Wingfic for sw087!
(Also and unofficial prequel to Destiny Wings)

She was falling, tumbling, screaming. Her quiet calm had broken several moments after her hand had slipped from him, her peaceful acceptance replaced with terror as she spun. She had obviously seen the ground, had obviously imagined the horrible scene of her death upon impact. Maybe she was screaming because she had seen him jump, he didn't really care, all that mattered was that he had to catch her.

If he could catch her, he could save her. He wasn't sure how, but he knew that if he didn't both of them would die.

He straightened himself out, trying to make himself fall faster, to hurry his descent so he could catch Sheba's tumbling form. She was getting closer and closer, her screams clearer and clearer over the whistling rush of the wind in his ears.

Then they stopped.

There were no screams, just the air as he dove toward her and the rustling of his clothes all around him. He thought the worst immediately. Perhaps the fear had taken its toll on her young body, maybe the tumbling had caused internal damage. He told himself she had probably passed out, but the fears rushed at him just as the wind did.

He caught her eventually, wrapping his arms around her fragile frame and holding her closer. He grunted sadly, trying to hold back his own tears as he looked at the ground below, rushing at him with every moment that passed. He didn't know why he dived, he just did, and now they would both die. Jenna would lose him again, their parents forever trapped in Prox, Weyard slowly crumbling into nothingness.

All for his desperate attempt to save Sheba.

He shook his head, pulling Sheba closer to him. It was a bit late he knew, but he tried to manoeuvre himself so he would be the first to land. Maybe it would soften the blow for her, letting her survive… he knew it wouldn't work.

"I'll protect you. I promise." He whispered, he kept his promises as best he could.

At his words, Psynergy flared around him, powerful Psynergy, stronger anything he had felt sine the lighting of Venus' Beacon. He looked down and he saw the sea wash over the land, but ti wouldn't matter, colliding with the water would still kill them… just… not as grotesquely. The purple entered his eye, shining and shimmering as it spread further.

He glanced back at the obviously still unconscious girl in his arms to see purple lights gathering and extending from her back. He swallowed, marvelling at the sight, before they formed two shining purple wing-like structures. He gazed at them for a moment, before they flapped. Their momentum was immediately broken, the wings continued to flap and they slowed, still approaching the sea-covered land beneath.

"Sh-Sheba… you…" Felix gasped, becoming even more confused as the girl remained limp and unresponsive in his arms. He gazed back at the wings as they extended outwards, bringing them to a glide. He started laughing slightly, disbelief and adrenaline exhilarating him all in one.

He looked out over the seas as they glided away from Venus Lighthouse, dropping ever closer to the water, and he saw an island… no… Idejima! He grunted in worry, hoping that Jenna and Kraden had made it in time, and that they were okay. He tried his best to steer toward the now drifting island.

It was not long before they impacted the sea, being swallowed by the all-consuming blue. Gasping and spluttering, Felix struggled back to the surface, having hated water since the night of the Boulder, dragging with him a now wingless Sheba. Desperately, he kicked and smashed his arm against the waters surrounding him, trying to find the strength to carry both him and the girl he had sowrn to protect to the safety of the floating peninsula.

When at last he finally touched upon the gentle sands of the island, Felix gently stroked the girl's hair before passing out.

Yeaah. Not great I guess, but hey. *shrug*
