Okay, so the next chapter actually is the choice, so we'll be seeing that tomorrow probably. I just finished writing Poison & Wine's epilogue that will lead into the sequel... which brings me to my question. What do you guys think the sequel should be called? Review and leave your ideas!
Poison & Wine - Chapter LVIII

"Ugh, where are we this time?" I asked as I climbed out of the car. I stretched my arms out and heard a pop. We had spent our entire car trip talking more about ourselves. Needless to say I finally felt like I knew Elijah rather than understanding him.
Elijah walked around the car and stood in front of me. "We are in Pennsylvania," He said.
I raised an eyebrow at him. "Really? Why?"
"We veered slightly off course to retrieve something," He explained, glancing around. "Speaking of which I have to go at two to retrieve it."
I stuck my bottom lip out, mock pouting at him. "I'm not allowed to go?"
He shook his head, eyes distant. "No, I'm afraid not. It's a matter I would prefer to handle myself, and after I am finished we can continue onto New York."
"We're going to New York?" I asked with a grin.
"Yes," Elijah smiled at my response.
I pulled him into a hug. "Then go on, Eli! I want to go see the city!
"
He chuckled and embraced me back. He kissed the top of my head, placing the car keys in my hand before disappearing. I decided that I would go grab a bite to eat while I was waiting for him to return, so I walked around this small town for ten minutes before I came across a diner. I walked in without really paying attention to the others who were sitting at a table.
"Andy. Andy!"
I flinched as I heard my name shouted. Slowly I turned to see Damon, Stefan, Rebekah, and two people I never wanted to see again: Katherine and Emmeline.
I knew my face had to show my emotion at seeing those last two. I wasn't the best at hiding my emotions. "What are you doing here?" I hissed to all of them, glaring daggers at every one of them.
"Chill out, Andy," Damon said, leaning back in the bench he sat in. "We're just trying to find your sister."
More anger filled me. "Elena's here? In town?"
"No, she's in Florida and we'd thought we would look here," Damon said sarcastically.
I clenched my fists and looked at Katherine. I hated her so much for what she did to Jeremy, and I would give anything to have her killed. Maybe Elijah would... "Andy," Emmeline said, her brown eyes pleading with me. "You have to help us, like you were before."
Tension instantly filled the air.
"What?" Stefan looked over at me.
Katherine laughed for a few moments. "You didn't know? Wow, Andy, bravo! I applaud you," Rebekah took a fork and shoved it in Katherine's hand. Her laughter stopped.
"What is she speaking of, Andy?" Rebekah asked, looking at me.
I averted my eyes and folded my arms across my chest. "I don't know," I huffed.
Katherine decided she was going to throw me under the bus. "Andy was helping us get the cure. After you guys killed Kol, she decided that she didn't want any of you to have it. Those days that Klaus was stuck in the house, when Caroline was working to decode those symbols? Andy did that so she could ensure Elena didn't get her hands on it. Andy's just as manipulative as we are." Katherine gestured with her free hand to her sister and herself.
"Is that true, Andy?" Stefan asked.
I met both his and Damon's eyes before I nodded. "Yes, all of it is... In all honesty, I probably would've given it to Rebekah or Elijah, if he wanted it."
We all stared at each other for a few moments. They finally knew that I wasn't on their side anymore, so I doubted I'd ever be asked to help them with anything ever again. I didn't give a shit to be honest.
Stefan broke the silence, looking to Rebekah. "Where's Elena?"
Rebekah adjusted slightly. "So let me get this straight: I tell you where Elena is, you shove the cure down her throat, and then I end up in a box, right? I don't think so."
Damon looked to Katherine. "What about you over there, smiley? Do you know where she is?"
Katherine smirked at Emmeline before looking back at him. "I can give you a hint. Start by looking at the town morgue. She's probably dead," No one spoke, waiting for her to elaborate. "She went to meet up with a friend of Emmeline's. You may know him—an Original brother, impeccable taste."
I spoke, completely horrified. "Elijah," I whispered.
Damon looked at me. "Elijah's here?" He asked.
I nodded, falling down into a chair in defeat. "H-he said he had to meet someone at two... " Elijah had been going to meet Katherine, but why? She had done so much to me and yet he still wanted to meet with her.
"Well, you sort of have to question Elijah's impeccable taste if he's friends with you two," Stefan said to Katherine.
Katherine's smirk grew. "Oh, when I say they are friends, mean friends,"
Damon and Rebekah groaned in disgust, while I shook my head. "No, Elijah wouldn't―" I stopped myself short when I saw Emmeline's expression. "Elijah and you were... together?" I asked in a small voice.
"It was when he thought you didn't want him," She answered in the same voice.
Katherine started speaking, interrupting Emmeline and mine's conversation. "It probably took him about 10 seconds to realise that she wasn't me, at which point he probably yanked her heart right out of her chest, considering Andy hates her almost as much as she does me."
Stefan leaned forward. "All right. Where are they?" He asked and Katherine just smiled and said nothing. "Rebekah, you do realise if something should happen to Elena, you have no chance of finding the cure, right?"
Rebekah sighed. "Fine. They were supposed to meet at the gazebo by the park,"
Stefan stood up. "I'll go talk to Elijah,"
I stood up at the same time. "I'm going with you," Stefan seemed a little reluctant but he eventually nodded.
"You two go deal with Elijah. Katherine will take us to the cure," Rebekah kept her blue eyes on the said brunette.
Katherine scoffed. "No, she won't. The cure is my one chance to win my freedom back from Klaus,"
Damon raised his eyebrows. "You're gonna broker a deal with Klaus?"
I shook my head, my eyes on Emmeline. "No. She's gonna get her sister to get Elijah to broker the deal for her,"
"That's why you need your little friend, isn't it? Some things never change, Katherine," Stefan said in disgust.
Damon glared at her. "Nope,"
"Do you even care for him?" I asked Emmeline.
She looked at me with teary eyes. "Andy, Klaus will kill Katherine. I'm doing this for her,"
I smacked her. "You don't even deserve to have Elijah look at you. Playing someone for the safety of your family doesn't make you a saint, and sure as hell doesn't make you a good sister," I turned and stormed out of the diner with tears pouring out of my eyes. How could she sleep with Elijah just to get him to save Katherine from Klaus?! That's the last thing Elijah deserves.
Stefan walked over to me. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine!" I snapped as I wiped my eyes. After a few seconds I sighed. "I shouldn't have snapped at you, I apologize... Klaus planned this trip so I could get away from all this crap, and Elijah pulled me right into it again."
"It's fine, Andy. I understand. We should go find Elijah and Elena now,"
Stefan was ringing Elijah from my phone on speaker. We went to the gazebo to find that they weren't there anymore, so we were trying plan B.
"Andrea?" Elijah questioned as he answered the phone.
Stefan spoke, gesturing to me to remain quiet for a moment. "Hello, Elijah,"
Elijah paused for a moment. "Where is Andrea?"
"Where's Elena?"
"Safe. How long she remains so depends upon you,"
"Well, I guess the same goes for Katherine, Emmeline, and Andy,"
"Oh, Katherine and Emmeline can take care of themselves and Andy against the two of you,"
"Oh you mean the three of us. 'Cause your little sister decided to join Team Good Guys for the time being," Stefan said.
"Good?" I scoffed.
"Quiet, Andy," Stefan ordered and turned his back to me.
"Do not speak to her like that again," Elijah spoke calmly, but I could tell he wasn't. "Now... put Rebekah on the phone."
"I'm afraid I can't do that. Rebekah, well, she's not here right now. I left her with Damon, Katherine and Emmeline."
Elijah paused for a second. "Tell me where they are,"
They? He didn't even care to ask where I was? Then again, I did have a guarantee of life, since the Salvatores wouldn't hurt me to damage Elena further. My doppelgänger and her sister, however, would be killed in a split second.
"Relax. No one's gonna get hurt as long as Katherine and Emmeline hand over the cure," Stefan said as he faced me again.
Elijah scoffed. "Do you understand how much my sister despises Katherine and Emmeline? I assure you, Rebekah will end them both the moment they cease to be of use,"
"Well, just tell me where you are, and we can talk this through,"
"You listen to me very carefully, Stefan. If anything whatsoever happens to Katherine or Emmeline, I will descend upon Elena. I think you know if Andrea is hurt I will descend upon you and your brother," Elijah threatened before we heard the dial tone. We stood in disbelief there for a moment before I shoved Stefan.
"Who the hell do you think you are, Stefan?!" I demanded. "Using us try to get him to listen? Not the best plan!"
Stefan handed me my phone back and scratched his head. "I'm going to go find Damon, figure this out. Are you going to come?"
I gave him short really look before shaking my head. "I'm done helping you guys, Stefan, especially for Elena. I simply followed you here to this gazebo to find my traveling companion, but now I realize I'd have a better chance on my own... Good luck with my sister." I put my hands in my coat pockets and walked away from him.
I started strolling around town, my mind not really on any particular thing, when I saw Elijah and Elena in an alley. Just my luck. Elijah was speaking. "Well, the writer sounds positively gifted. I'm sure he meant what he wrote," He said.
"I'm sure he did. And it felt good to watch that letter burn, along with my old life and along with Jeremy's body," Elena said in a monotone.
"Elijah?" I questioned, ignoring Elena sitting on a back doorway.
"Andrea," Elijah exhaled and we hurried over to the other and threw our arms around each other.
"Why didn't you tell me where you were going?" I asked as I buried my head in his neck.
"I'm sorry, I didn't think you would want to see them," He said as he kissed my head.
I pulled back to look him in the eyes. "I didn't, but it would've been nice to know," I said, then I suddenly realized something. "You were still trying to get the cure after it killed my brother and caused Kol's death?"
"I was doing it for you, Andrea. All of it was for you," He insisted, his eyes going to Elena.
I looked away with a slight frown, but didn't comment on it anymore.
"So you ran off with Elijah?" Elena questioned from behind me. "I was so sure you'd get with Klaus. After all, you call out his name in your sleep."
I wouldn't let her get to me. She wasn't worth it.
"I mean, hell, I think we all know who's healthier for us. Klaus did kill our aunt and the mayor—"
Thankfully my phone rang and successfully cut her off. I pulled it from my pocket and stared at Elijah with mixed emotions when I saw Klaus' name on the caller ID. "This is Andy," I said as I brought it up to my ear.
"Andy?"
"Caroline? Why do you have Klaus' phone?" I asked, my heart beginning to throb in my chest as I thought something might have happened to him.
"Something's wrong, but I can't help him, Andy, and he wanted you,"
"Put him on the phone now,"
"Andy... " I heard Klaus' broken voice a second later, and my heart broke.
"Klaus, what's wrong? Are you hurt? Did they hurt you? Please talk to me and tell me you're okay," I asked a string of questions as I turned away from Elijah and felt myself growing panicked. I was afraid that something had happened to him while I was gone, but I hadn't felt anything.
"Silas. He attacked me. He stabbed me with the white oak stake. A piece of it—is still inside me," I could hear in his voice he was beginning to flip out. A panic attack was coming on, and the faint whimper I heard from him confirmed it. I needed to distract him, and quickly, even if I didn't quite understand why I didn't feel that he was hurt.
"Klaus, do you remember at the ball?" I asked. "Where we danced and you were a complete gentleman?"
"Yes, I do," He answered softly.
"You were so handsome that night, you really were. I remember thinking that there was no one that could match you, even Kol," I chuckled lightly. "But do you want to know when I knew that I could never hate you?"
"When?"
"In Portland. When we were on our way there, and that flight attendant was flirting with you... I called her a bimbo and you asked what that was. Admittedly at the time I didn't particularly admire you, but looking back in you, that was the first time I felt comfortable around you," I reached up to my locket he had given me and squeezed it in my hand. "It was the first time I felt something with you." There was a long moment of silence, we frightened me greatly.
"Klaus?" I finally questioned in a panic.
"It's gone," He whispered.
"What?"
"The pain," He paused for a second. "The-the pain is gone... It was-it was never there. He got in my head. Silas... got inside my head," Klaus exhaled. "You took my mind off it. You brought me back, Andy."
"Klaus... " I exhaled in relief that he was okay. Turning back around, I saw Elijah staring hard at the ground and Elena watching me with interest. "I am so happy you are okay, but I need to go. Something's going on, but call me if you need me for anything, okay?"
"Okay,"
I hung up and put my phone up, looking back at Elijah. He looked up at me with pain. "Are you okay?" I asked in a small voice and went to go place my hand on his arm but was interrupted by a cracking noise. Turning, we saw Elena on the ground with Emmeline and Katherine standing behind her.
Katherine smirked at us. "Sorry. We got held up."
I sat on a park bench across the street as Elijah spoke to Katherine and Emmeline in the alleyway. Elijah said I could stay if I wanted, but I didn't feel like being over there with them, so I decided to sit by myself.
As I sat there. I pondered over what Klaus had said to me. I had brought him back. That was something that made my stomach do a flip because I found it incredibly cliche for a love story like those novels my mom had used to read. The only problem was this love story had two men and one woman in it rather than one man and one woman. Sooner or later, she would have to choose.
I focused back on Elijah and them to see that he was walking towards me but Emmeline stopped him. He looked upset and she said something that upset him even more so he sped over to me.
"What did she say?" I asked him.
"We should go get dinner," He murmured before starting to walk. I decided not to push my luck and go along with him. I didn't needed to ask questions, I understood he was upset because Emmeline had done something dumb, no doubt he figured out she was using him. I just wish it had been me to tell him, though that could've made it better or worst.
After an awkward dinner of not much talking, Elijah and I started to slowly walk back to the car. I had wrapped my arm around his waist and he put his around my shoulder. "How are you feeling?" I asked as we continued moving.
"Hurt, I suppose," He exhaled.
"Why did you go back to her, if you don't mind me asking?" I looked up at him.
"It wasn't because I'm in love with her," He paused for a moment and looked down at me. "It was because I was in love with you, and I thought she could sway my feelings from you. I came to care for her again, but I couldn't forget you."
I remembered he had mentioned to me before that he didn't think I would be someone he could easily forget. "You know you know exactly what to say to make a girl swoon?" I questioned as I rested my head on his shoulder. He was only a few inches taller, so it wasn't that difficult.
He sighed and placed a kiss on my head. "Not enough, I suppose. I saw your expression during your conversation with Klaus,"
"I told you, I don't want to talk about him, Eli," I looked up at him with a weary look. "This is our vacation." Before he could respond, Emmeline walked up to us, but Elijah continued to walk past her.
"Wait," She pleaded and I squeezed Elijah's hand. He took it as a sign that he should, so we stopped and turned to face her.
"What do you want?" Elijah demanded.
Emmeline was reluctant to speak with me around but she gave in when Elijah pulled me close to my side. "To tell you that you're right. I've spent so much time running and lying just to survive that I don't- I'm starting to believe my own lies. I don't even remember who I was when we first met. And I want to find out," She reached into her purse and pulled out the small box.
"You have the cure," I said before I could stop myself.
Emmeline nodded, her eyes full of sorrow. "Yeah. And I can shove this down Klaus' throat and try to kill him, but even if I manage to do it... I'd lose you, Elijah. And I don't want that to happen,"
Elijah started to get emotional, squeezing my hand tight. "How do I know this isn't another lie? Katherine and Emmeline Pierce deceiving yet another man,"
Emmeline took his free hand and put the box into it, holding hers over it. "Because I meant what I said about my feelings for you. And I'd like to think that you feel something for me, too. I need you to trust me. I want you to trust me... Just like I'm trusting you. You don't owe me anything. I'm gonna let you decide where we go from here."
Emmeline passed him and walked away. Elijah and I both looked at each other before he opened the box. We stared at the cure for a few moments before he closed the box.
"We should go back to Mystic Falls now, shouldn't we?" I murmured to him.
"Only if you want to, Andrea. I would never force you to go," He said instantly.
I smiled wearily and placed my hand on his cheek. "I know, that's why we are heading back," I leaned up and pecked his lips.
He smiled back at me and pulled me back in for another kiss before we crossed the street holding each other's hands. As we approaches our car, I noticed Rebekah sat on the hood. She hopped down from her perch as we came closer. "You and Emmeline? And I thought you were the smart brother," She commented.
Elijah glanced at me. "You don't have a smart brother. It turns out I'm just as stupid as the rest of you,"
Rebekah sighed. "Why don't you just give me the cure so I can judge you silently elsewhere?"
"And what could you possibly want with the cure?" Elijah clenched it tighter in his hands.
"I want to be human again,"
"How do you know that being human is the answer you're looking for? I mean, it's nothing but a romantic notion. The grass won't necessarily be greener, Rebekah," Elijah pointed out to her.
"You're probably right. But I don't care. I want to live a simple life as a normal person. And when it ends, it ends. We've had 20 lifetimes together, Elijah. Isn't that enough?"
Elijah shook his head. "I just don't understand. I mean, why must you always consider our family a burden? Always and forever. I mean, those words are as important to me today as they—as they ever were,"
"You will always be my brother. And I will never stop loving you. But now it's time for me to live and die the way that I choose, not the way you and Nik want me to. Please. Please just give me the cure," Rebekah looked at me with teary eyes. "Andy, please tell him."
Elijah and I looked at each other, both of us a little uncertain. Thankfully Rebekah's phone started ringing, saving us from answering. She dug it out of her bag and answered it. "What do you want, Nik?"
There was a pause before she spoke. "Let's just say that things have gotten complicated. In fact, why don't you speak to one of those complications? Here," She handed the phone to Elijah and walked around to the other side of the car. She got into the passenger side of the car. Elijah and I glanced at each other again before getting into the car as well. I took the backseat.
"Complication speaking," Elijah said into the phone. "Somebody had to take charge. And now that I have, I've got the cure and I'm bringing it back to Mystic Falls, along with Andrea... Not that long."
Elijah stayed on the phone for a moment longer before hanging up. He looked back at me in the rear view mirror. "Are you sure, Andrea?"
I nodded and looked out the window. I wasn't going to act pathetic anymore and I was going to get over everything. With Elijah having the cure, now wouldn't be a good time to mourn.
