Solor's funk lasted a few weeks. He refused to leave his room, no matter what. Of course, he did sneak out a few times in order to get food, but otherwise, he stayed put, thinking about what Slade had done. It eventually lead to Starfire stopping at his door every day, spending hours waiting for him to either open the door or at least speak to her. Finally, one day, she knocked on the door gently, attempting once again to reach one of her best friends.
"Solor?" she called, hoping he'd hear her. "It is Starfire… again… I was hoping that you would allow me to enter today… I need to tell you something." When she heard no response, she continued slowly. "Tomorrow is a special festival for my people. It is Blorthog, the festival of friendship… and I would like to see you at least try to be with our friends for it."
Another pause of silence. When Solor did not answer, she looked down, dejected, and began to walk away. But suddenly, the whoosh of the sliding door entered her ears, and when she turned, she saw her friend exit. He looked horrible, with his long hair messed up and frizzled from lack of care, while his eyes were sunken and had many rings under them from a lack of sleep. He looked at her, and for once, she saw not the strong, vain Solor she knew, but a weak shadow of his old self. Was Slade's attack on his mind truly bothering him that much?
"Starfire", he croaked, his voice not having been used for a long time. "I… do not belong with you and your friends… I am… a monster…"
"But you are not!" Starfire said, tears forming in her eyes. She flew forward and wrapped her arms around him, surprising him. "Slade has a tighter grip on you than we thought… if you believe that you are a monster. A monster would have destroyed the city without the aid of a machine or a chemical. A monster would have betrayed us long ago. A monster… would have never freed me."
Something about Starfire's words reached him in a way he had never thought of before. They were true and honest… and they certainly had a point. If he were a monster, would he have joined the Teen Titans? If he were a monster, would he have accepted his banishment? No… he would have done terrible things if he was. And so far, if the rest of the team was right, he had done nothing but good once he had become part of the Teen Titans. Slowly, his arms wrapped around Starfire, and for the first time in a very long time, he wept tears of joy. He was so happy that what he thought was wrong that he couldn't contain himself, and he cried onto Starfire's shoulder, who only rubbed his back and comforted him.
A few minutes later, Solor eventually stopped crying, sniffing a bit as he pulled away. He began wiping his tears away, smiling at his best friend. "Starfire, I must thank you for your kind words. But do not tell anyone else of what has transpired here. I must be strong for the team, and if they knew I had a moment of weakness, they would never let me live it down."
Starfire smiled, and shook her head. "Your secret is safe with me, friend Solor. Now, go get cleaned up and get some rest. You look like a Phinblak", she said, giggling. He didn't know what she meant by that, but he figured it was time for a long shower, and a good night's sleep for once.
After all, to Starfire, tomorrow was an important day.
XxXxX
The very next morning, Solor awoke bright and early (or as bright and early as he could). He wanted this day to be perfect for his friends, for everything that they had done together. Sure, they were a bunch of humans and an alien, but they were still better than most of the trash he had met as he lived here. And if it was important to one of them, by the Alpha, it was important for all of them to be involved.
The first destination he needed to head for? Starfire's room. What with her getting him out of his terribly unhealthy state, he felt that he owed her the most. He arrived just as her door opened, and when she stuck her head out, he only smiled at her. "Happy… I believe you called it Blorthog, did you not?"
Starfire giggled, happy that he remembered, and pulled up a necklace made of small bells. Solor lowered his head, allowing her to place the necklace upon him, before she giggled again, hugging him tightly. "Oh, happy Blorthog, Solor! May you forever be blessed with the company of your friends!" she said, smiling happily. Normally, he'd have a witty rebuttal, but he decided to bite his tongue instead. After all, this was very important, according to her.
Maybe it was time to just stop reiterating how important Blorthog was.
Upon entering the Titans' living room, though, it was obvious that the others had not heard of this festival at all… from how they seemed to bicker. Repeatedly, Starfire attempted to give the same type of necklace, a "tenabula", to the others, but in the end, the bickering got to the point that the necklace was broken. At that, Solor had enough, and released a roar louder than anything he had ever let out before, forcing everyone to cover their ears and stop fighting immediately.
"What is wrong with all of you?!" he bellowed. "This is not how friends should act! Not on this day!"
"Yes, do you all wish to invite the Rekmas?!" Starfire continued, confusing everyone. After a prompt from Beast Boy, she explained herself. "On my planet, it means the Drifting, the point where friends begin to drift apart, and their friendship begins to die."
"Oh, come on, you two!" Cyborg started.
"Yeah, we're not Rek-whatevering!" Beast Boy stumbled, unable to pronounce the alien word.
Raven only agreed. "We're just getting on each other's nerves a little. Big deal."
"Yeah, this is just typical roommate stuff. We're not drifting apart, Starfire, I promise", Robin attempted to assure. "We'll all be friends forever".
"Forever?" Starfire asked, hoping his words were true.
"And when did you take into account Tameranean festivals, Solor?" Raven asked.
"Yeah", Beast Boy added. "It's not like you've been doing anything important for the team while we did all the hard work."
"I admit, my actions have not been for the best as of late", Solor admitted. "But Starfire has shown me the truth, and the error of my thoughts. I must repay her friendship and kindness by helping with this festival."
It was then the moment the alarm went off, and their future would forever be changed.
XxXxX
Starfire had to admit; warping twenty years to the future was definitely not planned on Blorthog.
Upon arriving at the museum of clocks in Jump City, a villain by the name of Warp had made his entrance, attempting to steal something known as the Clock of Eternity. In the end, he was able to defeat the Teen Titans, and was about to escape if it weren't for Starfire tackling him and damaging his suit before they arrived at their destination. It was then that her greatest fear had been lived; her friends were no longer friends.
Cyborg, the technical master of the group, was now obsolete. Although he tried his best to keep up with upcoming technology, he fell into sever disrepair. So much so, that attempting to leave the tower became a moot point. Now, he could only build new things with the scraps he could find in the crumbling tower. However, that didn't mean he didn't know where the others were, and was able to give Starfire the locations of Beast Boy and Raven. Robin and Solor, apparently, had gone into hiding, with Solor leaving shortly after Starfire's disappearance. He did hint, however, that she should visit the museum where they lost her, and to… not mention Robin's name.
Beast Boy was a circus freak now. One that feared for his life. Instead of being in a cage to keep himself in, he used the walls to keep the true freaks out, unable to hurt him if they couldn't reach him. He had attempted to go into the hero business on his own after the Titans disbanded, but apparently that didn't go well.
Raven… well, it was never explained what happened to Raven. She simply… lost her mind. And there was nothing that anyone could do to save her now. She was just too far gone, to the point where she was haunted by hallucinations of Starfire. She didn't even acknowledge the Tameranean when she visited her clean, pure white room.
Now, here she was, in front of the museum where it had all happened. And this time, there was no villain, no clocks, nothing but an empty space.
And twenty tenabulas.
Starfire gasped, staring at the necklaces. Tears filled her eyes, as she looked at the ground. Twenty of these necklaces lay on the ground, in a small pile, with what looked like scratches placed right at their base. She recognized the scratches as words, but they were not in a language that she knew of. "Who could have made these?" she asked out loud, as if to herself.
Only… she wasn't alone.
A low growl filled the air, and Starfire stiffened. Slowly, she turned around, and came face to face with an elongated, bronze snout, definitely larger than her head. Sharp teeth poked out from under its lip, and it was attached to a head that lay on a long, armored neck. Wings flared, claws poised and ready to attack, the young alien could only stare in awe at the monster before her. And yet, she was not afraid.
Probably because those eyes looked so familiar.
Suddenly, smoke poured out of its mouth, blinding her. When it finally blew away, thanks to the draft in the abandoned building, Solor was there, as if he hadn't aged a day. And he was holding a necklace in his hands.
"Friend Solor!" she cried, flying forward and hugging him once more. He chuckled, and held her as well.
"It's good to see you, Krein", he said, smiling. "How lingrah has it been?" At her face at his words, he cursed. "Krosis… I meant 'long'. How long has it been?"
"But you… you have not aged, either", Starfire said, confused. "Did… did you come after me?"
"No, I did not", Solor said, pulling away from her. "I've been living in the same tiid as the rest of the group, Krein. I'm twenty years older than the Solor you know."
"Your speech… it is not-"
"What it used to be?" Solor asked, smiling as he placed the necklace on the ground. "Well… I've lived with dov for fifteen years… my native tinvaak is what I speak now."
"Fifteen years? But… you lived with your people all your life! How did you not have trouble speaking english when you first met us?"
"My bormah - father - had me strictly speak in the human tongue for five months before I was let loose into the world", Solor explained. "Krosis, Kreinyol… but I must go."
"No, please!" Star said, grabbing his hand. "Warp has dragged me here! You must help me return to my own time!"
"I've said before, my young fahdon… my ahmik is to my people now", he replied, turning back to her with a sorrow she'd never seen before. "I am allowed once a year to dahmaan my closest friends."
"But… there is no one here", Starfire said, confused.
"I know", he said, smiling sadly. "That's because I lost my closest fahdonne… a long time ago." He looked forward. "I have lost myself to the vahrukt - memory - of you so many times… I have kept them ahst vaal. But this, the twentieth bok of the day I lost you… I refuse to fall for it again."
Starfire stared, losing her hope in her friend. "Solor, do you think I am… not really here?"
Solor nodded. "It has been mahfaeraak for our friends, Kreinyol, but to me it has been a sul - day. And I refuse to lose myself to the memory once again."
"But Solor", Starfire began, flying in front of him, "I am here! I am real! I need your help, and so do our friends!" She grabbed his shoulders, stopping him from leaving. "We must find Warp, and fix the past!"
Solor moved to walk past her, but when she resisted, he looked confused. He attempted to walk past her, but every time, she pushed him back, keeping him from leaving. Eventually he growled, and attempted to push whatever it was that was in his way. However, she pushed her hand up into his, grabbing his fingers. And finally, it clicked in his head. He stopped pushing instantly, and for the first time, he really looked at her. "Impossible… you are… real?"
"Yes, Solor. I am here", the tameranean replied. And for the second time in the last few hours (to her), he surprised her by suddenly pulling her into a tight hug.
"Th-this… this is real", he whispered, almost as if he was assuring himself. He then pulled back. "B-But… how…?" It was then that he noticed what she was holding, and growled a bit. "Warp…"
"We must find Warp", Starfire said, forgetting the words Cyborg had told her. "We must also find Robin. He is the only Titan that I have not reached yet."
At the mention of the name, Solor growled a bit. "Kinbok", he growled. "It's always Kinbok this and Kinbok that… it's because of him that I gave up on helping Jul long ago." Solor turned around. "I'll help you find him, Kreinyol… but I will not be helping Kinbok with anything."
"Solor… what happened to you?" Starfire asked. "The boy I knew would never have given up! He would have fought to the end to save the people of this city!"
"That kiir is no more, mal fahdon", he replied. "But… the dovah that he has become… will krii wah fin oblaan - fight to the end… to help a friend." He stretched his wings, and for once, smiled a determined, strong grin that reminded her of the Solor of her time. "Let us bo - fly. We have much to do."
XxXxX
It hadn't taken long to find Warp. Whilst traveling in the city, the two Titans were ambushed by him. "What's the matter, Titans? Have I come at a bad time?" he said, shooting energy from his shoulder-mounted cannons. The two flew up, attempting to fight him with starbolts and fire, but his shield persisted. And with a wave of his hand, for some reason, the two were frozen and forced to the ground in a painful crash. Solor stood up, attempting to help his friend, but noticed something off.
"You have aged, tiid wunduniik", he noted. "And yet you travel through time… how?"
At that, Warp scowled. "That's what happens when someone steals my vortex regulator. Now, if you please", he said, stretching out his hand. "I really must get back to my future."
"If you ever wish to see your future", Starfire growled, her eyes glowing green as she held the device in her hand with a threatening scowl, "you will repair the damage you have done to my past!"
That made Warp raise an eyebrow. "Damage? Silly girl… there is nothing wrong with your past. You cannot damage history because history cannot be changed", he replied, making both Titans flinch in despair. He held up the clock that had caused all of this before. "I went back in time to steal this, because history says it disappeared. And history says it disappeared because I went back in time to steal it. Past, present, future - it is all written in stone, children."
At that, Starfire began to lose hope again. So there was nothing she could do to stop her friends from drifting? While distracted by these thoughts, the time traveler took the regulator, before aiming a weapon at the dragon.
And he would have fired, if not for the shadow that suddenly struck him.
At this, Solor growled, and immediately stepped in front of Starfire, causing confusion. "Solor?"
"It's good to see you too, Solor", the newcomer said, sounding sarcastic. The voice easily rang a bell in the alien's memory.
"Robin?" Starfire asked, peeking over the dragon's shoulder. "Is that truly you?"
"I haven't used that name in a long time", the former leader said, stepping out of the shadows. "Call me Nightwing."
"Ful, fin nivahriin kinbok daal", Solor spoke, his voice filled with growls. "You reek of dukaan."
"I don't know what you said, but I'm sure it isn't flattering, salamander", Nightwing said, glaring. "How did you find her?"
"By chance", Solor replied. "Vovoth him - without your aid." He snarled a bit, then sighed. "But my task is done. I now return to my people."
"Fine", Nightwing said. "Come on, Star… I'll take you somewhere so we can track down Warp."
Starfire looked torn. At opposite ends of the alley were her two best friends, each going different directions. And even now, they were drifting apart.
Not anymore.
"Solor", she called to the dragon, stopping him. "Please… is it still Blorthog?" she asked.
"… I do not know the true date of the festival… but I celebrate it on this day with every passing year", he replied, a small smile forming on his face.
"Then… as friends… will you come with us?"
At first, it looked as though Solor wouldn't accept. But slowly, he turned around. "Fine. I shall aid you, Kreinyol, and you, Vulonviing."
"It's Nightwing."
"That is what I said. Vulonviing."
XxXxX
The operation was a success. With the help of all of the Titans, who got Nightwing's signal, Warp had been defeated. Now, as they looked to the wormhole that Cyborg was redirecting, Solor looked to his friend.
"I suppose this is farewell", he said.
"Please… must this be our future?" she asked, looking desperately at her friends. "Is there nothing I can do to change it?"
Nightwing approached the two, handing Starfire the clock that history said went missing, and immediately she understood.
History could be changed.
"Starfire!" Solor called out, making her pause. "Tell this to myself", he said, before whispering in her ear. The minute the last syllable was out of his mouth, he gently pushed her into the portal.
"Then Nightwing handed me the clock, and I entered the vortex", Starfire finished, telling her story to her friends.
All of them stared in shocked silence. "Woah", Raven stated, her usual monotone voice sounding very surprised.
"BALD?!" Beast Boy cried out. "You're telling me I'm gonna be BALD?!" He pulled at his hair, whimpering like a small child.
"I guess you were right about all that rekmas stuff", Cyborg said, his face becoming more and more depressed as the atmosphere fell.
"I don't want us to drift apart", Robin said, with Solor silently nodding. "Is there anything we can-"
"Our friendship has already changed Warp's past", Starfire interrupted, a small smile on her face. "I believe it can change our future as well."
"So…" Raven began, using her magic to put back the broken necklace from earlier that day, "… is it too late to do this festival of friendship thing?"
"It is never too late!" Starfire said, both moved by her kindness and overjoyed by her friends' acceptance of the festival. As everyone began to celebrate, putting on the necklaces that she had brought for them, she noticed Solor looking out the window. She approached him, and before she could ask what was wrong, he spoke up.
"'Vahrukt se vahdinsevulkreinne'", he said, confusing her. "'Memory of the maiden of the stars'. That is what those scratches meant." He chuckled. "I would leave a memorial to you if you vanished… you are… precious to me."
Hearing that made Starfire happier than she ever felt on this day. Then she remembered the words. "Solor… the future you… told me something that I should tell you… although I do not recognize the language."
"It is most likely the tongue of my people", Solor said. "Tell me, what did I say?"
"…V-Vulom", Starfire began, struggling with the words that she was not used to saying. "Vulom evenaar jun."
At that, Solor froze. He had heard those words before, but only in his lessons of history. "Impossible…" he whispered.
"Solor? What does it mean?" Starfire asked, snapping him out of his thoughts.
"…Nothing", he said, waving his hand. He put on a large smile, not wanting to worry his friend. "It is gibberish. Nothing but a fairy tale to my people." He put his hand on her shoulders, turning her around. "Come. We must celebrate that we have not lost you, our dearest friend." Starfire wasn't convinced, but she nodded, and soon they were all celebrating Blorthog.
Meanwhile, the words echoed in his mind.
Vulom evenaar jun.
Darkness extinguish light.
XxXxX
Yes, I threw in skyrim dragon language. So what? I was too lazy to come up with my own.
