focus on Stefan's feelings. For the first time, she found herself actually in the container. If she thought it was agonizing before, that was nothing. Stefan's thoughts were overwrought in torment, his thought processes unclear. He didn't appear coherent. The words kept appearing in her mind. Let me die. His desperation for the pain to end was the only clear message she could discern.
Bonnie tried to reach a message to him amongst his jumbled thoughts. It's gonna be alright. We're here.
The mental concentration required was exhausting her but she refused to be weak at this point. A part of her acknowledged she wouldn't last much longer, even with the aid of Nature's resources. Damon had to have found him by now.
I'll help you.
Kol was watching Bonnie closely. She had inadvertently closed her eyes and didn't seem to be aware of her surroundings.
She's going to kill herself. He could feel her dwindling energy. Although she still had a slight glow, her skin was starting to turn pallid, her face grimacing in pain.
Stupid witch. He should just let her continue this idiotic notion of sacrificing herself for her friends. She had told him she would change but that obviously wasn't going to be the case right now. Her fixation with martyrdom was beginning to get tiresome.
A moment later, Damon burst from the surface of the water below, sans his Salvatore brother.
Elena shouted down, "What happened? Where is he?!" her voice sounded panicky.
Damon's voice reeked of frustration. "There is a large container. I can't get into it though! The door is facing downward and I can't move it. It's the water, too much weight."
When Kol turned to glance at Bonnie, he sensed a change in her. As if she was aware of their words, she lifted her arms up, and a flare of energy burst from her and went downward into the murky depths. When he looked at her face, he gaped. Her eyes. They were emitting a blue tinge.
The instant her energy ricocheted off the water, it parted in huge waves until the rocky bottom could be seen. Against the rocky edges, the water rose to a towering level- only a few feet below the top of the cliff. Since Damon was in the water, he was flung into the wall but managed to grasp onto the branches
"Oi! There it is!" Kol shouted to Damon. He pointed towards the large black safe that could now be seen without all of the water covering it. The safe was slightly rusted and covered in mildew and algae.
"Hurry!" Kol motioned to Bonnie. "There is a time limit you know!"
Damon's still figure broke into action at that comment. He jumped a few hundred feet and landed crouched onto the safe.
Kol went to stand beside Bonnie. He could see that her whole body was trembling. Her energy was dissipating at a rapid rate. Something was wrong. Kol was internally debating whether or not to stop her. She clearly didn't know her limits and this ability of hers was staggering. She wasn't just a slave to fire any longer, but water. Who knew what other elements she could manipulate? He vaguely wondered if she was even aware of what she was doing.
Damon had now turned over the safe. He was trying to pry the door off but was struggling.
There's no time left!
Kol glanced back at Bonnie. She was barely standing. He went and shook Bonnie by the shoulders. "You're gonna kill yourself you twat!" Bonnie didn't even flinch. Her eyes were glazed and looked passed him as if he wasn't there.
Kol let go and turned his back to her. "Get him out of there!" he yelled down to the water.
In a flash, all hell broke loose.
Bonnie's still figure swayed and fell forward in exhaustion. Unfortunately, that meant off the cliff. However, before Bonnie could tumble into the waters, Kol grabbed her arm in reflex. He lifted her in his arms and gently placed her on the ground further back from the edge. Whatever magic had been barring the water was now gone, which meant it returned in a dull roar atop the safe. Kol jumped into the water just as the giant waves flowed atop Damon and the safe.
Within a few moments the water had stilled, as if the last few minutes were just a dream.
"Damon!" Elena cried out in anguish.
Jeremy quickly crouched beside Bonnie. "Wake up!"
He shook her shoulders. "Wake up Bonnie!"
Bonnie's eyes burst open. They were slowly reverting back to their normal hazel-green colour.
Bonnie rasped, "What happened?"
"You don't remember?" Jeremy asked cautiously.
"No-" she paused, "I just remember reaching out to Stefan and that's it."
"You don't remember playing Moses?" Jeremy asked.
"Moses, what are you-?" Bonnie was frowning.
Elena cut them off. "You guys look!" She pointed down below. Damon surged in a flurry of moment from the water. An instant later, Kol's figure followed, carrying what looked to be a carcass.
"Oh no. No. No." Elena was murmuring. "Please no."
Kol landed atop the cliff a few feet away from them.
"Stefan!" Elena kneeled down next to his lifeless body.
"Relax Gilbert." Kol stated calmly. "He'll be fine, physically anyway, it'll probably take a few hours to heal. However, this," he paused and tapped his head, "might take a while longer."
Bonnie sat up slowly and looked at Stefan. His skin was an ashen gray and looked to be made of stone, his eyes were open but they were sunken in despair. Bonnie would have thought him dead were it not for the stare he returned to Bonnie. His eyes were the only part of him moving. Mildew covered his body and his clothes were ragged and torn. Sympathy burst through Bonnie in waves. She couldn't imagine the suffering he had gone through in the last two months.
Damon handed Elena a blood bag. "Give this to him."
Elena placed the bag up to Stefan's mouth. "Stefan, you need to drink."
Initially, it was Elena dropping the blood into Stefan's mouth but after a few minutes his lips started to make the effort to drink it himself. In just a few seconds, he had consumed the entire bag.
Damon gave another bag. "We'll see how he is with this one."
Stefan finished the second bag in half the time as the first one.
Damon was going to hand over a third one when Kol stopped him. He raised his arm and said, "Leave it. He's got enough."
Damon's voice was irritated. "He can barely move. He needs more-"
"No, he doesn't. Give him a few minutes. You should know better than anyone how he'll react. I'd rather not deal with a psychotic blood starved vampire, thank you."
Damon seemed to be considering that. Bonnie understood If Stefan had too much blood at once, he could lose control.
Kol continued, "It will have to be in small increments for the next few days. Until he's completely back to normal."
They waited a few minutes until Stefan had the energy to lift his head and arms up.
Kol nodded. "That'll do."
Damon crouched beside Stefan and manoeuvred him so that he carried him piggy-back. Damon stood up. "Let's get the hell out of here."
Elena seized Jeremy's arm. "I hope I don't regret this," she muttered.
She turned to Kol. "I'm trusting you to take of her. Stefan needs us and-"
Kol cut her off with a raised arm. "If you can handle your half-crazed boyfriend, oh sorry ex-boyfriend-" he smirked at this, "-then I believe I can handle one little witch."
The four of them disappeared. Not without one last glare from Elena and Damon.
Now only Bonnie and Kol remained.
"You shouldn't be saying that to them you know."
"Saying what?"
"All the Elena and Stefan stuff."
His eyes were disbelieving."You're joking right? If they can't handle a few comments, their relationship is doomed already."
She looked forlorn. "It's just that I don't how rocky her and Damon can be. I'm not exactly Damon's number one fan but I don't want things to end badly, especially now that Stefan is back."
She slowly stood up. Her body started swaying again and Kol immediately grabbed her shoulder.
"Foolish witch," he growled.
"I guess I went a bit overboard, huh?" she replied weakly.
"I'd say so. Enough talk about the doppelganger drama. It's almost vomit-inducing." He shuddered and then looked down at her. "Spectacular show, by the way." He continued sarcastically, "Next time fireworks would be a great addition."
She looked at him closely. "What exactly happened?"
He glanced sharply at her. "You mean you don't know?" He was incredulous. It figures she wouldn't remember.
"You turned that river into your own Red Sea. Quite a sight, I have to admit."
"You mean I moved the water?!"
"None of that rings a bell?"
She shook her head. "No, the last thing I remember was trying to communicate with Stefan."
"You mean telepathically?"
"I guess," she responded slowly. "I could feel what he was feeling. Finding him was like when you hear something and you can tell where the sound is coming from. I just used my magical sense I suppose."
"Have you ever been able to do this?" He was quickly turning serious.
"Well, no." She seemed to realize the significance of this. "Before expression, I relied on the spirits and dabbled in a bit of dark magic but that ended right away. None of it was ever like this. I've never been so aware of everything." Her voice softened. "It's amazing."
"I've been around witches for a long time, and believe me, I've seen some spectacular things, but I've never seen one witch do that." He paused in thought and then sighed, "But you clearly have no control over it. You don't know your limits-"
Bonnie's expression turned irritable. "Wait that's not true. The Sun is acting as my energy source. It's infinite-"
He crossed his arms. "Oh really? Then why did you pass out?"
She frowned. "I don't know. It's not as if I'm draining my body, I felt invincible."
"Well, you're obviously not doing it right."
"How would you know? You're not a witch-"
He made a face. "Thank Heavens for that." He added, "Face the facts: you have no idea what the hell this is. I suggest you lessen the theatrics and concentrate on finding out what this magic even is before you end up killing yourself."
"Don't you think you're being a bit dramatic? It all worked out didn't it?"
Luckily for you, Kol thought. He could easily have let her fall but knew that wasn't an option. He wasn't about to let her life go to waste after all they had done to get it back.
His eyes scanned her face. She looked forlorn and in a bit of shock. It was a marked contrast when he compared it to how she had looked before. Colour was now returning to her cheeks. Her wide green eyes were striking amongst her tawny skin. She really was quite stunning. It was a unique sort of beauty, the kind one didn't notice right away. If he was being honest, he first realized it when she had smiled at him on the Other Side. It had been a tentative smile but when it reached her eyes, she had glowed. Smiles at him were rare so he took what he could get. He ignored the bit of warmth that had spread through him at the time. It was just her radiating warmth. In a way, it was what had drawn him in. Hell, it was probably what was keeping him around. He wouldn't exactly call Mystic Falls a hot spot.
He finally responded. "This time it did. You got lucky witch. Don't count on second chances. They're too rare."
"Is that from experience?" she asked.
If you only knew, he thought inwardly. The tattoo on his back was a constant reminder of the shitty hand life had dealt him hundreds of years back.
She seemed to feel awkward at his expression. She started fidgeting and changed the subject.
"We should get back and follow the others."
He went along with it. "After you then." He waited until she turned away from her before he grasped her arm and took off at an unprecedented speed.
Bonnie's yelp was cut off when Kol clutched her to him.
She lifted her head up from his shoulder and glared at him.
He let out a small laugh. She made it too easy.
Bonnie had definitely had enough of vampire warp speed by the time they got back to her car. They seemed to get off on scaring the daylights out of her.
Elena's SUV was gone. Bonnie headed towards the driver's end up but before she could reach it, Kol blocked her path.
"Don't be daft. I'm driving. Your driving skills notwithstanding, you're completely exhausted." He put up a hand when she opened her mouth to argue. "Don't deny it. You're swaying on your feet darling." In a flash he took her to the passenger side, placed her in the seat, and had her seatbelt done up.
When he got in the driver's side a second later, she retorted, "You know, I think I can handle getting in a car."
"Darling, you can't reverse the hundreds of years of outdated manners instilled in me that easily. Besides, you're so slow, and I'd like to get going if you don't mind."
He turned on the engine and backed out.
His white teeth gleamed when he grinned. "Spoilsport!" he said at her glower. "You've no idea how much I've missed the speed that comes with being a vampire."
His quipping attitude was infectious. Bonnie tried to understand his outlook. Being a vampire, Bonnie could only imagine the thrilling changes that arose from returning to the real world. Bonnie herself was experiencing heightened senses and a dramatic change in her magic, but she didn't have the enhanced physical strength, speed, and thirst for blood that Kol had.
Bonnie was brought out of her thoughts when they reached the main road. He was accelerating.
"Kol!"
He laughed. "Relax. I'm an excellent driver."
"Oh that's comforting." She was clutching her door when they went around a winding turn.
He made a quick glance at her. "Look at me." When she opened her eyes and stared at him, he continued, "You need to learn you can't always be in control."
"It's not control I'm worried about, it's you crashing the car-"
"You can't stand that somebody else may hold your life in their hands-"
She made a scoffing sound. "Believe me, I'm not worried about dying-"
"As long as you're the one causing it." He paused. "Isn't that right?"
She stared at him, disbelieving. Did he really just go there? "You're crazy! Just because I accidentally caused my own death doesn't mean I have a death wish. I love my life and the people in it. Yes, I make risky choices on occasion but they've always been necessary-"
"That's not what I meant." He sighed loudly.
When he didn't continue she said, "Well-" she looked at him expectantly, "-Are you gonna elaborate?"
He seemed to be debating on how to phrase it as if he was trying to not to offend her, which was funny considering almost everything that came out of his mouth was offensive. "You may seem like some sort of wildcard, what with your tendency to rush off and risk your life, but really you're the opposite. I've seen the way you try and take control of every situation. And how it always ends with you in the crosshairs." He waited another moment. "It must drive you insane that you know you can't control your magic-"
She snorted. "If you were a witch, you'd know how difficult it is-"
"Ah-ah, but that's the thing darling. You can try and play it off like that but you don't realize how well I know magic. I've seen it for centuries, and I've never come across anyone like you. You whip out these spells, you try and do everything on intuition but in actual fact, you have no clue on what the hell you're doing." His eyes were glued to the road. "You may successfully pull off spells but that has nothing to do with being a witch. You don't have the relationship with Nature that most witches do. You try and use it and dominate it but that's not the way it works honey."
Bonnie could feel her cheeks redden in defense. "Wha-! No! I do too-" she started but Kol cut her off once again.
"That's another problem. You can't even see it. I imagine it's partly because you haven't had the guidance and you've never been part of a coven. But there's something else. The whole 'helping others' deal." He gave her a knowing look. "Magic's existence is not intended that way. To be fair, it sounds like you've had to face off against a lot of foes so cheers to that-," he gave a motion with his hand before continuing, "-but of course doing so many powerful spells has probably made you lose sight of magic as a balancing agent."
Bonnie immediately wanted to make a defensive comment but a feeling of doubt lingered. Was he right? Kol was a lot older than her and probably knew a lot more about witchcraft than she did. Although she was the one who experienced magic firsthand, that didn't necessarily mean she knew about magical history. The spirits had always lain into her and perhaps this was the reason. Maybe she did look at magic selfishly, maybe she was too subjective. Magic had been forced upon her at such an alarming rate and without Grams she had been forced to figure everything out on her own. Gaining such powerful abilities so quickly, she hadn't had the time to dwell on the consequences or how she felt about magic in general.
Bonnie tried putting the blame on Kol. He was one of the most critical people she had ever met. At least critical of magic anyways. He seemed to poking and prodding at her a lot the last few days. He might have good intentions when doing it, but that didn't mean she had to like it.
Bonnie went back to her train of thought.
Was she out of control?
Bonnie didn't want to agree with that assessment but maybe she was, in a way. She knew that her hatred of showing any kind of weakness would never go away. But being volatile? That was obviously something she could control. She cringed when she looked back on her expression and dark magic moments. Was she like that now?
Bonnie had felt on top of the world on that cliff. The magic had been almost like a high. After letting his words sink in, she now only felt uncertain and hesitant about her abilities.
Since Kol was driving at such an accelerated speed, they caught up with Elena and the others in no time.
They followed them into the boarding house driveway. As soon as everyone parked, they rushed Stefan into the house. Damon put Stefan on a sofa in the living room while Elena went to fetch another pint of blood.
Kol seemed uneager to enter the house but when Bonnie huffed and dragged him inside he gave no reluctance.
When Bonnie took a close look at Stefan, he looked loads better. Colour had returned to his face (what little colour vampires had). He seemed to be slipping in and out of consciousness though. He was mumbling incoherently all the while.
When Elena returned with some blood, Damon crouched beside Stefan's still figure and looked at him closely.
He lightly slapped Stefan's cheek.
"Wake up brother." Although Damon was smirking, his eyes could not conceal his marked concern.
Elena handed Damon the blood and Damon put the cap up to his brother's lips.
"Slowly."
Bonnie had a feeling those words weren't reaching Stefan's ears. He was now grasping the bag himself and lifting it higher to down it faster.
"Oi! I said small increments!" Kol moved forward while gesturing at Stefan.
Damon stood up and turned towards Kol. "Oh relax. He can barely move, this isn't gonna make him ripper or anything-"
"Is this not the brother who goes psychotic when it comes to human blood? From what you've said he's been without blood for months..."
Bonnie tuned them out when they started bickering. Elena started speaking defensively for Damon. They hadn't noticed that Stefan had finished his blood bag and was looking around the room in concentration. His eyes were almost completely red now.
And they landed on her.
Oh shit.
Bonnie really didn't want to migraine his ass. The fact that she was still low on energy wasn't helping.
She looked at Jeremy. His face showed the same worry.
She started, "Kol-" but it was already too late. Stefan had leapt off the sofa and was only a foot away from her before she summoned her old magic.
She was almost afraid it hadn't worked until she looked down at Stefan's kneeling figure. He was clutching his head in agony.
She glared at Damon. "You were saying?"
Bonnie collapsed on one of the sofas after Damon and Kol had taken Stefan away. She couldn't tell but she thought she had heard Damon mutter 'and here I thought we were done with that blasted room', referring to their frequently occupied dungeon cellar.
Elena sat beside her and touched her shoulder.
"Are you alright?" Elena's big dark eyes bore into hers.
Bonnie looked away awkwardly. "Yeah, it's just been a long day."
"I'm sorry, you know. About Stefan I mean. We should have realized-"
"Don't worry about it." Bonnie gave a comforting smile. "You couldn't have known. He's gonna be unpredictable right now." Bonnie grabbed Elena's hand in seriousness. "He'll need you more than ever."
Elena nodded. "I know." She sighed. "Damon may not like it, but he's gonna have to deal."
Kol and Damon returned about half an hour later.
Elena stood up. "What happened?"
Damon did not look happy.
"We have a problem."
"You have got to be joking." Elena's jaw had dropped when they had repeated Stefan's words.
Everyone looked at each other in shock.
"Stefan's a doppelgänger?!" Jeremy said loudly.
"Of Silas?!" Elena added.
Everything seemed so clear now. Why Silas' form in Greece resembled Stefan's. He hadn't needed to pretend to be anyone because he hadn't realized he was being watched. That was his natural form.
"You guys are related to that douche?" Jeremy said to Damon.
Bonnie wanted to laugh at Damon's expression.
Kol interrupted. "Very distant descendants, little Gilbert."
He looked pointedly at Elena. "Obviously the Petrovas are blood-related but the magic of doppelgängers is a lot more volatile and varied than other magic. The Petrova doppelgängers were instigated with the creation of us, but Silas' doppelgängers could apply to an entirely different area of magic."
Damon grumbled, "You mean there are a bunch of Stefans out there?"
Kol smirked knowingly, "In two millennia, you honestly didn't think your brother would be the first?" He motioned to Elena, "There's already been two more of her in a thousand years." He paused. "I wouldn't worry about having to compete with even more Stefans for dear Elena's love-the chances are nil that they've become vampires like your brother."
Elena looked offended at that last comment but she was prevented from retorting when Damon replied.
"While it's all fine and dandy that there is only one copy of my brother, it would be really great if someone could tell me, how I can kill this copy."
"What a role reversal for you." Kol put his thumb and forefinger to his chin mockingly. "First I tell you to not raise Silas and now you want my help with killing him. If you had just listened to me-"
"Kol." Bonnie cut in and sighed. Hadn't they been over this?
Kol glared at her for a moment before speaking again.
"Unfortunately for you, I have no idea how to get rid of him." He looked meaningfully at Bonnie.
She huffed. "If we want to find out anything, we're going to have to go to Whitmore."
A/N: I'm sorry it took so long to update. I hate making excuses but school and work have been a bugger and I went on vacation in august. Hopefully it won't be nearly as long for the next update. And yes, Bonnie is being very submissive at this point in the story. It's kind of like one step forward two steps back. She's gonna grow but it's going to take a while. I can't wait until she gets more of a backbone. Season 1-2 bonnie was great but I have to work with her season 4 character, which kind of sucks.
