"Jade… that's not funny" I stated in a dead voice, just hoping against hope this was some kind of sick joke but immediately, by the look in her eyes, I could tell it wasn't. She had no idea who I was.
"Who the hell are you?" She demanded, backing up against the door, eyes scanning the place nervously, "Wh-What are you gonna do to me?" She stuttered and I raised my hands, not knowing what else to do – just to calm her down.
"It's okay, I'm not gonna hurt you" I said sadly, watching my mom come down the stairs, a basket of laundry placed on her hip.
"Okay, you two lovebirds are gonna have to watch baby Chris – the club called, apparently there's a lighting emer-"Mom trailed off, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
"What's going on?" She asked and I was honestly speechless. Jade whipped around, her eyes narrowing slightly as she took in the two of us and the whole house.
"Chris…" Mom said, giving me that look which clearly stated 'tell me what's going on now.'
"I… I don't-"I stuttered, shaking my head – this was completely unreal, surely.
"Okay, for the last time… WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?" Jade screeched and mom looked at me with wide eyes, almost dropping the laundry basket she was holding.
"I think I'm gonna have to cancel going to the club" She murmured, shaking her head lightly.
I watched as Jade fidgeted on the sofa, wringing her hands nervously as we all crowded in the hallway.
"Okay Chris, c'mon… something must've happened – people don't just wake up one day and forget who they are" Paige urged and I just shrugged helplessly.
"I told you" I exclaimed, spreading my arms wide, "Nothing happened – you were here with us, everything was normal… for once" I muttered and mom sent me a sympathetic glance.
"Anything happen after you went to bed?" Phoebe asked and I felt my mouth popping open.
"Well… she had a nightmare about-about her family" I said sadly and dad stared at me.
"What happened to them?" He asked softly as my family's gazes lingered on me.
"When we were fifteen Wyatt, he um… he murdered them" I explained and everyone's faces fell and my mom and dad looked incredibly guilty, "I guess she was dreaming about being back there"
"Poor girl" Mom said, dipping her head.
"So… what? It was a traumatic event so she shut herself off to forget about it, effectively losing her memory?" Paige asked sceptically but I immediately shook my head.
"No, that's not it" I said adamantly, "She was shaken up – sure… but she wouldn't shut herself off like that, she didn't back then so I doubt she would now" I explained, starting to pace, heart racing – we had to fix this – soon, "No… it has to be magic"
"Like a spell?" Mom asked, looking like she was about to race to the book of shadows.
"Or maybe a warlock" Dad piped up.
"Or a demon" Phoebe said gravely and a sudden surprised noise made us all turn around.
"Warlocks? Demons?" Jade exclaimed, eyes wide with terror as she stood not more than a mere five feet from us, "You're nuts… I'm leaving" She stated, moving towards the door but I leapt forward and grabbed her arm.
"Jade, wait-"I said desperately but she cut me off by ripping her arm from my grasp, her deep blue eyes filled with mistrust and hatred.
"Don't touch me" She snarled, taking a step backwards and my heart constricted painfully. She continued to glare at me, body shaking, "I don't trust you" She decided, narrowing her eyes before leaning against the wall so she could see all of us in her line of sight. I gulped, trying to contain my emotions but I felt them bubbling to the surface – face fallen, posture slouched, tear filled eyes.
Mom sent me an uneasy glance and stepped forward, probably hoping she would be less intimidating.
"Jade, I know this must be a lot to take in but I promise you we're telling you the truth: You do know us" Mom said gently and Jade shook her head in confusion.
"Then why don't I remember you? I just… everything's so…" She rambled and Phoebe stepped forward nervously.
"Jade, it's okay… calm down… we'll explain everything to you but please just try and relax, you know what the doctor said" Phoebe said, then furrowed her eyebrows, "Okay, you obviously don't know what he said because you have no memory, but you get what I mean" She smiled, waving her arms around. Immediately, worry flared up in the pit of my stomach – no stress, that's what he said, it could cause untold damage and what was happening now? A ton of stress being dumped on her shoulders.
"Doctor? Why would I need a doctor?" Jade questioned, eyes full of worry.
"Y'know… because…" Paige indicated with her hand to Jade's expanding stomach and I was shocked she hadn't noticed it before. Jade furrowed her eyebrows but looked down, letting out an audible gasp.
"I'm… there's a… w-what?" She stuttered and I desperately wanted to explain it to her – tell her about all those happy memories we shared, finding out we were having twins, explaining how ecstatic she and I was but I refrained myself – she hated me right now, talking to her would just make things a whole lot worse.
"Yeah… twins" Phoebe said nervously, wondering how Jade would react – she continued to stare at us, wide-eyed and mouth slacked, before sighing.
"Twins" She murmured quietly before beginning to slink to the floor but I caught her, just, grabbing her around the waist and holding her to my chest.
"I guess that came as a bit of a shock" Dad murmured and we all just raised our eyebrows at him. Well no duh? Jade's eyes were closed – obviously she just fainted then. I let out a whoosh of air and gently placed her on the sofa, straightening her legs and gently wiping her loose hair away from her face. She sighed contently, turning her face so her cheek was gently resting against my open palm. I just continued to stare at her, lost in her, but a gentle cough made me shake my head and turn around to focus back on the real situation at hand.
"So what are we going to do?" Phoebe asked, breaking the tense silence but a sudden movement caught the corner of my eye. A demon, tall, hooded and decaying, saggy, almost burnt-like skin, stood there, a long wooden shaft in his hands.
Immediately, all of us attacked – but it proved futile. He had some kind of force field around him, much like Wyatt's. I cringed, imagining how in hell we could vanquish him now – we were all pretty much useless.
"Relax – I'm not going to kill you… yet" He smirked turning around and facing me, "It's a pleasure Christopher" He said snidely and I felt my eyebrows rise to my hair line.
"We know each other?" I asked sceptically, staring at him in disgust.
"No, but I have been studying you and miss Granley for quite some time and I know you'll be perfect for my trials" And my blood ran cold. Trials? What was he talking about?
"Trials?" I demanded, a sinking feeling in my stomach.
"Yes, trials – how do you think Jade woke up without knowing anything" He explained and my blood boiled.
"You bastard" I snarled, fuming, whole body shaking with anger.
"Relax Christopher, you can get her memory back – that's the first trial" He told me and I just shook my head in complete and utter disgust, confusion and apprehension.
"Oh yeah… how?" I demanded, standing rigidly.
"Make her fall in love with you again" the demon smirked and my heart plummeted.
"Yeah – except that may be a bit tricky considering she hates me" I snarled back, curling my fists tightly.
"Move past that" He advised, spreading his arms wide, "Come on future one… I didn't say it would be easy" And at that I rushed forward, ready to tear his face off but dad held me back. The demon's face changed dramatically – his eyes got darker and the room got un-unnervingly cold.
"Stop being unreasonable Chris – I'm doing you a favour aren't I? All that guilt that's been bubbling up in your chest since you got here has to be killing you" And at that I felt my face fell, "If you succeed I'll give her those memories so you don't have to" And I thought, for a moment, my heart may have stopped.
"And yes, I know about your extra curriculum activities" And my family stared at me.
"What's he talking about Chris?" Mom asked but I ignored her.
"I didn't sleep with them – I'm still faithful" I deadpanned, nails digging into my palms.
"That's not the point Chris – Jade will forgive you for that… I know she will, but she'll be hurt and depressed mostly because you didn't tell her… I mean, come on son – she's having your children" He stated in that sick, smug voice.
"Shut up" I growled, trying to get rid of those memories – lip-locking with that Valhallian, flirting with a new charge, kissing that blonde witch and playing around with all those other women, basically doing all the things I promised myself I wouldn't – hurt Jade – guess I've broken that promise a few times.
"I guess I'll leave you to it but remember… you pass this trial there will be more so I'd buckle up if I were you kid" He warned before shimmering away and I let out a breath, turning around and staring at the various looks my family had.
Oh boy was I in trouble!
Yay, another chapter done – I thought it would be kind of cute to show them falling in love again, like the process and everything and this was the only way I could do it – hope you like the idea and please please review – update soon!
