Tali:
Tali was the last one to exit the emergency entry hatch. They had just climbed the Citadel tower, and were finally arriving at the Council court. She grabbed her shotgun off her lower back, and held it close anticipating Saren's attack.
Shepard pointed to the court area."That has to be where the control platform would be."
Everyone stayed tight and had their weapons out, except for Cody and Danny. They put their weapons away and took up the rear. It was strange to her that they were so calm at the end of the road.
Taking her mind off them, she began scanning the room for any threats. The room seemed to be clear due to the lack of geth. Still, she had a sinking feeling that everything was about to go to hell.
The team made their way to the court and saw no sign of Saren. Instead, all they found was an open console and nothing else. Shepard stepped in front of the console and looked at it.
"It's all controls for the Citadel. Looks like Saren left it open on arm control though."
Tali looked down at her omni-tool and saw that it had an incoming communication for him. "Shepard, it's the Destiny Ascension."
Shepard pointed at her, "Broadcast it."
It cracked at first, but came in clear enough. "Repeat, this is the Destiny Ascension broadcasting on an open channel. Barriers are down forty percent. We can't hold out much longer, is anyone there?"
"Tali, patch me through to Hacket."
Tali hit a few buttons on her omni-tool and logged into the citadel comms, "This is Admiral Hacket."
Shepard observed the console. "Admiral Hacket, this is Commander Shepard."
"Shepard? Captain Anderson contacted me and told me to have fifth fleet ready for an attack. He said you would send us the coordinates."
"Has the Normandy linked up with you yet?"
"Yes, but where are we attacking Shepard?"
Tali saw Shepard bite his lip,. "We are at the Citadel, there is an entire Geth fleet bombarding us along with a Reaper Dreadnaught that has landed within the Citadel."
"Shepard, repeat that. Did you say landed in the Citadel?"
"Yes", Shepard was sweating. "It got inside the Citadel fleet and connected with the Citadel somehow."
"Do you have an estimated size?"
Shepard looked out the window at the giant appendage that partially covered it. "Bigger than any ship you have ever seen."
There was a pause. "Alright, we will jump to the Widow system on your order. Do we have a direct line to the Dreadnaught?"
"No, unfortunately, it closed the Citadel arms to protect itself."
"Then you need to get those arms open. We will remain by the relay until you give the order."
"Shepard, the Destiny Ascension",Liara blurted out.
Shepard suddenly felt the weight of the world on his shoulders. He stepped over and leaned on one of the rails. Just from the look of him, Tali could feel his burden.
"We can't sacri-", Shepard stopped talking as he looked back.
She stepped forward to see and was awestruck. Saren was glowing green and floating without the help of his hover platform. He looked pleased with himself in a his smug expression revealing his superiority complex.
"Shepard, glad to see you're here. Ty was such a pathetic fight. Luckily, I can take my aggravation over it one you."
Tali looked around and then back to Saren, "Where is Ty?"
Saren smiled and put his hand to his chest, "Why, he's in here. Probably can't here you, though. His consciousness deleted when I consumed him."
"You what", Danny shouted and charged past everyone with his fusion sword drawn.
He jumped in the air, but was surrounded by a dark green aura and stopped before he could reach Saren, "Cute, you believe you can beat me with your pathetic power?"
Danny's arms and legs spread wide, and the sword was ripped from his hands. He struggled, but Saren sent Danny flying with a wave of his hand. Saren brought the sword to his hand and pointed it at Shepard.
Shepard held his heroic stature, "What are you trying to pull Saren?"
Saren let go of the sword, and it broke apart into several smaller ones, "This is just me, taking advantage of an easy situ-"
Saren's head snapped to the side as a sniper shot bounced off his face. His head snapped back, and he looked up at the upper level. It was hard for Tali to make out, but she could see Cody hiding in the shadows. Before lighting up with the same green aura as Danny as he was lifted off the ground.
"I really am growing tired of you Users thinking that I won't kill you… maybe you need an example."
Tali lost it after that and pulled up her shotgun. She fired it repeatedly at Saren just as Liara and Shepard did the same. He was taking tons of fire but it just bounced off his skin as if they were throwing pebbles as him. Everyone continued firing until all of their rifles overheated collectively.
Saren pointed at them and the sword leveled itself next to his arm. Then, as he spread his fingers, the sword split apart into four swords. Shepard turned away from him and grabbed Tali and Liara as he ran to cover.
"Ha, funny how you are running from me. By this point, I should be dead and you should be fighting sovereign."
Tali leaned against her cover, and fell to her knees, "What do we do to fight a god?"
Shepard pulled up his pistol and looked forward, "We keep shooting until we hit him where it hurts."
Shepard dodged out of cover and aimed his pistol, "Where is he!?"
Saren floated out of the ground right in front of Tali and looked down on her, "You are the one that he seems to have the strongest connection with."
All the swords surrounded Tali and she looked over to Shepard, but he was gone. Looking over at Liara, she saw she was held in the same green aura as the two Users.
"What are you going to do to me?"
Saren gave his gravest smile, "This."
All the swords shot forward at once.
Ty:
My eyes shot open and I felt pure power surge through my body. As I took in my surroundings, I just about threw up. My right arm was gone all the way to the elbow, and the left was completely gone. Just the sight kept me from looking to my legs.
Still, I felt the power. It was as if I had chains on for the entire time, and they were just released. My head was swimming with possibilities and changes. Things that I did not even think about before were now possible. My powers were no longer tied to armor.
I closed my eyes, and focused on where I was. Matrix code shot up from the bottom of the pit I was hanging over and surrounded me. I looked around, reading it. The zeros and ones became letters as I read.
"Grenades, dampening, overload?"
I immediately kicked myself; I was inside of Saren, and didn't know it. Then it hit me, I was inside Saren, and I was still alive. That meant I had been deleted.
Saren had not absorbed me, rather he had just plugged me into his own systems. I started going through his potential motives for not fully absorbing me but there was one thing that kept coming to the front of my mind. The words of the consort.
They echoed in my mind. "With your experiences, you have to go to Saren and use what you have experienced to beat him. It is the one thing that you have that Saren doesn't."
The words game me strength, and I started absorbing the code on the walls. It spread out and formed to my arms until I was whole again. My new hands felt good, and I put them to use right away.
I brought up Saren's core processing and started looking them over. There were few rules, and more attack patterns than the entire game of Starcraft. There was one rule, though, that caught my attention.
Saren can only killed by Shepard.
I went over my old play-throughs in my mind and realized that it was true. I would hit Saren with tons of biotics from Liara and Kaiden but Shepard would always deal the lethal blow. It was good to keep in mind.
First things first; I had to get out of Saren. My first instinct was to punch into the walls and see if I could knock my way out. However, that was just dumb I was in a realm where physical force was obsolete. Only one thing would allow me to escape his program.
I shoved my hands into the wall of code and pushed forward. It hurt more than anything I had ever felt even getting absorbed. It was more than I could take, and I pulled my hands back.
The green code surrounding me changed immediately changed to red and attacked me. It shot cybernetic veins out and collided with my body. The veins expanded over my body, and crawled outward trying to take me over again. It just continued the pain I had when trying to break the wall.
My mind began searching for a solution, and it found one as fast as it could. I directed my power up the veins and began pulling the red matrix code in like on the elevator. The red zeroes started flowing down the veins in pulses. The red code filled my body, and the burning resurfaced in my chest. I kept going until it was all but gone, and the only remaining piece of code that contained a red was also part green.
I looked at the zero; it was half green and half red. Like the red code found a way to communicate with the green code. I touched it with my finger and absorbed it. Upon doing so, the pain in my chest felt hot like a brand. When I looked down there was a red zero right in the middle of my chest.
I ignored it, although the more I did the more I noticed it continued to cause me more pain. Still, I had to move on. I focused the red code in me into my fingertips. Each one of them glowed red and once they were ready, I stabbed my hand into the wall.
A smile came to my face as I had the faintest notion that I was hurting Saren. I continued to push forward until I stepped through the wall. I moved forward fast and faster. I felt my hand push against something and I pushed even harder.
Light flooded my eyes, and I closed them and kept moving. I widened the hole further, and I was out to my waist. I opened my eyes and looked around and saw I was sticking out of Saren's gut. I looked at him for a second, before belting him right in the face and pulling myself all the way out.
Saren wiped the blood off one of his mandibles, and looked at me with a stunned expression on his face, "How did you?"
"Because I am better than you."
Saren shook his head. "No, we merged! I took you over. You aren't supposed to be alive!"
I looked back and saw Danny, Cody, Shepard and Liara pressed against a wall, "Then how am I still here?"
Saren rubbed his chest. "No, you aren't. You aren't here!"
I turned back to him. "But I am. I guess the merge wasn't successful."
He grabbed the plasma cutter off his belt and aimed it at me but it shut down, "What the hell?!"
I cracked my neck and let a smug, superior smile cross my lips, "You can't beat me, Saren. You don't understand what it means to be a User. A User is the one who plays the game. One who drives the game forward. We define the game, and accomplish the tasks set before us in ways that the creators never imagined. We are the untold army that undertakes the task set by the story and drives it forward. Now get ready, because to drive this game forward, you have to die!"
Before you say anything! Yes, I did just kill Tali.
Now, responses to reviews:
Whitedawn,
Yeah, he's back!
Guest,
Wooh, I feel awesome!
Okay, now, do you like Ty? Do you like Ty as a character? Do you want to read about him in another story while waiting for Users 2? If so then no worries, I am working on another story as we speak. It has him in it and even more User antics.
