There, I said it, the thing that was truly bothering me. Could they accept all of me? Who I was and who I am now?
Jasper seemed to think they would accept me, but I wasn't sure, once bitten twice shy and all that.
"Well if they don't accept you, we will say they broke the treaty and tear them apart limb from limb," Leah stated as if that was the only course of action. I admired her loyalty to those she considered her family, and felt blessed to be considered a member of it.
"Or, we could not," Jacob said looking a tad worried for his mate, "Besides, I don't think they will reject any part of you, they loved you then and they love you now."
I smiled a little reluctantly, "Jasper said much the same."
Seth beamed, "Well then, what are you worried about? If Jasper has accepted you, then Alice will, if Alice does, she will convince the entire family that you belong with them, 'because she's seen it' and you will all live happily ever after, with lots of visits to your amazing friends at La Push."
He made it sound so simple, and really, it was. So why was I still scared?
Oh, yeah, that.
"I love that family so much," I admitted to them, "I'm not sure I can survive another rejection."
Leah and Jake looked at each other unsure of what to say.
Seth sighed, "Look Belle, I know you are scared, and you have every right to be, but I think you just have to go for it."
We stared at each other for a long time. His eyes were telling me to go for it and my heart agreed completely but my mind was still conflicted.
Seth seemed to understand my dilemma.
"If it helps any, I'm going to tell Lila about the wolves, about me, this weekend," He told me, "I'm petrified she'll run away but I love her too much not to tell her. She deserves all of me."
I started giggling and sobbing simultaneously. Seth had just summed up exactly what I was going through, and he wasn't even talking about me.
"Belle?" Jake questioned.
"Are you ok?" asked Leah at the same time.
I took a calming breath and smiled, "Yes, can I be there when you tell Lila?"
I wasn't sure if he would agree, it was a very private thing telling your imprint about your wolfish nature, but the smile he gave me was one of pure relief.
"That would be great," Seth breathed.
"Would you mind if I told her about me too?" I asked timidly, I knew I was pushing it, encroaching on his moment with his imprint, but I felt that if I could tell Lila without her freaking out then maybe, just maybe, I could tell the Cullen's.
Jake and Leah were watching our interaction with curiosity and apprehension.
"Of course," Seth replied, smiling, "She was yours before she was mine…wait she is mine now right?"
I scoffed, "No! Didn't you read the fine print? Before you can claim my friend, you must fight me to prove your strength, manliness and overall worthiness!"
Seth groaned while Jacob and Leah dissolved into laughter.
"Don't laugh guys! How am I supposed to beat her when she was trained by the Major himself?" Seth whined at them.
This only made them laugh harder.
"And here I thought you loved her!" I sighed dramatically, "I guess you aren't worthy of her then."
A growl was the only warning I had before being thrown over the back of the couch. I guess I should have expected that. Challenging a wolf's devotion to his imprint always made them angry.
Seth landed on top of me and growled through his human throat.
"Name the time and place, I'll be there," He said through gritted teeth.
"Now, out the back," I replied instantly. Seth was shocked for a moment before he leapt off me and strode purposefully outside.
I grinned; this was going to be so much fun. "Come on guys, I don't want you to miss the show," I called back to Jake and Leah as I stood and followed Seth out the door.
It was dark outside but that didn't matter. We could all see perfectly well.
I followed Seth to the small clearing in the forest behind the house. As soon as he entered the clearing he began stripping off, throwing his clothes towards the trees lining the edge. Then he shifted into his oversized sandy coloured wolf.
I leapt towards the centre of the clearing and landed in front of Seth.
"Rules are there are no rules," I said with a smile, "Jake and Leah will mediate."
I waited until he nodded before jumping 10 meters away from him.
"Ding ding!" Jake called, almost sarcastically, as he and Leah settled down by a tree at the edge of the clearing.
Seth launched himself at me before Jake had finished speaking. I dodged his attack before starting my own. As we fought I admired his skill; he wasn't falling for half of my ploys. I was having a great time and I think deep down, Seth was too.
In the end though, I won, as we both knew I would.
I had him pinned with my foot on his throat so that any movement from him would cut off his air supply. He admitted defeat by shifting back to his human form.
I jumped off him as he began to change.
As soon as he finished his change he began speaking.
"Belle please," Seth begged, "I'll do anything, please, I love her!"
"Oh sweetie," I said gently as I helped him up, "You don't have to do anything."
"What do you mean?" He replied worriedly.
I smiled, "I mean, Lila was yours from the day you imprinted. Why would I ruin the happiness of two of my most beloved friends?"
I heard Jake and Leah laughing behind me as Seth's mouth dropped open in disbelief.
"You mean I just fought you for nothing," He clarified.
I pretended to think about it for a moment, then nodded, "Yeah, pretty much."
Seth growled.
"You have to admit that was fun!" I grinned with my arms up in the universal sign for surrender.
He tried to keep growling but it's pretty hard to growl when you are trying not to smile.
"Come on," I laughed, "I'll make choc chip cookies for you all."
Seth just smiled and shook his head as Leah threw his clothes at him and Jake ruffled his hair as they walked past him.
The rest of the night was spent talking, laughing and eating cookies. It was the most relaxed I'd been since the Cullen's had arrived in Forks and I enjoyed every moment of it.
