I have nothing to say. Ergh.

Tactics and Eyes

I never liked waking up. Never have, never will.

It's because it meant leaving the peace and serenity of my dreamless nights only to be thrust into the harsh reality of the world where it came down to fight or flight or death with every decision. It meant re-entering the world I sometimes thought about leaving permanently. It meant returning to the world that made me question my existence. It meant being in the the world that made me question existence at all.

It didn't help that I was also waking up to pain.

Now, that's saying something. After surviving through my not-so-perfect, not all-sunshine-and-unicorns of a life, I've built up a high tolerance for pain and a quite respectable stamina. Though, this is nothing like I've suffered through before.

It hurt to breathe. It hurt to twitch. It hurt to shift. It freaking hurt to even think.

Compared to what I've gone through before, this should be a piece of cake.

I mean, have I not searched through a rigged palace with weak weapons in hand, monsters designed specifically to kill me, and my future enemy also roaming around with the same goal that I had and every intention to kill to achieve that goal only to end up leaving with a couple scrapes, bruises, and the item I was looking for?

Have I not I managed not to get myself killed by the Queen of Air and Darkness from taking advantage of her slight, once-in-a-billion-lifetimes mistake and escaping her grasp?

Have I not survived running the same path as Philippides in sandals, a Greecian tunic, and seemingly-tireless and unusually vicious unicorns right on my heels?

Well, I guess not because-

"Holy shit. That was not a good idea. I am an idiot. Ow. Ow. Ow. HOLY-!"

"And here I was, thinking that you weren't religious," came Goodfellow's drawl with impeccable timing as always.

"And here I am, thinking that you're a fucking stalker who's begging for a restraining order of death," I growled in a hoarse voice, still feeling the pain course through my body, renewed because I fell off something and took a tumble to the floor. Hardwood floor, might I add.

He snorted in response. Then, there's was a sound of fabrics rustling against each other and a minuscule creaking. It sounded like he was getting up from a chair. "Here, let's get you back to bed..."

"Was that a sexual innuendo?" Ah, me and my big fat mouth.

"I don't know," he responded playfully. I could practically hear the grin that was most likely perched on his face oozing from his tone. "Do you want it to be?"

"Oh, yes," I answered immediately, deciding to take a different approach in retaliation rather than my usual 'shut up'. I dropped back my head, looking up at him through my lashes and whispering lowly, "Take me to bed and make wild and passionate love to me."

Hmm. I don't believe I've ever seen the Summer Court's jester choke on air this violently before. Believe me when I say it takes a lot to impress me when it comes to entertainment, but I have to say, this was quite an enjoyable scene to watch.

Heh.

"Your order has been placed, my lady." The goblin bowed deeply, his large nose barely grazing the marble floor, before hobbling away at a surprisingly fast pace despite his stubby legs.

Meghan watched the goblin speed around the corner and out of sight before turning to face Glitch with a blank expression on her face. "We're nine weeks ahead of schedule," she stated simply and a bit randomly.

Glitch blinked in confusion before casting her a wary look. "Yes, my lady. We are," he responded before continuing cautiously, "What of it?"

It was quick. So quick, I could barely realize something had occurred in the first place. If I had taken any longer to figure out what was going on, I would have fallen victim to one of the most horrible and cruel tactics I've had the displeasure of witnessing.

Glitch wasn't as lucky. The fact that he was the target only made it harder for him to withstand the attack.

But, resistance against Meghan's bambi eyes was futile.

With her clear blue eyes that have seemingly grown infinitely larger and somehow bluer, lashes fluttering slightly, reminiscent of a perched butterfly, her bottom lip fuller as it pushed out into a pout, topped off with the quiet sighs that kept escaping her, Glitch was rendered utterly helpless despite the effort he put up.

Meghan was just too scarily adorable in this moment.

And Glitch was at her complete and utter mercy. His nerves were remarkably obvious in his appearance. His hair began changing color from the usual neon yellow to a nervous purple, threaded with a defeated blue. His violet orbs were flickering all over the room in a desperate attempt to avoid Meghan's unblinking ones, but no matter how long they managed to stay away for, they kept involuntarily roaming back.

I felt a small urge to laugh at his discomfort and fear, but it was completely squashed by the possibility that the direction of Meghan's gaze would shift towards me. It was strong enough directed at someone else. If it landed on me, I don't know how long I'd last.

Yeah. It was that powerful.

"Glitch?" Her voice was high and delicate.

Glitch winced noticeably. "Yes, my queen?" he answered weakly, shoulders slumping in defeat.

She let out a small sigh that just urged people to feel sympathy. "I'm so tired, Glitch. I'm still a new queen, and these past months have been so hard," she murmured in a soft, pitiable voice. I felt myself sway in emotion before catching myself. Glitch, on the other hand, didn't have the same luxury. His face was filled with guilt and despair as if her fatigue was all on him— as if he were the origin of all her problems. I almost pitied his vulnerable position before the iron queen.

Almost.

I'm still much too sadistic to truly have the feeling of mercy upon another.

Goodfellow, who was lounging in a chair in the corner of the room, seemed to have similar sentiment as me though he decided to reflect it out loud with his merciless cackles.

"And I was wondering," she continued her onslaught, unperturbed by Goodfellow, "if we could take this time to just relax and sight see..."

Glitch was at war. His hair was crackling with indecision, and he seemed to shrink inside his leather jacket. Funny. People who wear leather jackets are supposed to be tough. Right now, I could compare Glitch to a pixie.

"B-but, my queen," he sputtered, finally managing to gather up enough backbone to respond. "It wouldn't... it wouldn't be... wise..." he drifted off in horror at the sniffling sounds Meghan had begun to create.

That sucker, I snickered internally, quickly growing immune to my queen's theatrics.

"Oi, mate. You should just give up now," Goodfellow chortled, unfolding his long limbs as he stood from his chair. He ruffled his red hair and shook his head with a nostalgic grin on his face. "You just can't win when she gets like this."

Glitch turned and frowned at him. "But—"

"Please?" He whipped around to face Meghan again with wide open eyes. "The kingdom is well taken care of. I mean, Lazarus is one of our most trusted majors, and there has been absolutely no hints of violence anywhere. It'd be perfectly all right if I took a short vacation especially since a tired queen would be no help..." Meghan turned her gaze to the floor, but the effect was still there.

Glitch struggled to find a rebuttal, but we all knew that he was absolute putty in her hands.

"Fine," he gave finally as he crumbled into his fortress of leather.

"Great!" Meghan clapped happily as if her little scene was an everyday activity while Glitch collapsed to the floor in exhaustion. "Now, there's a trod around here that leads straight into the heart of New York City, and we..."

Leaning back against the wall of the room, I watched as Meghan rambled on about the different things we had to see and do in New York. Not really focusing on her words, I thought about the scene I had witnessed a few moments ago.

Meghan is definitely intelligent. How did I get this from her seemingly childish maneuver of bambi eyes? Because she knew it would work. Just like when Goodfellow and I were fighting, she somehow knew that it would take much to stop us. Using her authority as my new queen, she had been able to stop me. I may have been injured which was not her intent in the least, but she managed to get me to stop.

She knows how to deal with people. She has different layers. She is strong.

She is my queen. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

"Hey, Fringe. Why are you staring at Meghan like that? Oh. I get it. You bat for the other team. So that's how you're able to fend off my advances—" He blew up into a cloud of leaves as my dagger dug into his chest. He appeared behind Meghan with a smirk.

Goodfellow is the bane of my existence. And I would rather have him two hundred feet under.

Okay, so I finally realized what was wrong with my writing in the beginning of this chapter. Too. Many. Lists. Like, wth. This isn't for the supermarket. Well. -.- I don't know. I lost my swag.
