Chapter 70-The Wolf
It was another day for Brian, Mike and the Watterson brothers, as the four were coming back from gathering supplies from the local warehouse, largely due to a list that Annie provided for them. Thankfully, she gave them the money needed to buy the supplies and for once, nothing strange or peculiar happened to them, something that the four, especially Brian and Mike, were grateful for.
"Thanks for lending me a hand, guys." Brian thanked the trio.
"Don't mention it." Mike responded.
"It's no problem, Brian. We're here to help you out." Darwin assured the purple fox.
"But why does your mom need this much for her work place?" asked Gumball.
Before Brian could answer the blue feline's question, he stopped dead in his tracks, prompting his friends to do the same thing, curious why the purple fox reacted like that.
"What's wrong, Brian?" asked Darwin.
In response, the purple fox pointed his finger, as Mike and the Watterson brothers saw a group of rough looking thugs surrounding an old, grey wolf, wearing a green suit with a red tie and judging from his expression, he was oddly calm, despite the situation he found himself in.
"Alright gramps! Give us your money!" the lead thug demanded.
"Don't you kids have better things to do than mug an old man?" the older, grey wolf spoke with a strong, English accent, all the while remaining rather calm.
"We're not here to play games, old timer! Now either you give us the dough or you're going to get it!" one of thugs threatened the older, grey wolf.
All the older, grey wolf could do was sigh in annoyance and before the thugs knew what happened next, he immediately threw the first punch, knocking the lead thug out, startling his friends. But neither of them had a chance to react, however, as their would-be victim proceeded to perform an uppercut on the next thug, before head butting his friend on the head.
While the old wolf continued to pummel the muggers with no end in sight, Gumball, Darwin, Brian and Mike could do nothing but stand still and watch the debacle right in front of them, amazed by what he was capable of.
'That is one person I don't want to mess with.' the purple fox thought, just as the older, grey wolf was done taking out the thugs, as he dusted his paws off in disgust.
"Kids these days have no manners." the older, grey wolf commented, before he turned around and saw four boys staring at him, no doubt witnessing him beating the thugs up.
"That was awesome." The four said in unison.
"Oh, it wasn't much. I was just teaching them a lesson about respecting their elders." the older, grey wolf insisted, as he sheepishly rubbed his head.
"Are you kidding me? You totally whooped those thugs like they were nothing!" Gumball praised the older, grey wolf.
"Yeah, the way you fight is something Mrs. Mom would do herself." Darwin noted.
For his part, the older, grey wolf couldn't help but chuckle at the Watterson brothers praising his actions.
"It's a good thing that you can take care of yourself." said Brian. "We thought you were a goner for sure."
"Don't worry about it, young lad. I get it all the time."
"You wax buns often?! That is awesome!" Mike spoke.
"Only if I need to defend myself." the older, grey wolf responded with amusement.
"Anyway, I think it's time we introduced ourselves..." the purple fox began. "My name's Brian and these are Gumball, Darwin and Mike. And you are?"
"The name is Rupert O'Quinn." the moment the old wolf answered Brian's question, the boys were quite shocked to hear this; none more so than the purple fox himself.
"O'Quinn?!"
Mike and the Watterson brothers then turned their attention to Brian, curious what he had to say.
"Believe me, I'm just as surprised as you guys are." the purple fox then became quite puzzled by this revelation. "Come to think of it, dad never mentioned his side of the family."
"Oh, so you must be Gordon's son." said Rupert, somewhat surprised to hear Brian's last statement.
"You know my dad?" a surprised Brian asked.
"Know him? I raised him since he was still in his diapers."
"Dude...you're grandpa's awesome!" Gumball said after a moment of silence.
"I just wish we had an awesome grandpa like you do." Darwin admitted to Brian.
"That would be great, except I never even knew I had a grandpa before all of this." Brian pointed out to Darwin.
"What?!" Rupert was shocked. "Gordon never told you about his grandfather?! That's it!" Rupert then stormed off in the direction of Brian's house.
'Oh man, that doesn't sound good.' Brian fearfully thought, before turning to his friends. "Guys, I'm going back home to make sure things don't go bad. Also, carry this for me, Gumball."
Once the purple fox handed the supplies to the blue feline, Brian turned around and immediately ran back home, while his friends could only look on.
"He just dumped his workload on us!" Gumball shouted, feeling betrayed by the fox's actions.
"Oh get over it!" Mike shouted back in annoyance.
He didn't know how long it had been, but Brian didn't care at the moment, as he finally made his way back to the O'Quinn residence as fast as he could. As he tried to catch his breath, he noticed his grandfather had already made his way into his house, as he waited patiently for Gordon to show up, prompting the worn-out and tired purple fox to make his way to Rupert.
"Please don't be mad at him..." Brian began. "I'm sure there must be a reason why my dad never mentioned you."
"That's why I'm here, Brian." Rupert insisted. "I wanted to know why your father never took the time to even mention me."
As the two continued to talk, both the fox and the wolf stopped what they were doing, as the front door slowly opened, revealing Gordon in front of them, as he turned his attention to his son, before turning to the older wolf, much to his surprise.
"Dad..." Brian sheepishly greeted his father. "Guess who it is?"
"Hi son." Rupert greeted Gordon.
But the grey wolf didn't respond to his father's words, as the look of shock was replaced by a frown, before slamming the front door in front of Rupert, much to Brian's astonishment.
'Well that went about as well as expected.' Brian thought aloud.
Rupert simply shrugged his head at this, before kicking the door down and making his way inside, as he saw Gordon in a fighting stance, much to his amusement.
"Son, do you really think you can take me?"
"I've been preparing myself just in case your face showed up." Gordon bluntly replied, before he dashed towards his father.
Rupert countered by ducking under his son and throwing him out the door.
Undaunted by this, the grey wolf immediately got up and dashed towards Rupert, who countered by slamming the door right in his face, causing Gordon to run head first into the door.
"Ow! That crazy, old-" was all Gordon could say, before soap appeared out of nowhere, launching right towards his mouth.
"Dad, are you alright?" asked a panicked Brian, before Gordon pulled the soap out of his mouth.
"Other than a migraine, I'm good."
"Son, watch your mouth." Rupert jokingly scolded his son.
Gordon grumbled angrily while Brian looked towards the road to see Gumball, Darwin, and Mike finally caught up, no doubt having dropped off the supplies at his mom's place.
"Guys, I'm so glad you're here!"
"What'd we miss?" Gumball asked.
"My dad tried to attack grandpa the moment they saw each other." Brian explained.
"I can only guess who won." Mike said sarcastically.
"Anyway, let's go inside and see what those two are doing now." Darwin suggested.
"What are you talking about? My dad's right he-oh." Brian looked to see his dad had gone back inside.
The four boys went into the O'Quinn and much to the purple fox's relief, neither Gordon nor Rupert were at each other's throats, as they were standing side by side, before the former took a deep breath and opened his mouth.
"I guess you had to find out sooner or later, Brian. This is Rupert O'Quinn, my dad and your grandfather. He's a businessman day and night and this will be his first and last visit here."
"That guy better be the boss with skills like those." Mike joked.
In response, Brian elbowed the maroon badger before turning his attention to his father.
"Dad, you might want to reconsider what you're doing."
"And I should let him stay here, why?" Gordon asked his son, arching an eyebrow, prompting Rupert to turn his attention to the wolf.
"My plane won't be here for the next few days. That and I can't find a decent hotel to stay."
Annoyed by this, an irate Gordon turned around to face the older, grey wolf, but after a few minutes, he was unable to come up with anything, as he grudgingly sighed in defeat.
"Alright, you can stay here for the moment, dad."
"What happened between those two?" Darwin whispered to Gumball.
"I don't know, but it's clear that Mr. O'Quinn doesn't enjoy his dad's company one bit." Gumball whispered back.
"How can I ever thank you, son?" asked Rupert.
"By not talking to me." Gordon replied.
With that, Gordon went upstairs to his bedroom, while Rupert remained downstairs and went into the guest room. Brian could only sigh heavily.
"What am I gonna do, guys?"
"Don't worry, Brian! We'll help you!" Darwin said with a smile.
"We'll be your family psychiatrists!" Gumball added.
"Be very afraid." Mike added at the end, irking Gumball and Darwin.
Brian pondered for a moment, thinking of the Watterson brothers' suggestion, before facing his friends.
"You know, that might not be a bad idea."
"What?!" Mike exclaimed in surprise.
"Alright!" Gumball and Darwin shouted with joy.
"But I'm going to ask Anais for help." Brian added.
"Oh." the Watterson brothers sighed in disappointment, while the maroon badger was relieved to hear this.
Twenty minutes later...
Shortly after arriving at the Watterson residence, Brian, along with his friends, convinced Anais to come with them to the O'Quinn residence to discuss some very important issues. Upon arrival, the purple fox began to explain everything about Rupert and Gordon's issues. Once Brian was done explaining the situation to her, the child prodigy, after listening to her friend for quite some time, finally began to speak.
"Let me get this straight Brian..." Anais began. "You want me to be their family psychiatrist so I can get them to overcome past grudges and can reconcile with each other?"
"Yeah, that's pretty much it."
"Somehow, that doesn't sound reassuring." Anais plainly said.
"You don't need to know them for all that long to know that." Mike added with a face palm.
"Can you at least hear us out first?" an annoyed Gumball demanded.
"Fine." Brian sighed.
Twenty more minutes later...
"So what do you guys think now?" Darwin asked both Mike and Anais.
"I want no part of this," Mike deadpanned. "If anyone asks, I wasn't involved."
"At least make sure those three don't screw things up, Mike." Anais insisted.
"Brian I trust. It's THESE two I'm concerned about!"
"Hey!" the Watterson brothers objected.
"Break it up, you guys!" Brian shouted at the three.
"Brian's right, this is no time for arguments." Anais agreed with the purple fox. "Now I suggest you three apologize before we go through with this plan."
"...No." Mike simply responded.
"Mike..." Brian began. "We've got no time for this."
"Then we can move on!" Mike snickered.
"Alright Mike, you got us good." Anais remarked. "But seriously, you, Gumball and Darwin just apologize...please."
"Bah...I'm sorry." Mike genuinely apologized.
"Close enough." Brian stated, before turning his attention to the Watterson brothers.
"We're sorry." Gumball and Darwin simultaneously apologized.
"Okay let's put this plan in motion." Anais declared. "Here's what I suggest..."
So the child prodigy huddled the boys around her, as she discussed with them of the plan to help mend the relationship between Gordon and Rupert.
It was a rather stressful day for Gordon, lying down on the bed, as his father's sudden appearance was the last thing he ever expected. Why did he even bother to show his face? In fact, what are his motives and what was he up to?
But before the grey wolf could ponder much further, Gordon heard a knock on the bedroom door, and he got up and opened it, revealing Mike and Darwin standing right in front of them, much to his surprise.
"Oh, hey there!" Gordon greeted them. "Sorry you and your friends had to see that."
"Oh, don't worry about that, Mr. O'Quinn..." Darwin began. "It's all good."
"Besides, I think you look stressed out." Mike noted. "A good walk should clear your mind. What do you say to that?"
Gordon pondered for a moment, thinking of the maroon badger's suggestion. Normally, he didn't want to do anything else, other than sit down and read, but after the fiasco that happened this afternoon, he was more than willing to get out of the house, even if it's only for just an hour or so.
"Sure, I could use a walk around the neighborhood."
Satisfied with his answer, Mike, Darwin and Gordon made their way downstairs and through the front door, the latter not realizing what was in store for him.
Although Rupert was happy to know that he had a grandson, he was rather upset that Gordon never mentioned his name to Brian at all. Then again, neither he nor his son had spoken to each other for quite some time. Even so, he was still upset that his son would do something like that. For goodness sake, he could have done better than charging at him like a rampaging bull!
As the older, grey wolf lamented on how today turned out, he suddenly heard a knock on the door, prompting him to get up and open the door up to see Brian and Gumball right in front of them.
"Hello boys, what brings you here?" asked Rupert.
"We just wanted to check up on you, grandpa. That's all." Brian replied.
"That and we were wondering if you wanted to check out the neighborhood." Gumball suggested.
The older, grey wolf pondered for a moment, thinking of the blue feline's suggestion. Although he wanted to rest for the moment, he also didn't want to turn down the offer at the same time. In fact, he could use the opportunity to get to know his grandson better.
"If it'll make you two happy, I don't see why not."
The boys rejoiced upon hearing Rupert's answer, before they led the older, grey wolf to the front door.
For the next several minutes, Mike and Darwin lead Gordon onto one path, while Gumball and Brian led Rupert in the opposite direction, wanting to make sure that neither of them saw each other the moment they left, all the while occupying them with various random subjects to distract them, from their favorite hobbies to their favorite meals. After what felt like an eternity, the four finally made their way to a warehouse far outside the town, the wolves too distracted to notice the other's presence, as they lead them inside without much difficulty.
"Alright Anais, we brought them here!" Gumball called out to his sister, just as Gordon and Rupert finally saw each other, much to their shock.
"What are you doing here?!" the wolves asked simultaneously. "What am I doing here?! I asked you first!"
Just then, Anais popped out of nowhere, as she jumped and locked a shock collar on to each of their necks, before she quickly landed on a crate. Adding more shock to them, they turned around and saw Gumball and Darwin holding remotes in their hands, no doubt intending to use it on them. As Gordon and Rupert were trying to process what was occurring just now, a certain maroon badger, upon witnessing this, couldn't believe what he just saw.
"What the fudge are we doing?!" Mike asked Brian in sudden realization of how insane this plan was.
"Believe me Mike, I'm just surprised that Gumball and Darwin actually did that just now." the surprised purple fox insisted.
"I stand by my earlier statement that I had nothing to do with this." said the maroon badger, as he looked over the scene.
"What's the meaning of this?!" Gordon demanded.
"And why is it that we have these collars around our necks?!" Rupert shouted.
In response, Darwin pressed the button, causing Gordon to feel several jolts shocking his entire body, much to his surprise.
"Whoops! Wrong one."
As the grey wolf tried to regain his composure from the unexpected shock, a certain blue feline spoke, as he and his dad turned their attention to him.
"Allow me to explain how this works..." Gumball began. "You and your dad aren't getting along, so we put these collars around your neck to get both of you to cooperate and tell us about your problems. That and we just wanted to use these collars again."
"It just dawned on me that we never asked where they got these." Mike realized.
"Gumball and Darwin bought them when they tried befriending Clayton." Anais informed her friends.
"...I'd believe it." Brian said simply.
"Somehow, I shouldn't be that surprised by that answer." said Mike, as he shook his head in annoyance.
"Anyway, moving on..." Gumball resumed, just as annoyed as Mike, before turning his attention to Gordon and Rupert.
Both of the grown men had never felt so humiliated, especially since they had been outsmarted by a bunch of kids, especially from Brian of all people.
"I can't believe we're doing this." Rupert muttered under his breath.
"Believe me when I say this, anything goes in Elmore." Gordon bluntly informed the older, grey wolf. "Let's get this over with."
Nodding in his head, the two wolves turned their attention to Anais, just in time to hear her speak.
"My name is Anais and I'll be asking you two a series of questions, but before that, do you two have anything else to say?"
"This is stupid."
"Can we go home now?"
In response, both Gumball and Darwin hit the remote, sending thousands of jolt of electricity from the collar, shocking both Gordon and Rupert.
"It's gonna be a long afternoon." Mike mumbled with his head in his hands.
"Alright, we'll do it! Just stop that already!" Gordon demanded, as he felt the after effects from the collar.
"The sooner, the better. This collar is already becoming a pain." said an irate Rupert.
"Good. Now, first question." Anais spoke to the two. "How would you describe your father, Mr. O'Quinn?"
"If you must know, he happens to be an uptight, no-nonsense jerk who was more interested in his job than his own son."
"Now how would you describe your son, Mr. O'Quinn?"
"Anais; you can use their first names, ya know!" Mike shouted.
The child prodigy, after some thinking, simply shrugged her shoulders before turning her attention to the older, grey wolf once more.
"Let me rephrase that last part: Now, how would you describe your son, Rupert?"
"He can be quite stubborn and rebellious at times, always ignoring my advice whenever he felt like it."
"That's only because you always frown on my favorite hobbies!" Gordon retorted.
"How is dismantling computers entertaining to you?!" Rupert argued back.
"How is typing a ten page report fun?!" Gordon answered in a form of a question.
The two were immediately shocked to stop the argument.
"Thank you." Anais said to Gumball and Darwin. "On to the next question. Gordon, did your dad actually spend time with you?"
"Sure Anais." the grey wolf casually replied. "He lectures me on how to a run a business all day and night."
"Don't you run the computer store, Dad?" Brian asked.
"Your grandfather wanted me to run a toy store." Gordon replied.
"Do you know how much money you could have made?!" Rupert argued. Darwin and Gumball once again pressed the buttons, shocking the wolves.
"Man, I love doing this." Gumball remarked.
"Same here." Darwin agreed.
"Alright guys, that's enough." the child prodigy informed her brothers, the two of them complying with her demands, as they stopped what they were doing. "Alright Rupert, have you ever spent any time with your son?"
"Of course." the older, grey wolf insisted. "It wasn't about business all the time. I even took him to watch some movies every now and then."
"Most of the 'movies', if you call them, are nothing more than old-fashioned silent films." Gordon retorted.
"I thought you would enjoy the classics." Rupert insisted.
"Maybe you should have told me what kind of movies we were about to watch."
"I assumed your generation knew about them."
"Guys..." Brian began, as he turned to the Watterson brothers, as the two prepared themselves to press the button on their remote.
But before they could have a chance, however, both wolves turned around and immediately dashed towards them, snatching the remotes out of their hands, before facing each other, much to the five's discomfort.
'This isn't going to be good.' Mike thought.
"You always never listen to what I want to do." Gordon argued, before he pressed the button, shocking his father.
"Maybe because they don't sound like good ideas." Rupert asserted, before pressing the button, shocking his son.
"You need to take risks, no matter what!"
"And sometimes, taking risks can get you into trouble!"
"You're only saying that because you never tried it yourself!"
"Are you implying that I'm coward?!"
"That's exactly what I'm implying!"
As the wolves continued to argue with each other, with Gordon and Rupert continuing to shock each other, Brian, Mike and the Watterson siblings continued to look on, uncertain what to do at this point.
"Guys, I don't think this is such a good idea after all." Brian informed his friends.
"That's what I've been trying to tell you all along." Mike informed the purple fox.
"So our plan didn't go the way we had envisioned." Anais commented.
"So far, they're just shocking and arguing with each other." Gumball noted.
"At least things can't get any worse." Darwin casually said.
After the wolves finished their arguments, both of them threw the remotes down and proceeded to take fighting stances. After a few intense moments of starting, Gordon and Rupert immediately rushed towards each other and before long, the two began to exchange punches and kicks one after another, tumbling into another area and even damaging a small portion of the warehouse. But with each passing minute, the fight grew much more intense and soon, they began to destroy much larger portions of the warehouse, much to the five's shock.
"Now's the time to get out and I mean out!" Mike shouted, before he and his friends quickly ran to the nearest exit, just as the building finally caved in, imploding from the inside, as everyone made their way to a safe distance. Before long, there was movement underneath the rubble and eventually, both Gordon and Rupert emerged out of the wreckage, miraculously unscathed from the damage, before resuming their fight once more and before any of the kids knew what happened, both wolves were tumbling far from the wreckage and all the way to the town, much to their dismay.
"We really need to stop saying that word." Anais moaned, before a certain maroon badger spoke up.
"So Mr. Psychiatrist, do you have a plan B?" Mike asked Gumball.
"They didn't train me to have a plan B!" Gumball shouted back.
"Are you serious?!" Brian yelled, annoyed by the blue feline's response. "We need to come up with something before my dad and grandpa end up destroying the town!"
"Wait a minute; I think I know someone who can stop them!" Darwin happily exclaimed, much to the four's surprise.
"You do?" they asked simultaneously.
"Of course I do! But there's no time to explain, just trust me on this one."
Gumball, Anais, Brian and Mike looked at each other, uncertain whether they should indeed trust the two-legged fish. But as much as they wanted to disagree with him, it was neither the time nor place to do so; right now, they need to stop Gordon and Rupert from fighting before it was too late.
"Alright Darwin, lead the way." said Brian.
"Thanks and don't worry, you guys won't regret this."
'For our sakes, I hope not.' Mike thought with uncertainty, before he and his friends followed the two-legged fish's lead.
The fight between Gordon and Rupert was intense, as the wolves continued to trade blows, all the while rebounding from one place after another.
Shortly after coming out from the wreckage of the warehouse, both wolves found themselves at Food N' Stuff, as they grabbed various foods and drink from the inventory and proceeded to throw them at each other. After clearing out the shelves, the two took their fight outside, destroying the pavement, as well as several cars and lampposts, before entering Ripley 2000, causing massive damage to several games and consoles, as the manager watched in horror. Finally, both wolves got out of the video game store and resumed their fight once more, causing massive damage along the way, including several buildings in the process, eventually ending up at the park.
For their part, Brian, Mike and the Watterson siblings cautiously followed them and the trail of destruction in their path, while Darwin went in the opposite direction for help. By the time to the four made their way to the park, Elmore was in bad shape, as Gordon and Rupert continued on with their fight, oblivious of the chaos they have created.
"How are two people destroying half the town?!" Gumball shouted.
"Kinda ironic coming from you." Mike stated.
Gumball responded by glaring at the maroon badger, before Brian spoke up.
"Guys, this is no time for arguments. Right now, we need to focus on stopping my dad and grandpa from killing each other."
"And anyone in the general vicinity." Anais added.
In the midst of their conversation, Darwin managed to show up after his sudden disappearing act, worn out from running and along with him where Annie and Nicole, who came with him at the two-legged fish's insistence.
"What on earth is happening?!" Annie shouted as she watched the scene.
"Who is Gordon fighting with?" Nicole asked the kids, prompting Brian to take a deep breath before answering her question.
"Long, story short, my dad is fighting my grandpa due to them not getting along with each other. We tried to help them out, but made things worse instead."
"What?!" Annie shouted in disbelief before storming off towards the fighting father and son.
"And I thought I had a complicated relationship with Granny Jojo." Nicole commented, before quickly following the outraged older, purple fox.
"GORDON!"
Gordon stopped fighting for a split second before taking a stiff punch to the face.
As Gordon fell on to the ground, Rupert, stunned by this, turned to see two people that he wasn't familiar with, as one of them looked at him with a look of anger on her face.
"BOTH OF YOU! HERE!" She screamed as she pointed to the ground directly in front of her. "NOW!"
In a state of sheer panic, both wolves immediately got up and made their way to face Annie and Nicole, as both women gave them a stern look, before the former began to talk to them.
"I don't know what's going on, but this ends right now! You two have some explaining to do back at the house!"
Before long, Annie proceeded to grab both of them by the ears and begin to drag them home, as Nicole and the kids looked on.
"Shall we follow them home in case Annie needs our help?" asked Nicole.
"I think Mom's got this." Brian responded with a smirk.
"I'm going to agree with Brian on this one." Gumball said nervously.
"Gumball's right, Mrs. O'Quinn is even scarier than you, Mrs. Mom." Darwin agreed.
After arriving at the O'Quinn residence, Annie brought the two of them to the living room before letting go of their ears, as they stood up and listened with fear crawling down in their spines, as the irate older, purple fox began to talk to them, marching back and forth, as she looked at them rather wearily.
"You two should be ashamed of yourselves! Instead of working out your differences like real men, you and my husband end up bickering with each other like children, destroying half of the town in the process and arguing over something that happened decades ago! Is there anything you two have to say about that?!"
As Annie crossed her arms, waiting patiently for either of them to speak, Gordon and Rupert looked at each other, both feeling guilty for what they have done, before turning their attentions to the older, purple fox, the former deciding to speak first.
"I'm so sorry for everything, Annie. Neither me nor my dad never meant for any of this to happen."
"I too also take full responsibility for my actions. We shouldn't have let our grudges get the best of us from the beginning."
Annie continued to look at them and for a moment, it appeared she didn't buy their apologies, much to their discomfort. Slowly but surely, however, the stern look that was on the older, purple fox slowly faded away, replaced with a look of relief, leaving the wolves no doubt that she had accepted their apologies.
"Alright, I forgive you two for your actions. But right now you need get your butts out to the street and clean up the mess you two made."
Both Gordon and Rupert looked at each other and smiled, before nodding their heads in agreement and heading out through the front door, while Annie couldn't help but be satisfied, glad that she was able to solve the situation before it got worse.

Tidbits
-It's been a long while, but I finally manage to do a chapter about Gordon's family and in this case, I did one about his dad.
-For the voice of Rupert, I imagined Malcolm McDowell to do his voice, due to his voice roles such as Stahl from Kill zone 3.
-I wanted to thank Sal for his help on this chapter.
I hope everyone enjoyed reading The Wolf and I'll see ya next chapter!
