Chapter 62-The Plane

It was a beautiful morning at the Watterson residence, as Gumball and Darwin were sleeping peacefully in their bedroom without a care in the world. But unbeknownst to them, Nicole took a quick peek into their bedroom, seemingly disappointed that they're still asleep.

'It's always the hard way.' the older, blue feline thought to herself, before she pulled out a trumpet and played it as hard as she could. As expected, Gumball and Darwin immediately got up, as the duo scrambled carelessly on to their floor, before facing their mother.

"Wakey wakey, you two!" Nicole spoke with vigor. "Today's the day!"

"Are we finally going to Daisyland?!" Anais asked with excitement as she left her room.

"Nope!"

"Dang it!" Anais cursed loudly, before she went back into her room.

"We're going to see your aunt this week, so get ready and get dressed this instant!" Nicole commanded.

"Yes Mom!" the brothers said in unison.

"Now if you two don't mind, I have to go drag your father out of bed."

With that, Nicole left, leaving Gumball and Darwin in their bedroom to get themselves dressed up and ready for the day.

"No please! I don't wanna go!" Richard complained.

"Yes you are, Richard! We're all going to see my sister this week and you're going to love it!" Nicole shouted, as the older blue feline struggled to get her husband off their bed.

For their part, Gumball and Darwin simply shrugged their shoulders after hearing their parents and continued on getting themselves ready for the day.

After everyone got dressed, including a reluctant Richard, all five were in the living room, with Gumball, his father and his siblings waiting for the next item on the agenda, as Nicole paced herself back and forth in front of her family like a drill sergeant.

"Has everyone packed their stuff?"

"We're all set up and ready to go." Anais replied, as she, her brothers and her father showed their luggage.

"Good! Then everyone in the car! We have only an hour before our flight leaves!"

The moment Nicole said those words; Darwin's happy expression was replaced by sheer terror, as his entire body turned pale and remained stiff as a statue, while his family went through the front door and into the car. As everyone settled down in their seats, it was then that Gumball noticed his brother was not there.

'That's strange, is he still back in the house?' Gumball thought to himself, before unbuckling his belt and opening the side door.

"Gumball, what are you doing?" asked Nicole, arching an eyebrow.

"I just need to see if Darwin's still in the house." the young, blue feline replied.

"Alright then, but don't take too long."

With that, Gumball made his way inside the house and spotted his brother in the living room, having been there just minutes earlier.

"Hey buddy, let's go."

"N-n-n-n-no, I'm O-o-o-okay in here."

Gumball was taken aback by Darwin's reaction, but became somewhat suspicious of this. But not wanting to waste any more time, the young, blue feline pushed it aside and grabbed Darwin's flipper, as he dragged his brother to the car.

"Darwin, we really have to go. The last thing I want to happen is to upset mom."

"No thank you. I'm much more comfortable away from where we're going."

Before Gumball knew what happened next, the two-legged fish grabbed the door frame with his other flipper, preventing his brother from pulling him further. Annoyed by his actions, Gumball struggled to pull him off from the door frame, despite Darwin's strong grip.

"No I don't wanna go!"

"You have to!"

"No!"

As Gumball continued to pull on his brother, their actions didn't go unnoticed, as Nicole spotted them from the rearview mirror, much to her suspicion.

"Gumball, what's going on back there?!" Nicole shouted, before she, along with Anais and Richard, got out of the car and confronted her son.

"Darwin's refusing to come with us." Gumball replied, as he continued to pull his brother.

"Why?" the older blue feline asked, visibly concerned.

"He won't say!" Gumball responded, shrugging his shoulders.

Nicole could only sigh, not expecting her day to turn out like this, before she turned her attention to Darwin.

"Darwin, you let go of the door frame and face me this instant!"

Without any hesitation and out of fear, Darwin obliged and let go, sending both him and Gumball to the ground, before their mother helped them off the ground.

"Now why don't you want to go?" Nicole asked nicely.

"Mrs. Mom, if we get on to an airplane, something bad will happen to us." Darwin fearfully replied.

"You're afraid of planes?" asked Nicole, clearly surprised to hear this from her son.

"Darwin; statistically there's a very low chance that you'd ever get into an accident on an airplane." Anais explained to her brother.

"Yeah, but there's also less of them around."

"But why would you be afraid of airplanes, Darwin?" Richard asked his son.

"What happens if it does crash? We'll all die!" Darwin fearfully exclaimed, ignoring his father's question.

"Darwin, you need to calm yourself down." Gumball said to his brother. "But dad is right, why are you afraid of airplanes?"

"I...just...AM!"

"You can't be afraid for no reason!" Gumball responded with irritation. "There has to be something that caused you to be afraid of airplanes to begin with."

Unbeknownst to Gumball and the rest of his family, Darwin suddenly froze in his tracks, as if something had caused him to remember something very important. But so far, all he could remember was an airplane crashing down from some sort of movie, but it was the only thing that he could recall for the moment.

"Darwin, are you alright?" asked a concerned Anais, as she waved her hand in her brother's face.

After what felt like a long time, Darwin opened his mouth, but much to the Wattersons' shock, the two-legged fish began to shout random gibberish and judging from his expression, he was clearly more frightened than ever.

"Richard, get the rope." said Nicole.

"I'm on it." the large, pink bunny said to his wife, as he quickly grabbed some rope and handed it to his wife, before Nicole literally hogtied Darwin.

"Sorry about that, but it's for your own good. We're not missing this flight, regardless of fears."

With that, the older, blue feline carried a frightened Darwin to the car, while Gumball and Anais looked on, worried that this was about to get a lot worse.

"I think he's whimpering." Gumball whispered to his sister.

"I think we should keep a close eye on Darwin." Anais whispered to her older brother, before opening the side door to let themselves in.

"Mom, won't it look bad if Darwin is tied up as we go through the airport?" Gumball asked as Darwin was set down next to him.

"Don't worry; I have a plan for that." Nicole assured her son, before she drove the family off to their destination.

It took them quite some time, but the Watterson family was able to make their way to the airport, as they parked in the nearest open spot, before they all exited out of the car. Unfortunately for Darwin, he was forced to be locked up in a big dog crate that his mother had somehow hidden from prying eyes, as Nicole carried her terrified son inside, waiting in line to purchase some tickets. As the family waited patiently for their turn, the lock that secured the entrance popped out of its place, allowing the two-legged fish to escape.

"I need to get out of here." Darwin said to himself, before Gumball and Anais tackled him to the ground.

"Oh, no you don't!" the young, blue feline shouted

"You're facing this fear of yours today!" the child prodigy insisted, before she and brother threw Darwin back into the dog crate and secured the lock.

"Release me at once! This is a cruel and unusual punishment!"

"Correction Darwin; this is for your own good." Gumball responded to his brother's rant.

"No!" Darwin shouted, just as his family was up to get their tickets. Just then, Larry noticed the big dog crate that's residing right next to the Wattersons.

"Excuse me, but is there a problem?" the rock humanoid asked Nicole.

"Yes, we might need a muzzle." the older, blue feline nervously responded.

"Alright, if you say so." said Larry, before the rock humanoid handed Nicole a muzzle. The next thing he knew, the older, blue feline let her husband in front of her, as Nicole quickly opened the crate's door to face her son.

"Sorry about this, Darwin." Nicole apologized, before she put the muzzle onto the irate two-legged fish's mouth.

After the family received their tickets, the next obstacles they had to endure was security check in, much to their chagrin. Nevertheless, the Wattersons decided to put their disdain aside for the moment and go through with the procedure; after waiting for several long minutes, the security guard checked the family with no complaints, but got nervous upon seeing the big dog crate they were carrying.

"Don't worry, he's harmless." Richard assured the security guard.

"If you say so, sir." said the security guard, before he took a quick peek inside the dog crate. Upon further inspection, he saw what appeared to be a two-legged fish, who simply glared right back at the security guard. Though taken aback by this, he was otherwise relieved by the sight.

"Alright then, you guys can move along."

With that, the Wattersons continued on to their destination, before they decided to let Darwin out of the dog crate and removed the muzzle over him, as the two-legged fish continued to glare at his family.

"Are you going to stop?"

"Only if you promise us not to act like a completely paranoid fish." Nicole replied.

"Darwin, I've been on a lot of flights! They're not so bad!" Richard told.

"Sure, I believe you, Mr. Dad." Darwin sarcastically spoke.

"Then we'll have to show you!"

Darwin fearfully backed away, spooked by their sudden change in demeanor. Before the two-legged fish knew it, they grabbed both of his flippers and proceeded to forcibly drag him on to the plane.

"Let me go!" Darwin pleaded to his family, all the while struggling for dear life. "No! No!"

Eventually, after struggling for about a minute or so, the two-legged fish finally freed himself from his family's grasp, sighing with great relief, before immediately dashing towards the gate, with his family right behind him. But just as he was about to make it to freedom, the gate suddenly closed right in front of him, as all he could was drop to his knees in despair.

"Why do you have to be so cruel, fate?!" Darwin shouted at the top of his lungs.

"Come on!" Nicole yelled, as the rest of his family dragged him into his seat and buckled him in.

"Oh man, this can't be happening to me!" Darwin fearfully muttered.

"Don't worry Darwin; everything will be over once we get to our destination." Gumball attempted to calm his brother down.

Just then, the intercom was turned on, prompting everyone to pay attention to hear what the pilot had to say.

"Good morning passengers! This is your captain speaking! We'll be taking off in just a few moments! Until then, sit down, relax and enjoy the flight!"

Before Darwin knew it, he could hear the engine turning on, as the plane was beginning to move, much to his horror. Soon, the plane moved down the runway and eventually got off the ground, causing the two-legged fish to feel the force of the takeoff, as he fell back into his seat.

'Oh no! This is a nightmare come true.' Darwin thought to himself, as he closed his eyes as tight as he could.

Eventually, the force of the liftoff came to a complete end, allowing the two-legged fish to open his eyes, much to his relief, but a computerized voice spoke out of the blue.

"You are now free to move about the cabin."

Confused by what he had heard, but somewhat happy at the same time, Darwin unbuckled himself from the seat and made his way to the nearest bathroom. Locking the door from behind, the two-legged fish looked in the mirror and jumped back, stunned by how pale he got. Once he caught his breath, Darwin faced the mirror once more, still breathing heavily, as he attempted to calm himself down.

"We're gonna be okay." he said to himself. "Maybe my family is right. I should calm down a bit."

Suddenly, Darwin felt the plane shake rather violently, causing him to lose his balance, before he fell down onto his back. Before long, he could hear everyone screaming for dear life, including that of his family, as the plane soon leaned forward, causing it to head down much faster than usual, as the two-legged fish clung on to the rail for dear life.

'I was right! We're all going to die!' Darwin thought in terror, as he could do nothing but close his eyes, preparing to embrace the oncoming impact.

Darwin woke up and popped out of his bowl, gasping for air, before he fell down to the floor face first. Upon feeling the carpet with his flippers, the two-legged fish looked at his surroundings, amazed but somewhat relieved that what he had experienced didn't really happen at all.

"Thank goodness… it was all a dream. Now I know how Gumball and Brian felt when they had their nightmares."

"Darwin, are you okay?" Gumball asked his brother, as he heard the fall.

"Yeah Gumball, I'm fine." the two-legged fish happily replied. "I'm just glad we're not on an airplane falling to our doom."

"Darwin, I told you not to watch that movie." the blue feline scolded his brother. "That's what you get for staying up all night."

"Yeah, but now everything is gonna be okay!" Darwin happily exclaimed

"Wakey wakey kids! We're getting on a plane to visit your aunt today!" Nicole called out to her sons.

Horrified to hear this from his mother, Darwin, his eyes widening with disbelief, could do nothing except scream at the top of his lungs, realizing that he and the rest of his family had to go the airport.
