Chapter Thirty Eight

Lily could hear them in the other room, the whispered sounds of people getting ready just beyond the door. She knew that Elena was changing from her wedding dress, into the dress she'd wear for the rest of the reception. Everyone was pretending to ignore the slight roundness to Elena's body, proof that she and Damon hadn't waited until their wedding night to come together as one. Lily giggled at the thought, as if their almost 14 year old daughter hadn't been proof enough.

Caroline had been beautiful, Theron by her side dressed in a sharp suit. Even Scorpius had stood as handsome as could be beside Damon on their special day. Elena has asked Lily to be her matron of honor, but she'd declined. She hadn't wanted to spoil Elena's day, and Lily knew that Elena's cousin had been dying to be the maid of honor. If Lily's declination had bothered Elena, she didn't make mention to it.

Lily heard the door open to the bathroom, Elena shuffling to one of the stalls. Lily grinned. Scorpius had let it slip that Damon and Elena were having a boy. Lily was thrilled for them, and for Gentry who'd be getting a baby brother to share his last name.

"You in here?" Elena asked.

"Yep," Lily called back.

"You've been in here a while," Elena chatted through the stall wall.

"I just need one more minute," Lily promised. She couldn't keep the grin out of her voice. She glanced at the stick. She giggled slightly and passed it under the wall for Elena.

"Is this- oh, oh my gosh, LILY!" Elena squealed jumping up and flinging her stall open. Lily joined her on the outside. Elena squeals were ear-shattering, Lily grinning like a fool. They embraced, Elena's voice echoing to the point of deafening noise. Caroline poked her head in to look at them.

"Mum? Aunt Lily?" Caroline pushed all the way into the bathroom. "Is everything okay?"

"Okay? Everything is fantastic," Elena promised. She pulled Caroline in for a hug.

"Keep it a secret, for now," Lily shushed Caroline as her eyes fell on the stick.

"Theron's getting-"

"Shh!" Elena and Lily giggled, nodding.

"Oh, I hope it's a girl!" Elena grinned.

"Shhh!" Lily urged.

"We should go, they're ready for you, Mum," Caroline urged, a grin plastered on her face. They joined the others, Lily taking her seat by Draco. She set her purse on the table, the test hidden behind the beading and fabric.

"It was a beautiful wedding," Draco commented.

"Yes, it was," Lily nodded. "And a long time coming."

"How have you been? I haven't seen much of you since-"

"I've been busy," Lily explained. She looked at her toddler son, dressed in a tiny suit, toddling around. Damon's mother was behind him, ready to catch him if he fell. Gentry was lucky to have such an extended family.

"The children? Are they okay?" Lily asked as she pushed herself off the ground. Marshall tried to keep her from sitting up, but she pushed back until she was able to.

"They're fine," Draco promised. "Tina signaled for me immediately, and we traced your apparation trail here."

"As long as they're okay," Lily sighed, falling back exhausted. Marshall had his arms around her holding her up.

"Lily why would you do this?" Scorpius demanded, crawling toward her. His face was inches from hers, holding her face. He kissed her. "You can't do this to me."

"I'm sorry," Lily whispered as he kissed her gently.

"What happened to him?" Draco asked, nudging the body of the minister. Lily didn't glance at him, just shrugged. Damon pulled Lily's wand from his pocket and handed it to her. Lily held it in her hand for a moment and store it away.

"Take her home," Draco told them. "I'll deal with him."

"Okay," Scorpius nodded once. He and Marshall lifted her up off the ground, Scorpius pulling her into her arms. Lily rested her head against his shoulder, burying her face in his neck.

"I've missed you so much," Scorpius breathed as he kissed her forehead. Damon landed beside them, followed by Marshall. The four of them walked back up to the apartment.

"Let me down," Lily urged. "It'll scare the kids if I can't walk in here on my own."

"But Lily-" Marshall protested. Scorpius shook his head at the other man and lowered her to the floor.

"We probably should have cleaned you up a bit," Scorpius suggested. They looked at Marshall who sighed as he pulled out his wand and siphoned the blood off of her.

"Better?" Lily asked forcing a smile.

"Yes," Marshall nodded. They pushed their way into the apartment, the kids crying. Theron pushed away from Elena and Caroline, running into his mother's outstretched arms.

"We didn't know if you'd be okay," Theron buried his face into his mother's neck.

"Dad and Uncle Damon got to me just in time," Lily answered, brushing her son's hair out of his face. Theron looked at his dad, embracing him before turning to Damon.

"Thank you both," Theron pulled away. He looked at Caroline meaningfully.

"Caroline?"

"No," Caroline shook her head once.

"Caroline, I don't even care what we promised," Theron's voice was forcible. He took Damon by the hand, dragging the confused man across the apartment.

"Theron," Lily warned weakly.

"It's okay, Mum," he promised. "I know-"

"What?"

"Uncle Damon, I'd like you to meet Caroline, your daughter," Theron announced. Elena looked at Lily.

"You promised you wouldn't say anything!" Elena cried out as Damon stood dumb-struck.

"She didn't, Mum. I told Theron myself," Caroline's voice was delicate, soft. She stood, the likeness unmistakable.

"How did you know?" Elena asked. Caroline grinned.

"Mum, as much as you loved Damon, it wasn't hard to see that we're father and child," Caroline offered. She looked at Damon expectantly.

"You're my... child? Why didn't you say anything, Elena?" Damon asked in surprise.

"Does it matter? What done is done, man," Scorpius laughed. "Now, hug your daughter and greet her mother properly."

"We were quite the mess as kids," Elena pointed out with an almost shy smile. "I'm no Lily-"

"You're so much better," Damon breathed, embracing Caroline and Elena at the same time. Lily smiled from where she stood, still leaning between Marshall and Scorpius.

"What are you thinking about, Mrs. Malfoy?" a whispered question from behind had Lily looking up at Scorpius with a grin.

"Just thinking," Lily promised as she accepted a kiss from her husband.

"Regret we didn't have a big shindig like this?" he pressed as he offered her his hand to rise and dance.

"Nope," Lily replied honestly. She glanced over at Elena, grinning like a Cheshire cat. Damon's own face masked that same look as he made eyes with them.

"Damon sure seems happy," Scorpius laughed.

"Yeah," Lily giggled as she felt his arms circle her.

"A boy, you heard right?" Scorpius asked as he and Lily danced around the dance floor.

"I did hear. I'm excited for them both," Lily rested her head against his shoulder, glancing at Caroline and Theron playing with Gentry. Both of them grinned and gave her a thumbs up. Lily laughed, knowing that Caroline had probably told Theron right away. They were best friends, with a brother in common. Lily didn't know if they'd blossom into more, but she wasn't going to worry about it.

"I'm happy for them," Scorpius breathed into her ear. "It happened pretty quickly."

"They're in love," Lily pointed out. The two of them looked at the other couple who danced near them.

"Mind a trade?" Damon asked with a twinkle in his eye.

"Just for the dance," Scorpius grinned. "You look lovely, Elena."

"What about me?" Damon fake pouted as he handed Elena's hand to Scorpius and took Lily's hand.

"You look lovely, too," Scorpius taunted. "Take care of my girl, and I'll take care of yours."

"And my boy?" Damon teased as he slid his arms around Lily's waist.

"Family," Scorpius winked. Lily watched him dance off with the woman who should have slid into the role of wife when her sister died, to the woman who was carrying Damon's baby. But Scorpius had chosen her, despite all of the trials and tribulations, she'd got him in the end.

"Penny for your thoughts?" Damon asked as he drew her against him, swaying.

"Just thinking," Lily grinned.

"So, you're going to tell him right away right?" Damon whispered in her ear.

"About?" Lily laughed. Damon slid his hand over her stomach briefly, making it look like he was pulling her close for a second before putting some space between them. Lily smirked.

"Elena told you, huh?" Lily grinned. Damon looked away for a second.

"She confirmed it, but I already suspected," Damon confessed.

"I only suspected this morning!" Lily exclaimed. A few people glanced over at her curiously, but she giggled and shook her head. "I'm not going to take away from your night."

"Believe me," Damon laughed, nudging her chin up. "Ours is this big, untraditional family. It's only fitting."

"I wonder if he'll be okay with it," Lily mentioned as the song came to an end and Scorpius was escorting Elena back over toward them.

"He will be," Damon promised.

"How do you know?" Lily pressed.

"I just do," he said as he kissed her cheek and took Elena's hand, pulling her into a deep kiss that had quite a few people cat-calling. Scorpius took Lily's hand as another song keyed up, pulling her close as the slow music surrounded them.

"This is nice," Lily mentioned.

"It is," he admitted as he pulled her a little closer. "You know, Dad's taking Theron, Caroline, and Gentry home for the night."

"He didn't mention it-"

"They look lovely," Scorpius cut her off.

"That they do," Lily confirmed.

"Elena's always been pretty, but pregnancy really has her glowing," Scorpius watched the two of them kissing briefly, eyes for only each other. "Maybe we should think about it."

"About what, Scorpius?" Lily asked as his hand pressed firmly into the small of her back, relieving the slight ache that was taking up there. "Ah, that feels so much better."

"I knew it would," he teased her. He brushed his lips against hers. "I was thinking we should have one more child."

"I have been, too," Lily giggled. Scorpius pulled back from where he was nuzzling her neck.

"You, too?" he asked. Lily nodded once.

"Before we get too old," Lily shrugged slightly.

"When were you thinking we should start trying?" Scorpius asked. Lily clutched her purse slightly, a nervous grin on her face.

"Well, you know... I've not been feeling the greatest lately," Lily pointed out.

"Yeah, that weird food-poisoning only you got, Lily?" Scorpius smirked, his eyebrow cocked up slightly.

"Yes, well... that..." Lily hesitated. Scorpius grinned.

"You know, Lily. You can tell me anything," Scorpius taunted. He touched her side slightly, tracing the curve of her hip.

"You know, don't you?" Lily burst out. Scorpius grinned.

"I know what, Lily?" Scorpius teased. She looked at the way his eyes were sparkling with laughter at her and she shook her head, a grin on her face. They headed out to the balcony of the reception hall, alone for the moment.

"I only found out a bit ago! How am I the last to know?" Lily demanded. He grinned and kissed her.

"You're going to have to say it, Lily," Scorpius teased. "I'm not a mind reader."

"Scorpius," Lily chastised.

"Lily," he mimicked.

"I took a test a bit ago," Lily sighed. Scorpius was grinning.

"Oh, really?" he whispered in her ear.

"Yes," Lily pressed against him, trapping him between her body and the rail. He swallowed slightly, the smile on his face widening.

"And what did you learn from this test, Mrs. Malfoy?" he breathed as her fingers slid down his chests, the heat of her touch reaching beyond the layers of fabric to his flesh.

"That you, Mr. Malfoy, and I, need to get a different hobby on our days off," she breathed as she tilted her head up, kissing him. He groaned softly as his hand buried in her hair. "And maybe a bigger house with another nursery."

"Oh, Lily," he took her by the hand, pulling her gently behind him down the steps into the garden, hidden away from the house. They celebrated, under the stars and full moon of the night.

Wrapped in his arms later, him drawing shapes on her stomach where his child grew below, safe and warm inside of her, he whispered his dreams into her ear. He paused only when his mouth was busy, claiming her and tasting her.

"I love you Lily," Scorpius whispered into the night. "You and only you. Forever and ever. Nothing will ever keep us apart again."

A/N: And that, they say, is all...
