Poison & Wine - Epilogue

Klaus glanced down at his watch for the umpteenth time that day before returning his gaze to the airport gate.
She promised noon, so here he was, two days later just so he could see her.
Honestly, he was a little surprised Andy had revealed her feelings the night of the prom and felt like her words were a good-bye so he left to go to Mew Orleans where he discovered the wolf Hayley he had had sex with was pregnant. Still, that didn't surprise him more than when Andy had agreed to go with him. He thought he had lost her after he killed Carol Lockwood, but then her brother died and she seemed to like having him around but not as a conversation companion. It was his presence that seemed to make her feel better in that time.
Another thing to add onto that is Elijah. Every woman Klaus had come in contact with drooled over the man, and Andy doesn't seem like she would be the one to, but she did. She stared at Elijah with wonder and admiration while he only saw hurt in her eyes when she looked at him... Except for that moment two days ago. Instead of always looking like a wounded puppy whenever he was around, she looked like she had forgotten all of that. When he told her that Tyler Lockwood was free to return to Mystic Falls, she looked at him like he was the best person in the world and he ate that up. He could see the love in her eyes, he could see her look at him with that look he had seen between so many lovers. And then when he started to walk away, she yanked him back and the look she gave him... Andrea Gilbert was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen, despite her "plain appearance" that others would describe her as. She was that ethereal beauty, and he was ever so lucky to be close to her.
Klaus recalled the times they had, good and bad. For the longest times she was fighting against him and didn't want to admit that they weren't just friends. It frustrated him to no end because there had been many a night that he wanted to be with her, wrapped up in her arms and kiss her like no other.
It was safe to say he would never not want her. She was the only one he saw anymore, even in that bloody moment of weakness where he allowed himself to be with that wolf Hayley. He saw Andy when he looked at Hayley despite no resemblance. He took Hayley imagining she was Andy and as soon as it was over he regretted it. He was just going to make the wolf leave when Andy walked in, acting like a jealous girlfriend. That's when he realized he hadn't lost her despite the fact right afterward she was all over Elijah in her sports bra before then preceding to tell him that she didn't want to go on a mini-vacation with him. He was hurt by that but it didn't phase him too much because he knew Andy couldn't just move on so quickly after seeing her act so jealous.
What he was currently worried with was the fact of explaining to Andy that he was going to be a father because she had decided she wanted to be with him. It was going to be something she would smack him for, but Elijah insisted she'd understand. Klaus was convinced by his brother that she would understand though be a little hurt by it.
Another er thing that puzzled Klaus was why Elijah was okay with Andy coming to New Orleans after she broke his heart and the fact he was still acting like a heartbroken fool, maybe it was because he wanted to be near her. Whatever it was, Elijah clearly still needed time to move on from the girl but he was the one to convince Klaus to give her the plane ticket and tell her about the baby. A part of him did feel bad for his brother, but Klaus knew that Elijah didn't feel on the same level that he felt... If Andy had told Klaus that she wanted to be with Elijah, he would emotionally die. Every last shred of humanity he might have left would be destroyed and he would kill every last human in the world. Heartbreak does not look good on him.
Klaus' thoughts went to his unborn child. It was true that he had imagined many times over if it had been Andy he'd slept with. He could just imagine her with his child and every time he did that he wanted to smile. Of course, there were those haunting memories when he had impregnated Anastasia and then caused the miscarriage of their child, but he wouldn't let that happen because he had never loved Anastasia as much as he did Andy, no matter how impossible that might used to have been. He had moved on from Anastasia and all of the horrible things he had done to her that led her to kill herself.
He went stiff as that thought came to mind. He had hurt Anastasia so much it drove her mad... What if he hurt Andy one more time and it finally broke her? She had already been hurt so many times before, physically from the daggers and mentally from loosing all those people. Klaus vowed that he would protect her no matter what and ensure that she never met Anastasia's fate.
Glancing back down at his watch he saw it was nearing twelve. Just a few more minutes and I'll have her here with me, he thought to himself with a smile. What was wrong with him? He was acting like a giddy school boy.
He let his mind wander to the past couple days. Once Kol and he returned, his younger brother had been sworn to behave. He was told the rules that Marcel followed and threatened to be daggered again for a couple of decades if he didn't abide them. Klaus had a feeling he'd have to use it since Kol was never one for following rules. Truthfully, when Klaus is - not if - the King of the Quarter, he could switch it up, but that will take time.
Klaus pondered if Andy would ever want children. She didn't seem like the type, but she had so many different preferences he was unsure. They hadn't even ever discussed it. But, if she did want them, she'd probably want them down the road after she attended college. There was also the vampire thing to consider. She seemed to have no interest in transitioning, but Klaus could see her as one. Plus he'd be able to spend an eternity with her and that would be more than he could ever ask for. Any man would be the luckiest to have her. Fortunately that man was now him.
The time hit twelve and as if on cue people began coming out of the gate. He stood anxiously, feeling his hands tremor as he stared on at the gate, waiting to see those brown curls...
But they never came.
At first as he looked on and saw all the people had gone, he simply assumed that she had gotten held up... But then they closed the gates. Klaus hurried over to the gates to ask a female flight attendant if that was a flight from Virginia. He felt sick when he heard the answer from her.
He slowly backed away and hurried away from it. He felt like he had been punched in the gut as he tossed the flowers he'd picked up in the trash. He had waited an hour here just in case she'd gotten here early, and she ended up not showing up. He should've known she would never be able to be with him. He should've known that it was never going to be.
He stormed out of the airport and immediately headed home, holding back his feelings on the entire way there. Once he arrived, he went to his study to be alone but Elijah was there waiting for him. "Where is Andrea?" He asked as he looked up from his seat in the chair. Klaus glared at him before pouring himself a drink.
"I'd like to be alone right now," He said in a harsh tone as crossed the room to look out the window.
"She didn't end up showing up?"
"No, she didn't, brother. Andy Gilbert played me," He turned to look at him with a bitter expression. He walked over to his desk and pulled out an item and hid it before Elijah was able to see what it was. "She made me believe she loved me and then made me think she actually wanted to be with me. She stood me up. She lied to me." He threw his glass across the room and screamed, grabbing his head. It felt like he was being tortured, all he could see was her face and hear her laugh in his head. He felt like she had stabbed him with the white oak stake.
"Niklaus, I do not believe Andrea would ever―"
"Shut up! You're blind if you think that, brother," He growled. "Besides, she told you straight up she didn't love you, correct? At least she had the decency to tell you!"
"Niklaus... " Elijah stepped towards him and placed his hands on his shoulders. "Andrea would never do this to you. Surely there is a purpose for her actions. We should call and if she does not answer, call Rebekah."
Klaus scoffed and shoved his brother's hands off. "Call Rebekah? She wants nothing to do with any of this, you know as well as I do."
"Rebekah may surprise us yet. After all, we all swore the same vow,"
Klaus walked over and poured himself another drink before downing it and sitting the empty glass down. He turned towards Elijah and slowly inched his hands to his back pocket to make sure he had the item in his pocket. He had his it in his desk in the study just as a precaution. "I hope she along with Andy - whatever her reasons for breaking my heart - stay far away," He hissed as he got closer to Elijah who had a solemn look. "Because in my desire to reclaim this town, to steal from Marcel that which he holds most dear, I have realized one massive vulnerability. One weakness that Marcel could exploit."
Elijah looked at him with uncertainty. "And what is that?"
"You," Without a second thought Klaus drove the silver dagger through Elijah's heart, causing a groan to escape his lips. He looked into his brother's eyes that were filled with pain and felt a part of him hurt. "Forgive me, my brother. There is no power in love. Mercy makes you weak. Family makes you weak. If I am going to win this war, I have to do it alone," He thought for a moment. "Besides, Andy deserves to feel what I'm feeling, no matter her reasons." He let Elijah's body fall before he went and poured himself another glass knowing fully well that he would have to get his older brother to Marcel before his younger one returned from a trip to the pub.
Still, only one thing was on his mind. How could I make her suffer like she made me?

The End of Poison & Wine
So that's it! That's the end of Poison & Wine! As you can see, the sequel won't have as happy air as air as the last chapter. And I can go ahead and tell you this: Klaus isn't going to be seeking revenge on Andy. He has bigger problems (taking over from Marcel and his unborn child). I'll let you guys know when I post the sequel!
