Thank you to Manu259, dbzgtfan2004, and the guests who have reviewed. It really makes my day to read what you guys think of my story. I hope you continue to review.
Disclaimer: I do not own D. Gray-Man. If I did, it probably wouldn't have been so awesome, and it definitely wouldn't have been put on a hiatus.
"Lenalee's missing. I think she's been kidnapped."
Those words rang through Allen's head over and over again. No, this couldn't be possible. He closed his eyes, and took a deep breath, trying to quell the panic rising inside of him. All throughout the day, he'd had a bad feeling. Why hadn't he listened to it? Huh, that'll teach him to ignore his instincts. That was the second time in a row now too.
"O-okay, Komui. Tell us what happened." Allen said, leading him inside and to the couch. Komui followed, and sat down.
"Well, early this morning, Lenalee left for school. I had the day off, and she wanted to walk, so I didn't take her for once. Later, I got a call from the school saying she wasn't there(1). At first, I thought it was a mistake. That she just wasn't in the room when the teachers called attendance. But, she never came home. I haven't even heard from her since she left for school this morning."
Allen sighed. He had a feeling he knew what had happened. One of the gang members who had attacked him had warned him.
- - Flashback - -
He was so deep in thought that he didn't even see the man in front of him until he bumped into him. He was a big man, muscular. His face concealed in the shadows from his hat. "Sorry sir, I wasn't watching where I was going." Allen said
The man grinned maniacally, and went to take off his hat, revealing curly black hair pulled back in a neat style, and stigmata tattoos on the man's forehead. Allen gasped, recognition filling his eyes. "Y-y-y-you!" he exclaimed
the mans smile broadened, and some more people came out from the shadows. Allen was scared. They had all been there when his arm was burnt.
"Well, well, look what we have here." the man said "It's the little street rat."
Allen backed up, his eyes wide, filled with horror. "I thought we had taught you your lesson a long time ago. It seems you paid no heed to it though. We'll just have to remind you... won't we?"
The members of the gang formed a circle around Allen, effectively trapping him. "W-wait! P-p-please, can't we just talk this out?" he asked, his voice shaking.
The men laughed. " 'Talk it out?' he says! I don't think so, boy. We've been looking for you for a while now. We never got to finish our job. The Earl wants you dead, you know that? If we can't do it now, we'll just have to lure you in somehow. How about... that pretty little girl you've been hanging out with? What was her name again? Oh yes, Lenalee."
Allen's eyes widened. "I swear, if you even touch her, I'll-"
He was cut off by a slap in the face. "You'll what? Call your precious police? You can't do anything boy. We can do whatever we want, and there's nothing you can do about it." he started laughing, and pulled out a knife. "I'm going to enjoy this... I think I'll leave you alive. I bet Road would just love playing with him, don't you think so, Jasdevi?" he asked, turning to the people surrounding Allen. Two of them, holding guns to each other's heads, nodded enthusiastically. "You're right, Tyki. He's the perfect specimen for her. Tough, hard to break." the said in unison
The man - Tyki - started moving closer to Allen, holding the knife up threateningly. "Road's going to enjoy playing with you. I think I'll enjoy playing with your little girlfriend, and maybe your other friends too. Who knows, maybe we'll finally be able to get revenge on that despicable Cross too?"
Tyki's eyes were murderous as he got even closer to Allen.
And even though the screams could be heard from that alley way, no one came to help the poor boy...
- - Flashback - -
"Hello! Hey, Allen!"
Lavi's voice snapped Allen out of his daze. He shuddered, and looked around for a second, as if he couldn't remember where he was. He shook his head to clear it, then sat down across from Komui. "I think I know who took her." Allen said
Lavi and Komui's eyes widened. "H-how?" Lavi asked
Allen sighed. "To let you understand, I think I should tell you a bit of my past. First off," Allen looked away from them as he took off his glove and jacket, revealing his left arm. He heard gasps from both Komui and Lavi. "My parents abandoned me because of my white hair. It was unnatural, so they threw me out, and I spent the next six years moving around from orphanage to orphanage. No one would adopt me though, because as soon as they would see my hair, they would call me a monster or a freak, and run out screaming. Eventually, I had had enough, so I ran away from the orphanage to join a circus. I spent a year there, doing the odd job for food and a place to stay. One day, this traveling clown named Mana came and asked me if I wanted to leave with him. He had seen my hair, and had never once called me a monster or a freak, so I decided to trust him. I went with him, and for three years, I traveled with him. He taught me a whole bunch of tricks, and I often helped him with his acts." grief filled Allen's eyes, and a sad smile made it's way onto his face as he remembered.
"Alas, all good things must come to an end. After three years, Mana was killed in an accident. 'Never stop, keep walking.' he had said. I had no where to go, so I became a street rat, and became concerned with only surviving and how I was going to find my next meal. This is where everything ties to what happened. One day, I came face to face with a gang almost everyone has heard of and fears, the Noahs."
Allen heard Lavi and Komui gasp, neither one had known about his encounter. "They are the reason I have this scar on my face, and the reason for my arm. On that fateful day, I came face to face with their leader, the infamous Millennium Earl. They trapped me, cut the pattern into my face and burnt my arm among other things. I probably would be dead if my master hadn't come and fought them off. That's the only reason I put up with him, I owe him."
Allen stopped talking and let this information sink in. Not even Cross knew the full extent of his suffering, and he had basically just told two people. He was extremely nervous, and hoped neither one of them would think any different of him, especially after seeing his arm.
"Man, Allen... I had no idea." Lavi said
Allen released the breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. They didn't hate or think any differently of him. "It's okay Lavi, the past is the past. There's no use dwelling on it. It seems though, that the Noahs do not think the same way. They hate me, and want to finish what they started. Remember when you found me in that alley? That was because of them. I ran into them while I was walking to school, and they decided to start finishing what they started. The leader started saying how he was going to leave me alive, and then he... he started talking about kidnapping Lenalee. If I had taken them seriously, this might not have happened. I could have stopped this... had I told you earlier..."
tears were beginning to build up in all their eyes, and soon Allen couldn't hold it in any more. He let the tears stream down his face, and soon, seeing the normally strong Allen crying, Lavi and Komui were crying also. "It's all my fault..." Allen whispered
hearing this, Komui got a stern look on his face. "I don't care what you may think Allen, but this is not your fault. You didn't know this would happen, there was no way you could have predicted this."
"Komui's right, Allen." Lavi said, walking over to him and putting a hand on his shoulder. "It's not your fault. Right now, we need to focus on finding Lenalee. First off, we should inform the police."
Allen nodded, and dried his eyes. The miserable look in them was replaced by determination. He would find Lenalee, if it was the last thing he did. She had helped him, whether she knew it or not. There had been a couple times where he had gotten suicidal throughout the year he had been there, but Lenalee had always been there for him, helping him through it. She was one of the first friends he had ever had, and he would not stand for this. No one messed with his friends and got away with it.
With his new found determination, Allen pulled his phone out of his pocket and dialed the police. Even if they couldn't do anything, he would do everything. He didn't care if he died, as long as he brought Lenalee back home safely. Of course, they still had no proof that Lenalee had been kidnapped by the Noahs. It could have just been a random person. It didn't matter though, he would find her. He loved her too much to let her go. No longer would he deny his feelings. He loved Lenalee Lee, and no one could change that.
The police came later, and they started interviewing them. Allen told them the same story he had told Lavi and Komui, and told them of his suspicions that she had been kidnapped by the Noahs. They thanked him for his cooperation, and told them they would do whatever they could to find her.
A little after the police had left, Lavi and Komui decided it was time for them to go home. As soon as they left, Allen decided he needed shower. He'd had a long day, and he really needed to relax and think a little. There was no way they could help Lenalee if they were running around panicking like bumbling idiots.
As the hot water beat against his shoulders, Allen thought. Why hadn't he seen this coming? Tyki had warned him for crying out loud! He was so stupid sometimes.
Allen stayed there, just standing, until the water turned cold. He sighed and got out. He really hoped Lenalee was okay.
As he got into his pajamas, the events of the past few days finally caught up to him. Allen crawled into his bed, and buried his face in his pillow. He couldn't hold it in any more. As tears streamed down his face, Allen kept thinking. 'Why me?' he thought. Why did the bad things always happen to him?
Allen stayed there for hours, sobbing quietly into his pillow. Eventually, he fell into a fitful sleep, haunted by memories of his past, and all the possibilities of the next few days. Would they find Lenalee, or would she just disappear? He didn't know if he could take it if she died, not after just admitting his feelings about her. Again, why did everything bad always happen to him?
The next morning, Allen was awoken by the sound of his alarm clock. He groaned, and turned it off. He wasn't going to school today. He was sore and tired, not to mention worried about Lenalee. He hadn't gotten any sleep that night, plagued with nightmares and worries of the following days. What if Lenalee was... No, he shouldn't be thinking like that. He had to stay positive, stay strong. For Lavi and Komui, for Lenalee.
Allen snuggled down farther into his blankets. Cross was going to be gone for a couple days, so he didn't have to worry about him.
He couldn't get Lenalee out of his head. Her smile, her eyes, her hair, her personality, her everything. Was this what love felt like? He'd never experienced it before. At least, not this kind. Sure he loved Mana, but that was how a someone would love their family. This was different. As Allen drifted off into another round of fitful sleep, he couldn't help but remember the first day he had met Lenalee. He smiled at the memory, he would get her back, if it was the last thing he did...
Allen woke up again later that day. He looked at his phone. Two new texts, and one voicemail. He looked at the texts first. They were both from Lavi, asking where he was, and if he was okay. He rolled his eyes, Lavi was always so concerned. He quickly texted him back saying he just hadn't felt like going to school, and that, yes, he was alright.
Next, he listened to the voicemail. It was from a blocked number. As the voice talked, Allen's eyes widened.
"I bet you're worried, aren't you Walker? Well, I promise you, your little friend is safe. For now. I can't tell you how long it will last though. Lord Millennium is getting bored, and you wouldn't want him to kill the poor girl, now would you? If you want to keep her safe, meet me behind your school at midnight on Sunday. And come alone, unless you want your girlfriend to die. If I find out you made contact with the police, or told anyone about this, I'll kill her. I changed my mind, you can bring those two idiots with you too, if you want. It'll be a trade off. The girl will be freed, but in turn, you'll join the Noahs as out test subject."
As the message ended, Allen dropped his phone. This was bad. He didn't care though. He would give up his life for any of his friends any day. Especially for Lenalee. They could do whatever they wanted with him. He now had all the proof he needed that they had indeed, kidnapped Lenalee. Of course, he knew there was a possibility this was a trap, that they had already killed her or that they would go back on their word, but he didn't care. It was a chance to get Lenalee back, and he was going to take it. He just had to hide it from Komui and Lavi. Whatever happened, they could not know he was planning to give up his life.
Somewhere else
It was dark. She didn't know where she was. What had happened? The last thing she remembered was walking to school. Then...
Her eyes widened. She had been knocked out! All she could remember was a sharp pain in the back of her head before she blacked out. That means... she had been kidnapped. If it was who she thought it was, then it meant they were trying to get to Allen using her. They would probably try to make him give up his life. They wouldn't let her live even if he went through with it though. People like them left no witnesses.
'Please' she thought. 'Don't fall for it Allen. Stay where you're safe, forget about me.'
A single tear slid down her cheek as she thought that. She didn't want him to forget, but she knew it was the best way for him to stay safe. She loved him, even though he probably didn't feel the same way. She wouldn't be able to live with herself if anything happened to him.
'Please Allen. Don't worry about me. Live your life. Find a nice girl. Get married, have a family. Don't throw your life away for me." she thought
Please
1. At my school, if you weren't excused from class and you were marked absent when the teacher called attendance, then an automatic call would go to your parents or guardians letting them know you weren't in class. I felt like I should use it there so that Komui had a little insight before hand.
I think this is the longest chapter I've ever written. I can tell that this story is going to get kind of depressing, I'm just warning you. Anyways, I hoped you like the chapter. I'm so excited with this story. I can't wait to write the next chapter. Please R&R. I always love reading you reviews.
