Chapter 66-The Snake

Normally for Brian, Mike and the Watterson brothers, they would spend most of their afternoon doing their usual activities. Instead, the four soon found themselves making their way to Scorch's apartment in Downtown Elmore, after the fire humanoid called the purple fox and insisted that he and his friends show up as soon as possible. After several minutes of navigation, Brian and his friends made the long trek to Scorch's apartment as fast as they could.

"So, did Scorch tell you what was so important?" asked a curious Gumball.

"He didn't say much about it, other than to show up this afternoon." Brian replied.

"And I'm here why?" Mike asked the purple fox, as he would've rather been home watching a movie.

"Just in case things get out of hand." Brian responded, as he and his friends arrived at Scorch's apartment.

The purple fox knocked on the door, waiting for a response, while Mike leaned on a wall in the process. Eventually, the four heard a click, as the door opened up revealing the fire humanoid right in front of them, looking at them with joy.

"Brian, it's good to see you." Scorch happily greeted him.

"Same here, Scorch." Brian greeted back.

"Yeah, it's nice to see you too." Gumball said, with Darwin nodding his head in agreement.

Just then, the fire humanoid noticed a certain maroon badger leaning on the wall and it didn't take him too long to realize who he was.

"Mike, is that you?! Wow, so this is where you went!" Scorch was happy to see that Mike was doing well, while the maroon badger nonchalantly waved at him.

"Well, come on in you guys."

With that, the fire humanoid allowed the four to come into his apartment; as Scorch lead them into his room, Mike looked around his surroundings and couldn't help but notice how homely and spacious Scorch's apartment was.

"I'll have to admit, this place does look nice compared to the outside." Mike noted.

"Yeah, I get that a lot." Scorch admitted. "Anyway, you guys are probably wondering why you're all here."

"Yeah, you said it was really important." Brian reminded.

"Well, here's why." said Scorch, as he pulled down a curtain that revealed another door, much to their surprise.

"Strange, I don't recall seeing that door on our last visit." Gumball commented.

"What's in there, Scorch?" asked Darwin.

"It's best if I show it to you in person." Scorch then opened the door and much to the four's surprise, it was surprisingly large on the inside, as they spotted a large cage in front of them.

"Oh my." Brian muttered, as he and his friends walked in.

"Apparently, Scorch has a large pet." Gumball replied, as he and Darwin stood behind Mike for protection.

"I'm sure it's nothing but a harmless, little animal." Brian attempted to calm the Watterson brothers down.

Out of the blue, however, a giant snake with red scales popped out of nowhere, scaring the daylights out of Brian, before the purple fox quickly joined up with Gumball and Darwin as they all hid behind the maroon badger out of fear.

"It's harmless alright. About as harmless as a chainsaw." Mike remarked.

"Don't worry Mike, Sally may look threatening, but she's just curious and friendly." Scorch assured the maroon badger.

"That's a girl?!" Darwin exclaimed in astonishment.

"Of course, we would have figured that out." Gumball mumbled as everyone but Scorch hid behind Mike.

"Guys, I get it that Sally's presence can be intimidating, but believe me, she wouldn't hurt a fly." Scorch attempted to calm his friends down.

"So why is it in a cage? You can't exactly lose something that big!" Mike asked.

Scorch paused for a moment, before he took a deep breath and offered the maroon badger an explanation.

"Long story short, Sally used to be quite small when I first got her from the animal shelter. But as she kept growing, I realizes that Sally's curiosity could get the better of her and she wouldn't realize what she was doing is wrong. So in a way, the cage is meant to protect her."

"Oh, goodie." Brian said sarcastically, as the rest of them regained their composure.

"Look guys, all you have to do is make sure that she's been well-fed and doesn't leave the apartment under any circumstances." Scorch informed the four.

"Why do I have a strange feeling that last part might come back to haunt us?" Gumball whispered to Mike.

"Because you two are here." Mike replied jokingly.

"Very funny, Mike." said an unimpressed Gumball.

Just then, the five heard someone knocking on the door.

"Don't worry Scorch, I got it." Brian told the fire humanoid, as he made his way to the front door; oblivious of what was about to happen, much to Scorch's horror.

"Brian, don't open up the-"

But it was too late, as the purple fox opened it and was greeted with a foot heading towards his face.

"Hello Brandon!" greeted the stranger, as he sent Brian flying towards the wall.

"Nice entrance." Mike commented, as he peeled Brian off the wall.

"Ow..." Brian muttered in pain, as he struggled to get up and regain his composure.

"Sorry about that, niño. I thought you were my cousin back there." the stranger apologized, prompting the purple fox to get a good look at him.

Standing right in front of him was another fire humanoid, only he was a bit older, taller and well built. He wore a pair of green shades that covered his eyes, an unzipped black hoodie that revealed his white shirt, black cargo pants and a pair of red and white sneakers. Judging from his expression, he clearly felt bad for what he did.

"Carlos, do you always have to do that every time you show up?" Scorch berated his cousin.

"It's just my way of saying hi, that's all." Carlos casually replied.

"Well before you say hi, make sure you shoes are clean." Gumball remarked.

"I'll keep that in mind, niño." said the older, fire humanoid.

"Seriously, don't do that ever again." Brian admonished Carlos, still having not forgotten about his earlier action.

"I said I was sorry." Carlos responded defensively.

"Anyway, before I go, here's a full list of what you have to do to take care of Sally." Scorch informed his friends, as he handed Brian the list.

The purple fox unrolled the list that was given to him, and much to his surprise, it ended up continuously rolling until it hit the floor. It wasn't long, but it seemed like it stretched for miles.

"What, are you serious?!" Brian asked the young fire humanoid, aghast by what was written on the list.

"Oh quit whining you big baby!" Scorch joked.

"Scorch's right, we might as well get through them." Mike remarked.

"You're not helping." Brian criticized the maroon badger.

Mike simply shrugged his shoulders before taking a seat on the couch.

"Are you sure you niños can handle someone like Sally?" Carlos asked with genuine concern.

"If she's anything like what Scorch says, I think me and Brian can handle it. Except them," Mike replied, pointing at Gumball and Darwin. "They are a walking health hazard."

"Hey!" Gumball and Darwin objected to such a label.

"I'm just being honest, that's all." Mike calmly replied.

"Don't worry, Scorch; we've got this!" Brian spoke with confidence.

"That's all I needed to hear." said Scorch. "Anyway, I have to get going now."

With that, he and Carlos made their way out of the apartment, leaving just Brian, Mike and the Watterson brothers in Scorch's house.

"So what's first?" Gumball asked Brian.

Brian looked at the list that Scorch handed him earlier, before turning his attention to the blue feline.

"I guess we'll have to feed Sally."

"He couldn't have done that before he left?" Darwin complained.

"Don't worry too much about it, Darwin. I bet it's going to be a breeze." Brian tried to calm down the two-legged fish.

"Well then you guys can go feed it." said Mike, as he laid down on the couch.

"Are you saying that you're afraid?" Brian teased the maroon badger.

"No; lazy." Mike said plainly.

Brian just rolled his eyes in response, before going inside the other room, dragging Gumball and Darwin with him to feed Sally. After only a few seconds, Mike suddenly heard screaming, before he saw the trio rushing out of the room, with a look of horror on their faces.

"What happened back there? Did she look at you funny?"

In response to Mike's question, the trio shook their heads in disagreement.

"Did she hiss at you?"

Once again, the trio gave the maroon badger the same answer.

"Did she escape from her cage?"

Reluctantly, the trio nodded their heads, much to Mike's dismay.

"How could you guys not handle something so simple?"

But the maroon badger didn't bother hearing their answer, as he got up from the couch and walked into the room, only to see that Sally was indeed out of her cage but still in the apartment, before she slithered up to him.

"Whoa!" Mike responded, due to Sally's surprising agility, before the maroon badger got out of the way. After regaining his composure, he and his friends attempted to stop her, a task easier said than done, as the giant snake continued to evade their every move. Eventually, Sally made her way to an open window and immediately slithered her way out of the apartment, much to their horror.

"Oh man, we're toast." Gumball meekly uttered.

"Literally or figuratively, Gumball?" asked Darwin.

"Both."

"Let's go get her!" Brian shouted.

"Brian's right, you guys. We need to find Sally before Scorch gets home." Mike insisted.

With that, the four left the apartment and made their way outside, intending to track down Sally before she could cause chaos throughout Elmore.

It was another night for Tina, Jamie and Anton, as the trio took a stroll around town, mainly just to get some fresh air for a change and perhaps cause some trouble when they can come up with a good prank. But right now, they had nothing else to do other than talk with one another about the school day.

"So guys, what did you think of the latest test from Miss Simian?" asked Anton.

"Don't get me started, Anton…" Tina began. "I barely had enough time trying to find the correct answer before time was up."

"I swear, if that baboon pulls off another move like that, I'm going to give her a piece of my mind." Jamie spoke grudgingly, as she cracked her knuckles.

As the trio continued on with their conversation, suddenly, out of the blue, Tina and her friends heard what appeared to be a hissing noise, startling them in the process.

"W-what was that?" asked a frightened Anton.

"I'm s-sure it was n-nothing, Anton." Tina replied, despite being startled herself.

"Tina's right, i-it's probably just our i-imagination." Jamie insisted.

But soon, the hissing got much louder than usual and before either of them knew what happened, they turned around and stopped dead in their tracks, horrified what was right in front of them: a 20 foot tall giant snake with red scales and yellow eyes, as it looked at them with curiosity, while Tina and her friends could do nothing but remain still out of fear.

'This is so not our day!' Anton thought, before he and his friends screamed, as the giant snake reared its head and prepared to make its move.

Finding Sally proved to be surprisingly challenging; shortly after leaving the apartment, Brian, Mike and the Watterson brothers followed the trail she had left them, which mainly consisted of flaked scales, overturned vehicles and ruined pavements. But no matter how many nooks and corners they looked in, the giant, red snake was nowhere to be found, much to their annoyance.

'At this rate, Scorch will be back soon and the snake will still be on the loose. The last thing I wanted is to face the wrath of someone like him!' Brian thought with horror, before resuming searching for Sally.

"I can't believe a snake that large can disappear just like that." Gumball whined.

"Tell me about it, Gumball." Darwin agreed with his brother. "Sally sure wants to go out really bad."

"I still can't believe you knuckleheads let that happen." Mike berated his friends. "If you would have just been careful to begin with, none of this would have happened."

"Look Mike, we can argue about this after we find Sally." Brian said. "I just wish we had a sign of Sally's whereabouts."

As if to answer the purple fox's question, the four suddenly heard someone screaming in horror, startling the boys in the process.

'Well, that was convenient.' Brian thought, before he and his friends traveled to the source. Upon arrival, they were stunned to find Sally, along with Tina, Jamie and Anton, the former having her head trapped in the snake's mouth, as the t-rex began to squirm like mad, desperately wanting to get out real bad, while her friends could only look on with horror. Likewise, the boys also looked on, neither knowing what to do, until Brian took a deep breath and made his way towards Sally.

"Brian, what are you doing?!" Gumball shouted.

"I honestly don't know, Gumball. I'm just hoping that it works." the purple fox replied, before turning his attention to Sally. "Sally, Tina is not food. She is a living breathing dinosaur and I suggest that you spit her out...please."

Surprisingly, Sally understood the purple fox's words and feeling bad about this, promptly spit Tina out, her head covered in saliva. As Mike approached the giant snake, Brian, along with everyone else, approached the terrified dinosaur, before the purple fox spoke.

"Tina, I'm sorry for what happened back there. I swear it wasn't on purpose." Brian apologized to the t-rex.

The carnivore, however, didn't respond right away, still speechless and in utter shock, mumbling something about her life flashing before her eyes.

Mike, meanwhile, had Sally affectionately rub against his leg, something that Brian and his friends noticed right away, much to the former's relief.

"Well, that was a lot easier than I thought." the purple fox commented.

But then, Sally spotted a meat truck driving by and taking a sniff of the aroma, immediately slithered her way towards the vehicle.

"No Sally! That's not for you!" Mike shouted as he ran after her, before the maroon badger managed to grab Sally's tail, only to be immediately dragged off in the process, due to the serpent's fast agility.

"Help!" Mike cried out, as he was dragged along the pavement.

"Don't worry, Mike. We're coming!" Darwin shouted, before he found a pair of rollerblades in the trash. "Alright you guys, hop on."

"What are you-" was all Brian could say, before Gumball grabbed his paw and quickly got on top of the two-legged fish's head.

"There's no time for questions, just trust him." the blue feline insisted, before rubbing his brother's cheek.

Much to Brian's surprise, Gumball's action had a strong effect on Darwin and before long; they were speeding off extremely quickly. Fortunately for them, they were able to catch up to the maroon badger on time.

"What the-" was all Mike said, as he stared at a speeding Darwin inching closer to him, with his friends on top of him.

"No time to explain, Mike. Just grab my paw." Gumball insisted.

Without further hesitation, the maroon badger grabbed onto his friend's paw, releasing his grasp on Sally's tail, before Darwin came to a sudden stop, allowing Gumball and Brian to get off as he removed the roller blades from his feet.

"I have to be honest, that was pretty cool back there." the purple fox admitted.

"Yeah, Darwin only reacts like that as long as he responds to emotional awards." Gumball explained to his friend.

"Uh guys?" Everyone looked at Mike, who was lying on the ground. "Forget something?"

The maroon badger pointed to Sally, as the giant snake eventually caught up with its target and was attacking the meat truck like mad, before the driver ran away from his vehicle.

"I'll catch up... as soon as I can feel my left leg."

Nodding their heads in agreement, Gumball, Darwin and Brian made their way to the meat truck, just as Sally engulfed the entire truck with one big bite.

"Sally, No! Spit the truck out!" Brian ordered.

Reluctantly, the giant snake complied and spit the already damaged truck out, before quickly slithering out of the boys' sights.

"Where is she going?!" Darwin shouted.

"I don't know, but we need to follow her right away!" Brian replied.

With that, the trio resumed chasing after the relentless snake, but not before Mike finally caught up with them to locate Sally.

It was just another day, another graveyard shift for Larry, as the rock humanoid was rather bored by this. But as much as he wanted to complain, all Larry had to do was deal with it for one more hour and he can call it a day.

'I swear nothing ever happens in this dump.'

Suddenly, the rock humanoid heard what appeared to be a hissing sound from a distance, snapping Larry out of his boredom. But before he could investigate the source, the hissing grew even louder and before long, the entrance burst wide open, revealing a giant snake with red scales.

"What the-" before Larry could finish his sentence, Sally stormed inside, much to the rock humanoid's horror, as he ran for dear life, while the giant snake ignored him and resumed searching for food to eat.

It took them several minutes to catch up, but thankfully for the boys, they didn't have to go too far, as they heard a screaming just a mile away from them. By the time they arrived at Food N' Stuff, they witnessed Larry screaming at the top of his lung, as he passed by them, no doubt running far away from Sally.

"Gee I wonder where she went." Mike sarcastically remarked.

On cue, the four heard a lot of noise coming from the back of the grocery store and it didn't take them too long to realize where Sally was, prompting them to quietly approach the snake as best as they could, before spotting her in the meat aisle, ferociously devouring all of the meat, before the boys turned to one another.

"Alright, what now?" Mike asked no one in particular, until a certain blue feline spoke up.

"Mike, she seems to like you." Gumball remembered when Sally rubbed against him.

"Now that he mentions it, she was rather tame when you approached her." Darwin noted. "You can use that to your advantage."

"...Fine, I'll see if I can calm her down." Mike said as he tried to sneak up to her.

"We'll go around and see if we can catch her." Brian planned.

"But what if she tries to make a run for it?" asked Darwin.

"Then we'll have to find another way." Brian replied, as Mike moved into position.

"Hey Sally..." Mike greeted the snake nicely, as Sally stopped mauling the meat aisle to look at the maroon badger before slithering up to him to be pet. "There's a good girl."

Sally slowly approached the maroon badger and before long, gently rubbed her head against Mike, much to his and his friends' relief.

"Okay, we just need to lure her back to the apartment." Brian whispered to the brothers.

"Isn't that too risky, Brian?" asked a concerned Gumball.

"What if she tries to eat us?" Darwin added.

"We have Mike on our side. As long as she stays right beside him, everything will be alright." Brian assured his friends, before the trio looked at Mike, Sally and the piles of meat that the giant snake left behind, which soon gave him an idea.

Five minutes later…

Getting Sally out turned out to be quite easier than expected, as Brian and the Watterson brothers gathered most of the meat with them and left a trail for Sally to munch on, all the while Mike remained at her side, making sure that she remained as calm as she already was. So far, nothing bad has happened to them for a change and they wanted to keep it that way.

"Wish we would have thought of this sooner." Brian commented, as he put down another piece of meat on the pavement.

"I know, right?" Gumball happily agreed.

"Just as long as we don't run out of meat and nothing bad happens to Mike, everything will be fine." Darwin joyfully exclaimed.

Everyone nodded their heads in agreement, as Mike soon took the lead, with Brian and the Watterson brothers right behind him, followed by Sally, as the five soon made their way back to Downtown Elmore, with no trouble in sight.

"Just a few miles left until we reach the apartment and this nightmare will be over." Gumball said to anyone listening to him.

Unfortunately for them, their joy soon took a crushing blow, as Mike, without looking both ways, ended up under a wave of bystanders that popped out of nowhere, trampling the unfortunate maroon badger with no end in sight, much to the boys' horror. After the last few bystanders left from what felt like an eternity, the trio immediately rushed towards his aid, clearly worried for his well-being.

"Mike, are you alright?!" a mortified Brian asked the maroon badger.

"Say something!" Gumball pleaded.

"...Ow." Mike uttered, before losing consciousness.

"Why fate?! Why do you have to be so cruel to us?!" Darwin cursed out loud.

As the trio lamented their situation, they quickly realized that Sally was still with them; when they turned to find her, however, she was long gone, much to their surprise.

"Where the hay did she go?!" Brian shouted.

"What do you mean 'where the hay did she go?' She's a twenty foot tall anaconda!" Gumball retorted.

"She's also a ninja apparently." Darwin noted, shrugging his shoulder.

"Somehow, I don't like hearing that last part." Brian spoke with discomfort.

"Well we have to find her!" Gumball shouted.

"What about Mike?" Darwin asked.

"Looks like we'll have to carry him." Brian replied, as he made his way to the unconscious maroon badger. "Alright Darwin, I need your help on this one."

Darwin obliged and helped Brian out, as they both dragged Mike to Scorch's apartment, while Gumball looked in the closest alleyways, hoping that Sally didn't wander off too far.

"Sally? Where are you? Come out now or your owner is going to make us wish we weren't born!" Gumball shuddered in response, recalling the time that he and Brian had to see Scorch literally blow up in front of them.

As the blue feline continued to call out, unbeknownst to him, a certain giant snake was standing right behind him. Sensing something very wrong, Gumball turned around and saw Sally rearing her head, preparing to make her move.

'Oh no!' Gumball thought, before narrowly avoiding Sally's attack and quickly ran toward his friends as fast as he could.

"Alright, it looks like we're almost to Scorch's apartment." Brian informed Darwin. "Once we get back inside, we'll regroup with Gumball to look for-"

Before the purple fox could finished his sentence, out of nowhere, Gumball ran towards his friends, flailing his arms like mad and screaming at the top of his lungs, before passing his friends, much to their surprise. It was then that they realized what had occurred just now.

'Uh oh!' Brian and Darwin thought simultaneously, before they turned around and saw Sally heading straight towards them.

Shocked and horrified at the sight, the duo let out a scream of their own, before they ram with all of their might, passing Scorch's apartment and still carrying an unconscious Mike with them, as they quickly caught up Gumball.

"You knucklehead! Why did you lead Sally straight towards us?"

"It wasn't on purpose, Brian. I swear!"

"Guys, this is no time for arguments! Just keep running!"

Agreeing with the two-legged fish, the trio ceased their arguments for the moment, as they continued to run, with Sally right behind them, turning from one corner after another in every twist and turn, until eventually, they hit a dead end after making a wrong turn in to an alleyway, much to their dismay.

"You cannot be serious!" Gumball complained, before Sally managed to catch up with the trio.

"Oh no, this looks like the end for us!" Darwin said with disbelief.

"Well, it was fun while it lasted. Let's embrace the inevitable." Brian gloomily resigned, along with his friends, closing their eyes as the giant snake prepared to swallow them whole.

But just then, before Sally's mouth could reach the four, she suddenly stopped dead in her tracks and slowly backed away from them, as if she was in some sort of trance. Realizing something was wrong, the trio opened their eyes and saw Scorch and Carlos near the entrance of the alleyway, the former playing a flute, leaving the boys no doubt that he was the one taming Sally., as the giant snake made her way to her master, ecstatic to see him once again.

'Wow that was amazing!' Brian thought.

Just then, Mike was beginning to stir, as the maroon badger got up and stretched his body, before he regained his composure.

"Ow….what happened back there?" Mike then noticed that he and his friends were in an alleyway, before spotting Scorch and Carlos alongside an obedient Sally. "What'd I miss?"

"We'll tell you about that later." Gumball replied, before the two fire humanoids made their way to the four.

"Are you niños alright?" asked a concerned Carlos.

"Don't worry; we're fine, thanks to you two." Darwin replied in gratitude, before turning his attention to Scorch. "By the way, where did you get the flute?"

"It was with me when I was doing my errands. When I realized I took it with me, Carlos and I quickly returned here as fast as we could, since I forgot to give it you guys."

"It's all good, Scorch. We're just happy that we didn't become your pet's lunch." Mike assured the young, fire humanoid.

"Thanks Mike." said Scorch.

"Anyway, now that everyone is fine and well, let's just head back to the apartment and make sure that Sally gets back in her cage." Carlos suggested.

"Sounds like a good plan." Brian agreed with older, fire humanoid.

With that, the six, along with Sally, made the long trek back to the apartment complex, although for Mike, he just wished that giant snake would stop affectionately rubbing her body on him.

Tidbits

-It's been a while since I wrote a chapter about Scorch and after a long time, I finally found the time to write this chapter, with some help from Sal.

-For the voice of Carlos, Silent Arrancar suggested Peter Spellos, who dubbed Dordonii, a character from Bleach.

I hope everyone enjoyed The Snake and I'll see ya next chapter!
