Episode 60: The Darkness Within Part 1

Oblivion is sitting on his new throne. He looks forward and says, "You may come in."

On the other side of the room, a door opens and Scourge steps in. He says, "I hadn't even knocked yet."

Oblivion responds, "I see all."

Scourge bows, and says, "Yes, of course. How silly of me to comment." He gets back up and asks, "You called?"

"Yes, I did. Ruin has failed."

Scourges eyes light up. "Does that mean…?"

"Yes. It is time for your plan. Sending a Disciple directly to defeat Yuni has failed. It is time to create a weapon to fight him with."

Scourge smiles. "Which means that it is time to pay a visit to my favorite person in the world. Oh boy!"

Yugi/Yuni is standing in the center of the ruined Disciple of Darkness base. Yugi, who is currently in control, is crying. Brutus, looking down from a hole in the roof, shouts in disbelief, "Did you just say Yuni's back!?"

Tori, next to Brutus shouts, "Yuni!?"

The two jump on to a pile of ruble, and use it to climb down to Yugi. Zenith, who was also up on top, climbs down behind them.

Yugi thinks, I thought you were gone…I thought that I'd lost you forever…

Yuni responds with confidence, Come on, you thought you could get rid of me that easily? You're stuck with me, whether you like it or not.

Brutus and Tori make it all the way down. Tori hugs him, and then Brutus comes in and bear hugs both of them, lifting them off the ground. Yugi stops crying, and Yuni takes over. He says, "Its good to see you too Brutus…but you're…choking…me…"

Brutus drops the two and scratches the back of his head. He says, "Sorry…"

Tori says with excitement, "We thought that you couldn't be recovered! What happened?"

Yuni looks down, and sees the back of his hand, which the yin-yang symbol manifests on. He says, "It's a long, long story."

Up above, where Tori and Brutus were, is Seto. He says casually, "I have absolutely no clue what you losers are going on about, and you know what? I really don't care. You guys are crazy." Seto walks off.

Yuni questions, "What was he doing here?"

Tori answers, "He helped us find you, but we never actually told him the truth about what happened."

Yuni turns and looks at Zenith. He says, "And you…you're that Zenith kid…right?"

Zenith is staring in awe at Yuni. He manages to nod. He than stammers, "Um…yes…that's me."

Yuni looks questioningly at Tori, she answers the unspoken question, "He was there when your mind was taken…so we kind of had to fill him in."

Brutus walks up behind Zenith and puts his arm around Zenith's neck and says, "He's been quite a help in trying to get you back. He's practically one of the group now."

Yuni nods. He extends a hand towards Zenith, and says, "Well then…in that case, thank you Zenith."

Zenith is in complete shock. He looks at Yuni's hand with reverence and says with disbelief, "You…want me to shake your hand?"

Yuni laughs and says, "Well what do you think that I want you to do, stand there and watch it?"

Zenith instantly grabs Yuni's hand begins to violently shaking it. He continues several seconds longer than he probably should have, and then quickly recoils his hand and awkwardly laughs.

Brutus asks, "What's up Zenith, you've been with Yugi for three days now."

Zenith responds, "But that was Yugi, not Yuni." He turns to Yuni and says, "I'm sorry, I'm sure that you remember, I'm your biggest fan."

Yuni laughs and says, "How could I forget?" Yuni looks around the base. He asks, "So it looks like I missed quite a bit too."

Tori responds, "More than you might think."

Yugi says, Hey Yuni?

Yeah?

It's good to have you back…I really mean it.

Yuni smiles. He says aloud, "I'm sure we have a lot of stories to swap, but if you three don't mind, I'd like to take a walk. Give myself a chance to gather my thoughts."

Brutus nods and says, "Of course buddy, whatever you need."

Yuni looks up and sees that its nighttime, and says, "I'll see you all tomorrow, and I'll be sure to tell you my entire story. Good night."

They all exchange good nights and climb up and out of the wrecked base.

Seto is walking through the city, back towards the Kaiba Corp. building. He thinks, Those guys are crazy. What were they going on about? It's as if Yuni had left, but he was right there. And how did that loser get his hands on an Egyptian God Card? Seto has a flashback to Yugi attacking with Slifer the Sky Dragon. The three Egyptian God Cards disappeared thousands of years ago. Several fakes have popped up, but something in the system also seems to reveal that they're fakes. He laughs and thinks, Not to mention, those fakers always meet an unfortunate end. What a strange coincidence. His thoughts then turn to the Battle Royale duel, of which he has a flashback of winning. I might have defeated all of those Disciples of Darkness, but none of them were the one who took my brother. When I get my hands on that Scourge…I'll…I'll…Let's just say that there won't be any punishment too harsh for him. Seto continues to walk in silence.

A beeping noise sounds. Seto taps the KC communicator on his chest and says, "Kaiba Ossius here. What is it?"

The voice on the other side says, "Sir, I have a priority level one communication for you."

This catches Seto's attention. He says, "Hmm…a priority one? Path it through to my personal communicator, audio only."

"Yes sir."

Another beeping sound is heard. Seto starts to says, "This is-"

The voice of Scourge on the other side interrupts, "It's so lovely to hear your voice again Seto. How are you?"

Seto instantly gets upset. He shouts, "How many times do I have to tell you! This channel is private! Stay off of my communication network!"

Scourge says with fake hurt, "But…Seto. This is important. Its about your brother."

Seto says with rage, "If you touch a single hair on his head…I swear, you will regret it!"

"But that's exactly why I'm calling you. I'm ready to give him back." Seto is speechless. Scourge questions, "Umm…Seto…hello…?"

Seto asks solemnly, "What do I have to do?"

"All you have to do is come to the abandoned warehouse in the shipping district. Once you get there, everything else will be revealed. Until then Seto." A chime sounds to indicate the end of the transmission.

Seto thinks, Don't worry little brother. I'm coming.

Yuni is walking along the oceanfront of Domino City at night. Yugi says, Wow, so you're the Lord of Chaos. This is unbelievable.

Yuni responds, Yeah, I know. I'm not even sure if I believe it.

What you said before is right. Now more than ever it is important for us to protect the Balance. Now our mission to stop Oblivion and the Disciples of Darkness is even more vital.

Yuni sighs. Yeah, it's a lot of pressure. I wish that I could just talk to Apep one more time. I still need so much guidance.

Yugi says excitedly, Wait, but you can! We still have the data chip!

You're right! We do! Yuni removes the data chip from his necklace, and places it on his palm. He concentrates and activates his technokinesis.

The next moment Yuni is floating in the data stream. In front of him is Apep. Apep says, "What is it Yugi?"

Yuni shakes his head.

Apep questions, "Yuni?"

Yuni nods and says, "It's good to see you again Apep."

Apep comes in close and hugs Yuni. He says, "I take it that you being here means that I am no more." Yuni slowly nods. "Then all is as it should be." Apep steps back again.

Yuni, on the verge of tears, says, "Everything went fine. I restored the balance and became the Lord of Chaos." He holds up his hand to show Apep the yin-yang.

Apep nods. "I am so proud of you Yuni that words that can not even explain it." He hangs his head in sorrow. "However, that also means that this is the last conversation that we will have."

Yuni looks confused. "What do you mean?"

Apep sighs. "I mean that I can offer you no more guidance. As soon as you cease your connection with the data chip, a program that I inserted will cause it to self destruct."

Yuni is speechless. He manages to ask, "Why…?"

"I am no longer in existence. I was not meant to give you guidance."

Yuni asserts, "So what!? Why does that matter!? You still can!"

"No…I can not. Even if the real me still existed, I could not. It is one of the laws of the Society of Chaos. When a new Lord of Chaos ascends to the throne, the previous one must vanish. The new Lord of Chaos must rule without aide from those who come before him, or else manipulation may occur."

"But you wouldn't manipulate me!"

"I know, but it is still the rule nonetheless."

Yuni is crying. "I've already lost you twice now…do I really have to again?"

Apep sighs. "I'm so sorry Yuni…but you do."

"How will I know what to do? I have practically no knowledge on the Society. I don't know how to run an organization."

"The Society does not need to be ran. It is self-organizing. And know, that whenever you need help, any in the society will come at your call, no matter where you are, or where they are. Just call to them, and they will appear before you, ready to serve."

Yuni slowly nods.

Apep states, "If were up to me, I would never force you into to this fate, but it would appear that destiny had other plans."

Yuni takes a deep breath, and raises his head. He says, "It has been an honor to know you Apep. I only wish that you could have been around more."

Apep responds, "That Yuni, is my only regret." The two move closer and hug each other. Yuni smiles and nods. Apep says, "Farewell Lord Yuni, may Chaos protect and watch over you."

"Goodbye Apep." Yuni exits the data stream, and reappears in the real world. The data chip in his hand sparks several times and then starts to smoke. Yuni thinks, And that's it. Apep really is gone this time.

Yugi says, I am so sorry Yuni.

Yuni looks out towards the ocean and thinks, I feel like I should be more upset than I am, but for whatever reason, I'm not.

You've already said good bye to Apep twice now. This wasn't so much of a goodbye, as it was one last chance to see him.

Yuni nods in agreement.

Seto is standing outside of an old warehouse by the ocean. He thinks, This is the place. My brother is in there, and I'm going to get him back, and exact my revenge upon Scourge. Here I come.

Seto steps into the warehouse. It is dark and empty. Seto shouts out, "I'm here Scourge! Show yourself you lowly coward!"

Scourge answers, "Why Seto, there's no need for name calling. I'm right here." Fingers are heard snapping, and then the lights turn on, revealing Scourge standing up above on some scaffolding.

Seto demands, "Where's my brother you scum!?"

Scourge jumps off the platform and gently floats down, by some unknown means, to the floor. He says, "Now, now Seto, what have I said before about that temper of yours? I promised you that your brother was safe, and if I am nothing else, I'm a man of my word."

"I'll believe it when I see it."

Scourge sighs. "Oh fine, if you must." He pulls out a remote control, and presses a button on it. A holographic screen appears in the air next to him. On the screen is a young boy huddled up in a fetal position in the corner of a dark room.

Seto shouts in anger, "What have you done to him!?"

Scourge looks offended. "Why Seto, whatever makes you think that I would do anything to your precious little brother? No, he only looks like that because he's been trapped in solitary confinement for four months now. But that would be your fault."

"My fault!?"

"You could have freed him long ago, if you only just completed the tasks that we asked you to. But instead you failed them all."

Seto is incredibly angry. He shouts, "Enough of this! What is it that I have to do to get him back!?"

"I was afraid that you'd never ask. It's simple. All you have to do is defeat me in a duel."

"Is that all? Are you really that desperate to get rid of him?"

Scourge smiles devilishly. "You could say that."

"Fine then, let's duel!"

Both activate their Duel Gauntlets. The Duel Computer says, "Official World of Duel Tournament duel now commencing. Seto Ossius: 6,534 points vs. Scourge: 264 points. Scanning decks…decks accepted. Commence dueling."

Both say at once, "Let's duel!"

Seto asserts, "I'll take the first move!" He draws. "I summon Plasma Soul via its effect (Light/Level 5/Thunder/Effect/ATK 0/DEF 0)! Then since I just normal summoned a Plasma monster, I can special summon Plasma Star from my hand (Light/Level 5/Pyro/Effect/ATK 2100/DEF 0)! Now that I control two level five monsters, you know what comes next! I tribute them both in order to summon Cosmic Plasma Dragon (Light/Level 8/Dragon/Effect/ATK 3000/DEF 2500)!" Seto's mighty dragon appears on the field in a burst of light and gives a great roar. "Now that my most trusted monster is out, I'll end my turn (Seto's hand: 3). There's no way that I'll lose this duel!"

Scourge laughs. "We'll have to see about that." He draws.

Yuni is continuing to walk along the oceanfront. He's now entered the shipping district. He hears the noise of something roaring. Yuni looks around to see find source. He eyes settle upon the abandoned warehouse, where he sees flashing lights.

Yuni thinks, Hey, it looks like there's a duel going on in there!

Yugi questions, At this time of night? And in a building like that?

I don't know. Let's go check it out.

Yuni walks into the warehouse and sees Seto dueling Scourge. Scourge is saying, "We'll have to see about that." Scourge draws a card.

Yuni exclaims, "Seto, what's going on here!?"

The two duelists look at Yuni. Seto says with annoyance, "Get out of here Yuni, its none of your business."

Scourge says, "I agree. This is between Seto and me."

Seto says angrily, "Don't you ever agree with me again!" He faces Yuni, "Fine, stay if you want."

Yuni notices the holographic image of Seto's brother. He thinks, That must be Seto's little brother! They're dueling over him!

Scourge says, "Fine, he can stay. What do I care? Anyways, I was about to play my first card. I might have neglected to mention the fact that I have changed my deck since we last dueled."

Seto responds, "What you have done to your deck is of no concern to me."

"I think you might care about this actually. You see, I've rebuilt my deck in order to counter your deck. My first example is with this card. I activate Galactic Scourge! As long as I control this card, there are a few things that you can't do. That list includes changing the levels of monsters and tributing monsters."

Seto looks horrified. "But…but that would mean that I can't…"

Scourge finishes, "That would mean that you can not summon your Quantus, the Spatial Lord, or Cosmic Tri-Pulsar Dragon. You will have to duel without your most powerful monsters. The outlook of both you and your brother aren't bright."
