Daylight came quickly. And they had managed to make it through the night. Mike looked at John as they woke up. "We have to get out of here and try to find help. Someway to get back to the city and away from all of this."
"We follow the main highway." John replied.
"Yeah. So let's go wake up the girls and get out of here." Mike said standing up. They headed into the room where the girls were sleeping. They got up and got ready to was toward the highway.
"Let's try to stay together." John said as they walked to the door. He opened the door slowly and saw that no one was outside. "Alright. It's clear. Let's head out of here."
Mike grabbed Avery's hand and they headed out. They walked down the stairs and toward the woods. "So, which way? We have to get to the main highway."
John looked around. "We should go right. Because Kate and I came from the left and there was no road. So I say right."
"Sounds good to me." John nodded and the four of them started toward the right. Each one praying that they found a road and someone to help them. And nothing that would hurt them.
Bret and Jerry were frantically searching for the kids with the help of the local police. The police had looked all over the city and saw nothing. Now they were looking on the outside of town.
"Why have they not been found?" Jerry asked the police captain. "My daughter and her friends could be hurt. You need to do more."
"We've got units on the way to the edges of the woods and along the main highway."
"I want them found. If anything has happened to my daughter and her friends, you all will pay. And all my guards will pay and Paul Heyman will pay. I know he's behind this." Jerry said to him. "Just find my daughter."
"We will. I promise." He nodded as they headed out toward the woods.
"God, we haven't seen anything at all. We have no idea where we are. We have Phil's crazy dad and his goons after us. And then there is that serial killer lurking about." Kate said as they walked. "Are we going to die here?"
"No. We're going to make it to the main highway and get help." John said.
"Don't bet on it." They all turned to the voice behind him.
"God, this just keeps getting worse." Kate replied.
"Grab the girls and take them away. And then get rid of the boys."
"NO!" Kate said to him. "You can't do that."
"Actually I can." He said to them. "You see, you girls are more valuable to me than the boys."
Nobody had time to react when John picked up a limb and hit one of the guys in the head. Mike punched another one and John was about to attack the other when there was a gunshot and a scream. Both of them stopped to see the man standing there with a gun to Avery's head and Kate on the ground holding her cheek.
"Stay right there boys." He said to them. "If you try something like that again, then this one dies." He said pointing to Avery. "And this one is next." He said pointing to Kate.
John and Mike looked at each other and stood there. John wanted to rush to Kate and make sure she was okay.
"What's the real reason behind all of this? You didn't really give a shit about Phil." Avery said.
"But he was my son." Paul replied. "And I promised him I will get revenge for his death."
"He hated you you know. Hated your guts. That's why he got in trouble so much. That's why he wanted to get out of your house so badly."
He slapped her hard after she said it. "I love my son and he loved me. I would do anything for my son. And because you, he's dead. So it's time for revenge." He said pointing the gun at the others. "You decide who dies. Mike, Kate or John. You choose who is put to death."
"Me." Avery said. "You want revenge on someone, take it out on me."
"It doesn't work that way." He said to her. "You have to watch." He pointed the gun again at Mike, Kate and John. "If you don't pick the one to die, I will do it for you. Then I will kill the others. So you choose. Does only one of them die or do they all die."
"Drop your weapon!" He heard from behind him. He turned to face the person.
"I'm getting revenge on my son's death."
"You're going to get yourself killed. We have the wood surrounded. You shoot one of those kids and the snipers have been ordered to fire. We got your guards in custody already." Drew said.
Paul looked around. "Someone has to pay for my son's death. And this one is the cause of it." He said pointing to Avery. "If my son hadn't been saving her sorry life, he would be alive. She needs to pay for it."
He raised the gun up and Avery closed her eyes as the shot rang out. She opened them and saw that she was fine. She looked to see Phil's dad on the ground.
Mike rushed over to her and wrapped his arms around her. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." She said as she hugged him tightly. "I thought for sure we were dead."
"But we aren't." He said pulling away. "See? Look around. We are all fine." She looked over at Kate and saw that John was there and the paramedics were looking them over. "It's over Avery. It's all over."
She nodded as she saw her dad walking over. "I'm so glad you're safe." Bret said hugging her. "We were so worried."
"I was too." She replied.
"Well everything is going to be okay." He said to her. "They are all going to jail." She nodded as the paramedics came over.
"We need to take you all to the hospital." He said to her and Mike. "You need to be checked out."
Avery nodded and looked at her dad. "Will you ride with us?"
"Of course." He said as they walked over the other ambulance. Everyone was soon on their way to the hospital while the police were dealing with Paul and everything.
Kate and John sat in the exam room waiting for the doctor to release them. "You are never leaving the house again and I'm going to make sure I hired new guards with very good background checks." Jerry said walking in.
"That's a little extreme don't you think?" Kate asked.
"Based on everything lately, no, I don't." He said to her. "You're my only daughter. My only child and I almost lost you several times over the last few days. I'm not taking any chances. If I have to lock you and John in the house I will. Because I get the feeling you won't be without him. So, he will just have to be locked in too."
"You're asking me to move in? Sir, this is all so sudden. I don't know what to say."
"Alright smart ass." Jerry said to him. "I'm protecting my daughter and as such you just happen to come with her right now. So I will protect you too."
"Daddy, I think locking me in the house extreme. With Mr. Heyman dead and no one else after me, I think it's okay for me to go out of the house. I will have new guards. I will be fine."
"I just worry."
"I know but I'm fine. And I will be fine." She replied. "Besides do you really want John to live with us?"
"Not really because I'm so not wanting to be a grandfather yet."
"We use protection dad."
"And that's not always one hundred percent effective. But I know I can't stop you from having sex. So, I'm pretending I don't know anything about it." He replied. "Now, the doctor is getting to discharge you both and we will head home. John, you're welcome to come and stay at the house but I'm sure your parents would like you home."
"I'll come visit tomorrow if that's alright."
"Of course you came over." Kate smiled.
"Well since that's taken care of. Let's head home." Jerry said. "John, we will drop you off at your house."
"Thank you sir."
Jerry nodded as the doctor came in with the release forms. Once everything was signed, they all headed out. Bret, Avery and Mike followed to the limo and everyone got in including the two guards in the front. And a car followed carrying two more guards. Both Jerry and Bret were so relieved that the kids were safe. Now maybe they could put everything behind them.
