Chapter 47-The Camera

Brian stood in front of his own house, waiting for Gumball, Darwin and Mike to get the camera rolling, as the purple fox nervously waited for them. Ever since he told them of his idea, his friends did the best they could to help Brian out. But the purple fox really wanted to make sure that the footage he had was enough to impress his old friends back at Folsom.

'Alright Brian, you can do this.' the purple fox thought to himself. 'Stay calm and this will be done in a snap.'

"Brian, you all set? We got the camera ready." Gumball called out to his friend, snapping him back to reality.

"Oh, um, yeah, I'm good." Brian nervously replied.

"Don't worry Brian, just be yourself and pretend that we're not here." Darwin suggested.

"Are you sure about that?" asked the purple fox.

"Just trust us on this and everything will be fine." Mike assured Brian, prompting him to take a deep breath, before he spoke directly to the camera. Mike pressed record just before Brian began to speak.

"Hey everyone, how's everything back in Folsom? It's been six months since I moved to Elmore and it turned out to be a fun place, despite the unusual events that I found myself in. Nevertheless, life in this town can be quite enjoyable. That said; let me give you guys a tour around the neighborhood."

It took a little longer than he thought, but Brian, along with his friends, were able to make it to the Watterson residence, as the purple fox resumed talking to the camera.

"As you can see, this house belongs to one of the first people I ever met since I moved here. Speaking of which, let me introduce to them."

Brian then gestured his paw to Mike, prompting the maroon badger to show Gumball and Darwin waving their hands right towards the camera, before turning the camera right back at the purple fox.

"In case you're wondering who they were, their names are Gumball and Darwin Watterson and the one who's currently filming this is Mike Badgero." Brian explained.

"If it's alright with you, I'd rather stay on this side of the camera." Brian looked questionably at Mike before he figured out why.

"Come on, don't be camera shy." Brian said as he grabbed Mike, ignoring his protests against it, and forced the camera on them. "This is Mike."

"H-Hi…" Mike said weakly as he was forced to face the camera. Brian let go and Mike didn't hesitate to point the camera at anything but him. "I hate you, Brian." An embarrassed Mike said with a smile.

"Anyway…" Brian began, prompting Mike to turn the camera back to the purple fox. "As I was saying, this place has it quirks, but it's otherwise normal."

Suddenly, the boys could hear a loud explosion from within the Watterson residence, as fire was spewing out from the kitchen, much to their surprise. Before long, Nicole, Richard and Anais immediately dashed out of their house, their bodies covered in soot.

"Yep. Nothing out of the ordinary here." Mike commented, as he pointed the camera at the soot covered Wattersons.

"Richard! I told you not to increase the temperature on the oven!" the older, blue feline scolded her husband.

"I was just trying to warm up lunch quicker." Richard adamantly insisted.

"Dad, we know you meant well, but maybe you should pay attention to the instructions next time." Anais lectured her father.

As the three argued with one another, all Brian could do is shake his head in disbelief, annoyed that the camera filmed the unexpected outcome.

"Let's just move on." the purple fox bluntly stated.

"But this is gold!" Mike whined while laughing.

"MOVE!" Brian ordered, as he began to question whether it was a good idea to make Mike the camera man.

After getting far away from the Watterson residence as they could, Brian led his friends to the park, hoping that the next scene would fare much better.

"Sorry about the sudden change of scenery, you guys. I just want to make up for what happened back in the neighborhood. That aside, welcome to the park, where most of the time, I usually just relax and play a game of basketball every now and then."

"Are you sure that's all you're going to say?" Gumball asked the purple fox. "It would be a lot more interesting if you just mention-"

Suddenly, Brian covered the blue feline's mouth, before he resumed talking once more.

"Gumball is just yanking your chain, that's all."

Suddenly, the boys heard some stomping just a few inches behind them, each getting louder by the minute. Once the stomping ceased, all four reluctantly turned their heads around and much to their dismay, they find themselves staring right back at Tina.

"Hello fur ball, what are you and your friends doing here?"

Before Brian could answer the dinosaur's question, Darwin spoke first, offering Tina an explanation.

"You see Tina; me, Gumball and Mike all agreed to help Brian out to make a video of his life in Elmore. He really wants to show them that he's doing fine and well around here."

"Is that so?" asked Tina. "In that case, try to capture a good image of me and remember, make every shot count."

Much to the boys' surprise, the t-rex began to make various poses right in front of the camera and the four weren't so sure if they should be repulsed or be amused by the carnivore's attempt.

"Give me a second, Tina." said Mike. "Let me zoom out first."

Just then, Tina stopped posing and turned to face Mike, with a look of anger on her face.

"Are you implying that I'm fat?!" she angrily accused the maroon badger.

"Of course not, Tina!" Brian suddenly spoke, as he came to his friend's aid. "Mike never made such an implication."

"Brian's right…" Darwin began. "Mike probably thought you were big-boned."

Tina, however, only growled in anger, infuriated by the two-legged fish's remark. Realizing the t-rex's intention, Brian and his friends quickly turned and fled for their lives, with the carnivore right behind them.

"What do we do now?!" Gumball screamed, as they ran.

"Pray we find something for her to slip on!" Mike yelled as he was still rolling.

Unexpectedly, Banana Joe showed up right around the corner, happily whistling some sort of tune on the sidewalk. As Brian and his friends ran past him, the confused banana was about to say something when Tina squashed him, causing the dinosaur to skid across the sidewalk and towards a tree, knocking her out in the process.

"I'm alright." uttered an injured Banana Joe.

"That's a relief." Brian muttered, catching his breath. "Let's get the flip out of here."

Gumball, Darwin and Mike nodded their heads in agreement, before they ran from the scene as fast as they could. It was then that something came up in Darwin's head.

"Shouldn't you meet up with-?"

"Now's not a good time!" Brian shouted, prompting the two-legged fish to be quiet.

Once he was certain that he and his friends were safe for the time being, Brian convinced his friends to show up at Elmore Junior High, though Gumball and Darwin were hardly happy to be at school.

"What the fudge are we doing here, Brian? Today's Saturday and this isn't what I had in mind." Gumball complained.

"Yeah, we should be somewhere more exciting." Darwin whined.

"We just got chased by a dinosaur, Darwin; what more do you want?!" Mike asked, as he wondered what passed for exciting in Darwin's mind.

In response, Brian simply glared at his friends, prompting them to keep their mouths shut, as the purple fox began to explain once more on camera.

"Sorry you guys had to see that, thanks to the action of a certain fish." Brian said pointing his glare at Darwin, who bashfully apologized. "But don't worry; as long as we're here, we're safe and sound. Anyway, this is Elmore Junior High, the school I have been attending since I first moved here. It has the usual teachers and students, along with the daily routine that goes on around here. It's no big deal, really."

"Hello Brian, what are you and your friends doing here?"

Brian, along with Gumball, Darwin and Mike, stopped what they were doing and turned around to find Penny, along with her group of friends, standing right behind them and before long, the blue feline was awestruck by the antlered peanut's presence.

"Hi Penny, we're having a good day so far." Gumball spoke dreamily to his crush.

'You have to behave like the hopeless romantic that you are at a time like this?!' Brian thought, as he face palmed in disbelief.

"Gumball…" Darwin began, as he tried shaking his brother out of his stupor. "This is no time to behave like that."

Mike was a bit blunter as he bopped Gumball on the head before turning his attention to Penny and her friends. "Sorry about that, Penny. Me, Gumball and Darwin are helping Brian out."

"That reminds me…" Brian began, as he gestured Mike to show the camera at the antlered peanut, alongside her fellow cheerleaders, as the purple fox spoke once more. "Guys, this is Penny Fitzgerald and these are her friends: Molly, Masami, Teri, Carmen and Leslie."

"Hello."

"Nice to meet you."

"Hey there."

"H-hello."

"Hi!"

"Salutations!"

Once the girls (and Leslie), gave their greetings right at the camera, an idea came to Brian's head.

"Say, why don't you show your talents? I'm sure my friends back at Folsom would be impressed."

"Sure Brian. We'll do that." Penny replied, as her fellow cheerleaders also agreed with her.

With that, Penny and her friends started their cheerleading routine, chanting about their school and its mascot, before they attempted to form a pyramid. But as they were attempting the formation, Teri, who was at the bottom, noticed a bee buzzing near her face, much to her displeasure.

"Please go away." the paper bear pleaded, before blowing the bee with all of her might, to no avail. Despite her best attempt, the bee got closer towards Teri's face.

Startled by this, the paper bear screamed in horror, causing the rest of her friends to topple down to the ground, as Brian, Mike and the Watterson brothers made their way to them.

"Is everyone alright?" the purple fox asked with concern, as everyone got up from the ground.

"We're fine Brian, but thanks for asking." Penny assured her friend.

"Well, that's a relief." said Gumball.

"I'm just glad that it was nothing serious." Darwin commented.

"Forget about that, Darwin. The whole thing was caught on camera!" Masami pointed out, before she confronted Mike. "Don't you dare put that up on the internet!"

"Not on your lives! This is too awesome!" the maroon badger declared, before he found himself facing several glares from Penny and her friends, causing Mike to sigh. "I was only kidding. I swear I'll erase it." Mike calmly insisted, before whispering to Brian. "Seriously, doesn't anyone around here have a sense of humor?"

"Let's just cut the footage and try that shot again." Brian cautiously insisted, not wanting to take another chance like he had with Tina.

Once they managed to get a better shot of the cheerleading routine on camera, Brian, after being egged on by his friends, made his way to the Paxton residence, even if he was only doing this for his old friends back at Folsom.

"And here is the home of-"

"Your girlfriend." Mike said bluntly, cutting Brian off and forcing a blush, causing Mike, Darwin and Gumball to all laugh.

"Shut up!"

"Dude, you're dating her. She's your girlfriend." Gumball reminded his friend.

"At least I have the nerve to date Rhonda. When's the last time you asked Penny out?" Brian pointed out.

"He's got you there." Darwin said innocently.

"Dude, you're not helping." said an annoyed Gumball.

Just then, Rhonda, in her casual attire, exited her house, before she spotted Brian and his friends, as well as the camera Mike was currently holding.

"Hey guys, what brings you here?" asked Rhonda, as she made her way towards the boys. "What's with the camera?"

"Oh, h-hi Rhonda." Brian nervously greeted the mouse. "W-we were just making a video of what life is like around Elmore for my old friends back at Folsom. I h-hope you don't mind."

"Don't worry Brian, it's all good." Rhonda assured the purple fox.

"You really mean it?" Brain happily asked.

Before Rhonda could say anything, Max exited out of the Paxton residence and spotted the boys right next to his daughter, much to his suspicion, prompting the older mouse to make his way to the five.

"What's going on around here?" Max demanded, before he confronted Mike. "Also, care to explain why you're filming around here?"

"We're filming a horror movie and your daughter's the victim. Care to join?" Mike jokingly asked.

"W-What?!" the older mouse asked as Mike's joke had the effect of shocking him, before he collapsed on the floor, completely unconscious. Mike couldn't help himself as the scene was too funny as he began to laugh.

But before anyone could do anything else, both Brian and Rhonda suddenly punched Mike in his shoulder, causing him to laugh harder.

"Sorry about what happened to your dad." Brian apologized to Rhonda.

"That's alright Brian; sometimes he can overreact." Rhonda assured the purple fox. "Anyway, let's carry him back to the house.

Nodding his head in agreement, Brian picked up Max's legs, while Rhonda carried her father by the shoulder and as the two were preparing to head back to the Paxton residence, the purple fox turned around and looked at Mike, who finally started to calm down.

"Next time, be careful what you say when you're around Mr. Paxton. He might end up misinterpreting your words."

With that, the two dragged Max back in the house, Mike, Gumball, and Darwin following behind them.

"Mr. Paxton is just as protective as Brian said." Gumball spoke to Darwin.

"He's like Mr. Fitzgerald, only less intimidating." Darwin said, agreeing with his brother.

1 hour later…

Brian, along with his friends, decided to take a break at Joyful Burger, as the purple fox decided to review the footage from the camera. While Gumball, Darwin and Mike were eating their food, Brian, on the other hand, could only frown, displeased with what the camera had filmed so far, much to his friends' curiosity.

"What's wrong, Brian?" Darwin asked the purple fox.

"Everything that we have filmed so far ends up in disaster." Brian explained. "We've only ended up continuing to put ourselves in embarrassing and dangerous situations. There's no way I can show this to my old friends back at Folsom. I'll be nothing more than a laughing stock."

"Are you sure that it was all for nothing?" Gumball asked a stressed out Brian. "You did the best you could with your idea."

"Besides, we had fun doing this." Mike assured the purple fox.

"I don't know, you guys. I still think we should have done a better job on this." Brian spoke with a voice of uncertainty. "If you don't mind, I need to excuse myself for just a moment."

With that, the purple fox got up from his seat and made his way to the men's bathroom. Not long after he went in, a certain robber made his way inside the fast-food joint, approaching the cash register, as Larry looked on nervously.

"Um, how may I help you?" the rock humanoid nervously asked.

Without warning, Sal Left Thumb grabbed Larry by the collar, pressing their faces together.

"Listen very well; sucka…" the robber began."You're going to hand me some moolahs and I'll be on my merry way. Otherwise, I'll have to use this!"

Sal than pulls out an object from his back, but instead of a rusty, old spoon, what he pulled out right in front of Larry was…

"Oh my goodness, he's got a spork!" the rock humanoid shouted with horror, before Larry quickly unlocked the cash register and handed the robber his money. As a satisfied Sal waited patiently, unbeknownst to him, Gumball, Darwin and Mike hid underneath the table they were sitting at, the latter quickly grabbed the camera and proceeded to record the entire scene.

'I never thought I would film something interesting in a place like Joyful Burger.' Mike thought.

"Mike, are you sure this is such a good idea?" Gumball whispered to the maroon badger, snapping him back to reality.

"I have to agree with Gumball. What if that robber notices what you're doing?" asked Darwin.

"Guys..." Mike began with a sigh. "Just trust me."

Despite hesitation on their part, both Gumball and Darwin reluctantly complied with the maroon badger, allowing Mike to resume filming the robbery, just as Brian exited the bathroom, noticing the fast food joint was suddenly quiet.

'What is going on around...?' Brian trailed off in the midst of his thoughts, when he spotted the robber right next to Larry, too busy in his robbery attempt to notice the purple fox's presence, as Brian turned to his friends hiding under the table just a few inches away from him, with Mike filming the robbery in secret.

Knowing full well of what would happen if Sal Left Thumb spotted them, Brian decided to sneak off as quietly as he could, doing his best to avoid alerting the robber. But halfway towards his destination, the purple fox failed to notice a crispy fry on the floor, accidentally stepping on it, much to his dismay.

'Oh crud.' Brian thought, as Sal Left Thumb turned around, noticing the purple fox. But then, he also noticed Gumball, Darwin and Mike underneath the table, focusing on the latter, as the maroon badger was holding the camera and he had no doubt that he had filmed the robbery just now.

"Give me that camera this instant, suckas!" the robber demanded, quickly making his way towards Mike.

"How 'bout no!" the maroon badger taunted, as Mike, along with the Watterson brothers, quickly got out of under the table and ran in the opposite direction, with Sal chasing right behind them.

As the robber continued to chase the trio in a continuous circle, the former ignoring the purple fox, all Brian could do was look on, panicking over the situation, as he desperately tried to come up with a way to save his friends before it was too late.

'Oh man! I have to help Gumball, Darwin and Mike, but how? I don't have anything to catch that robber off guard!' As Brian continued to think of a solution, the purple fox noticed a discarded hamburger on the floor right next to him…wait a minute! That's it! He just found the answer to his problem.

Now knowing what to do, Brian focused his attention on the robber and whistled as loudly as he could, prompting Sal to stop what he was doing and turn to face the purple fox, much to his curiosity.

"Eat hamburger!" Brian shouted, as the purple fox quickly threw the burger right at the robber's face, blinding him in the process.

"Aah! I can't see with all this ketchup in my eyes!" Sal shouted in agony, unable to see where he was going.

As the robber desperately tried to wipe of the condiments off his face, Gumball and Darwin quickly got in position right behind his legs. Mike set down the camera just so it would film what he was about to do.

"Sit down!" Mike shouted as he performed a drop kick on Sal, causing him to fall and hit his head on a table before falling on the floor, knocking him out completely.

"Are you guys alright?" asked Brian, as he made his way to his friends.

"We're good, thanks to you." Gumball replied.

"If it wasn't for your quick thinking, who knows how today would turn out." Darwin commented.

"Yeah, thanks for the opening." Mike thanked Brian, as the purple fox smiled, glad that his friends were alright. "That reminds me, I want you to take a look at the camera."

Brian, though confused, agreed with the maroon badger and took a quick peek at the camera and much to his surprise, Mike managed to film the robbery that had occurred just moments ago, right up to the point where Brian managed to blind the robber and his friends quickly took him out. After staring at it for a few minutes, the purple fox looked at his friends with amazement.

"I have to be honest, Mike; I didn't expect this to be filmed. But at the same time, I'm actually glad it was captured on film. In fact, after seeing this, I decided to just keep everything the way it is."

Gumball, Darwin and Mike couldn't help but smile in response to Brian's answer, as the purple fox couldn't help but be happy for his friends.

It took much longer than he thought, but Brian managed to put the footage together and upload the entire video on Elmore Stream-It. As the purple fox sat right at his desk and stared at the computer, all Brian could think of was how his friends back in Folsom would react to the footage.

'I hope this was worth the wait. It took me a few hours just to edit everything.' Brian thought.

Suddenly, the purple fox noticed a few comments popping up below the footage; upon checking them, he couldn't help but be touched by what his old friends thought of the video.

"That was the best thing I have ever seen in my life!"

"That Rhonda girl looks cute. Way to snag yourself a girlfriend, tiger."

"Elmore looks like a swell place to visit."

"It's good to see your face again!"

"Your friends are awesome!"

As the purple fox continued to read off the comments, both Annie and Gordon opened the door to Brian's bedroom, poking their heads inside, wondering how their son was doing.

"Hey sport, how did the video go?" asked Annie.

"Did your friends back in Folsom like what they saw?" Gordon asked his son, before Brian turned around and faced his parents.

"Everything turned out fine in the end and I'm glad that I left everything the way it was on the camera." Brian replied, as he, as well as his parents, smiled, happy that today turned out to be quite great.
