*Something to Believe In by Aqualung*
(Finn decides to give the couple some alone time so he heads downstairs to make them some drinks)
"Rory you should have told me."-Steve
(helps her out of the bath and grabs some comfortable clothes for her to change into. She takes care of getting dressed then tell Steve the news)
"I didn't want to tell you just yet. The doctor was saying that the treatments could help, however."-Rory
"However what. Please for once just tell me everything that is going on at one time. It will make it easier on both of us."-Steve
(sighs but sits done on the bed, and her fiancé joins her a few moments later) "They aren't 100% sure what is wrong with me to be honest honey. They located the cancer and they know that with the six rounds of treatments will help this problem, however they don't know what else is wrong yet."-Rory
"What are the other symptoms?"- Steve
"I can be doing the most simple of tasks and just get really light headed or feel like the room is moving. I try laying down and it doesn't really help matters at all. When I go to do photo shoots even if I am just the photographer I get dizzy. I've even passed out a few times."-Rory
"Was this before treatment started?"-Steve
"Yes, it has been going on for about three months now."-Rory
"And they still don't know what is causing it?"-Steve
"No."-Rory
"Alright, well we shall finish the next round of treatments then try to get to the bottom of your other health concern. Rory."-Steve
(lays down) "I know, Steve. Really I do, and I am beyond sorry that I didn't tell you from the beginning what was going on but I am more than my illness and I want you to remember that."-Rory
(he sees that she is falling asleep so he covers her up with their favorite blanket and kisses her on the forehead) "I will sweet heart, I will. I love you."-Steve
(he just watches her sleep for a few minutes then heads back downstairs to once again talk to Finn)
"Where do we go from here?"-Steve
"One day, one step at a time mate. That is all we can do."-Finn
(the two sit in silence for a few minutes)
"When was the last time you gave her a massage?"-Finn
(looks at him startled) "What?"-Steve
"When was the last time that you gave Rory a massage."-Finn
(not understanding his reasoning behind asking that question) "I gave her a small one almost a month ago when she told me about buying the new studio."- Steve
"Tomorrow, give her a full and proper one."-Finn
"Finn, I don't understand where you are going with this."-Steve
(gets up to refill his glass of water then sits back down at the island in the kitchen)
"Steve, think about it. Really think about it. What is the one thing, no matter the situation that has always helped Rory as well as you feel better?"-Finn
(realization dawns on his face)
"And for once don't it here. This house while amazing may still hold a bit more stress than necessary at the moment, which is understand but still. Take her to Beyond. (before he has a chance to interrupt) I talked to Robin already she is more than okay with the two of you monthly or even weekly coming back in to the spa for treatments. She will set aside a room for the two of to do this, even pay you once more if you want it. That's not the point though. You two need that kind of time alone in order to properly reconnect. You do have a wedding to plan."-Finn
(looks down at the counter and for the first time breaks down because it just hits him that his soon to be wife has cancer, he wasn't the first to find out, he almost lost her to a violent rape, saw her be broken more than a few times due to Finn's careless behavior. All of the emotions that he had been trying to keep inside finally boil to the surface. His friend just walks up to him and gives him a hug)
"I can't promise that everything is going to be okay, but we meaning you, me, Logan as well as the rest of the group will fight like hell to get her back to the happy, and as healthy as she possibly can be."-Finn
(gladly embraces the hug) "I damn sure to do hope so, Finn I really do. I'm sorry to fall apart like this you know that I normally try to refrain from showing this kind of emotion for obvious reasons."-Steve
"Don't worry about it, mate. I more than understand. I would be a mess as well if it was my girl in this situation."-Finn
"How do I find something to believe in, in all of this craziness. I feel like someone turned out the lights and there is nothing left in a way. If that makes any sense at all."-Steve
"It does. However, you can not give faith just yet. The treatments literally just started. Give it time, give her time. The situation is complicated, and hard for all involved, but if the person she relies on more than anything, next to Lorelai of course, gives up on her. (pauses) She will have no reason to fight, and then the battle will be lost before it even truly began."-Finn
"That is a fair enough point."-Steve
"Occasionally I can be rather logical."-Finn
(the two of them share a laugh and then just spend the rest of the evening talking, scheduling a few things for the group to do as well as just Steve and Rory. The pair also of course checked up on her at almost hourly intervals making sure she was eating things when she felt up to and keeping her hydrated considering that the chemo had done a number on her system.)
*The Next Day*: Home by The Foo Fighters
(Rory had just gotten done getting out of the shower, hoping it would help ease her upset stomach as well as her feeling like she got ran over by a truck. Steve had left about two hours prior to get everything set up for a proper massage at Beyond and just returned to check on her)
"I made some pumpkin tea for you baby. Figured it would brighten your mood a little bit more."-Steve
(kisses him) "Thanks for the gesture my love. What have you been up to this morning? It seems like you have been up since the crack of dawn."- Rory
"How would you feel about going for a swim, a quick steam, then heading to Beyond to get a massage done by your's truly?"-Steve
(gives him a huge hug) "I would love that honey. Although, I can't do the steam room anymore. At least until the treatments are done. The doctors are afraid with my tendency to stay in there a bit too long that it would do more damage than actually help me feel better in the long run."-Rory
"Alright, well why don't we get changed then head to Health Bridge?"-Steve
"Sounds like a plan."-Rory
*At the Pool*
"You do know that there is a photo shoot coming up over the weekend right?"-Rory
"Of course I do. Logan, and I have been working out the details for it. But I gave it over completely to him earlier this morning."-Steve
"You didn't do that because of my health did you?"-Rory
(goes up to her in the pool and gently persuades her to start doing her normal laps with him by her side)
"No, I have a few things planned for you and I did over the weekend, that's the main reason I gave up doing the shoot."-Steve
(smiles) "That was sweet of you to do, Steve. Hey quick question. Where do you plan on doing this massage at?"-Rory
(stops briefly) "O at Beyond. If that is alright with you of course."-Steve
(looks at him startled) "How are you going to pull that one off?"-Rory
" Carefully. (they both smirk at each other). No, Finn pulled some strings for me and talked to Robin about setting up weekly or monthly appointments for you and I so we could have a truly relaxing area away from home to do the massages. She even said she would pay me for them as well. I probably won't have her do that though it would seem a little bit on the weird side considering you are my girlfriend."-Steve
"Finn went to that much trouble for you and I to be able to do this and truly enjoy the experience. He truly has changed, in ways that I didn't think were possible. At least not this time last year."-Rory
"Yeah, it is rather impressive."-Steve
(about ten minutes just pass in comfortable silence, the two of them doing laps, or just relaxing in the warm water. Steve would occasionally go over to Rory to rub her shoulders or give her a brief kiss then the two would continue on with what they were doing)
"Is there any certain time that she is expecting us to be there?"-Rory
"Honestly not really it really is up to us at this point. I was thinking that we could go take a quick shower, put our clothes on, then head out to Smuggler's for something light and tasty to eat. Maybe do a bit of shopping for fall scents for the house then head over. I mean it is still pretty early in the day to the appointment. This way when we get back home we can just grab dinner and maybe do a movie night."-Steve
"Someone is either trying to get some action or just is intent on spoiling me for the rest of the week."-Rory
"Yes to both"-Steve
(they laugh then head to the shower to rinse off and get dressed)
*In the Car*
"Which store would you like to go to first."-Steve
"Well it depends, are we looking to update the candle inventory. We probably should to be honest with you, it is running dangerously low for us. O so are our body washes and scrubs."-Rory
"Bath and Body Works it is then."-Steve
(gently places her hand on his leg to stop him from driving for a few minutes)
"Love, you don't have to do all of this. You know that right? I appreciate it more than you could possibly understand. I really do, however I have no plans on going anywhere anytime in the near future and I promise you that no matter how big of a purchase we make at any of the stores we hit up today it will not change the outcome of my health. I love you simply for you, the effort that you are putting in is so flattering. The doctors said with the rounds of chemo I should be fine. Remember that?"-Rory
(almost starts crying again) "I know that, Rory. I do, but I just want to show you properly for once because I have been lacking lately how deep my love for you truly goes. That I will go to the ends of the earth and back just to see you smile. Let me do that for the rest of this week please. It will help me feel a lot better. And it will brighten your mood even more."-Steve
(kisses him passionately to which he easily responds to) "If you insist. However, when we get back home be prepared for the best evening of making love that we have ever had."-Rory
(whispers) "I am always ready for you baby."-Steve
(the two finally make it to Bath and Body Works about twenty minutes later. It is still only around ten in the morning, when they walked through the door so it was rather quiet and peaceful)
"Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin in everything available am I assuming right in that idea?"-Steve
"You are more than correct. They even have a new golden body scrub so grab a few of those as well if you don't mind of course."-Rory
"Not at all. They have it in the wall plugs as well."-Steve
"Do you mean the fragrance bulbs that go with it or the actual plug itself?"-Rory
"The bulbs of course. The deal is 4 for $20 or 6 for $24. How many would you like?"-Steve
"Well we could half of that deal in Sweet Cinnamon then go through the other scents to see if any smell as good as that one does. How does that sound to you?"-Rory
"That sounds terrific."-Steve
(the two proceed to spend the next forty minutes picking out different scents for the house as well as each other. After that trip was finished they headed to Yankee candle to make sure they didn't need anything else in the candle department. When that was taken care of Rory and Steve finally made their way to Beyond)
