It was a sunny day.
On the rooftop of a building, drenched in bright sunlight, a lone girl could be seen standing near the red-colored guard rail. From this position, the majority of the town could be seen. It was lunch break now, and from the grey uniform she was wearing, one could easily tell she was studying at Karakura High. The reason why she was here, was still unknown. However, it was clear that her mind did not stay with her body now.
At the moment, the blonde girl was thinking about a certain incident happened few years ago - nine to be exact. Any normal sixteen year old girls would probably have forgotten what had happened when they were seven. They would rather spend their free time with their best friends, boyfriend, or any other activities they feel like doing, instead of reminiscing about the past. However, this girl, Sasari Yuuki, by no means was an ordinary high schoolgirl.
She had experienced a lot of things, especially since that certain day in winter nine years ago. She could not forget that day nor did she want to. Sasari Yuuki remembered it as clear as if it just happened to her yesterday.
Her twin high pigtail fluttered as a light breeze suddenly blew. Instead of straightening her hair up, she let it be, showing a single streak of red in each of her pigtail. She was too deep in her thought.
That day, she woke up with unfamiliar desert as her surrounding. Everything around her looked unnatural. It felt so different from the colorful world she was living at before. Even the crescent moon on top of her head was giving a dull light.
"Um, hello there, Mr. Giant Fox. Where are we?"
From that point on, a relationship between Sasari Yuuki and the nine-tailed giant fox which she later found out was named Kyuubi, has been formed.
Being smart as she was, Sasari quickly learned a lot of things in short amount of time. The place she was now at, was called Hueco Mundo, the giant fox's home. Other than that, she also got a lot of information about hollows, shinigamis, and Soul Society from Kyuubi. The giant fox taught her well, and that included some fighting techniques so that she didn't have to rely on someone else.
Everything around her was fine, but it was only until a year later.
That moment, Sasari was balancing her hands while riding on Kyu-kun's, the nickname she gave him, back. The giant fox was running through Menos Forest before suddenly it let out a frightening growl. Feeling nervous, Sasari decided to ask Kyuubi directly about it.
"What's wrong, Kyu-kun?"
"Brat, how many times I told you not to call me that? I'll let it slip this time since we have a few cockroaches on our trail."
Upon hearing the fox's brief explanation, Sasari turned her body one hundred and eighty degrees, only to see a few Adjuchas, two Gillians, and a bunch of regular hollows lead by a Vasto Lorde behind them. It was not a pretty sight.
"Why are we running then? You rule this forest, right? You should be able to put this rebellion to rest."
"Of course it is within my abilities. However, I have no desire to risk your safety."
A light blush covered her face. No one has ever said those kind words to her before. After spending about an entire year together, Sasari saw this giant fox as her older brother figure, someone she never had when she was still alive.
"Listen, they have us cornered. I shall fight them. Now, Sasari, I need you to lean as close as possible to my back. My fur should keep you from being spotted."
She gave an understanding nod and did as she was told. She leaned down and prayed for their safety.
Despite not being able to clearly see her surrounding because of her current position, Sasari could feel that Kyuubi was slowing down until he came to a stop. It seemed the giant fox was ready to face their enemies.
"It would seem 'Kyuubi-sama' has strayed too far away from home. Please allow us to escort you back."
A somewhat creepy voice entered her hearing. Although she could not be sure about it, Sasari guessed it was the Vasto Lorde who spoke just now.
"I don't like trashes to be in my presence for too long." Kyuubi replied in disgust before continuing, "For you to even think that I would like to see that ugly thing you call a face is a crime."
"What do you expect? An angel? Though I don't think they will help you."
"Unlike you, I won't need a miracle."
Right after saying those words, Kyuubi shot a cero that he had secretly charged up toward the Vasto Lorde. However, it didn't hit its target. The Vasto Lorde dodge it but it didn't mean that attack was for naught. It hit two of the Adjuchas and completely annihilated them into nothing.
That fight would be the very reason which set Sasari Yuuki on the path she walked today.
"Sari-Chan! What are you doing here? And why are you covering your eyes? Did you get hurt by any chances? Or perhaps, you are feeling unwell...? Maybe I should take you to the nurse...!?"
The voice became louder and louder as panic started to seep in. Without any need to see where the voice was coming from, Sasari knew who its owner was. She recognize the tone used in her voice all too well. After all, they had been classmates for a few months by now.
The long-haired blonde slowly put her hands down and shook her head.
"No, I'm fine Hime-Chan. Don't worry, I was thinking about the past." Her voice trailed off as it was not a good memory to remember. However, to make sure her friend wouldn't notice that, Sasari put on a smile on her lips.
"I knew what you were thinking about," Orihime started off sadly, "but that's what I'm here for! To make you super happy!" She paused again, then finished happily, "Like me!"
"Aww! Your so adorable Hime-Chan! I wish I could just eat you up!" Sasari yelled while rubbing her cheek against hers. They both giggled in each other's arms.
Just a moment of happiness, and Orihime suddenly leaned away from her and asked.
"Sari-Chan... D-do you feel that?"
Her voice was tinged with a bit of nervousness. It made Sasari tense up and open her senses to see if she could feel the disturbance that bothered her friend. After confirming what it was, Sasari nodded her head.
'She always could sense better than me.' She thought.
"Come on Hime-Chan, let's go. You can watch your knight in shining grey uniform kick some ass!" She helped Orihime up and dusted her skirt off. Jumping on the guard rail and picking Orihime up bridal style, she pushed off and roof hopped towards their target.
"You don't have to carry me" Orihime said over the wind.
"I know! It just gives me confidence to know I have such a beautiful girl in my arms."
" Your such a perv." Orihime dead panned with a flat stare. All she got was a smile and wink in return. As they landed at their destination Sasari slowly let her down. There stood a hollow with a little girl in her arms. A sword appeared in her hands as she pointed it at the beast.
"Hime you get the girl, I'll destroy the hollow"
"Hai!"
Getting in a ready position I slowly started the countdown '3...2...1!'
Together we launched ourselves at the hollow.
