Jack sped through the air, staff held out in front of him. His white hair was tugged back, so much so that it felt as if it were going to be ripped off his head. He could see the castle in the distance, blotted out by snowflakes, large mounds of snow. It seemed to get farther away as he advanced as well, the wind biting playfully at his cheeks.
"Damn it!" he muttered as he felt himself shake, his muscles aching from flying. He couldn't stop though- he wouldn't stop. He had to get there for Anna. I have to get there for Elsa, he thought, biting his lip as he plowed forward. The castle looked to be a few feet away.
"Wind! Can't you help me go any faster?" Jack complained to no one in particular. He was about to swing his staff when a sudden gust of wind propelled him towards the castle, teeth chattering as he tried gaining some control over his speed. Unfortunately, it was to no avail, as he found himself spiraling at the ground, landing headfirst into a large bank of powdered snow. Shaking his head, he pulled himself out of the snow, the white fluff making a beard on his chin.
"I guess North dos have an influence on me," he joked to himself as he dusted himself off, ruffling a hand through his hair. Snow fell from the strands like feathers, floating gently to his feet. Looking around, he saw snow, and the castle.
Even from a foot away, it was slightly intimidating- a bit mores than Elsa's makeshift one on the North Mountain. Tall spires waved flags of purple and green- Arendelle's official colors. Ice bloomed in the snow as Jack made his way towards the castle gates, squinting his eyes as he tried peering through the wind and snow. He almost had to close his eyes, they were tearing up from the bitterness of the wind. Come on, Jack, he urged himself, you need to get to the castle!
"Jack!"
Jack froze in his tracks- That sounded oddly like Tooth… he thought, peering over his shoulder, narrowing his eyes into the snow in front of him. Then it came again:
"Jack Frost, what are you doing?!" Suddenly he found himself attacked by a flurry of blue and yellow feathers as the fairy catapulted herself at him, arms warped tightly around his neck.
"T-tooth…?" Jack asked, feeling his teeth chatter- why? he thought, I shouldn't be affected by the cold! Then it hit him.
Reaching up, he groped his neck for Elsa's snowflake, fingers burning as he found it.
"Elsa….." he said with disdain, a afar-away look in his eye. Tooth raised an eyebrow at him.
"Elsa?" she asked, confused, "Jack, what happened with Elsa?" He noticed four shadows walking towards them, the other Guardians revealing themselves, Kristoff tagging along. Jack stared at him, bewildered.
"Why….?" he clutched his staff tightly.
"What, Jack?" Tooth asked, "what is it?" Jack pointed his staff at Kristoff, wincing as pain shot through his arm.
"Why isn't he with Anna….?" Jack asked, "aren't you her true love or whatever the trolls said?" Kristoff rolled his eyes.
"How many times do i need to explain?" he moaned, "she's engaged to Hans! Perfect Prince Hans of the Southern Isles! Mr. Finish Each Other's Sandwiches Hans!" The Guardians blinked, exchanging nervous glances- they had never seen Kristoff act like this, all flustered that a girl was with another man. He likes her! Jack realized, he really likes her!
"Hans…..?" Jack asked, then shrugged Tooth off him, "it doesn't matter. Elsa is-"
"Elsa?" Kristoff cut him off, "where is she?! Anna is waiting inside-"
"Elsa is making her way here," Jack gulped, holding a hand out. Clutching his staff, he tapped it on the ground, taking a few steps towards the gates. He felt a sudden bout of pain surge through his neck and suddenly slipped, his back slamming against the ice.
"Jack!" North exclaimed, and the spirit of ice and snow felt the old geezer's beefy hands pull him up, dust him off roughly. Fingers poking his neck gently, Jack felt Elsa's snowflake grow, the ice spreading on his body, the cold rushing through his veins.
"I-I'm fine…." he gasped, his breath thick clouds as he exhaled, like a dragon's smoke, "I need to get to Anna. She needs to know…. Elsa is coming back!" He tried taking a few more steps, sliding on his first try. North caught him before he fell, looping an arm around his shoulder.
"Something's wrong," Kristoff shook his head, watching as Bunny gently pried the wooden staff from Jack's fingers, North helping him hobble to the gates.
"You think, mate?" Bunny said sarcastically, holding Jack's staff an arm's length from himself. Too many times, Jack had played tricks n him with it, and he wasn't about to inadvertently curse himself- if that was even possible. Kristoff followed, Sven's heels clicking on the ice as the reindeer galloped after them.
"Where's Elsa?" he asked, catching up.
"He said she was on her way- right Jack?" Tooth said Jack nodded.
"She'll be here soon," he swallowed, feeling his hands tingle slightly, "North- I need to get inside…" He groaned as a new wave of pain course through him. He lurched forward, arm slipping from North's shoulder. The old an caught him, gripping tightly.
"Careful, Jack," North said cautiously, "let us help you." Jack shook his head. There wasn't time for them to dawdle like this. There wasn't time for them to be worrying about him. Tooth was hovering a foot above the ground, wings a pink blur. She pointed to Jack's neck- more specifically, Elsa's snowflake that resided there.
"Jack, what's that?" she asked, leaning closer. Her breath smelled like spearmint. Jack shrugged, trying to hide it with his sweatshirt.
"it's nothing," he said, "let's just go-" Before he could react, Tooth pulled the hod down, revealing the snowflake to everyone.
"A snowflake…." Kristoff said with amazement, "but how did it get there…?"
"Never mind that!" Jack roared, making everyone else jump. Sven shook his head, antlers brushing Kristoff's shoulder. He hear Tooth asp- the ice was spreading. Jack felt it, his arm growing cold, almost leaden. There was the slights cold prick at the base of his ea, where the lobe was attached to the side of his head.
"That's ice," Kristoff said as he stared at the snowflake, "Jack- did Elsa strike you?" Jack shook his head- how would they take the news? She hadn't hit me on purpose, he thought, but still….
"No," Jack said finally, "I was carrying her-"
"Jack, you were flying?" north said in astonishment, "why?"
"It was the tastes way!" Jack blurted, then, "I was carrying her and she touched me. The snowflake appeared afterward."
"Well, where's Elsa?" Kristoff asked, brow furrowed.
"She wouldn't let me fly her the rest of the way here," Jack sighed heavily. His arm hung at his side, feeling like rock. It must be frozen by now, he thought with panic, just like what happened with Anna, I'm going to freeze!
"So you left her?" Kristoff asked, "in the middle of a blizzard- her blizzard?!" Jack nodded reluctantly.
"I didn't want to-" he protested, snapping his mouth shut as Kristoff glared at him. Furiously, he grabbed at the saddle that sat on Sven's back, tugging at a pair of reins hanging limply off the hook. Grunting, he hopped up, settling himself comfortably on Sven's back.
"Where ar eyou going?" Jack asked weakly.
"To get Elsa," Kristoff said gruffly, "because you promised Anna she would come home."
"But she's on her way," Bunny said, "Jack said so himself!"
"Well, saying so is not gonna get here here any faster, is it?" Kristoff scolded them, "and besides, Anna's life hangs in the balance now, doesn't it?" The Guardians cast each other nervous glances- the ice man was right. The princess of Arendelle was hoping for Elsa to come home. And if Elsa didn't come home, then Anna may as well freeze to death.
