Episode 77: Inner Demons Part 3
Yuni, along with everyone else in the room, except Oblivion, is completely baffled and confused. Yuni demands, "What happened!? Your life points hit zero, I saw it happen myself! How is the duel not over!?"
Oblivion grins with malice. "Allow me to introduce you to my Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. When you destroyed my two monsters, you broke the Seals of Armageddon, and allowed me to summon these monsters." Oblivion beckons to each one, one by one. The first is a shadowy warrior, who holds a bow and wears a crown, riding on a white, demonic horse. "This is the Apocalyptic Horseman of Conquest (Dark/Level 6/Fiend/Effect/ATK 2000/DEF 2000)." He beckons to the next, which is a battle ready shadow knight holding a sword. It rides an equally monstrous red horse. "The Apocalyptic Horseman of War (Dark/Level 6/Fiend/Effect/ATK 2000/DEF 2000)." The next appears to be more frail than the others. He is cloaked in black robes and holds a scale in one hand. Its horse, also demonic, is pitch black. "The Apocalyptic Horseman of Famine (Dark/Level 6/Fiend/Effect/ATK 2000/DEF 2000)." The last is a skeletal figure. It wears a torn black cloak and carries a scythe. Its monster horse is colored a ghostly, pale blue. "And of course, the Apocalyptic Horseman of Death (Dark/Level 6/Fiend/Effect/ATK 2000/DEF 2000), whose effect allows me to keep on dueling, even if my life points hit zero."
"But that means that as soon as I destroy it, you'll instantly lose! Since last time I attacked, all of your monsters were destroyed by a card effect, that means that Lumen, the Chaos Cyber-Tech Magician of Genesis (Light/Level 10/Spellcaster/Evolution/ATK 4000/DEF 3100) can re-declare its attack! Lumen, attack the Apocalyptic Horseman of Death with Destructive Genesis!" Lumen casts a massive burst of light energy, which is sent straight at Oblivion's horseman.
Both the Horsemen of War and Famine gallop in front of the other horseman and intercept the attack. Oblivion explains, "Nice try, but my other Horsemen have effects that protect me as well. The Horseman of War prevents my monsters from being destroyed. Also, not that it matters, but my Horseman of Famine prevents me from taking any damage."
Yuni is upset by this. He sighs. "Since I have no cards in my hand, I can send the Redeemed Chaos Relic: Glistening Staff of Wen to the grave in order to draw to cards." The staff explodes in to numerous glimmering shards and Yuni draws two cards, one of which he immediately sets. "Now I'll activate Lumen's second ability, which allows me to return a banished Cyber-Tech Spellbook card to my grave in order to activate its effect, so I'll return the Cyber-Tech Spellbook of Chaos in order to send Cyber-Tech Skull Archfiend and Cyber-Tech Ascendance to my grave, which I'll immediately banish in order to keep Lumen on the field (Yuni's hand: 1)."
Oblivion draws. "You may have defeated my Darkness Evolution monsters, but you have yet to see my most powerful monster. Until you see it, you can't even comprehend the meaning of the word power. I activate the effect of Apocalyptic Horseman of Conquest, which, since I control all Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse I can increase my life points by 1000 (Oblivion's LP: 1000) and then send all four to the grave in order to bring about the end of the world!" The horsemen each turn into an orb of energy, colored the same tint as their horses. The four orbs dance around each other and then merge into one large orb. It begins to grow bigger. As it grows, it begins to take on a shape. "I summon Apocalyptic Dragon of Armageddon (Dark/Level 12/Dragon/Effect/ATK 5000/DEF 5000)!" The monster fully forms. It is an absolutely massive European dragon, made of consolidated shadows. It has no arms or hands, instead it has disproportionately huge bat-like wings. It's eyes glow insidiously red.
Yuni looks up at the behemoth monster with fright.
"This monster is the embodiment of the Apocalypse, and it will ruin you! Once per turn, I'm aloud to place one Countdown to Armageddon Counter on this monster." The dragon roars with a piercing shriek and a blue orb of fire ignites above the head of the dragon (Counters: 1).
Yuni asks, "And what do these counters do?"
Oblivion grins wickedly. "When I accumulate three of them, I win the duel." Yuni gasps. "Though, I don't think you'll last even that long. In fact, I think I'll end this duel right now! Apocalyptic Dragon of Armageddon, attack now with Apocalyptic Fallout!" The dragon shrieks again. Massive balls of blue fire begin to rain down on Yuni's field.
Yuni declares, "Activate trap card, Temporal Displacement!" A massive vortex opens up. First it swallows up Lumen, then all of the fireballs get sucked into it. "This card tributes my monster in order to negate your attack. Then the best part comes, I can summon from my deck two monsters whose total levels are less than or equal the level of Lumen! I summon Cyber-Tech Berserker (Dark/Level 5/Fiend/Effect/ATK 2300/DEF 1100) and Cyber-Tech Seraphim (Light/Level 4/Fairy/Effect/ATK 1700/DEF 2000)!" The two monsters are spat out of the vortex, which then immediately disappears. "Since they were summoned by a card that distorts time, they both count as have being on my field for two of my turns!"
Oblivion mocks, "You can warp the Space-Time Continuum all you want for all I care. The results will be no different. If I can't destroy you with force, I'll simply end your world with my dragon's effect. The countdown to doom is on, and you only have two more turns." Oblivion sets a card (Oblivion's hand: 0).
Yugi says, Alright Yuni, you've got to make this draw count. I'll believe in the Heart of the Cards for both of us.
Yuni smirks, Who needs the Heart of the Cards when you have the power of Chaos? He declares, "Go, Chaos Draw!" and does just that. Yuni looks surprised. That's not a Chaos Relic! Ah well, it still works. He explains, "Since when my two monsters were summoned, they were counted as being on the field for two turns, this is now their third turn on the field, for a total of six turns! I tribute them both in order to summon Chronos, the Temporal Lord (Divine/Level 10/Divine-Beast/Effect/ATK X000/DEF X000)!" As before, the space station shakes violently as a massive vortex opens behind Yuni. Bolts of lightning are sent flying out of the vortex, striking at random points. The silhouette of the Yugohan Lord appears in the vortex, slowly the massive monster materializes and emerges. "This is my fifth turn, so Chronos' attack will change accordingly (ATK: 4000)."
Oblivion comments, "It would appear that my monster is so powerful that its strength is greater than even that of a Yugohan Lord."
"Not for long! Chronos, utilize your mastery over time and send us two turns into the future!" Chronos roars and the turn count goes up (ATK: 6000). "Now Chronos has enough attack to destroy your monster and inflict the necessary damage to end this duel once and for all!"
"If you think that is so, then go ahead and attack."
Yuni declares, "Chronos, attack now with Temporal Force Attack!" Chronos unleashes its temporal energy attack and sends it at Oblivion's dragon.
Oblivion announces, "I activate my facedown card! Go, Apocalyptic Visions! This card prevents any monsters with Countdown to Armageddon Counters on it from being destroyed by battle, and I take no battle damage!" The attack hits, but harmlessly dissipates. "Add that to my monster's effect that prevents it from being destroyed by card effects, and you have no hope of stopping my monster in time."
Yuni shouts in disbelief, "No!"
Oblivion grins devilishly. "Yes."
Yuni grunts. He looks up to Chronos and thinks, Chronos has always gotten me out of tight places. Is this the time that even a Yugohan Lord won't be enough? He shakes the last thought out of his head. "I end my turn (Yuni's hand: 1)." Upon ending his turn, Chronos' attack goes up, since another turn passed (ATK: 7000)
Oblivion draws. "I'll make this turn short, sweet, and to the point. Though, it won't be too sweet for you. Now Apocalyptic Dragon of Armageddon, place the next counter!" A second orb of blue fire appears to the left of the first (Counters: 2). "Then I'll simply set a card and pass the turn to you, not that it matters (Oblivion's hand: 0). My monster is invincible, and your monster, while powerful, is nothing compared to mine. You will make a pathetic attempt to stop it, it will ultimately fail, and then the turn will be mine, and Armageddon will come to you!"
Yuni looks down solemnly. He thinks, He's right. There isn't anything I can do. Even the powers of Chaos won't help me here. A Chaos Draw would only get me Chaos Relic, which only work on Chaos monsters. I don't have any right now. I don't know if there's a single card in my deck that can put a stop to his dragon. All hope is lost.
Yugi asserts, Hope is not lost! Hope is never lost! There is always another hope!
As Yugi is saying this, the top card of Yuni's deck glows and sparkles a brilliant gold. Yuni is speechless. What…what is that? I'm not performing a Chaos Draw!
Draw Yuni, draw that card now!
Yuni slowly places his hand over the card. He takes a deep breath. Suddenly, five other hands also place their hands over his deck, on top of his hand. The new hands are transparent and ghostly. Yuni looks up in surprise. Floating in a circle around him are Brutus, Zenith, Apep, and Yuni's parents, Ben and Jade. He gasps. "What's happening!?"
Apep answers in an echo-filled voice, "We are with you Yuni, all the way."
Brutus says in a similar voice, "You'd be crazy to think that I'd miss this duel."
Zenith nods and also speaks similarly, "Same here."
Yuni looks over to his parents. He smiles, looking overjoyed. "Mom, Dad, it's great to see you again."
His parents smile back. Jade says, "We'll always be there for you Yuni. We'll always stand by your side."
Ben nods and agrees, "You'll never be alone. Now why don't you draw that card and kick Oblivion's butt for us!"
Yuni smiles even wider. He says, "Together!" He draws the glowing card, along with all of his friends and family. As he's drawing it, it's shown to be the card Another Hope. At first, it is blank as always, but suddenly a wave of light washes over it, and an effect fills in. Yuni's eyes go wide in surprise as he reads the card. He looks straight at Oblivion, and the apparitions of his loved ones gather behind him. He declares with much emotion, "Oblivion, it's time to end this duel and stop your evil once and for all! I activate Another Hope!"
Oblivion's eyes go wide with shock. "No…no….no…NO! That's not possible! How are you using the power of Another Hope, only a Prince of Yugoha could do that!"
Yuni smiles and declares, "I am a Prince of Yugoha! I am the incarnate of Prince Yu-Gi-Oh!" He then explains, "Another Hope has the power to split any card into its base entities!"
"But my dragon was created by a combination of the four Apocalyptic Horsemen!"
"Exactly! Say goodbye to your dragon!" The scene shown in the picture on Another Hope, a magnificent view of a starry sky with a view of the Milky Way, with a shooting star passing through it, and an aurora over it, appears in the space surrounding the duel arena. Celestial energy builds up around Oblivion's monster. It turns into an orb of celestial energy, which then splits into four, each of the four forming into one of the Apocalyptic Horsemen. "And since those monsters have just been placed on the field, Chronos' effect activates, sending them a turn into the future!" Chronos opens its second mouth shoots a ball of energy, which rips open a time vortex and sucks in Oblivion's monsters.
Oblivion puts his hands up to his forehead. He begins to convulse rapidly. He says to himself, sounding as if he's gone insane, "No, this isn't possible. I can't lose. I can't. I have the ultimate power of Darkness. No. Not possible." He suddenly looks up at Yuni and shouts in rage, "You! This is your fault! I wasn't supposed to lose! I was going to be almighty!"
"Sorry, but it looks like that wasn't meant to be."
Oblivion holds up an arm towards Yuni, and dark energy begins to charge around it. "You will pay for this! Enough of this silly card game, I will destroy you myself!" Energy continues to gather.
Celestia gasps. She jumps off the observation platform and propels herself in front of Yuni shouting, "Daddy, no!"
Tori and Seto gasp, "Daddy!?"
Celestia floats in front of Yuni with both of her hands raised straight out to the sides. She shouts, "You can't do this!"
Oblivion sneers. "Get out of the Celestia! This has nothing to do with you!"
"Yes it does! It has everything to do with me! It was our job to protect and serve the Princes of Yugoha, you can't attack Yuni!"
"I can and I will! Get out of the way!"
"I won't! Stand down!"
Oblivion raises his other hand, and a tentacle of shadows is sent out, in the zero gravity the tentacle effortlessly swats Celestia aside. Oblivion shouts, "Goodbye Yuni Oha!" He lets loose a massive beam of shadows at Yuni, who is still stunned from the suddenness of the attack on Celestia.
Celestia quickly recovers and looks towards Yuni in horror. Everything begins to move in slow motion. She shouts, "No!" and pushes off against the wall she's on and flies towards Yuni. She manages to push him out of the way, but then she turns to see the beam heading in her direction. Her momentum manages to get her out of the way, and the beam misses her, but it keeps on going and hits the wall behind her. Time returns to normal. The see-through material shatters, and air rushes out into the vacuum of space, Celestia being pulled out with it. She manages to grab a hold of the rim, but is having trouble fighting past the decompression. An alarm goes off.
Yuni shouts, "Celestia!" He braces against the wall and makes her way to her. The force of the wind pushes Yuni up against the wall. He grabs her hand and tries to pull, but it's futile.
Back at the observation platform, Seto, in a moment of shock, starts to jump off the platform to help, but Kodane holds him back and pleads, "No Seto, it's too dangerous!" Seto looks towards Celestia, and then back to his brother. He quickly regains his composure.
Oblivion is standing looking at the scene in horror. Yuni turns to him and says with desperation, "What are you doing!? Your daughter is in trouble! I can save her, but I need your help!"
Oblivion is paralyzed with shock. He thinks in panic, Celestia! I need to help her!
A dark and malevolent voice asserts, No, let her parish! She is a remnant of your old life, before you were powerful! Do nothing to help her, she would only hold you back.
No…no…NO! Get out of my head! I don't want you anymore! He shouts aloud in pain. Suddenly its as if an outer layer on top of Oblivion shatters into a million pieces. After the pieces fall, Oblivion's pale skin is now the color of a normal human. The dark markings on his face are now colored gold and his eyes, which used to be a cold black, are now a light blue. He appears overall more kind and wise. He shouts, "Celestia, I'm coming!" He pushes off of the wall behind him and grabs onto Yuni's back. He commands, "On the count of three pull! One…two…three!" Oblivion and Yuni both pull with all their might, and drag up Celestia. They tumble backwards, out of the area of influence from hole. As soon as they pull her out, a large, cannon like device emerges from a panel above the entry to the room. The cannon fires a ball of globular material at the hole, which instantly creates a seal, stopping the decompression. The three of them are panting heavily.
Otto looks incredibly angered. He pounds his fists against a wall and shouts, "No!" he quickly leaves the room. Due to what just happened, no one seems to notice.
The voice of the Minister of Dueling frantically asks, "Um…hello, hello! Is everyone okay!?" His hologram appears and he looks around. He breathes a sigh of relief. "Everyone looks fine. For some reason all of our visual feed cut out a minute ago and the next thing we know, there's a breach in the station. We're glad to see that everyone's okay. We will fully understand if you two would like to postpone the duel until further notice."
Oblivion begins to shake his head in agreement, but Yuni cuts him off, "No, this duel is too great to let it end like this." He looks at Oblivion, "What do you say Oblivion?"
Oblivion smiles, genuinely this time, and responds, "Under one condition." Yuni raises his eyebrow. "It's not Oblivion, it's Cosmo."
Yuni smiles back. "You've got."
Cosmo beckons at Celestia to return to the observation platform and take a break. Before she leaves she looks Cosmo in the eyes and says, "I'm glad your back Daddy."
"So am I my dear, so am I." Cosmo and Celestia return to their previous positions.
Yuni looks towards the apparitions of his friends and families, who have remained here throughout all of this. He smiles at them. They smile back, and one by one they disappear. Yuni turns, faces Cosmo and says, "I'm ready when you are."
Cosmo nods. "I'm ready. I activate my facedown card, Final Judgment! Since four of my monsters just left the field at the same time, and I now have no monsters, I can special summon a monster from the grave. I bring back Apocalyptic Ghoul of Catastrophe (Dark/Level 6/Fiend/ATK 2300/DEF 2200)! Then, I get to draw a card, and if it's a spell card that I can activate, I activate it!" He draws a card. As he does, the card glows. He smiles upon seeing it. "It's a spell card! I activate Celestial Advancement: Grace of Yugoha!"
Yuni observes, That's the same card that Celestia used to perform a Celestial Apex Evolution.
Cosmo's monster becomes wrapped in a nebula-like cloud, and begins to glow intensely. Oblivion declares, "I summon Celestial Archlord of Genesis (Light/Level 9/Fairy/Evolution/ATK 0/DEF 0)!" The nebula breaks and reveals the new monster. It is an angelic being of light. It has two massive, white-feathered wings. It wears loose robes of pure white and it holds a harp. "When I summon this monster, its attack becomes equal to double the attack of one of your monsters, such as Chronos!" The angel strums its harp and plays melodious tune (ATK: 14000). "You may continue your turn Yuni."
Yuni smiles. "This should be fun. I activate Fate's Blessing! This card tributes a monster I control in order to summon another from my graveyard." Chronos roars, and then shatters away. "I summon the Cyber-Tech Magician (Dark/Level 7/Spellcaster/Effect/ATK 2500/DEF 2100)!" The pieces from Chronos reform into Cyber-Tech Magician. "Then the attack of my monster becomes double that of the strongest monster on the field (ATK: 28000)!" Now Cyber-Tech Magician, attack the Celestial Archlord of Genesis with Cyber Magic Attack!"
Cosmo orders, "Counter attack with Celestial Melody!" Cyber-Tech Magician casts its spell, and Cosmo's monster strums its harp again, creating energy waves. The attacks collide, but the Cyber-Tech Magician's overcomes the other's and destroys it (Cosmo's LP: 0)."
The Minister of Dueling says unsure at first, "Is that it, is it actually over this time?" After a few moments, and no cards are played he announces, "I am proud to announce that the winner is Yuni Oha!" A mechanical set of hands that extend out of the wall grab the Crown of Kings, carry it towards Yuni, and places it on his head. It's an awkward fit due to Yuni's hair. "With the power invested in me by the duelists of the world and the Ministry of Dueling, it is my pleasure to declare Yuni Oha the next King of Games!" Everyone in the room, except Seto, clap. "Yuni Oha, you will now go down in history as the second King of Games! Congratulations!"
Yuni and Cosmo make their way back to the observation platform. Seto gives Yuni a nod and leaves the room, Kodane trailing behind him. Tori and Celestia walk up to the two. Tori exclaims, "That was amazing Yuni! I can't even begin to count how many times I thought that you were going to lose, but you didn't! That's so great!"
Celestia, still extremely happy, nods. "Yes, that was a great end to a great duel."
Yuni turns to Cosmo and asks, "So, do you think you can fill me in a little on Yugoha now?"
Cosmo contemplates for a second. "Yes, of course. Allow me to tell you the story of how Another Hope came to be." As Cosmo tells his story, a scene is shown to illustrate everything he says. "20,000 years ago, the Grand Yugohan Space Empire was at its prime. It spanned a nearly quarter of this galaxy, making it the largest civilization to ever exist. Then the twin princes Seto and Yu-Gi-Oh were born. As I'm sure you already know, the tradition of Yugoha stated that in such an event, the successor to the throne is decided by the Yugohan Lords, Quantus and Chronos. Always, they have agreed on who was the proper ruler, but that all changed on the day of Seto's and Yu-Gi-Oh's sixteenth birthday, when the gods disagreed. This lead to five years of civil war, it, combined with invasion from another society, completely destroyed the empire. Seto and Yu-Gi-Oh came to realize the error of their ways. Their five years of fighting had led to corruption. This corruption grew so big and powerful, that it actually manifested itself in the form of a dark spirit known as Ottiuk the Dark One. Yu-Gi-Oh and Seto came to me and my daughter in order to seek advice. I told them that there was only one way stop the Dark One, we had to seal its power away. So over the next several months we worked together in order to siphon off its power and seal it away into a series of several objects. However, we knew that this would not be a permanent solution to our problems. We knew that eventually Ottiuk would return. We had to find a way to fight it, thousands of years in the future when his return came. I knew of only one technique that could do this. I split the two princes' souls."
Yuni asks, "You split their souls?"
Cosmo nods. "Yes, the ones you know as Timaeus, Atem, and Yugi all were other fractions of the split soul of Yu-Gi-Oh, just as Critias, Priest Seto, Seto Kaiba, and Seto Ossius are all part of Prince Seto's soul." Yuni nods in understanding. "Each of the two princes had had four main traits named as their best, and it was those traits that defined the split. For Yu-Gi-Oh it was his honor, leadership, compassion, and skill, you being skill, Yugi being compassion, Atem being leadership, and Timaeus being honor. Similarly, Critias embodied chivalry, Priest Seto was loyalty, Seto Kaiba represented ingenuity, and Seto Ossius is strength."
Yuni nods in understanding. He says to Yugi, I guess we know why we look so similar to each other now.
Yugi laughs, Yeah we're both parts of the same person!
Cosmo continues, "Anyways, the method we used to split the souls was to use the power of the Another Hope card, appropriate, as it gave another hope to Yugoha. The power worked so that every 5,000 years a part of the princes' souls would be revived as its own entity, that way they could weaken the strength of Ottiuk, while still maintaining their ability to withstand the years. It is now 20,000 years latter, and all the soul fragments have been revived, meaning that soon it will be time to recombine them and revive the Princes Seto and Yu-Gi-Oh, and Another Hope is the key to that revival."
Yuni slowly nods as he takes it all in. All he can say is, "Wow…I never would have guessed."
"Do not worry yourself over this now. The time has not yet come, and you have reason to celebrate. Also, there are two people who want to see you."
As if on cue, the door opens and Zenith and Brutus run in. Yuni shouts in surprise, "Brutus! Zenith! You're okay!"
Brutus says, "Better than okay, I'm great!"
Yuni looks at Cosmo in question. Cosmo answers, "Since it has only been a day since Zenith's banishment, I was able to retrieve the minds of the two." He suddenly hangs his head in shame. "I'm sorry, but your parents and Apep are too far gone for me to retrieve."
Yuni takes a deep breath and nods. "That's fine. I don't blame you."
Cosmo and Celestia begin to walk out of the room, but Cosmo stops and says, "I will contact you soon. We still have much to talk about." Yuni nods. The two leave.
Yuni looks back at his friends and says, "Come on guys, let's go home." The four friends walk out.
Some time later, the four appear on a teleporting pad outside at night. Tori looks at her watch and says, "Oh dear me! I'm late for…um…something. I've better get going. Congratulations again Yuni!"
Brutus says awkwardly, "Yeah…um…me too." He runs off.
Yuni looks to Zenith, who just laughs awkwardly and then runs off. Yuni thinks, That was odd. I wonder what's going on with them. Yuni shrugs it off and walks on.
Yuni opens the front door of his house. The lights are off and its empty. Yuni shouts, "Grandpa, I'm home!"
As soon as Yuni flips on the lights, many people jump out and shout, "Surprise! Congratulations King of Games!" The crowd includes Yuni's grandpa, Tori, Brutus, Zenith, and many other various people, presumably from Yuni's school.
Yuni smiles. "Oh you guys. You didn't have to do this."
Tori smiles, "It was your grandpa's idea, he contacted me on way home."
Yuni walks over and hugs his grandfather. He says, "Thanks, all of you."
Later, the party is still going strong. Zenith is watching Yugi and Brutus give an exhibition duel and everyone's watching fascinated. Zenith smiles and walks over to Yuni. He whispers to him, "I've got to go make a call, I'll be right back." Yuni nods.
Zenith weaves through the crowd of people and walks outside onto a second floor deck. Once outside from his pocket he pulls a strange device. It has a couple of buttons and a large screen. He presses a button, and the screen flashes on. It reads, "Contacting Central New Yugohan Communications Network. Please hold."
After several moments the message goes away. Zenith speaks more seriously than ever into the device, "This is Vanguard Zenith Xenox. The tournament is over. I have his trust. Earth is prime for invasion."
A chess board in the middle of a game is displayed in a dark room. A hand reaches out and grabs the white king, which he moves into a position were it takes out a black knight, leaving only the black king, queen, a bishop, and several pawns. Otto is shown to be the one moving the piece. He says, "So the White King took out my final Knight. It is of no consequence, for now I have a strategy utilizing both the Black Queen and the remaining Black Bishop to put him into checkmate." He picks up something next to the board. It's the Crown of Kings. "And little does Yu-Gi-Oh know, but I am now in possession of the real Crown of Kings, and that the one he has is nothing but a fake. I now control the last remnant of the power of the Orichalcos." As he says that, one of the gemstones on the crown begin to glow a bright green. He walks over to his shelf where he keeps the other artifacts he's acquired, the Siphon of Chaos is now also among them, and he places the crown down. "Now all I require is 100,000 souls. I have almost reclaimed my power. I will control this universe." Otto begins to laugh maniacally. "Ottiuk the Dark One will rise again!"
