I've finally updated this! I feel so...accomplished...because I have typed and retyped and deleted this chapter like a gazillion times already, and I felt like flipping over a table every time I didn't get something right...but yes, that is all behind me now...until I write the next chapter... :D

But, sorry for the two-month-long wait. Seriously, I truly apologize for that.

Hope you enjoy this chapter!

Disclaimer: I do not own Fairy Tail!

Dear Journal,

It's been a few weeks since I transferred to Sabertooth.

I've seen no one from Fairy Tail.

And I have to keep reminding myself that that's a GOOD thing.

I don't have any friends.

Because I'm the daughter of the Heartfilias, people just leave me alone.

They're probably scared I'm going to snap or something, and say, "How dare you associate yourself with moi! L'horreur! Éloignez-vous de moi, vous crasse!"

(French for 'The horror! Stay away from me, you filth!')

I'm going to stray away from the:

I miss Fairy Tail! And…

I wonder how Natsu and the others are feeling…

And of course 'I miss Levy and Cana…'

…for now and focus on the interesting things of life…

Anyways, there are two people that really catch my eye.

Hughes Zentopia and his twin sister Mary Hughes Zentopia.

They each have their own unique personality, and their dad's business's profits – Earthland to Edolas Corps. – have been rivaling with the profits of Heartfilia Industries for a while now.

Despite that, Jude Heartfilia and Marco Zentopia have been close for as long as I can remember.

You could call the Zentopia children and me childhood friends, but the truth is that we've never even talked to one another.

All I can really remember is sitting at a table in a stiff dress, and staring at Hughes as he managed to get through dinner while playing on his phone.

Next to him would be Mary, trying to make it seem like she understood the grown-up talk going on.

Since I had always found Hughes as a more interesting observation subject than Mary, I know a lot of things about him.

I'm just kidding.

I know nothing about him.

Just that he says 'like' and 'whoa' when he hears something amazing (which is rare), and that he's more or less reckless.

He's the sportsy type, and his hair is untamed.

There's this white streak that pierces through his otherwise deep purple hair, and he has these really weird arrow-shaped eyebrows.

The only time I've ever talked to him was when I was over at his house when I was seven for a business dinner.

I asked him for a piece of his chocolate bar, and he called me a 'gross girl whose dress is really ugly'.

He almost hasn't changed over the years – except for the obvious fact that he's grown just…a bit…a tad…a lot…cuter.

Whenever I see him in the hallway, he's wearing headphones around his neck, a pure white sweater, and Sabertooth's uniform's pants, rolled up to his knees.

Hughes is probably the only person in the entire school who doesn't follow the academy's strict dress code.

Mary often scolds him for it, but during those kinds of times, he just pulls up his headphone and pretends he's listening to his music.

I'm sure he remembers me.

But we're not exactly friends.

So he doesn't address me.

But I'm craving for a friend.

And to want to befriend a guy who had called me gross and insulted my fashion years before is seriously desperate.

But, anyways…

This morning, I was sitting by myself in the classroom when I felt a presence loom over me.

When I looked up, my heart beat faster when I saw that it was Mary.

Maybe she was finally reaching out to the lonesome new girl who spent her free time in school by herself, reading old issues of mangas from way back in the-

"The teacher asked me to give this to you," she said blandly, dropping off a worksheet on my desk and traipsing off.

I felt my hopes plummet and crash. I looked down at the math problems swimming around in my vision, and groaned.

I had been getting piles of homework everyday so that I could catch up with the rest of the students.

There were circles around my eyes, and every morning when I woke up, I felt depleted of energy.

"Do you want help on those?"

"No, thanks, Hughes," I replied, sighing as I picked up my pencil and-

"ASDFGHJKL!" I screeched, almost falling off my chair.

Said boy looked down at me, his purple bangs falling in front of his eyes, as he fingered the headphones worn around his neck.

His right hand was tucked into his uniform pants' pocket.

He smiled brightly. "You sure about that?"

"I-I'm pr-pretty s-sure!"

I looked down at the paper.

My head began to ache.

"A-all r-right…n-not so s-sure, a-anymore."

He let out a puff of air, and smiled meaningfully. "Are you an idiot?"

My cheeks grew hot. "I-I'm n-not…j-just b-because y-you're t-top of the cl-class-!"

"I don't condescend people…if that's what you're thinking," he said in a chipper tone as he pulled out a random chair, and sat in it backwards so that the back of the chair pressed against his chest.

He leaned over the worksheet, and a light smell of lavender and clean laundry wafted up to my nostrils.

"Y-you smell super nice," I said.

He looked up at me suddenly, and smiled widely. "You're such a perv."

The heck? I had just complimented him and yet-

"I won't ever take that as a compliment, Lucy," he said, yawning loudly and propping his head up with his hand.

I looked at him suspiciously. Could this guy be a mind reader?

"I don't read minds."

Bunnies. Bunnies wearing top hats. Bunnies wearing top hats and mustaches! Bunnies wearing top hats and mustaches and strumming guitars as they sing country music!

"Are you…thinking about bunnies wearing top hats and mustaches and strumming guitars as they sing country music?"

Telepathy!

"This isn't telepathy, Lucy…" Hughes said, smiling. "You're just…"

I leaned forward to hear his words.

"An idiot who I can read really easily."

The words slammed down on me. Idiot? Idiot?! IDIOT?!

"I'll have you know, I always get perfect marks on my perfect cards, and a score that's always, always close to one hundred on my tests, and I rank super high on those examinations because I pull all nighters studying my ass off! Okay?! My logic is pretty clear when I want it to be, and even though I read manga and watch anime every weekend, I also take some weekends to read classic books, all right?! Just because you're more perceptive than does not give you the privilege to scoff me and call me an idiot!"

Hughes grinned. "You've got to applaud me. I had you climb out of that pitiful shell of yours. I never realized you were so harsh, Lu-tan."

I paled at the nickname. "That's…disgusting. My name is Lucy."

"Lucille."

"Lucy."

"Lucas."

"What?!"

"How about Lu-chi?"

I scowled. "That sounds a little too close to Luigi. Enough with your ugly nicknames."

"Ugly is a strong word."

"But you didn't think twice before using it to describe my dress."

Hughes looked bewildered for a moment. And then his face split into a comical grin.

"You're still sulking over that?"

"I'm not."

"You are. You are."

"I'M NOT!"

"YOU. ARE."

I clenched my jaw and turned away.

"Look, I'm so sorry for insulting that disgusting thing you called a dress. And that I called you gross. What do you expect? I was a little kid. And I had a crush on you at the time."

I froze.

"Wait. Repeat what you just said."

"Look, I'm so sorry-"

"Not the whole thing, you dumbass! Just the last thing."

"Time."

"The last sentence you said!"

"I was a little kid."

I clapped my hand to my face. "The last fragment you said."

"And I had a crush on you at the time."

"Yes, that!" I said, shaking him. "You don't just drop something like that on someone."

"Well, I did," Hughes said lazily, and then looked at me.

He scooted closer. The whole math assignment thing was long forgotten.

"Haven't you ever fallen in love before, Lucy?"

I felt my face grow hot. Natsu's face popped into my mind. Gray's confession popped into my mind. Sting's careful words popped into my mind.

But mostly Natsu. Hot Natsu. Insensitive Natsu. Kind Natsu. Funny Natsu. In love with Sue Natsu.

"Why d-do you even care?" I said in an extremely robotic voice.

Hughes grinned, and reached out with his hand. His fingers played with a strand of my bangs lightly, and then out of nowhere, his smile twitched and he pulled my golden locks painfully.

He mouthed something that I couldn't perceive.

"Wh-what?"

"Nothing."

He drew back.

"Who is it? Your first love?"

I felt my face grow hot.

"No one you know."

"Is it a Fairy?"

The heat spread to my fingers, chest, and stomach. My legs tingled next.

"Look how red you've gotten. You're like a tomato…with yellow leaves."

"My hair is golden. Blonde," I said in a hoarse whisper.

Hughes tilted his head, his eye twitching and his grin mischievous. "What is the hair color of your first love, Lucy?"

Salmon. Pink. Salmon. Pink. Salmon. Black? Blonde, as well. Purple?! Salmon.

"I don't know!" I blurted out instead.

Hughes exhaled through his nose, shaking his head. "You really are an idiot? How could someone be so unobservant?"

I felt my face become a roaring fire. "You're so…irritating."

He smiled.

If only that could have been the end of everything…

After school, he wrapped his arm around my shoulders, and smiled.

I'm beginning to hate it when he does that - smile I mean. Mary sauntered behind us, immersed in a book with a really long title…that was in some kind of foreign language.

But anyways...

I wanted to grab onto the nearest person, and say any one of the following statements:

This guy's going to beat me up. Help me.

This guy says you're ugly. Feel free to punch his face in.

This guy? You know this guy. You hate this guy. Beat him up.

SAVE ME!

The last option sounded good. Really good.

"Shout save me, and I'll call you WooWooLuLu for the rest of our high school lives."

He reads minds. He reads minds!

"I'm not a mind reader."

"Stop saying my thoughts aloud!"

"Then stop being easy to read."

We turned a corner, and that was when my heart almost stopped.

Sue was there, walking and chatting with her friends.

I stopped in my tracks, and when she saw me…it was as if I had just crossed the path of a polar bear shark tiger lion panther cheetah jaguar creature.

I considered running the other way.

"Lucy," Sue said, smiling.

Do I need to get new glasses or something? Did my bad vision just warp Sue's scowl into a smile?

I rubbed my lenses.

Oh Mavis.

The smile was still there.

This was like a horror movie. I'd rather have a growling, lava-spewing head cheerleader than one who's smiling and pretending like we're friends who haven't seen-

"We haven't seen each other for a long time, friend," she said, smiling.

If there was ever a moment where I needed Hughes's telepathy power, it was now.

She's going to kill me.

She's going to kill me.

She's going to kill me.

It's my fault she and her boyfriend broke up.

It's my fault she and her boyfriend broke up.

It's my fault she and her boyfriend broke up.

It's my fault she and her boyfriend broke up!

Sue approached me.

"Aww, a little shy-?"

"Stay three feet away at all times," Hughes said, tilting his head one way. "B*tch."

Sue's eyes grew wide. I could already see her growing ferocious.

"Run," Hughes said bluntly.

Before I could even react, he was taking me by the hand and sprinting back in the direction when he had just come from.

As we passed Mary, he patted her shoulder, and said, "I'll leave this to you, middle school karate champion."

His sister sighed, tucking her novel back into her bag, and going towards whatever her brother had caused.

We continued to run.

Down streets, around corners, down alleys, and past people walking their dogs…until we somehow arrived at my house.

Breathing hard and fast, I slumped to the ground, shaking my head.

"I knew it…you really do…read minds."

I could sense Hughes sinking down to the ground before me.

I flinched a little as his hand slid onto the top of my head.

When I looked up, I was awestruck by the genuine smile that was plastered onto his face.

"Are you an idiot?" he said. "You're just really easy to read."

I looked down at the ground.

"You should have seen your face."

"It must have been hilarious."

"It was."

I smiled, and lifted my head.

Hughes ruffled my hair, paused, and in a swift movement, he placed his headphones over my ears.

I couldn't hear anything.

I watched as his mouth moved as he told me something.

But this time I got it. I got what he said.

Still, with the headphones over my ears, I couldn't hear my own voice as I repeated back what he had just mouthed to me.

"You're really glad that I relied on you?"

And, miraculously, Hughes's whole face grew red in disbelief.

Signed,

Lucy

That escalated quickly. I think I've said this before, but my favorite Fairy Tail villain (seriously...FAVORITE) is Hughes. The male. I loved the Edolas arc a lot because it was so much fun, and I loved Natsu VERSUS Hughes! C:
